A Rodecaster Pro II. I use it regularly but I kinda feel like it's overkill for in-home recording which is largely what I do. Not a mistake per se, but I think I could've been happy with something smaller and less expensive...
I obsessed over the DJI Mavic 3 Classic versus the Mavic 3 Pro, for at least 6 months. I was stubborn about getting the Pro because I would be forced to get another DJI RC which I didn't need. I could get the Classic as a standalone drone, not so with the Pro. I already had a compatible DJI RC from my DJI Mini 3 Pro that I could use with the Classic. I fussed long enough that the price of the Classic dropped by 21% ($400 CAD), and so $800 CAD saved by not also having another $400 RC forced on me.
I came for the Hollyland Lark M2 review. I stayed for the whimsical delivery. Oh and was compelled to subscribe too, without reviewing your channel for eight months first, like I might sometimes do!
Same!! And I see myself in that hyper focus research… I so don’t need this mic right now …not even got started with my channel, but shiny object syndrome is my absolute downfall! But you’ve definitely convinced me that this is the right bit of gear to go for and answered aaaaaaall my questions!
Loved the video. Listening to you express your struggles with G.A.S. and the “mental gymnastics “ of making a purchase really made me feel like you were reading my mind. So nice to know I’m not the only one. Keep making that solid content!! 💯
Not me watching this whole video even though I just bought the RODE Wireless ME like 2 months ago 😂 absolutely agree with the comment about the logo tho, it’s so obnoxious… I often wear the mic backwards to hide the logo, it’s such a pain. I love how small this one you got is!!
haha I was SO CLOSE to getting the Wireless ME based on your recommendation! I really hope this starts a wave of making these a LITTLE more inconspicuous. That being said, I've heard concern that the smaller these are with smaller batteries, the more likely they are to go caput earlier. But we shall see!!
Aw welcome aboard!! Appreciate it, and hope you enjoy the mic! Fun fact, been using it almost every other day since this video, and just charged it for the first time last night!
I love your vibe! I, too, am a victim of getting one of those cheapie Amazon wireless mics. They're great in a SERIOUS pinch, but my dear god they're not good overall lol. Thank you for this great review!
You literally were expressing exactly what I’ve been experiencing as a content creator these past few months! Your content and delivery is so refreshing and needed in the tech community 🙏🏼
Literally got me to subscribe due to the amount of “that’s fkn me!” moments when you were talking about the GAS and hyperfixation. I’ve got so much gear that was gonna “change the way I create” that are just now gathering dust. 😅😅 Glad I came across your channel. Definitely looking forward to following your journey. 🖤🖤🤘🏽
Hello!!! I'm so glad this resonated--I was like there is no way I can be alone in this. 😂 We've got this though--one step at a time, we'll unpack our GAS 😂
Yayy I’m so glad!! It’s been over a week that I’ve had it now and I am in LOVE. I’m so much more likely to shoot on the fly, I couldn’t recommend it MORE!
LOVED THIS! totally relate to everything you said about research spirals and trying to work out if I really need something or not. It's hard for me to spend money so I research A LOT before purchasing anything. I think in this case with the mic I definitely do need one as I'm editing a video now that I filmed using the camera's internal mic and it sounds pretty terrible, even with adobe audio enhancer!! Anyway, I've been going back and forth between a bunch of different mics and I'm seriously considering this M2 one after watching your video!
You got this!! It really is so hard to pull the trigger on a financial decision. I definitely recommend the M2 though--it's been MONTHS and it's the one purchase I've made that has truly without a doubt made me create MORE.
OMG! I feel so seen! Lol yes, this is me 100% for all of my tech/equipment purchases. I especially sprial when I've bought new equipment for myself because I'm as a yoga and Pilates teacher, this is not my area my area of expertise. I lamented for about 6 months before I finally upgraded my old Saramonic with the DJI last fall lol I almost bought the ankerwork wireless mic because it also came in purple! I went with the DJI because it was the smallest and least brand in your face of the big brands, but yours is TINY! This was such a cute video!
Ahh I’ve found my people!! 😂😭 down to the desire for Purple tech-the Anker one also piqued my attention but the size along with the logo had me a bit like 🤔. It really is such a roller coaster, The DJI is such a solid choice tho-I see it everywhere!
