@@RevelationOne They are MEANT for small cages, if you actually looked into it you’d see this is the perfect size for them. They don’t travel, they don’t migrate, they stay at home and ambush prey. There is nothing abusive or mean about this. In fact these tarantulas NEED US. Like all other domesticated species they would not last very long in the wild. It’s not so simple as “let the spider go.” I swear I see so much ignorance in the spider hobby, maybe look things up first before commenting.
@@verminted5243 Obviously you are new lol, I don’t mean this as an attack at all, but this size is PERFECT for Midas, they aren’t meant for huge enclosures, the bigger the T, the bigger the enclosure but they prefer smaller spaces to burrow in, you should check out Exotic’s Lair, he keeps his HUNDREDS of tarantulas in cages similar to this.
I have awful aracniphobia and your videos are helping me. So thank you for showing me spiders aren't that bad ❤️ Edit, Midas is such a beautiful spider! Despite their aggressiveness she is so fluffy and her fur is beautifully colored!
@@samberg1477 sorry you feel that way, some people can't be helped. Also I watch his older videos, there are a lot of tarantula dying videos only because he has so many, and they can only live for so long. He's not a bad spider handler. He just wants to educate people who care for tarantulas with those videos . But tarantula Kat is also awesome. I love them both.
That was flowerpot fungus Kat. It will happen in almost any substrate. It’s not harmful to tarantulas. It’s just unsightly if anything. I would suggest mixing in sphagnum moss with your substrate and it will hold moisture better. Also you really should add springtails to humid loving setups.
I did notice those bulbs that made me go “Oh mold grows mushrooms?” Lol. Im glad I found this channel tho a few months ago, the community is full of smart and cool peeps and while I dont have a T yet Im defo gunna have one in the future, and theres no negative affect to knowing more about a topic you love lmfao
@@midgematic8659 mushrooms are simply the fruiting bodies of mold. It serves the same purpose as fruit on a bush: to reproduce. The mushrooms are its method of distributing spores.
Hey Kat! Since you love rocks as much as I do, I wanted to mention: look in gravel pits for fossils. Gravel is often mostly comprised of limestone, which is very "soft" and a lot of times mined from ancient seabeds and full of coral, snail fossils, crinoids, and shells. I have found a ton of cool fossils just picking through parking lots.
Yes! One of my favourite memories with my dad growing up was going fossil hunting just outside the local gravel pit. Our best find was a small (okay, _tiny_ ) ammonite! Lots of fossilized shells and trace fossils, too. 😄
I'd just like to say you and Exotics Lair and Dark den have helped me get over my arachnophobia with some spiders I'm kool with Ts and jumping spiders, other species not so much I still have arachnophobia but yall have helped it out alot thank you, keep up with the good videos love your channel.
That's fungus Kat lol. 🤪 Coco peat and fiber both grow fungus if left damp for too long, just like most any type of wood or wood fibrous material such as shavings and etc. You can mitigate it buy adding sand and sphagnum to your cocofiber mix when you make it. It allows more aeration while also keeping the substrate on the more most side if need be. Just thought I'd share my experience cuz I've noticed a lot of keepers having this issue, especially those of us (like you and I) who live in more humid climates like Florida and other southern parts of US and South America.
ok, that spood looks like someone took a hair straigthener to a curly hair. or like the long haired chihuahua of the spider world. i can'd quite decide which.
I get nervous just opening my spiders enclosure It’s a B emilia I hope it’s not a massive hair kicker but he kicked hairs at me a couple days ago no reason, just did after I fed it
"looks over at my N tripepii who just flicked hairs by proxy" her- "so anyway I started blasting" p.s. absolutely love this species they got just the right amount of attitude for me (shes even more nuts than my golden baboon and my indian ornamental)
OMFG YOU PUT THE LID IN FIRST AND THEN COAX THE TARANTULA ONTO THE LID THAT'S THE MOST GENIUS FUCKING THING I'VE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one of those T's you need a hazmat suit to rehouse them😂. She is a beauty though frfr. I recently switched to the jungle mix and I love it and my spiders seem to like it better to. Tyfs God bless you
That looks to me like the easiest way to not handle a tarantula. I like the idea. The enclosure looks beautiful. Well done. 9:10 lol Looks like she made helping her extra fun.
Got a mature male nhandu tripepii he's absolutely nuts tbh maintenence to his enclosure can be awkward cuz he's very bolty and does throw up threat postures when irritated but it's a beautiful tarantula I never use coco fiber anymore because it would just always grow mould and spores of God knows what I use either a brand called "spiderlife" it's vermiculite and topsoil mixed or a bioactive mix u may not have spiderlife in the states I think it's a European brand but it's like lugardi pretty much
Headphone warning at about 7:15 to 7:20 if you are a weirdo like me and have a bad reaction to squeaky sounds.... I don’t know why it bugs me so bad but it reminds me of how dogs react to dog whistles.... I know I’m not completely alone though, that nails on a chalkboard saying comes from somewhere.... I just have extra intense reaction to it....
Greetings you fabulous Earthlings and Happy Wednesday!! 👋👽I bring coronavirus-free thin crust pizza to all you friendly Earthlings 🍕Don't mind me, just cruising by:::::::::::::::::🛸
They're called "urticating hairs", where the word "urticating" means iching or irritating. They cause a form of allergic reaction. If they get on your skin they'll cause a really painful rash that can last weeks. If they get in your eye or you inhale them, you're in for a world of hell. Inhaling them can actually kill you, if you inhale enough of them.
