Security is a _deterrant._ If that thief was not _deterred_ by my presence, from walking out of that door without paying, then that ain’t my fault. 🤷🏾♀️
I've been doing security for 14 years. I've caught people breaking into cars and houses, people have ran up on me, witnessed attempted suicides, found people dead, but NOT ONCE, have I ever been physically assaulted. I know my role, OBSERVE AND REPORT, they don't pay me enough to do anything extra. As a security manager I've told my staff the same thing cus I ain't risking my life for a company who gon replace me at the drop of a hat 🙅🏾♂️
Preach! You don't owe these companies your loyalty, at the expense of your life and livelihood. They have zero care or loyalty for you, so get with the program.
@@TomikaKelly it might surprise you but a lot of the bad things I've experienced as security happened with the retirement community. They regular apartments (not a nursing home), you just gotta be at least 55 to live there. It's 95% white folks and they be fist fighting over women, giving each other std's and all. I witnessed the police use his handcuffs as brass knuckles on somebody daughter. I stopped two suicide attempts, walked in on a botched unsuccessful attempt, found completed attempts, caught break ins and yelled from a DISTANCE 😆, all kinda stuff going on with these older folks. It taught me to appreciate the elders in my family and talk to em often cus they might be lonely & you never know what else they going through.
Back in the day, as a bank teller, a guy walked up to my window, handed me a note that instructed me to hand over the "BANKS MONEY". I understood the assignment and did as I was instructed, some idiot supervisor had the nerve to ask me, "why did you give him the money?" My response, "first off, that money is insured and more importantly, the big black gun he had pointed at my chest, told me to follow his exact orders".
That bank manager must be crazy, if he expected you to take a chance with an ARMED bank robber! If he was in that position he probably would have peed his pants & offered to take him to the vault! 😡
You did the right thing. I was in a bank when it got robbed before. It was scary but no one got hurt because the teller followed protocol. I still have a fear of banks and I avoid them at all cost now.
"I'm the coworker that don't help, cause I got to get back home to my husband and kids" in other words someone has to LIVE to tell the story. I am someone 😂😂😂
That Is Me!!! I always told my children "when you see trouble, GTFO! Someone else can tell the news reporter what happened. YOU need to be alive to WATCH the news!" 💯💯💯
😂🤣😂 I was a manager at a retail store. The district managers came in my store to give me a review. They ended up in a physical fight! I mean tore the front of my store UP! One employee broke them up. They asked why I didn’t help. I told them they suppose to be my supervisors and their men. What I look like breaking up two grown men fighting and they make a mistake and hit me lol 😂! My husband would’ve beat their ass and I would’ve been fired. I called the police and kept checking people out lol 😂.
I used to work at TJ Maxx. 'Loss Prevention' messed around and got 3 of her fingers broke damn near clean off the hand trying to stop some man from stealing. And had the AUDACITY to look around at the front desk clerks like GO GET EM!! MA'AM ... I am NOT about to risk my life NOR my fingers over some discount irregular jeans! 🛑
I know that’s right, I used to work at Sam’s Club and they asking me why I didn’t do nothing I am just a employee at Self checkout, you don’t pay me for that
When I was a guard, I let those people know off rip, Officer Williams ain't saving nothing. I get paid to dial 911, not be a hero. 😂 I am 5'4, 135 lbs. I ain't protecting nothing but my peace.
Me as a 5’2 135lb correctional officer at a men’s facility. Don’t aggravate the inmates cause I’m trying to go home in one piece upright. Cause you power tripping everyone got to come save your behind. 😭😭😭
You are there to observe and report. You are not the police. I left my security position because they tried to get me to do more than that. I said no suh ✌🏽
This happened to me when I worked at the neighborhood convenience store as a teenager! I knew our neighborhood crackhead was stealing beers when he would come in the store with an ankle length leather coat on in July! Usually I never said anything because he was usually a little feisty when he was high! Until one day the store was full of customers and he thought he was gonna march past all of us at the counter with that super fly coat on in July, in 102 degree weather in the hot ass south! This particular day I had to stop him because those beer bottles was clinking together so hard that he sounded like a whole ass wind chime! I was like see, u go too far! You tryna make me look bad! Go put them folks beer right back where you found them! He just looked at me and laughed and said “ok”…and he went and unloaded an entire 6pk from his pocket! He even put them back in the right spot in the cooler! Then he stopped by long enough to say “See ya tomorrow” before he left the store, like stealing beer was his actual job! 😂
I did security for 22 years. I feel him. I wouldn't do another security job that requires me to do anything other than sit there for no amount of money. They want you to risk your life and do everybody's job for almost nothing but be quick to replace you just because they're having a bad day. I encourage him to quit.
