A veteran of the American revolution lived here in the hills and it is our second time metal detecting this deserted homesite. This was a colonial farm with very little improved land, rock walls but no cellar hole. We had dug up a bunch of 1700s artifacts including a George Washington USA continental army button. There is a lot of history lost in the now overgrown villages and homesites that once spread across the land. Today with the Fisher F19 I dug up another pewter button and with numbers and letters on it. It very much looks like a regiment button with J5 on it ? We have never seen one before but its pewter and the way it is made there is no doubt it fits the time period.