Thanks for sharing your G.A.S. story - I struggle with that too - fixating on a piece of gear thinking it will make me happy. Nice audio is very nice though haha.
Great video! I just ordered this mic as I’ve been using the ol’ $20 Amazon cheapie for the last year. I’m hoping it’s an improvement! It sounds good on all of the videos I’ve watched. Oh, and yes, GAS is a real problem in my hobby. I just made it 5 months without buying anything Astro related! Baby steps! 😅
“Pitching will humble you” GIRL felt 😭 I know it will come to you soon because your content and quality are great! Mic comments: Omg it still sounds so good even in the shirt! Idk if you edited out the movement but I didn’t even hear you moving the necklace. You looked so refreshed shooting outside, so I say if you enjoy it then try it out 🫶🏽
ahh thank you!! I find pitching is REALLY hit or miss--but when in hits--PHEW does it hit. Ooh I think I edited out one ruffle, that was me being really brutal with it haha but otherwise no noise--was super impressed! Here's to more outdoors content! It'll force me to breathe more fresh air I think. 😂
ahahah I appreciate you because that was MY favourite part. 🤣 But seriously I SO recommend this mic, It's actually inspired me to shoot more spontaneously already and it's just been a week.
@@CreatingwithKaya Yeah, I was recording new podcast episodes via my Bluetooth headphones for a bit. Right now, it's more about just finding the best formats for my ideas and finding the time to get them all queued up so I can never have to feel the feeling of scrambling for content ever again 😂
@@CreatingwithKaya LOL. Finishing performance review season for the next two weeks then looking to take a little time off to take a load off and polish up some more of this content 🤩🤩🤩
I absolutely need this in my life. It’s on my RU-vid gear wish list. $180 is not bad to get the combo option. And omg the annoyance of the removal for play back. Not having to do that is such a small thing, but such a big thing!
haha my people!! Removing the little dongle thing was the bane of my existence--like you say so small yet so big in the moment. 😂 And as an update a month or so later, definitely STILL LOVING THIS MIC.
This is the best comment--that's exactly what I was hoping for, thank you for watching! I don't think you'll be disappointed, I'm STILL such a fan of mine. Best of luck to you!
This is the best review I seen on this mic and I’ve seen like 20. I’m glad you skipped all the technical details as what matters most is how it performs in day to day usage or how it changes the workflow. I’m now convinced I need to get it lol so thank you!
I am so honoured by this comment!! And if it's any help, I've used this mic obsessively since I've bought it--zero regrets, and it holds a charge SO SO SO well.
The M2 is definitely a great little thing, but if the area is windy you will *definitely* hear it, with or without noise cancelling. I'm not sure twirling around will cover the same scenario lol. The only other con I'd say is not being able to split the audio when using two mics through USB-C, as you will end up with a 'merged' audio stereo track. Although you can circumvent this issue by using the TRS cable or TRS -> USB-C cable.
hahaha you are right in that twirling probably doesn't do it justice 😂 Oh that is very true about the splitting--I don't really have that use case for mobile (so far), so it hasn't come up, but that's smart about the TRS to USB-C!
My people!! Oh NOO that's brutal that it was a pricey mic--that's the whole other side of the convo, even if we have the 'good gear' it can STILL go wrong. 😭
Great video Kaya! I usually don't buy things by impulse, although I can totally relate that when I buy, I get very anxious to receive it asap. Thanks for also sharing about your attempts to pitch companies. It's a pity you didn't get them for free (you totally deserved it based on how good your videos are). 'Cause I know this was not the goal, but it was also encouraging to me to keep pitching brands.
Thank you for watching! The post-order anxiety is real! And I'm glad that resonated and appreciate your kind words--pitching really is SUCH a long game full of a lot of rejection, but when it pays off it is SO worth it. I'm hoping to do a video about pitching soon (and doing more of it in the process).
Haha, your whole introduction about GAS is so recognisable! I heard the Hollyland m2 gives HIFI quality sound. Is this true? Does it give a much better sound than the microphone of your telephone?