He should never have applied for the job. He was just looking to get paid to do nothing. It’s one thing to apply for a job fully expecting to do that job and then realizing one of it’s perks is nothing ever happens. It’s something else to apply for a job fully expecting to do absolutely nothing other than receive a check.
Doing security is one of those jobs where you can do it for 50 years and have no trouble, but someone might do it for 2 days and immediately sent to meet their ancestors. Unless they are being monitors, doing security and expecting it to be peaceful is like being on a boat and expecting not to ever get wet.
@@viewer0ne Doubt he didn’t expect not to do anything per se. It was probably an expectation that the presence of a security guard would be a deterrent rather than chasing and being accosted. Most police officers aren’t paid enough to have their lives on the line so a minimum wage security job to be at risk and unrewarded is BS. He takes the job because he has bills and needs to earn a living. Not for us to judge.
He said " why yall didn't help me?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I worked at KMART in the electronics dept and ppl always stole DVDs and video games. I was making $7 an hour, went to school full time and lived with my parents. They asked why I didn't say anything. striaght told them " that's above my pay grade to stop theft." I was only there for 2 months smh
When I worked in a hotel a few years ago, a potential guest asked where our atm machine was. On my way to clock out, I saw him with the atm machine on one of our hand trucks. I looked at him for a second, confused, and he said to me "this ain't your battle". I said "it sure ain't" and casually walked back to the front dest and told my relief to call 911, while he took the atm machine out a side door. I never even looked to see where he was driving. Not my battle!
I worked at Wal-Mart years ago as a cashier. Loved it because I could playfully talk trash to folks all day. Around Christmas time, I had an overly friendly guy come through with 2 buggies full of gifts and toys. As I'm scanning and chopping it up, I noticed the prices of the items were ridiculously low. That coupled with the facts that he insisted on grabbing each item before I finished scanning it AND him wanting to bag his own stuff let me know he was changing prices. I had pressed a button for a manager to come help early on in the transaction because one thing wouldn't scan. The manager never showed up. The sensor beeped on his way out, but no one stopped him because he looked like Ted Bundy. Kind face and...pale colored. The manager came over and asked me what I had needed earlier. I told her this man was stealing and carried on with my day. She was so mad about me not stopping him that she wrote me up. I went to her boss which resulted in them reviewing the tape which showed my manager ignoring my call on her device when it all happened. SHE got written up. Fun times. But these jobs be havin us messed up!!
The look he had on his face when the guy asked if he wanted to see the video 😂😂😂😂... Nooo why didn't you help me... I am dying 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂he was genuinely shocked 😳😳😳😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😂😂😂
I’m confused though, why he keep running after them after they dropped the clothes? At that point the chase would have been over for me and I would have asked for a raise cause I got the merchandise back 🤷🏾♂️
I assumed he meant the man didn't Leave the merchandise. He's still standing over it waiting for the security guard to try to come get it so he can attack him And then leave with said merchandise. He just dropped it for a second to fight.
Fortunately, the places of employment that I have attended told their staff to not engage with individuals when they are in the process of illegally procuring items from the facility and to ONLY notify management!
The most I did was say "hey stop" and keep on working. I done had people jump over the counter to steal and I just stood back like wow they really are athletic to not need any momentum to jump that high 😂🤣😂 My motto was as long as they aren't trying to steal me/mines then I'm not doing much but saying "hey stop"
Chile I reading this in the morning and aint even had breakfast yet. Is it ok to be laughin this hard on an empty stomach? 😂😂😂 What the medcin people have to say bout that? You know dem dey gat sumtin ta say bout errythang!😂😂
As a security guard, I am a glorified babysitter for a gate and phone. I REFUSE to do anything that requires physical exertion involving another individual! I'm not that girl. My pay rate says "Glorified phone and gate sitter". Thank you.
