I used to buy 27” iMacs every 3 years. After using maxed out 14” MBP, I don’t think I’d ever go back do a desktop footprint. It is great having the power with my anywhere I want. If I want a bigger monitor, I just clamshell it at home.

If you really loved Rene’s content and work you should also like Rene as a person because he is the content and that same work. And if you really loved Rene as a person you would give him your same support as he transitions into this new career he has going for him.

Apple’s pricing might be frustrating for some, but their product line offers something for everyone. The only missing piece I hear mentioned often comes from “prosumers” who need a Mac Mini Pro/Max.

Yes and I am concerned that they might use the Mac Studio as an interim until a bigger iMac comes along. These may overlap but that also doubles options for consumers.

@Jon David I get your point! Forme I have been using an iPad 12.9” Pro for a few years as my “laptop” computer as my old iMac 2007 just could not update for years and was way too slow for even email. After 5 years of Gen 2 iPad Pro it was time to get a new one and I wished they had a larger iPad Air because that would be perfect for me. My only choice was an M2 12.9 iPad Pro.

I suspect it’s a sort of required thing when working for any of these alphabet’s and apples so was no suprize. Friend of mine started working at apple and said he doesn’t need to switch he can still use his android 6 weeks after that he now has a iphone 14 and apple watch so yeah..

Bummed that Rene works at Google and cannot get them to fix the broken RU-vid Apple TV app, needs update to support the new silver Siri Remote that came out over a year ago. Skipping ahead should not require three clicks when it is only one on the OG Siri Remote.

The Acer Spin 513 Mediatek Kompanio 1380 SKU for ARM powered, Chromebook productivity. When I got my Spin 713, the 2022 513 is what I really wanted. I am glad that I didn't wait b/c of Steam for ChromeOS, but I still want one. Faster than an i3. Marginally slower than an i5.

iPad Pro M2 8 GB vs 16 GB RAM. Explain the difference when I want to use it as a wirless external display for my mac. Does the wirless display function uses ram insted of storage? hey please help, I want to make a decision soon but this isn't easy because everyone I managed to ask before in some stores managed to give me some false informations.

Rene, since you mentioned how great Android separates the accounts on Android I thought I'd ask you since I've sent feedback to Google and not received a response. Because my family are technical idiots, I have somehow ended up paying for all of their domains and Workspace Accounts! I can't change the billing for a specific domain or workspace account because I am the admin for all of them. Any ideas? I need admin access to all of their accounts, but I want them to pay for their own services.

@@ReneRitchie Hey Renee. I use my Pixel as my main camera for kids and family events. Also for watching RU-vid, Netflix, etc, emais. It's also my main line. It's best to use the Pixel 6 Pro for the things I mentioned, because of the bigger screen. I also love the call screening features! It's a must have. For iphone it's facetime, iMessage, and apps. It's also my main music player when on the go. And I love the size of the regular Pro. I'll be using this setup for a long time. I love mobile tech, iOS and Google software. 😎

Can I buy new M2 MacBook Air to replace my intel i5 MacBook Pro 2018 - 13 inch( I don’t use that Touch Bar) Is this beneficial? I want more internal storage and better screen in budget (my i5 MBP just have 256/8)

If I was someone who traveled a lot like you do I would have made the same choice. I would have bought the M1 Max 16” MacBook Pro instead of my Mac Studio. But I don’t travel. As for a phone, my iPhone 11 is just fine for what I need though I would like to perhaps upgrade to one with a better camera next year.

Ipads are just too limiting, but the 16in is arguably not as portable (i have one). What i would love to see as a portability laptop (even tho I personally wouldnt need/use it) is the return of the 12 mb but with m1. That thing would likely be so light portable yet powerful enough to suffice any ipad pro users who dont need pencil or mini led uses

12 -inch MB screen might be a bit small for video editing etc. I haven't tried it but a 13 inch screen seems cramped.

I prefer having both so that I don't have to unplug and plug in all of my monitors. The Studio also serves as the home NAS.

The youtube channel I work at just upgraded to Mac Studios for the projects we do and we went from a studio that required we proxy all our videos before we started editing to being able to edit natively. Our export times went from hours to less than the length of the video (usually our content is 40+ minutes ish). We don't need the portability but it makes sense that you do! This machine has absolutely changed how quickly we can turn around content now though which is great news for us.

