20 years later and the sprite graphics they used still hold well. I wish the continued using 2d sprites for their future games because it suits the Stronghold series very well.

Seriously what other game makes you have to house and keep your workers happy and fed while cows and stones are flying at your units it’s amazing. Awesome video

Don't forget that the game even tells you different dialogue at different times. When you are playing on christmas eve, the announcer will greet you "Merry Christmas, sire!". In Stronghold HD, if you've been playing for hours, the helper also suggest you take a break or grab something to eat

Really enjoyed your shoutout to the german voice actors, when I was a kid I didn't realize it but looking back they did an AMAZING job. Especially considering the quality of many other VG dubs, especially during that time. Such a good game all around, dripping passion all around.

Yes, Stronghold has the right balance, making the game not too simple and not too complicated. I quite recently played Farthest Frontiers, another excellent game, but it requires MUCH more strategy and complexity. I think Stronghold also was the 1st medieval themed RTS that used the flammable patch - fire arrow traps in the game to great effect. Great gameplay, visuals, voice acting, background music, and campaign storyline. It's rare to find games that have it all :)

Stronghold is completely underrated and an absolute classic. I've been playing it my whole life and I don't think I'll ever truly stop. "Pitch rigs must be built on oil in the marsh!"

Great video, I'm actually surprised that people really enjoy this game as much as i have, especially as a child. Idk how I got into it but damn am I glad I did. Was always fun making my own castle in the Creator and then having it try to defend itself from waves of armies. Gosh, good times. Good video, keep up the good work!!

Amazing video, both thoses games are the first games i've played on a pc, i only have good memories with them

the genious of these games - that I haven't really felt in others - is in the way that everything is available from the start - no tiers or tech requirements - but you still need to build up the economy from wood to stone, food bows then iron and so on, while giving you all the freedom to gimp your progress in favour of something else, it's almost a sandbox rts

Great Video mate! I got my first Copy around 2005, and i still play Stronghold Crusader to this day. i would love to see younger gamers try Crusader too, but make sure to warn them about the Caliph calling them "INFIDEL!" and burning their castle early on xD

I was born in 2007 but i got to play the game from my cousin when i was about 7 years old and from that point i was deeply in love with the game, i still play it sometimes when im feeling nostalgic or just want to relax. Thanks to the developers for such a awesome game ❤

It was amazing time.... one of the first games I have ever played on my first computer.

That cursor for CS just a must make idea! About our beloved Stronghold Crusader: It`s pure nostalgia for me. Used to play in my teenage years, but back then I wasn`t such a good player. Some years earlier I`ve got on Steam for cheap and without hesitation I`ve bought it. Well, important thing to say, most of our childhood games lives in our memories and only nostalgia makes them good. If you play today them, it won`t be the same. But this gem is different. I played lately all of the 80 skirmishes and the historical campaigns. When I`m finished them I`ve just felt empty. I want more! If this game comes out now and not more than 20 years ago, it`s still would be a contender to other RTS`s.

I liked the sword cursor from original SH so much I actually had it rigged up to be my regular PC cursor for about 10 years or so.

Varied economic options, units mention specific things that affect their happiness, over the top goofy computer opponents, lots of variety in how you build your castle, it's no wonder why people who have played Stronghold Crusader keep coming back after 20+ years even with so many well-known RTS games available. Started with buying a little $10 PC game I had never heard of that I didn't have to put in the computer after it was installed. That's a lot of bang for your buck. Terrific game.

Stronghold Crusader is my #1 favourite game of all time. I've been playing for over 20 years and must have thousands of hours well spent. With the UCP patch, I'm going through the campaign trail AGAIN as we speak.

Same for the voice acting for the spanish version, especially the Rat, its hilarious

there's no other game like stronghold that let you garrison your wall and make them a real defensive structure and not just a functional decoration

Stronghold is absolutely amazing. My cousin introduced this game to me many many years ago, and I played countless hours of custom skirmishes and online games with a few friends, its so much fun. I still play it from time to time. It's a shame that the 3D Stronghold games didn't live up to the classics, but I think the graphics and soundtrack are a huge factor to this. The art style and general vibes of Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader are just unmatched.

I loved Stronghold as a teen, I liked the original more then crusader, i loved the cutscences where the rat, snake, pig and wolf would constantly seethe over their constant defeats. Made every victory so much more satisfying. I was dissapointed that they didn't do that for crusader. Good times.

There was another game, Knight of Honor (I think the 2 version was released), this game was really so epic, I still play it

Never played this game, only vaguely remember it. But you could not have done any better job selling it! 200% passion!

The german dubbing is good, but I reccomend checking the polish one. I played with multiple just for fun, and the polsih dubbing is one of the best the game has. The polish version of The Rat just takes the cake.

My favourite things in this game was maxing the food rations and placing couple bars and good things so i can max out the taxes to recruit 500 horse archers.