EJ, I am you. You are me. I worked in Retail while in Catholic High School and Private College. As the Assistant Manager, I told the Store Manager that it is Not Our Responsibility to put Our Lives at Risk, protecting Clothing when the Company has Insurance for Theft. When the "Boosters" came in to Steal, I stepped back and let them take whatever they wanted. Then I called the Police. No, it is Not Our job to put Our lives in Danger to be shot, or killed. And I Stand On That. Much True Respect to all my fellow Brothers and Sisters in Retail. ✊🏾 #Iammoreimportantthanmaterialthings
I'm an armed guard and I'm going to tell you security policy says your only job is to observe and report not chase theives who are stealing you call the police give them what you saw and write an incident report thats the basics for level 1 security guards
@M Just going by what he said. Some security guards, depending on where they work, just sit and keep an eye out. That's not nothing but it is an easy task. Maybe that's what he meant instead of literally do absolutely nothing. The thing is people have an unrealistic expectation to do just that, NOTHING. I've worked with and currently work with such people. It's asinine. God forbid they actually have to move or use their brain.
I still laugh at how famous my mom became as a greeter at her local Walmart. “Hmm, there seems to be more items in your cart than what’s on your receipt. Don’t worry, I’ll get the cashier to finish ringing you up.” When the regular sticky fingered customers saw her at the door, they would go to the other side. Walmart actually gave her a bonus check for saving potentially lost revenue. She lasted six months, then quit from aggravation because of all the stealing. Remember this is the same mom that would threaten to drop us off at the police station herself if we dared bring something into the house that we didn’t pay for.
Noooooo, "why didn't you help me"? I cannot even 🤣😄😂🙃💀 I used to work at NY&Co, BBW, Express, etc. and I NEVA Once stopped someone from stealing....Chile BYE - I have to live outside of this job! Glad it's not just me!!
Chile I was working at a High End Store as security and this man pass by me with an IKEA big blue shopping bag stuff with clothes. I looked at that man and said “Have a nice day, sir” as he was high tailing it out of there. All of that merchandise is insured. They’ll be alright.
Employed for an ENTIRE 7 minutes and 18 seconds!! It took me longer to take my clothes off, wash my makeup off, and fix my mid day snack then it did for me to quit!!
Yup, exactly. My mom used to work security and I used be so worried. When I asked her what are you supposed to do if someone actually break in she said lock herself in her office and call the actual police.
I worked retail during Christmas one year and someone came through my line with a stroller filled with stolen merchandise and a baby. I wished them Merry Christmas and minded my business.
“Why yeenaint help me?” 😂😂😂 I used to work at Old Navy. We use to have a mother/daughter duo that would come in when we got new shipment to steal. One time the daughter walked out with a dress hanging out her purse. We asked her if she needed a bag for her items as she told us bye while walking out.
I worked at Sears years ago. Had to work the cash register and help with Customer Service. The other cashier told Me 👀😳 "Hey, that lady over there is stealing." I told her "Tell them to Stop Stealing or leave them alone, the camera will see it either way. I gotta line of customers to ring out." 😑💅🏾 If the company wishes to press charges they may do so. I ain't tussling with nobody over merchandise that's isn't mine. I don't condone theft, but I don't but myself in danger at establishments that aren't mine. That's what insurance is for.
Whole time you're chasing somebody, if you hurt them, you're getting fired while the company claims no liability for YOUR actions. Most guards aren't even TRAINED how to properly take down a suspect, let alone detain them. #JusLetEmRunFam
Idk who these retail companies think we are, but it ain’t ‘Top Flight Security of the World’. Baby, y’all can roll off with the whole store if you figure it out. I’m not running down on nobody for overpriced items that someone in another country made making damn near slave wages. Should’ve been a lower price *anyway!* 🤨
That one time i thought I could work fast food. The manager hollered at me because I didn't clean up fries someone else had dropped on the floor. My mouth reckless so I let it be known that Wendy's aint all there is. So yea I got fired 🥴😂
When I was in college I worked at Walmart. Saw folks stealing left and right and I just turned and walked the other way. I didn't have time to confront nobody especially grown ass men who were bigger than me or women who were bold enough to stuff everything into their purses. Nope. I ain't see shit and I just wanna make it through my shift so I can head back to my dorm and study.
