I've been a professional drummer for 46 years. I've played ALL styles of music both live and in the studio. But I have to say that in all of my musical life, in all the bands I've been blessed to play and collaborate with, this "Follow the Light" track has just completely blown me away. The amazing "pocket" that these folks were able to establish is like NOTHING I've ever experienced. Especially given the fact that I understand that they didn't even record this video in the same studio with each other. Dirty Loops was home in Sweden, and Cory Wong (who plays with such funky precision) was in Minneapolis with his horns. They are all completely outstanding musicians, but that BASS!! THE BASS!! I hope he was standing near a bucket because the FUNK was just dripping off his hands. The triplet-slaps at the end of some of his phrases slayed me. His solo was on another planet. Him and the drummer (I've seen his solo in "Work Shit Out" and he's completely GOLDEN) are joined at the hip! I've watched this video about 11 times, and it drains me each time. MASTERPIECE!
I can't put my hand on what, but this entire comment made me smile. I'm proud to discover dirty loops through my brother (who is a drummer). I will also start my bass journey soon and really look forward to learn the techniques used by henrik. wish me luck!
I tell everyone I play this song to: "If this doesn't get you in a good mood, you have no heart." Just fantastic. Can't wait to see them live this April.
Your comparison between Dirty Loops and Snarky Puppy was so on the money. Both are full of virtuosity, but Dirty Loops ALWAYS brings the musicality! Now that you've found Dirty Loops, have a great time going through one of the most amazing catalogs of songs EVER!!! At 76, I'm a musician who's been around and around and around the block and can say unequivocally The Loops are the greatest collaboration by 3 musicians, that I've experienced! Not hyperbole.
WOW 76. its so awesome sitting on this instrumental/underground high horse only to have such virtuosic playing humble me down into loving lyrics and high level singing.
@@LANSpace211 Is this supposed to make sense? "instrumental/underground high horse" WTF, man, sounds like you're pissed about my many years of experiences. If that's not it, perhaps you could rephrase it in terms that anyone could understand……
All of those, with a special favourite being Next to you because of (a) the gospel tunes, and (b) it feels like it's never going to end (spoiler: it does).
Yeah Dirty Loops has One of the lushest singers and one of the finest bass players and one of the finest drummers. I have been playing music since 1966 and I thought about taking up a new hobby when I first heard them. I have since licked my wounds and resumed playing. Cheers from the left edge of Canada. ~ulrich
Subscribing based on this reaction. No matter what song, be it cover or original, these 3 Swedish lads (& whomever they choose to join forces with) light you up & this one is particularly catchy. And if you listen to them every day, you stay lit up! Any song, & you will hear something that makes you smile, groove, or raise your eyebrows skyward & exclaim, "WHAT WAS THAT?!" Even on a beautiful ballad type song, your soul whispers to your ear, "WHAT WAS THAT?!" Others have made good suggestions. There is no bad pick. Welcome to Dirty Loops.
I agree that bass triplet is sooooo eargasm, just so good! Great vocals, funky groove, tight horns, wicked groovy guitar, oh and did I mention some NASTY bass? Ahh so good!
Welcome to the club. The rabbit hole is deep! Everyone else will pile on with the specific recommendations....explore the entire category! Great reaction...keep up the good work!
Welcome to the world of Dirty Loops. I loved your comments about how the make a song that shows off their phenomenal talent while still making a beautiful song that can be enjoyed by all. There are so many choices to recommend but maybe try one with just Dirty Loops like Next To You, World on Fire, or Work Shit Out. I look forward to your next video.
You said "it's locking my soul up" and I FELT THAT! Because that what this song does to you. Puts you in a chokehold. Cory Wong (guitarist) and the horn section are complete monsters on their own. Like...they don't play no games AT ALL. Check out their Paisley Park album recording. And Dirty Loops are legit my favorite band right now. Specifically the bassist. He's not human and I'm convinced there's nothing he can't do. The two bands have several more videos from their collaboration album you should check out ('Turbo', 'Ring of Saturn', and their cover of 'Thriller'). But I'm also dying to see you go down the Dirty Loops rabbit hole and just do everything you can find because everything is awesome.
I keep seeing you in these Dirty Loops reaction videos! These guys are on such a high level that it's so much fun to watch musicians and producers and composers all react to the sheer brilliance of Dirty Loops. My reaction the first time I heard Follow the Light (my first Dirty Loops song), I literally had tears streaming down my face, it was such an amazing thing to experience. Not much music has that effect on me.
@@eugenemorrison2720 I guess you can say I've become somewhat addicted. I'm not any of the things you listed, which can sometimes make me feel quite out of place when I watch and comment on most of these reactions. Once it gets technical, I'm lost. I'm just a fan that adores them.
@@miff227 perhaps I just need to start learning an instrument lol! But really, like I said, I'm just a fan. I love what they do and it's had personal impact on me over the past year. So I just try to show appreciation and give them their flowers while they can still smell them.
