@@Airbaja I’m born and raised here in sin city. 30 years old now I miss the neon Vegas I say growing up. Not to mention I miss the stardust sign so much it was like a night light for me when we would drive home
@@daalv8016 I thought I'd entered heaven back in 68, it was 4am and freezing, my 5 dollar camera was up for the test. What a great place to grow up. Thanks for the kool comment!
I. think this is just great! The fact that your dad-y-o influenced you in this great way is just great! Watching your 1st film of Vegas was nostalgic to me...not yet back in California, I would have also been enamored by the magnificent lights everywhere and the beautiful hotels and casinos. Annandale VA or Smyrna GA had nothing like this!!!! I will enjoy looking over your postings!
@Nancy My first time there was in November of '69. My parents and I stayed at the Algiers across the street from the then 1 year old Circus Circus. I wonder how much longer it will be around? 😊
Very jealous that you got to experience this town back then. I live here now, moved here in 2022. I love it here but Vegas back in the day seems so much cooler. Like it had a lot more personality.
This is the Vegas I first saw. It was in a sense tacky but compared to the garish nightmare of today, the place had such character: there will never be a replacement for The Dunes, The Sands, The El Eancho, the original Tropicana, The Nugget, The Flamingo, and The Sahara.
I stayed at the Sahara their last week just for that reason RW, it was a bit sad, all the workers were bummed but festive, like the last day of High School, mixed emotions for most. One kool thing, they let you keep the glasses over the last weekend, got a bunch of stuff with Sahara on it, kool gifts to other Boomers, lol. Thanks for the comments. The morning I filmed it was the first time I laid eyes on the Emerald City, mindblowing! So glad I woke up and filmed it...
Obtaining such items right before they closed would have been very cool. I hope you don't sell them on E-bay. I've stayed at the Bellagio, Paris, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, the new Tropicana, and a few other places. They are lovely to look at but they don't reflect anything but what people today think is cool and for me that equates to tacky. If I want to see the Eifle Tower or shop the west bank I'll go to Paris, and if I want NEw York then I'll go there. I certainly don't want to see these things in the NEvada Desert, which has its own charms and that sadly has been lost.
Wow!! You know I played a gig at the Ballsy in 2019!! These home movies are excellent. Timeless. Sinatra cool although I always felt he couldn’t act. Great singer in this genre. By the way what went on in Vegas will stay there. 😂😳.x
The new Las Vegas is huge, bigger and brighter ! It's like no other town and down town is still the Vegas Sinatra' s song is about ! You gotta see it in person ! It's like wow town ! Ya gotta see it town ! The coolest town !
+Jeff Gonnerman Absolutely, I go at least once a year, but back then, Morgan Dollar slots, playing Black Jack in the Casinos at 14, there was nothing like the 'Rat Pack' days, thanks for watching!
Jeff, I could not DISAGREE more. The original Las Vegas was filled with glittering beautiful signs of exquisite craftsmanship that will never be seen again in person. The bankers have destroyed the legendary resorts like the Stardust, the Sahara, the Frontier, the Imperial Palace, and so many other great spots that people came from all over the world to see. The new Las Vegas has replaced the glittering splendor with big screen monitors and high rises with very little lighting. They even destroyed the pirate out front of the Treasure Island, one of the best signs on the strip that was so original, and these clowns replaced it with a worthless sign that says " TI ". You claim the new Vegas is bigger and brighter ? What planet are you from ?
1968 i was 18 years old cruesin down fremont street to the blue onion and back up to seals on charleston and las vegas blv and back too the union depo wich we call the donut good times
Beautiful. Seeing the RIv always pains me nowadays. I once lived in Vegas, moved there in '95 when I was 13. I knew the majority of these casinos because I loved arcade games, the competition, and getting high scores at all these places since they all had their own arcade. Some of my most cherished memories.
I was walking the Strip on the night that Sinatra died, the only night that I was ever in Vegas. To make it even crazier,I'm from his home county of Hudson in NJ.
My Family was living there, the year this film was shot. we moved to Vegas in '64...from an Air Force Base in Japan somewhere. Dad was stationed there. he ended up doing a stint out at Mercury ( Groom?) and then became Civilian ATC at McCarran Tower, 'bout 67 to '73. we moved to Northern Cal, in Oct. '73. i was so bummed. had all my friends on the block...and, i was 13 that year we moved. didn't want to go....but, i adapted, like you do. wouldn't move back to that 'shit pit'...for anything now. it's turned into Sodom and Gamorrah. Traffic, Crime, Insanity, and all the corps. too over the hotels. not like the old days....
Dang I wish I could have gone to Vegas in my 20s :( I never started going until I got married to Lisa , and by then I was 30 years old . Then by the time the kids were big and well behaved to leae with granny I was 34 :( long story and dang I have so many of Vegas from 1996 until 2007 , well we split up and dang we sure did do Vegas right tho , every 2 months we were there parting and watching shows :))))))))))
