I agree with your statement that it is a rip-off. And this is because they still haven't provided what they promised. And I personally can justify buying an expensive game (because I bought Tears of the Kingdom). But, I think the developers need to prove themselves. As someone who is going into a career that requires programming I know the work that needs to go into these games. But I also know from my leadership skills that if you promise or say something and don't deliver people will be angry as such they should learn their lesson quickly as I am sure they have more programming skills than leadership skills. Hopefully they turn this into a learning experience and they will function the way they were supposed from the very beginning.

1) In a world where steam exists, people don't re-buy games. This is not a reason to believe they will make money off of free launch. 2) Their own advertisement says "an Earth-like terraformed planet", even the launch trailer shows what is in the original game. Was there an old video showing these new features? If so please link. 3) What someone promises for future content sometimes never makes it in the original game because of cost over-runs. *See Bethesda This argument is about the cost of a DLC, only the cost. I agree it's too high, but should they take a chance on attracting new players by handing it out? They could lose everything gambling on not charging a penny. Think about it, their other games are meh at best, and I doubt they have a steady stream of cash to stay open forever. They have no other IP to fall back on like other studios if this does not attract new people. Would you take this much of a chance not to have working capital to keep your studio open?

For me, this game looked cool. Right up my alley. I thought it was early access so held off on getting it until they were closer to 1.0. Now, I don't like being taken advantage of, and I don't like those who take advantage of others. This is an unknown developer releasing totally unfinished product as a full release, then charging more money to complete finished features. So I will not be buying this game. Ever. Nor will I buy any future game from this developer. My money and my time are limited.

The devs have been constantly updating the game for free every week for 90 weeks at this point. If you've seen their discord or been actively part of the community, you'd know the devs have been operating on a loss, yet they still update the games for free while constantly being in active communication with their fans. Sure, you can say their first trailer made it seem that's what we're getting day one, but as someone who's been active in the community, most of us knew that those exotic environments and "aliens" will come along in time, and the devs have been transparent that they would release those eventually and as paid DLC's. Only those who bought the Supporter's Pack (which is no longer available) would receive these DLC's for free, so yes they did deliver AS PROMISED, but clearly this point has been missed since everyone seems to think these should still be free even though the devs made it clear early on. It's also clear that you have not looked into the lore as based on your words, you obviously think it's a planet with alien life. It's not, it's a planet terraformed to be like Earth, but things went wrong. Hence, the mutated creatures. The live-action trailers following that teaser have made that clear, yet again, you somehow missed them and keep pointing back to the first trailer, which happens to be a "Teaser" trailer btw. That literally means they are just showing or "teasing" things to come, yet you insist that this is their day 1 promise just based on this one trailer. I understand why you'd like to compare their situation with No Man's Sky, but you're forgetting the fact that unlike Icarus, No Man's Sky got a massive promotion thanks to Sony in the beginning, even if the interviews did come out seeming dishonest. Their launch was rocky all the same, but many more people in comparison bought their game thanks to massive PR and were able to fuel their development with those funds. Icarus didn't get the same treatment, yet the devs are still releasing updates for FREE, in a weekly manner. The only mistake I could see they did was releasing Icarus as a full game even though it was clearly Early Access, but that's about it. The devs can't afford to go back on their word and make the two promised DLC's (New Frontiers and Dangerous Horizons) free since this is their last major chance to keep supporting the game, that's why they're going all in on the first DLC and why it has to be paid. People are free to have their opinions, but if their opinions are based on ignorance, then they aren't entitled to those opinions. I'm not trying to fight you, but your rant with lots of missing context was hard to listen to without getting angry over as someone who enjoys this game and has seen what's been happening behind the scenes.

Sorry pal, but RocketWerkz is a pretty big game dev company, yet they "fully released" a game, which provides a lot less content than Valheim's early access, which is development by a small indie company. Dean Hall even boasted that he's working on a new AAA (after leaving DayZ with all the cash) which turned out to be Icarus, and the only AAA thing about this game is the price... I was a fool, ignoring many DayZ players when they said Dean Hall is a cash grabber and his next Icarus game is going to be the same. I learned this lesson the hard way, and I won't be doing the same mistake when I see his next "groundbreaking" game.