Henrik's bass is handmade by Mattisson Bass and they make a Henrik Linder signature series. It's got one of the most beautiful bass sounds I've heard (in the hands of a very skilled musician, which I'm not) and cost about USD $15k. Henrik allegedly plays his bass 5-6 hours a day.
Haha thanks Cody! It’s moments like this video that make me so glad I do this channel. I love that I captured the first time I heard Dirty Loops, it was such a mind blowing experience. And it’ll never be that awe-striking again. Thrilled you enjoyed it! ❤️
Love seeing you finding Dirty Loops for the first time. To get an idea where they started from, their cover of 'Rolling In The Deep' would be a great place to start...then maybe 'Hit Me' followed by 'Next To You' or anywhere you would like to go. Enjoy the experience as we soak up your discoveries. It should be magical.
Every DL track is instant playlist! I'm def with you on Snarky Puppy as well. World On Fire has a fire bass solo also and Work Shit Out has a kick ass drum solo. MORE DIRTY LOOPS PLEASE!
Completely agree with you! It’s interesting that so many of the reaction reviewers I’ve watched, who, like you, zoom in on Henrik‘s incredible bass lines. He, like Aron and Jonah are without a doubt masters of their craft! As a keyboard player, Jonah’s wizardry foors me…… ALWAYS!
Great post Steve. You are now in the ranks of the Loopified. Always check the credits. They have a sense of humour. DL are like the three cleverest kids in the class come together for a project.
Hahaha, great reaction. I just love to watch someone finding Dirty Loops for the first time and seeing their minds implode. :D DL hasn't made a single bad song, so if you want to make more reactions to them, you can pretty much pick any song, and you won't be disappointed. My absolute favourite is Work Shit Out but, as I said, they're all stellar. Everything from the first covers they released back in 2010 up until the collab album Turbo, that they did with Cory Wong (who plays the guitar) is just mindblowing. The three guys on the right, Jonah, Aron and Henrik, is Dirty Loops, and they recorded both audio and video for the whole Turbo abum in Stockholm, Sweden. Cory Wong and the horns did their parts in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Aron (the drummer in DL) did the video editing to make it seem like they're in the same room. Gotta love modern tech when there's a pandemic going on, making in person collabs impossible. :D I'm not a drummer, so I might not be totally accurate here, but I think that huge side drum is called a gong drum? Any drummers here who can confirm that or correct me?
Correct Lotta about Gong Drum. From Drum Workshop's website: "The Gong Drum is a large single-headed mountable bass drum/tom hybrid that produces a very low, staccato fundamental. DW's gong bass drum incorporates several design innovations and mounting options to better meet the needs of today's progressive players. Featuring a 21" or 23" (both 16" deep) 10-ply undersized all-maple shell for increased projection"
Well, that was fun to watch! Genuinely enjoyed your reaction and comments. Do follow the DL trail for a while - you will not be disappointed! In addition to others already mentioned, I'll suggest DL tracks "Rock You" and "Ta Fete". Also, for more focus on bass and drums check out "Pink Power", "Bitten by the Kitten" by Songs for Lovers (a DL side project). Thanks!
It was so good to see the music just light up your soul. This is how this song made me feel. The talent was on another level as you stated. Almost bring tears to your eyes. Absolutely an incredible song that changes continuously and pulls you in both mentally and emotionally.
I honestly thought I might burst into a thousand glittering pieces haha. It was absolutely awesome stuff. I’ve been listening to this song pretty much on a loop ever since.
Great reaction👍. Love to follow your Dirtyl loop journey (I hope). You can’t miss “next to you” and “work shit out” if you continue down the rabbit hole
The recording of this is even more fantastic. The three swedes and the Us guys have never met. The swedes recorded in Stockholm and Cory guys in the US. Then mixed together!
Dirty Loops is a rabbit hole worth exploring! From their early cover songs to the original music,, all good. Everything from their EP collab with Cory Wong is great, but if you want to see their musical chops I suggest 'Work shit Out" as a great second video to watch.
GREAT reaction! It made me happy! It's fun to watch someone hear them for the first time. I'm a huge fan of .... Dirty Loops, Snarky Puppy and Castellucci (also Dimash, if you're not on that train yet, climb aboard)! Pretty sure I was one of those recommendations. To me, it's about quality and musicianship.... and you clearly appreciate both. This was filmed on two continents: Dirty Loops in Sweden, and Cory and his group in the US. The woman with blue hair playing alto sax is also a monster in her own right.... Grace Kelly. She also sings. She's done some crazy good duets with Leo P. Oh, and if it's a straight Dirty Loops song (not a collab w/ Cory) take time to read the credits. They're typically salted with hilarious extras. Have fun! Warning: they're addictive!
And while I'm not the musical Aurora, I've had this tag since Google, about the same time the singer was born.... who is "real"? what is real? Should I change my name for her? Nawww... I don't think so.
