We drove past your area of the Ozarks on our way back from vacation and said a prayer of blessing over you all. Thanks for all the content you provide for us.
anyone who has raised ducks know that they always come out roaring even if they have food still available in their night pen. They just have dynamic personalities
I told my husband those aren't people that have or have had ducks (or any bird for that matter) even chickens act like they have been starved when it is time to eat 😂
I let my ducks out before the chickens because the chickens are pigs! The ducks will stand back letting the chickens eat everything. Honestly, I prefer my ducks. I get 3 eggs a day from the females. The chickens lay sporadic and eat more.
Anyone that would think you were starving your ducks surely couldn’t know much about ducks. Yours looks absolutely beautiful and healthy. Just keep doing what you’re doing.
On your old homestead, I loved it when you release the ducks and the would run and fly to their food and water. I have missed that, now I can feel that joy again ❤ love your videos
I live in northern Indiana. I saved a sucker off of my purple Cherokee last summer , planted it in a pot and kept in indoors through the winter. It didn’t thrive but stayed alive till I was able to plant it outside this spring. It’s a thriving producing giant outside this summer! Will be trying it again with different heirloom this year!
I am beyond happy that you showed how to plant new tomatoes using sucker branches!!! I am still new to gardening and this has made my day. I wanted more tomatoes however the heat has kept them from producing as well as they could have.
The ducks are so cute and the geese are gorgeous. Love the improvements too. Breakfast is feathered rush hour on the homestead! Love the greenhouse updates.
A couple weeks ago I accidentally broke a branch off one of my tomatoe plants. It was good size and I felt bad for doing that, so I dug a hole, stuck it in. I've kept it watered and it's growing great and at the same rate as the original plant. It wasn't a sucker, just a regular branch. As for the birds roaring out of their coop, my chickens do the same thing, every morning. Even though the night before, I put some scratch in a pan for them for the next morning and they have a waterer in the coop. They are just excited to get out and go do chicken stuff, 😅. No one is starving, they just all rush to the food because they don't want to miss out. They are all so pretty, and the Geese have grown so much. Waddlesville is such an appropriate name. Just watching the quackers waddling around is fun.
Lol it's nice that you all remain polite when addressing all your viewers when they (we) constantly raise concerns about things you know more about than we do. lol... so thanks for your patience, I know it can't always be easy...
Those are some happy birds in Waddlesville, i think they are getting everything they need to be happy. The green house is fabulous and provided you with a lot of food for the up coming year. Thanks for sharing your channel i have learned so much.
Great job Sarah and Kevin, loved the green house work and the Waddelsville segment too. Keep up the great videos and gardening instructions. Stay safe around there. Fred.
I'm in Carthage, Mo. Right now we're having lighting like the Lord keeps flipping the light off and on. The way I'm seeing my plants and the way the weather is leads me to blv winter will be here early . Gunna happen quick. Your ducks are BEAUTIFUL
Love to see the chickens and ducks come running out for their food... They are SO CUTE...! You both do a GREAT JOB taking care of them...! AND...you both do so such a great job at growing your garden...! The green house has been such a great blessing and helps to extend the life of your garden... ! God Bless... Shelly T 👍❤👍
I posted earlier about showing the ducks to my 13 month old grandson...later today the song 5 Little Ducks came on and on cue 5 x he said Quack..quack quack...thanks for your contribution to language development in a future gardening generation ..his mommy has a garden he knows very wrll❤
I have to say I just love you guys and your videos are so informative. This one in particular was perfect timing. It’s been so hot my tomatoes didn’t do as well as normal. I want to plant another round but knew I didn’t have time to start seeds. I never knew I could grow new plants from suckers! I’m using woven weave this year and it’s a game changer. Also, first year with jet stars and they are wonderful. Definitely planting them next year. Thank you for all the great tips!
My biggest learning curve in my garden year one is the weather! I can't handle the hot humidity we've had. I have learned to go first thing in the morning and then some time after 7 or even later so that I can handle being out there for any length of time. I'm glad things are cooling down for you :)
We do this with all our tomato plants and the pepper plants we do the same, but we cut them back and replant them in the greenhouse. Some of our tomato plants have been grown from cuttings for 15 years. And the pepper plants are over 10 years old! We get more out of the lettuces just cutting the leaves off instead of pulling the whole head out of the ground. It's amazing what you can grow from cuttings. We do use a heater in the greenhouse and keep baby pools full of water to add humidity. You are so helpful with all your information. We enjoy all your videos. Love to all and GOD bless you always and forever.
Beit Alpha are my FAVORITE cucumbers to grow! All this summer they have produced heavily despite a brief invasion of squash bugs, a round of constant rain, a round of no rain, and the extreme heat here in the Table Rock Lake area.
I started mine in Far North West Wa in July in tubs outdoors. Traditionally it's tough to direct seed squash and cukes till June cause soil is cool and wet and slugs. So I transplant in May-june. But all slow and only producing for last 3 weeks. The July direct seed is overtaking the transplanted vines. I tried 2 times to get Bennington green tint to direct seed. May and June. Nada much happened. July...they are producing now for a week. Rule of thumb this far north bean and ? Corn seeds in ground Mother's Day. We have huge daylight hour swing so a lot does better after solstice.