Yess--so I don't know much about HiFi myself, but their website says it is--and I honestly think the audio is remarkable. I've been getting a lot of compliments in recent videos--I use it exclusively now! WAYYYYY better than my phone.
Oh thank you!! I've got the link in my description--it's the Canon RP in this one with the 35mm lens. My newer videos have been shot on the Nikon Zf with a 40mm (full disclosure camera was gifted by Nikon Canada).
I bought a set to test out for podcasting. But unfortunately I feel, although they sound quite good, it's not enough to be able to use them for that purpose. For vlogging, or upgrading your Zoom calls audio, they're amazing.
Oooh the lapel one is definitely a good one and it’s SO CHEAP! It’s the AGPTEK mic, it’s weird tho it only seems to be on Amazon Canada? (An affiliate link) amzn.to/4bFZU9D Also it’s funny because when I watch this video back I am like oooh yeah the noise cancelling definitely could come in handy!
It’s sooooo tiny!! I just got the Dji mic and I love it 😭 because i can just plug it in and go. I am super grateful that my husband does all of the researching and makes the big Decisions (gear wise!) for my channel because I have no interest in that stuff 😅 I was using my phone and a cavalier mic for the first 16 videos on my channel 🤣 and not even the back camera, I was using the selfie camera cause I wanted to be able to make sure the shot was ok 🤣
Hey, if you've managed to escape Gear Acquisition Syndrome then you are winning (and I'm a bit jealous. 😂) it's been a problem for me since the get go. I think that also proves though that gear isn't everything--just gotta get out there and create!
Great video Kaya! I've been looking at getting a wireless mic for over 12 months but haven't committed yet! I've been thinking about the DJI one but this also looks like a great option! I really enjoy your videos. I would love to learn how you script/plan your video, you talk to the camera so naturally. I feel like a robot when I talk to the camera 😂 but I guess it's just practice.
Thank you for watching!! As you can tell--I know the feeling. 😂 It's tough to commit to a purchase like that. I really do put my vote in for this mic. I've used it a BUNCH since getting it in and it's only been a week. OOh I'll definitely add that to the content list. I think it definitely comes with practice but I think the way you script can help so I'll work on putting some notes together! Thanks for being here! 💜
I've been SUPER impressed. This has been such an easy plug and play option for me, and actually has made me more likely to pull out my camera and film.
Ooh the one I was using before? It was the agptek mic off Amazon--it doesn't seem to be on Amazon US though weirdly, but it shows up on Google at some other places!
Girllllllllll..... You sound just like me, I have the same issue. Good to know there is a name for it and I am not alone. P.S I have the same gimbal and I don't use it sighh
Hi. Can you record stereo with two microphones? People say it records mono and you can't separate audio channels for two different sources. You mentioned mono and stereo mode but have you tried it? Thanks.
Since you're obsessive about research, you must have thought about other wireless lavs at similar price. There are lots. What were your close alternatives? I have a Fulaim X5. Sure it's not as small as the M2 but has some extended facilities.
Oooh good question--- part of my obsessiveness is that once something really peaks my interest I get laser focus, so I can't fully remember what else I was looking at. 😂 Truly was looking at the M1 though . The design of the Fulaim looks pretty close to the Neewer--I wonder if they are manufactured at the same place?
@@CreatingwithKaya Yes I'm very happy with it. I'll probably not use the internal recording as I'm only a home user. It is very sensitive to location. 150mm in front of my mouth is definitely the best but naff for video. Under my T shirt 2nd best. A little EQ helps. The tags holding the windmuffs are very delicate and have broken off on one TX. Had to buy a 3rd party windmuff.
🤣🙏🏽 a month in and it’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. I’ve been using it in all my recent videos, and I actually started doing more reels over on my lifestyle IG account.
@@CreatingwithKaya i know because I am like this too. Btw, thanks for such a detailed account of your experience, yours was the last review i watched before i pulled the trigger myself :)
I feel seen and REPRESENTED in this gear review space. And you being outdoors doesn't really change much for me as the viewer unless its for a specific reason
Haha I'm SO glad!! and thank you for sharing!! I think the outdoors thing is really a *me* thing haha, I'm just sick of being locked inside all the time. 😂