Were you tearing up? I hate to admit it I was. Next level outstanding musicianship does that to me sometimes when I'm caught off guard!! Don't tell. :)
just re-watched this reaction after the first time awhile ago, and forgot how hilarious your reaction is/was, not making fun of you,cuz i had the exact same feeling / reaction hearing this song but it got me in stitches laughing, so thankyou for that aswell. perfect reaction and feedback once again hahahha, cheers m8
Haha thanks Sky! Yeah I also enjoy going back and seeing the first time I heard bands that I’m now massively into. This one… I was just so unprepared for the immensity of it! It was comically amazing as a song. I think it may end up my most played song on Spotify for 2022.
Ahhh friend great bloody reaction. A reaction like this -to me-is as good as they get. Honest, great shared enjoyment and wonderful comments. I will let you know that Dirty Loops are not the biggest band in the world but it's fans are loyal and adoring...that is to say you have just opened a door to many heartfelt requests. There are some amazing things you should know about this incredibly tight song: Cory and crew (left side) and Dirty Loops (the three magicians on the right as of this recording had never met in person. Cory's gang recorded in Minneapolis MN and DLoops recorded in Stockholm, Sweden! I often feel that Loops music is for everyone with an ear that musicians really get them. Based on that identifier I'm going to recommend "Work Shit Out", "Wake Me Up" older tune. They first came on everyones radar by putting up RU-vid videos that have since received millions of hits. Also "World on Fire" and the epic, incredible "Next to You". I think of this one as DLoops "Bohemian Rhapsody" it's that good. So go wild and know you'll have plenty of fans ready to jump down this rabbit hole with you. Welcome to the club. Oh yeah, that big ass tom is called a gong tom.
Yeah, this song lights you up, makes you feel alive! I’d love your reactions to their version of Thriller, as well as Turbo, Next to You, Work Shit Out…. and so many more :D Thought it was interesting how you pointed out not just their great chops and musicianship, but also their knack of crafting accessible, groove-along songs. When it comes to that, Dirty Loops always hit the mark for me. Looking forward to more of your DL reactions, man 🔥
You just opened up a big pandora's box bruh. Dirty Loops is DEEP on RU-vid. Each one of them is top tier and their various videos showcase them all. On top of all that, they actually write catchy songs too! Do a reaction to "Work Shit Out", or "Hit Me" next.
@2:30 That drum is called a gong drum - you nailed it sir! Drummers like Todd Sucherman (STYX) and Simon Phillips are famous for using gong drums. And these guys KILL-IT!
Welcome to Dirty Loops! They are incredibly musical and also accessible. Try Thriller (also with Cory Wong) and Next to you by Dirty Loops. You will be blown away!
thanks A llLOTtt for your positive reactions, and the recent Henrick Linder interview !!! just to add something, I' m sure you'd be delighted to read at least once the credits till the end of Dirty Loops videos... love their sense of humor there. Can't wait your next share 🙂
Welcome to the DL fan base. And yes, bassist Heinrik is one of the baddest men on the planet. Great vids of his jazz chops out there. Suggest 'Next to you', next.
This may have been a YEAR ago, but I just discovered this band. Your reaction is SO close to mine it's nuts. I couldn't sit still as I kept being amazed with every turn of phrase.... every brass lick... every drum riff, and the BASS!!! Too many words would be needed. Great reaction!
Subscribed, in anticipation of more Dirty Loops stuff coming from you! Thanks for the reaction, spot on! I find "Coffee break is over" fun to both watch and listen to (purely instrumental). As someone said, it looks as though they just throw something together in a hotel room (which is not the case, but is still has a very relaxed atmosphere).
I love your reaction! Seeing people discover Dirty Loop (here with Cory Wong and brass) is pure joy! 😃 You have a lot more to enjoy!! Ps. Did you see the face of Grace Kelly during Henrik’s solo?! 😄
Great reaction to a great song. I'd recommend Work Shit Out, Breakdown, World on Fire... I mean, you can't go wrong with any of their songs. Ring of Saturn with Cory Wong is also amazing.
Joy joy joy … almost brought you to tears, eh? Ya, me too. 🔥🔥 Dirty Loops was the trio on the right side of the screen (filmed in Sweden) Cory Wong on guitar, horns, etc on left side (filmed in Minneapolis I believe). They collab’d on a whole album (I believe). Just discovered these guys and still trying to figure it all out.
watching your joy listening to this could be a cure for so many ailments......love the music, love your reaction, can't wait to watch again and again.......just wish it could have been longer.......more please.....
A M A Z I N G reaction video, absolutely love it! I mean, the song is 100% incredible, but your joyous and appreciative reaction, complete with the knowledge and.....baaaaah, I have no words! :)
I was one of those who recommended Dirty Loops to you in the snarky puppy video, i knew you will love it - god-tier musicians playing "playlist friendly" songs ;) The core group is the singer/keys drummer and bass. Cory wong (the guitarist) and the brass section players joined them for this collaboration. follow up should prb be "Dirty Loops - Next To You" or "Dirty Loops - Work Shit Out", both are amazing.
