Hey Guys gotta tell you, there are many teams out there doing music reviews. What makes you guys the best is you are the only ones to play the whole song without stopping it mid song. Never stop the song!

Other reactors will pause to comment mid-song only because it can help minimize their reactions getting blocked, not because it's something they want to do. Alex and Andy have a Patreon channel for all the songs they react to which do get blocked, so that is their way of dealing with this issue.

Chaka Khan is worthy of a deep dive. She’s a living legend and has a voice that sounds like a choir of angels. A song from her time with Rufus that really showcases her vocals is “Sweet Thing.” Her first solo single “I’m Every Woman” is amazing, too. Her ‘80s cover of the Prince song “I Feel For You” is outstanding and has Stevie Wonder on harmonica. She was also featured performer on Steve Winwood’s “Higher Love” and really elevated that song with her stellar vocals.

Chaka Khan and Annie Lennox can also go high, which makes them awesome. Well, Karen Carpenter *can* go high, but as she told a friend who was complimenting her higher range as they drove around in the car, "The money's in the basement". I thank whoever suggested this song to you guys! Two things, 1. Every time I've heard this song in the last 40-plus years, it grabs me by my neckbone with one hand, my assbone by the other, and I'm all over the room, bop-stepping. And I'm Japanese! Secondly Alex, being musically inclined, listen to that "breathy section" again. Without the listener even knowing it, they've inserted an extra beat. If you count in the normal four/four and you try to join in on the chorus, you'll notice you keep coming in early. When Stevie Wonder writes a song, expect to be transported, man.

I'm a lifelong drummer, and it used to drive me nuts that I couldn't figure out that extra beat. I thought I was doing something wrong, turns out I was. I wasn't Counting incorrectly, just couldn't feel that five beat measure. Genius.

Click on to see what song blew their minds and as soon as it started I was back to the summer of 1974. I was 11 and was 'dating'an older woman (she was 12). Was my first love and this song was our song. I have to say 1974 was the best summer of my life and this song always warms my ❤️. 48 years later and it still sends shivers up my spine.

I can't tell you what powerful effect hearing this song as a young teen guy! The sexiness was so powerful, it felt weird hearing this with your parents and family! LOL!! Chaka Khan is one of my Top 3 Female Singers, All-time!! (The other 2 are Teena Marie and Sade.) The whole 1st album is great, I'd recommend "At Midnight" and "Sweet Thing" ('I will love you anyway, even if you cannot stay, . . .')!

Rufus has got to be one of the most accomplished bands in the history of soul/R&B. When Tony Maiden came on board is when they really exploded. Sweet Thing to me has some of the smoothest instrumental backing of any hit song.

That was the song where she cut her way to the top of the food chain as a singer in popular music. I was a kid and loved this song. She is a great singer. I have her greatest hits CD even now. The woman is one of kind, and a sensational, fabulous singer. Love from California.

Even when you go off into crazy analogy land, you usually have genuine insight into some aspect of every song your listen to. I truly enjoy hearing you parse out the elements of good music.

I just found y'all while going on a nostalgia trip through RU-vid. I really enjoy seeing 'my' music (music I grew up with- late 60s through the 80s) being played and enjoyed by younger people. It truly brings the generations together. Glad you're getting into the funkier side of things- I loved Funkadelic, Parliament, and anything with Bootsy Collins and George Clinton. If you listen, you can hear the beginnings of a lot of current music in those awesome riffs. And you'll hear the full songs behind the many stems and samples that are being used in today's music. I hope that you'll take a tour through dance and disco. Some people hated it (it was way overplayed), but I loved it. I'm more than happy to help you find some evergreen bangers! And thank you for NOT STOPPING THE SONG- like others here, it's something I really appreciate.

Great analysis, thanks guys! Here’s a “Did you know” fact I thought was interesting…Rufus evolved from a group called The American Breed, who had a hit with "Bend Me, Shape Me." They took their name from a column in Popular Mechanics magazine called "Ask Rufus," later shortened to Rufus when Chaka Khan joined the band in 1972.