Corporate Merica is notorious for "leveraging your support", which is code for here's more stuff for you to do that you didn't sign up for and we not gon pay you more for it. I peepers game long time ago! I will pull out my role description quick and move the discussion to additional compensation for these here additional tasks. This is why people leaving the workforce now. Corporate always want something for nothing ✌️
When I used to be a Loss Prevention security at Ross, I used to mind my business watching folks boldly steal. One thing I refused to do was to risk my life trying to be too flight security. That wasn’t my store or products. Them retail stores have insurance. Plus they have no problem replacing me if something happens to me playing hero 🤷🏾♀️
I remember years ago I worked as a security guard at the home depot distribution center. One day two guys got into a fist fight in the back. One of the supervisors ran up to the front of the building were I was at all out of breath, he told me two dudes was fighting in the back. Then he turned around like he was about to lead me to the fight so I could break it up 😀😄😆😂🤣‼ I told him, sir I'm am a women that #1, 2. I was hired to be an deterrent, it is against my company's policy to touch any one in this building, 3. If you like can call the police for you, I can write an incident report, but that's about it 😂🤣🤣😂‼YYOOOOO yall should have seen the look on his face 🤯 that shit was priceless! He got all mad and told me not to call the police and he said if you can't do anything then there is no need for me to come to the back of the warehouse where the fight was occurring. I looked around my security office while still seated at my desk like, 🤔 did it look like I was about to get up 😒😏💅🏿?!! He stormed away talking about how useless security was, I told him let me know if you need that incident report 😉🙃 and went back to my regularly scheduled program of watching movies online 👩🏾💻🍿🤷🏾♀️🙋🏾♀️😎‼
Looking for a side hustle, I got certified in my state and got a security job. I thought I was going to be in a quiet lobby AND seated for 8 hours so I could do my homework on the clock. They wanted me to do rounds and check the building among other things. I lasted a week. They were so mad when I quit! LOL
I know a cashier that tried to stop a theft at work even though there was also security guard. She got hurt and sued the guard company and her work. Big chain company. Ended up she could only get minimal workers comp. Court said her own fault. That store has insurance and the guard is deterrent. Don’t get yourselves hurt for the sake of corporate because they don’t care about you.
I feel this. That's like when my coworkers leave early when the boss isn't there and they say don't tell her. And I'm like, that's not in my job description, I don't see or hear ANYTHING!!!! Steal allllllll the time ya'll want...ill be over here minding my own business 🐸 ☕️ .
That's the same thing my coworker does she works the night shift. She leaves to go spend time with her boyfriend she shows up 3 hours later telling where she was what she was doing and for me not to tell nobody she left the property. I tell her I ain't got nothing to do with that and please stop telling me when you gonna leave I don't want to be your accomplice.
Years ago, I worked at a Walgreens in the mall. One weekend, the local boosters came in & we were all told to keep an eye out. Me being young and stupid, I saw one stealing & went after her. When we got into the middle of the mall there were other members of the group and they tried to surround me. I got out and saw the security guards standing off to the side watching me do their job. That's when I was struck with common sense and walked my butt back to the store. I never "saw" another shoplifter after that.
Girrrlll, I was the "key" manager at Payless which simply meant I could open and close without the managerial pay (when I first started teaching, hence the need for extra money...but I digress).🤭 Ours was in the mall and Payless would love to have employees in the store by ourselves. Folks used to catch on to that based on their shoes that I found in the boxes.😩🙃😄 I was not about to lose my life trying to chase a thief. That's Payless's problem not mine.
@@kellyroyds5040 Yes, my mama used to say, "You can buy their shoes just buy several pairs and don't wear them all the time."😄 I used to love their sandals.
Technically security guards are there to watch everyone then call management and/or the police if something like this happens because they can get in trouble with the ACTUAL police/law if they hurt someone or something, so really all should’ve did was lock the front door before the person stealing left of called someone after they got out the door💁🏾♂️
Yep. I was certified once upon a time. Only did it because they were hiring for the Super Bowl. Didn't get hired, but used it for a huge PGA tournament that came to town. The limitations of the role was emphasized... A LOT during the training. So no. Bruh got it wrong wrong.
