The fact that he wasn’t immediately trying to get his daughter out of the house and away from the scene probably gave the police a feeling that he was involved right away. It reminds me of Shauna Tiaffay’s murder. I don’t remember if Mike has covered it or not. It was about 10 years ago in Vegas, he was a firefighter and she was a cocktail waitress at one of the big hotels (Caesar’s maybe or the Palms) She filed for divorce so he hired a homeless guy that he was friends with to murder her…bc he didn’t want her to divorce him. He had their 8 year old for the night and the next morning just showed up “to pick something up”. No idea why he wanted to be the one to discover her body, but the asshole brought their daughter inside with him. So he purposefully had their 8 year old witness her mother’s dead body lying on the floor, having been beaten to death with a claw hammer. WHO DOES THAT?!?! A guy that doesn’t care about anyone but himself, just like this guy. Disgusting.

All very sad, but Kelly Clayton was especially sad considering the circumstances, how her children were right in the home, Charlie saw it all and hugged her mothers dead body 😢 Our wretched "claim to fame" in the true crime arena. I wonder if there is any sort of law that a person has to be informed if their spouse takes out new life insurance or suddenly increases their life insurance. As insurance seems to be such a common motive they could remove this motive simply by having a law in which the insurance company must confirm with the person getting insured that they know their husband/wife has suddenly doubled their life insurance or is taking out five life insurance policies on them.

I do not know this story, but I believe most insurance policies will NOT pay out if foul play is involved. Of course, arrogant and narcissistic people likely "think" they will not be caught. But I would think an insurance company SHOULD have photo ID and signatures of not only the person who buys the policy, but of the beneficiary. And yes, any/all changes to a policy SHOULD require BOTH parties to be present, or no changes can be made. Yes, greed is much too prevalent nowadays, as a motive for murder, to let these processes stay like they have been for decades. That should become State/Federal law, IMO.

When I heard the little one say "he had eyes like Dad", I thought about it too, because it obviously wasn't her father. But I think back to the times when I've been around a seriously violent person. Most people describe how their eyes change. The pupils dilate and it's commonly described as though they had "black eyes". In doing so, it makes people look "Evil" for want of a better word. It seems Michael had a temper, by his own testimony, and it's quite possible that little Charlie had seen her father in an enraged state, especially leading up to it, unless he was a psychopath, it's likely he was on edge to say the least. It's also clear you have to be in an enraged state to commit this kind of crime too, you can't beat someone's head in when you are all Kumbaya. I would assume this is probably what she witnessed, apart from the horrific murder that is. Poor little ones that's the kind of thing that will stay with her for life. I hope she is given the support and therapy to heal and to go on and live her best life despite it. Little man too. They lost both their parents that fateful night. Selfish greedy prick, those kids and Kelly deserved better. 💔 The broken heart is for each story I come upon where someone is killed by family violence. RIP Kelly.

@@franksnbeans7413 well, they’re not all saying that, though are they? *Every single* case, *every single* person is different- and you can’t just judge someone off of what they say right away. You need to go off of the evidence, don’t you? Each person handles tragedy *very* differently. There are some cases where it seems like the spouse has NO emotion whatsoever, but it’s due to complete shock from finding their loved one murdered. With that said, we know here- that he’s guilty obviously. But you can’t just walk into a crime scene every time with that mindset assuming that it’s the husband etc, you have to at least have an open mind and not have blinders on so you are able to do a proper investigation. Too many people have been wrongly charged and convicted for murdering their spouses because the cops have blinders on- for the very reason you two are assuming they should just arrest the spouse right away based on a simple statement. What if the spouse walked in and saw their spouse beheaded?? Or their spouse is completely bloody and ice cold to the touch because they’ve been dead for 20 hours? And they were just too overwhelmed to even say anything else about it? And they just wanted emergency services to get there as soon as possible? Trust me.. I’ve seen *plenty* of cases where I can think of where this “trust me” can come into play.. plenty..

She was trying to do anything she possibly could to keep him from harming her children. & unfortunately she lost her life, fighting her damndest. Wow! I really hope the kids are ok & doing well. Especially Charlie. After hearing what she witnessed & went through. Hugging her mom one last time, before going upstairs & protecting her little brother, shows so much courage & bravery at such a young age. I really hope she was able to get some form of therapy so she was able to work through all of that. That was way to much for a 7 year old little girl to take on. Especially to be thinking it may have been your dad, too. So incredibly sad! It's alot for anyone to take all of that on, less a little kid.

I wondered whether it was something the little girl had maybe seen before? Mike didn't say there was any previous DV incidents reported, but it was an isolated house and easy to cover up anything under a trip to hospital level? How could he care so little for his beautiful children? Putting them in harms way as he took their mother's unconditional love from them, making them watch and hear it being beaten out of her. I'm shaking my head wondering how he thought this was the solution to anything.
@kristiriley

@@luciuscornelius7177 I know. I often find myself shaking my head at alot of these cases, where it is one partner setting up another to be killed savagely in front of their children. Leaving them to witness it themselves, or to be horribly hurt, to even being killed sometimes also. It literally boggles my mind how a parent can traumatize a child in this way. Forget divorce, go straight to murder. Take one parent away by death, which usually ALWAYS leads to the other one getting caught & being taken away by way of prison. I'll never be able to comprehend these types of people, I guess! 🤷🏼‍♀️ & to respond to what you first brought up. About possible DV. That is a great point. I mean, I don't see how there really could not be any, to be quite honest. He seemed to be a very very volatile person. Didn't take much for him to lose his cool. So it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, if there were some DV reports, or at least stuff the children witnessed & heard in that home, which breaks my heart to the fullest. Like you mentioned an isolated house, not many neighbors who can hear the goings on, & report things. So it very well could've been kept under wraps. He did it. Hit men don’t beat a target to death. That was passion n anger murder. Prosecution just knew they didn’t have evidence to prove it so they too wat they could get. Mike and toms eyes are diff. That little girl knows wat she saw. I believe her

Between the life insurance dance, the hilarious ad (which I rewound and watched again), the one-liners delivered perfectly, and the surprise at the verrrrrrrrrrrry end (even after "Mike out!" for those of you who missed it), I can't say enough how much I enjoyed this video. You're so very good at this, Mike. Thanks for all the hard work you put into these!

Must have gallows humor in story’s like this or we would be too depressed to live in this whackadoodle world. Anytime there are life insurance clips I laugh out loud. Much needed levity! Thank you Mike for that!

2 things. I’m never getting a life insurance policy if I’m married, and it blows my mind that people would murder someone for 10k…

I am from Elmira and several of my immediate family members knew Kelly. And many of my family members were season ticket holder’s to the Jackel’s. The team actually folded because there wasn’t enough support or should I say in a ticket sales. But what do you expect for such a small town. When this happened to Kelley it devastated everyone. I haven’t lived in town since 1978, but I heard about it the next morning. Such devastation and such a young life. Kelley’s children are with her family however I’m not sure how they were doing now. I hope her daughter is fine and grows up to not remember the horrible details. I hope it doesn’t affect either one of the children, but I’m sure they will know what happened in time. Praying for them constantly.

I’m also from the area and know the family through mutual friends. Charlie and Cullen are both with Kelley’s sister and look happy.. I’m sure they’ve gone through a lot of therapy (her sister seems like an amazing mom, and would want them to do that). From pictures they both look happy.. but I hope they’ve been able to heal and find some kind of peace too. Horrible 😔