Wow, Waddlesville looks like an amusement park! Can I come and play too?? And your ducks do not look like you are starving them. They look so healthy and happy, just darling!! Melaney from SoCal
Goodmorning Kevin and Sara. Kevin your tomatoes are awesome but one thing for your small tomatoes plant red currant tomatoes they are the size of small peas. One plant last year we got around 200 to 300 hundred tomatoes and the plant was 8ft.wide and 7ft tall we were shocked but give it a try
Every Animal You and Sarah Raise. Look Beyond Healthy..Ya'll are an Amazing Couple. So Happy to watch your videos. Ive learned so much about preserving foods. Hope to get a freeze dryer soon.. Looking forward to canning and making tomatoe Sauce this year.. Thank You Sarah..🙏❤️🙏 God Bless Ya'll..
I never thought of Cheating with the Hybrids that way ! I learned something new today !!! I knew about cutting off suckers and starting new plants, but keeping a hybrid going... How cool is that.
I will be watching those tomato suckers, very curious! I no longer have a garden, but will relay the info to my daughter-in-law. Your videos are always so informative. I like your high-tunnel bucket planting, seems more manageable🦋
Thank you for your great video as always. Perhaps a tip/consideration. To avoid soil-borne diseases, I would prefer not to plant tomatoes or cucumbers in the same place / bucket twice in a season. Crop rotation, when possible is always worthwhile
I put dill seed heads at the base of my zucchini that I started three weeks ago and I have zero squash bugs so far. I had them last year so almost didn’t try zucchini at all. So far so good!
Thanks to you both for being encouragers and excellent teachers as you delight us who still dabble in farming a little. May the Lord continue to bless you both and all that is yours.
I actually started sucker plants in mineral tubs from 2 variety of tomatoes. I'm limited income and I have to be very thrifty. I bought 2 four packs of Beef master and Better boy tomato plants and then used suckers off those to increase my number of each type . That will extend my harvest later in the season here in Iowa. They're already setting fruit. Going to start new Zucchini plants now for another harvest. God bless from Anna in Iowa
The joy and exuberance of the ducks greeting the day is perfect! They would do that whether they're hungry or not. I'd be more worried if they weren't so excited 😊 Now you have me thinking about trying to grow some more lettuce. I'd be pushing that in zone 4 without a greenhouse but it's possible to have 2 more months before first frost and 3 months before a hard freeze...
Thanks for the clarification of the 'ravenous' foul behavior in the morning. I just assumed that by morning they're hungry and once satiated it evens out. However, their excitement of release is an event to behold. That was always my problem. Oh, I got beans and they're so good...num, num, num, and they're gone (but enjoyed). And then had to get new ones for the next year. Good on you that you have the discipline to allow your own harvest feed the next.
It must be so freaking irritating for these arm chair homesteaders to criticize you for things about which they know absolutely ZERO! Bless their hearts.
Love the hint about over-Wintering a tomato plant and using suckers from it to start next year's plants. Lots of good info in this video. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the heads up about the squash bugs. Didn’t know that. Waddlesville looks awesome. I’m doing the sucker plants also. Trying anyway. God Bless.
I'm surprised how big the geese are already. It seems like you just got them. I appreciate the tomato hint about over wintering. I had never considered that😮. I'm about to pull all my tomatoes and maybe I'll try it if I have any live branches left.
I try to watch one or more of your videos daily since I discovered your channel several months back. I am relatively new to the prepper life style and really enjoy your videos.
Your ducks are so cute and thank you for showing exactly what a sucker is. I grew tomatoes for the first time this year and 5 Roma plants gave me about 250 tomatoes. It was amazing. Never could figure out what a sucker was. Thank you
I love it when you release the kraken (?). They are all so cute!! I l especially love the one duck that is a stragler. People dont understand that they love the grain you feed them but they are all blessed to be able to dig around for worms and grubs and other yummies. With all the grass, oh and grass too, they would not be hungry, ever!
The bubblebeet channel has some nice videos of making a cup around a sucker, tomato and fig to create roots on the plant. Once rooted, the bulb is cut from the plant and planted into the ground ... another way to do the same
Kevin, I grew Spoon tomatoes this year for the first time. To be honest, they weren’t as small as I expected, I could probably fit 3 or 4 on a tablespoon, very similar in size to your Tomberry(sp?) I think. But they grew beautifully, they’re very productive and tasty tomatoes too. I know you’ll enjoy yours..
I wanted to give you an update - I tried this tomato hack with a sucker from a German Queen Vine and ... IT WORKED. It really worked!!! I can not thank you enough for putting this idea out here. This is going to make succession planting SO EASY!
Kevin, I really like your water station idea. However, have you thought about putting weed barrier on the ground underneath and backfilling with pea gravel instead of fill dirt? It would make it where weeds don't have a good way to take hold around your water station. And will save your back some from pulling weeds and weedeating that much more. Keep up the good work, my friends.
It's so nice to see the evolution and life span of the productive plants. I miss so much having a garden since living in an apt bldg! Melaney from SoCal
I'm a big fan of Beit Alpha cucumbers this year: they are parthenogenic and don't need to be fertilized, and since there are just female flowers the production is great! I canned up enough dill pickles for the year yesterday and will be growing the Beit Alpha next year for sure. Oh, and try adding any green tomatoes you end up with to your pickle jars, either fermented or vinegar-pickled. They're delicious as pickles.
I'm trying to keep sweet potato vine in the house, like a house plant, this winter. If it works out, it'll look like a jungle in here AND I'll have lots of starts next year!