Happened at a grocery store near me. Man was stealing security guard confronted him. He took out a knife & stabbed the security guard. His security collegue came to help, in the struggle to get the knife away from the thief & prevent themselves from being stabbed the knife went into the thief side & he bled out at the scene. Those 2 security guards are now in jail for murder. The shop owners fired the whole security company & the security company lied saying they the guys had fake ID & security papers to get themselves out if liability. And now most ppl in my neighborhood is supporting the death thief & calling the guards murderers. Nah they definitely did not get paid enough for this kinda mess.
First of all, about the “you think you better than me?” Yes. I do b**** 😂😂😂 Now, I work nights as a guard. Retail guard jobs are hard. You do have to actually work. Here’s the mistake he made. Once the thief drops whatever they stole grab it and return it to the store. I’m not swinging OR getting swung at for nobody period. And also, if you want a “do nothing job” work at a warehouse or construction site. I work at a high-end building (they’re gentrifying so it’s in the hood). I politely tell people they can’t loiter and go back to my nice, comfortable, luxury desk. If they don’t comply, the police station is literally around the corner. The job pays 50K a year. Don’t sleep on security. Just be thoughtful about how you go about it.
What in the “ ToP Flight Security of the world” the co worker thought he was gone do??? This man look like he got jumped. Know he turned in his “ Whistle”! 😂😂😂😂
LISTEN! I ain’t running after NOBODY that is bold enough to steal!! My granddaddy use to say; and might I add…I 👏🏼 BELIEVED 👏🏼 HIM! “If they steal they kill, and lie” THEREFORE because I love my life I’m going to call the POlice! That’s all the “securiting” that I’m gone do! 😂
I am him.and he is me! Years ago when I worked a retail job, I worked the service desk at Stein Mart. I told them if someone comes in stealing that's non of my business, and if someone tries to rob the store it's paper or plastic! Take it all just let me go home to my son!
Lmao 🤣 my brotha mad as hell man. He slammed the hell outta that car door and said "hell nah, im finna quit". 🤣 I feel it man. I worked at Starbucks when I was 16yrs old and a dude came in looking shady. He avoided all the cameras and kept his head down with his hoodie on and avoided eye contact or responding to our greetings. He went to step to the register with his back to a camera and a reached in his hoody and my ass got the fuck on outta dodge and he ran outta the store. I quit that job. Im here to make Frappuccino's sir.. whip cream... lil bit of caramel... liquid diabetes bro.. that's it. To hell with a companies money.. they print money out of a machine. They only printed one of me. You can't just go print another Charles out of some cootchie lips. I gotta take care of me... the Lord only gave yall one of me. Praise him now.. glory be to God.
Way back in the day I worked nights at a 24hr gas station in a nice neighborhood. A teenage boy--fifteen, maybe sixteen--comes strolling in one night with a garbage bag in his hands, proceeds to scoop up about a dozen cartons of cigarettes, and then dashes out the door and down the street. The whole thing took no more than 5 seconds. I call my manager and let him know what happened and he says to me, "Why didn't you go after him?" "Go after him?" I said. "And do what?" "Tackle him! Get those cigarettes back!" my manager shouts into the phone. I rolled my eyes and told him, "You don't pay me enough to go to jail for assaulting a minor." We all have our boundaries. Know what I mean?
You have tickled me so much this morning! I’m sitting on my porch just laughing (I’m 58 now. I start every morning sitting on the porch) and I know my neighbors (they are older than me and the unofficial neighborhood watch) think I’m losing my mind laughing with no one else here💜
Girl! I was standing in line to check out at a local grocery store when this woman ran past me with a big tote full of groceries. Why this cashier on my checkout line decided to stop what she was doing and chase this woman outside , why they got in a scuffle and everything in that tote was all over the parking lot? Why after all that the cashier got her ass beat up by the bag lady behind bread, eggs and a couple of chops? Why she walked back tore up to the manager and security guard who didn't even move?