Are you using the same number on both your iPhone and your Google phone???🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I am locked into the Apple ecosystem, but I would like to try Google pixel, I love the cameras on my iPhone but if I could get the same quality or better with a cheaper phone it would be great to try. Using the same number on 2 phones would be possible by getting a voip service to take that one number,, and keeping secret the two phone numbers that are actually used on the phones. the google phone would probably leak the actual secret number when you sent SMS, but the iPhone wouldn't leak the secret number if you always used iMessage. Maybe if you didn't send out Caller ID that leak wouldn't happen.

Different numbers/SIM cards. But if you're just testing you can swap SIMs (I'm in Canada so my iPhone 14 still has a SIM card slot)

My M1 Ultra Mac Studio that I'm typing this on right now is my primary desktop PC, and I"m watching this while playing some EVE Online (yes, it's supported). For the size, this thing is extremely powerful and I love it. I have gaming PCs for other games and a Threadripper (3970x/RTX 3090) box running Folding@Home over in the home theater room acting as a space heater while running calculations to fight cancer. I have no need for a full laptop, as I don't work or really go anywhere, for medical reasons. I have an iPad Mini for that portable youtube, reddit, and social media for when I'm not at home, and I just bought that Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra (the big one) as a fun device to play with since that is the first Android device I've owned in 12 years. I have a lot of tech :)

Laptops are just better for most use cases because they have *almost* everything you need to do work with. The 1 thing that most of them still lack is a SIM card and still need to be tethered to a phone when remote

I go with the Samsung Galaxy Ultra/IPhone Pro Max combination. No other Android OEM has an S Pen equivalent so I never consider buying them.

This is why I say having the latest tech in every stage of your life is not needed. “ iPhone 14 pro max with an iPad Pro 12.9 inch with M2, then a 16’ MacBook Pro maxed out with the M1 Max, then a maxed out Mac Studio with an M1 ultra………..like why do you NEED all of that? Lol There is no room for you to enjoy any of it and eventually one of those items will be useless and a waste of money. You overlap. Get what’s important. Sometimes our love for tech is a curse because you want everything but in reality not all of these things are even for your workflow. And in reality like 2% of people will ever even need all that tech. It’s overkill and don’t fall into that abyss because it definitely is one.

Is this shameless Google plugging what we are now to expect from the once great advocate of Apple? From the 3-4 minute Pixel advert to the not so subtly placed RU-vid stickers on the MacBook Pro. @@ReneRitchie for me the biggest divide I would like to see is in management somehow, having some sort of Secure Enclave that can separate the work access and management, so that companies don’t need access to personal data, it’s a hard feature to implement (source: I work for one of the big tech companies) , let’s just hope it’s at the top of the priorities list! Love the what does android do better lists, hopefully apple is listening !

First world problems when people can’t exist without a single phone and a laptop 🙄 Tend to keep my iPhones for 3-4 years and my current MacBook Pro 2015 is 6 years old. Hopefully upgrading is to an M2 machine this year, probably a Mac Mini or Studio depending on cost, etc. Will hang on to the 2015 Pro for now though. If money was no object I’d probably get the MacBook Air 15” too if that does appear. Portability is more important than power.

Rene, there's talk again about Apple dropping support for older iPhones and it bricking them. And people having to use weird workarounds like upgrading their iCloud to retrieve it before discarding the phone. Can you talk about Apple Silicon Macs and what kind of support Apple will offer them? Intel Macs from 2012, 2013 or even earlier are still functional. Does tighter integration between Mac/iOS/iPadOS services and codebase mean cut-short Mac lifespans?

Those people who say Macs are too expensive have no clue how long a Mac will last. I get 10 years out of my Macs...easily. And they are running modern OSes. One or two iterations behind the most recent. I use a MacBook Pro 15" from 2012 every day. It has an SSD, new battery (that wasn't needed, but why not) and I just upgraded it to 16GBs of RAM. Same for a 2011 iMac that just recently started having monitor issues. But it was a 2K 27" monitor. I don't edit movies or any real heavy lifting these days but old Macs can easily do the basics and more. In fact I just bought a new iMac from Best Buy on sale ($600 off) because they are now discontinued. It has a 5K 27" screen and I added an extra 32GBs of RAM. All for less than $1200. It doesn't have the new ARM processor but I don't need it.

I would really like to see competition to IOS. Now that you work at RU-vid, maybe you can convince Google to create a mobile platform that not as porous as a sponge. I tried an android phone but I really felt that everything I was doing was being monitored by servers around the world.
