I am SO grateful to have grown up during this incredible era. The 1980s gave us the best movies & music and was by far the happiest time to be alive. This was the last generation to grow up without cell phones or internet. Thank God the younger generation is discovering our culture. Enjoy the ride.

Fun Fact - Don Felder and Joe Walsh did duel talk-boxes in the song "Those Shoes" while in the Eagles. To the best of my knowledge it was the first time (maybe only time) two guitarists in the same band did it together.

The last tour should be their last. Jon lost his voice, unfortunately. They've had to drop the pitch on all the songs. They don't sound the same, and his voice has lost bass quality. It's sad but they had a good run

What he was using with his guitar and the microphone is called a Talk Box. The best way to explain how a talk box works, is similar to what we used to do with our single earphone from our transistor radios back in the day. We would stick them in our mouth and open and close our mouth when the volume was turned up real loud to whatever music was coming through. You can do the same effect nowadays by taking a single earbud putting in your mouth with the music turned up as loud as you can get and open and close your mouth as the music blares. Now the way it really works is a tube is coming out of a small box amplifier up to his microphone and the amplified sounds of his guitar are being played through that tube which he puts in his mouth and he opens and closes his mouth in different ways or even talks and the microphone the tube is strapped to picks up both the sound of his guitar being pumped through that tube and in his mouth all at the same time and that's what you hear. Hence a talk box. He uses it in a lot of different songs. Sometimes he's actually talking sometimes he's just open and closing his mouth to get different sound effects.

Gina bringing home her pay for love, is saying since Tommy can't get work on the docks she's floating the bills. and that's what for better or for worse in the real world really means. Sometimes there's highs and sometimes there's lows. And you have to do what you can to make it. That's the real world. Anyone who doesn't know this isn't living in the real world. This came out when people weren't as fake as they are today. Many people today wouldn't even begin to comprehend.

When you "hock" something, you put it up against a loan (usually at a fraction of it's value) with the idea you get it back once you pay the loan. If you fail to pay, you lose the item. Basically Tommy pawned his guitar to try to get by while he was on strike.

The tube is attached to the wah wah pedal for the guitar which give 7:47 s it that sound when you talk into it. I went to a Bon Jovi concert once and managed to get out on the floor. I also fought my way to the front and was about 6 feet from him while Jon sang. The crowd I was in was not as large as this one, but it was no joke. My ribs were sore where I was pressed against the barrier. A lot of girls were passing out because because the crowd was too much for them. People would just pick them up and pass them over to the roadies to get them out so they could recover. It was the best concert I have ever been to. The music was a blast and Jon ran everywhere. There were catwalks so he could run around and get closer to the crowds further back. At one point he used a harness to fly over us and land on a small stage in the middle of the crowd so people back there could be closer to him. It was so much fun! I was absolutely exhausted when it was over. They definitely belong in the PDC. Performance-wise I would choose their MTV music video awards performance of Living On a Prayer and Wanted Dead or Alive. Jon tells the story of where the inspiration for Tommy and Gina comes from. Prayer is slowed down and it is just him and Richie Sambora playing guitars. They about brought the house down. MTV was so blown away the MTV Unplugged series was born where all invited artists played acoustic music. If you want great love songs there are tons of great ones in their catalog. Today I will pick Amen, Thank You For Loving Me, This Ain't a Love Song, and one that is newer called Luv Can. I love this band because a lot of their songs are upbeat and optimistic. Living On a Prayer is a great example, but there are so many more. The band has had its ups and downs, but this is a great year to learn about them because it is the 40th anniversary since their first album was released. They are releasing a documentary called Thank You, Goodnight next month in April 2024. I might add that I started playing guitar because of Richie Sambora. I love The Who too! Love Reign o'er Me is a great song for PDC material. Behind Blue Eyes, and You Better You Bet are good examples. One of the funniest ones is Boris the Spider. So much real deal rock and roll you just can't go wrong. Roger Daltrey has one of the greatest voices in rock. They are rock history. They were at Woodstock and are still great!

It's a talk box on the mic... It works like this... a speaker(a small tweeter) is hooked to a tube... So the sound of the speaker comes out the tube, which the guitar player can put the tube in his/her mouth. Opening and closing of the mouth, changes the tone of what is coming out of the speaker attached to the tube. The sound, is the amplified by the microphone that is placed near the tube(or by the guitarists mouth). Hope this makes sense. 😁

Girl, why wouldn't Gina support her man if he lost his job, just as he would ih she lost her. That's what love is, supporting each other even when times are tough.

It is called a talk box (or mouth wha wha) and the first person I ever heard use it was Peter Frampton. It is a gadget that takes the outputs of your guitar into the amplifier then you press a switch in the talk box with your foot the sound goes up through a tube into your mouth, where you can then “vocalize” it; changing mouth shape just like singing. That sound then goes into your microphone.

the effect on with the guitar is called a talk box.. it has been used by many artists, but i would say the tune that is The prime example is Do You Feel Like I Do?, by Peter Frampton.

My wife has seen Bon Jovi 5 times. Me 3. My daughter and sister went with her the other 2. She would be quick to tell you they are definitely in the PDC! 😂🤷‍♂️ My personal favorite is “It’s My Life.”

Bon Jovi "Wanted Dead or Alive" ruled high school for 2 years. Peter Frampton was the first person I remember using the talk box - it's an interesting invention that channels the vibrations of your voice into a machine. Bon Jovi for sure belongs in the PDC. Richie, the guitarist was a heart throb in his own right.