I worked at payless through highschool and my early 20's. This one guy was stealing shoes but he put in a application a few days prior. I just called his home phone a woman answered. Turns out it was his mom. I politely asked her if she can get him to return the shoes he just stole from the payless that he applied to a few days ago. She was mortified. He brought them back and I put his application in the trash!
Girl. haha. I am dying of laughter. When i was in university. I Worked at a Dollar General as a manager and was in the back counting the money and had the door locked. Watching the cameras while the i forget what they are called but my shift mate was supposed to be cleaning. But this night she opens the door for a coworker who just quiet letting in her, her girlfriend and nephews. The 5 of them stole up the whole store ( side note the store was junky cause our head manger didnt really care about presentation) I didnt leave that room till they were done and after they left. I acted as if i saw nothing Because i was not dying that night. After all said and done I went home and went to sleep. haha. i was living alone out of state and didnt need people coming for me in my sleep. haha
I felt this down in my spirit. I've worked in retail since I was old enough to get my first job. I've been put in situations where customers were stealing & I definitely chose to mind my business. I've been fired because of it & I easily made peace with it. They really wanted me to fight strangers, pay out-of-pocket for possible medical bills, and receive unpaid recovery time. So go through all of that for merchandise that's insured by the company?.....NO MA'AM!
I can totally relate. On a particular job that I had, I had been so use to NOT doing any work, that I had the nerve to have an attitude when I was asked to do something. smh
Anything in the parking lot is EXTRA. Fighting for what? That was NOT his merchandise. They are insured for theft. I once had a job and I announced " If it comes to my job or yours, my family or yours, count on me to do for me and mine"
As a fellow person who works in retail, I can definitely tell you that at times it's not worth trying to stop someone from stealing. They get mad at you, activate Karen mode and demand to speak to the manager, curse at you, and even worse, assault you. We often deal with psychotic entitled people and we can even get in trouble for putting our hands on them while we have coworkers that will turn the other cheek when they see us in trouble. Sometimes it's just not worth going home with a headache from them or going to the hospital, while dying, because of them.
I still wouldn't. Not worth my life...plus that job don't care anything about you. If you get injured playing hero they'll get rid of you, and replace you in a heart beat 🤷🏾♀️.
I remember my first job at 16 at Arby's as a cashier. My manager tried to hand me a plunger talkin bout some go unclog the mens toilet that was filled to the top with poop and water. I politely replied to him what my job description was, which did include clearing the bathroom, but aint said nothing bout no plumbing work. My thing is why would he ask a young girl to unclog the toilet when he was a man, the manager, and he already had the plunger in his hand?
Say it! Fast food places need to hire janitors or just have someone extra who can take time to clean the restroom or at least the inside of the store. When it gets busy, it can look crazy in there and everybody starts complaining about napkins, straws, and condiments being out
I do Security, and a few years ago I was watching the parking lot, when some people left out without paying at the restaurant. They asked me how come I didn't get them. I didn't know they didn't pay. Plus I was observing the parking lot, not tryna be a Super hero. 😂😂
that happen with me when i worked with a call center that i was only suppose to put in orders. then i started to get cursed out and harassed, then told i was suppose to upsell. I quit the next year when i got the first chance
Happened to me when I was working at Walgreens, aka "Hell- green's." The lady who was a shift lead (not even a manager lol) got mad at me cuz I gave her attitude about not going after people stealing. Yes lady, this $8/hr I'm making is so awesome that it magically makes me wanna go after petty thieves in a drugstore😃🙄🙄
Stopping people is not in the job description. I’m not getting paid minimum wage to risk my life. Payless can hire some off-duty SWAT if it’s that serious.
This was me when I started in psychiatric nursing. Had a month of training, how to de-escalate patients, how to take down patients, etc. First time I had to actually do a take-down... that was scary. Oh, did I mention I started my nursing career at age 51? Yeah, these old knees gave out after 4 years. Switched to high school nursing.
My daddy a guard but he legit gotta whole gun and everything. They made him take A gun safety class and all. And all he Say is if they don't stop at the sight of the gun, it ain't his problem 😂😂😂😂
Me 20 years ago, just change Payless for Sally Beauty Supply...um I'm working here part-time while in hair school, I didn't read nothing about stopping 30 HBCU students from cleaning y'all out👀🤷