Tarantula kicks hair and we see Kat's bare feet skitter away to the wall. TOO CUTE! We do absolutely adore you Kat. Thank you for another fun video and hugs from a grandma in Georgia 🤗
@@ShadowGirl3055 around 250 degrees and no longer then 2-3 mins👍🏻 just hot enough and long enough to kill any parasites. But it also depends on how alive or dead they are, just watch it and u should be fine
I LOVE this intro ❤️❤️❤️that music sounds all magical and spooky I absolutely love it! I only discovered you a few day’s ago but I love your vids! I’m so excited to get my first spidey soon 🥰🎉you’ve given me so much info and inspiration 😘😘😘💕xxxx
@@RevelationOne exactly. For all the "stuff" she's putting in the enclosure and also the size of the arachnid, a larger enclosure is definitely in order.
She's scared, and if you're scared, she can sense it. I would usually tap three times on my T's cages so that they know it's me; try to establish a rapport with them. Sometimes they would be skittish and kick hairs at me; if they weren't bolty when they did it I would try and gently pet them until they calmed down. Then take them out on my hand. Calmed me down as well as them.
Hmmmm... Seems like the Subrate is a Little too Compacted.... Maybe add some Sand and/ Boiled Eggshells. Should help it stay a Bit more Aerated, and less Mold chances. (Egg shells are more for Terrariums, adds Phosphorous to the Subrate, without adding Too much nutrients)
After learning that tarantulas will LITERALLY KICK HAIR AT YOU that is like fiberglass that makes you itchy, i will never complain about dog hair ever again.
Nooo, why did you have to remind me of that horrible Tim burton version of Charlie and the chocolate factory!? I thought I had forgotten it long ago....lmao...
…you bought dead leaves? …you went to a store, then proceeded to hand over money to some guy named Josh for… ….dead leaves. That reminds me, Im selling some volcano insurance if you are interested?
What a cool video! I know nothing about tarantulas. My father got me one when i was way to young to properly tale care of one. I came here to see what it looks like when they kick hairs (sorry, i got to learn at your expense). So, umm might you know of a good breed for a beginner and that rolerates cold climates? I live in the north and it gets a little chilly in the house during the winter. Thanks, and i hope you are your T buddies are doing well
Can you use activated charcoal in their habitats to prevent mold? It’s pretty cheap to buy in a carton in the aquarium section. Terrarium hobbyists also use charcoal.
You left old substrate in there, nevermind sterilizing the glass? Do you know how mold works? That substrate is full of spores. In a few weeks you'll be dealing with the same problem >.< . You have to empty everything and clean the glass!
I wish I were 50 years younger... I am 72 years old and am an amateur entomologist. I love damsel and dragon flies... but I can understand very much your love for spiders... I find you so beautiful, as I said I wish I were 50 years younger :-)
Just a thought, but wouldn't adding dead leaf litter encourage mold growth? Especially in high humidity? Also, you could try making the jump to bioactive, and add those squiggly springtails or isopods (roly poly where i'm from). I've heard they really help with that. Thanks for the vids.
Have you considered adding hydroballs and a layer of screen to facilitate draining of any water? I am not as experienced of a keeper as you so that may not be necessary for her, but watching Mark and Petko, that is what they did for their T's.
I know this sounds stupid, but seriously a small Wet/Dry Shopvac is epic for getting all of the substrate from tanks. You can put a bag in and when you are done it's ready to go. No hairs, no excess dusty, no problem.
I know zilch about tarantulas but was so intrigued by this video. We wear long scratch proof gloves at my animal shelter to handle feral cats. Would this work for you?
My Tripepii has the same attitude problem. Hates me doing anything in its enclosure, I do the same as you did, distract with food then work quickly before the hairs start flying. Lol
My B.boehmei flicked hair like crazy, when i opened the enclosure she always came jumping towards me, as a spiderling she was cute and after becomming adult she was a basic bitch. Is this something that happens more often or do i drive T's insane?
Kat I caught a tiny jumping spider! No idea what species. Feed it cricket legs yeah? It's just tiny. Do a little soil and a stick in a small container? Some leaves?
maybe cover it? im not sure if is light dependent. Those little hairs can stick around for days.. you get tiny little itchy bumps on ur fingers./ Ive tried various ways to pick them up (like tape) but its difficult when you cant even see them. I just tape over the itchy spot and try not to scratch it/ I thought I inhaled one once, bc I couldnt stop coughing when I would try and talk.. luckily it cleared up soon.
I don't know how & why i watched so much of your videos this last days coz normally i hate spiders .. This is like a luxury therapy for me lol ..This said i evolve, slowly but surely thanks
Now I by no means I'm real knowledgeable about tarantulas but maybe once you put her back in her enclosure and lifted the top off you just left her be until she climbed off lid by herself. Close the cage and come back later. Once she has moved on. No flickering cuz she didn't feel threatened. Just leave the lid in there until she's ready to move on. Just a thought.
Me researching uricating hairs: nope. I can never keep a a tarantula because of itchy hair Also me: keeps snakes with ability to crush the breath out of my body and inwards facing dagger teeth
Someone had got tarantulas and they wanted to get rid of them and so I took all 3, I actually have always been scared of spiders but I feel bad for all animals who need help. When we got them their tanks were super small and they weren’t really housed they way they needed so me and my partner whose owned tarantulas, we got them housing but one of them throws hairs as well, I just thought maybe she had her web stuck but she’s very very very moody spider, always wants to eat and be left alone 😂