@@RealBloodsmith sorry, you lost me at “big game dev company”. While I agree Iron Gate Studios may be a smaller studio, which explains why they update so slowly, RocketWerkz has the same indie status with only 49 employees working on different projects (i.e., Astroneers, etc.). Yeah, i also agree they had a real terrible start, but guess what? They continued to fix and update Icarus for free for more than 20 months and are continuing to do so. Upset he left Bohemia Interactive to set up his own studio and left Day Z with them? So it’s fine for People like Kojima to do it, but not for him just because he doesn’t have a name for himself? Why do you people think that game is still his responsibility when he left it to their owners? If he wanted to drop Icarus like Day Z, he would’ve done it ages ago. Did you know Icarus was supposed to be F2P with microtransactions but they decided against it? Icarus is their passion project, and as far as I can see, this game has a better future than Day Z.

Hey man, I'm just a guy on the internet, and I want to highlight my take with agreeing that this DLC was too expensive. However, we as players have received consistent weekly content updates every Thursday since the game released. There is so much extra content from launch. I honestly had never seen the initial trailer for the game till now and I am a little disappointed that we're missing some extraterrestrial stuff. I don't think it would be hard to fit into the pre-existing narrative of a half terraformed planet either. Like if I'm gonna fight what is clearly a bear atleast give it armored plates or different colored fur. But, I digress the game is great, like you said. The DLC or what I've been able to play of it so far has really got me wrapped. Again, idk if it's worth 30 bucks. But I'm currently not regretting it

Dean over promised, the under delivered. One of the major things that made it different than other games was the fact that the mission session was hosted our the company server and anyone playing in that session could jump in at anytime. Well that axed that, they spun it as giving power back yo the players. That was bullcrap, it was about getting rid of long term server hosting cost, it was money plain and simple. Day one bugs still exist in yhe game. Like ore veins clipping so far into the ground you cant fully mine them. Are they moving in the tight direction, maybe. But one thing I saw that really pissed me off was Dean begging for people to go on steam and give postive reviews for the dlc to help convince people to buy it. We still don't dont have vehicles. They claim it doesnt fit the setting, instead pack animals do. Im no boo boo, we traveled light years away in a space ship and terraformed an alien planet.... and we are suppose to tame local wildlife for transport, give me a break. Then there is the content seperation for open world and missions. You can not, per their in game tool tips, mine exotics from open world mode. Why? They have made dome poor design choices, and it feels like they dont know how to actually pick a direction.

For the first time, our new map PROMETHEUS allows players to follow a storyline through a chained series of missions in the Open World mode. We are calling these 'Operations' and all can be embarked on from your permanent Open World base. Rewards are earned without having to return to orbit in your dropship. And that's not all...Currently, on Prometheus in Open World you can earn exotics by completing operations. You can also gain exotics the old way by launching missions from Orbit and going through the normal extraction process. In the upcoming patch (the Hypatia patch) we will add a way to extract exotics in Open World mode on all maps.

I got the supporter pack on day one and a paid DLC was the plan from the start. I think most people are upset because many people did not buy the supporter pack but bought the game based on what the original trailer included. And some of that stuff is now behind another purchase or still not even implemented. If anything the content promised in the original trailer should be delivered as part of their main updates. And the DLC should be content that is new never before been seen or advertised. Maybe some day that promised content will be a part of the main game. I dunno. But if it is the $30 is severely overpriced for a DLC now. I will likely play this because I do already have the DLC and I do really enjoy the game. But I do not agree with how they have done the DLC.

In my opinion the way Icarus is currently played is exactly the kind of play style I love. For those that love building huge castles and decorating the open world is for you. Then there's a few of us that love the idea of playing as a speedrunning minimalist that the missions give. You build a small place that you don't get attached to, complete the objective, return to station, spend and plan out your meta progression for future runs and then send the next mission. The audience that the devs are catering to has changed from when they launched so there's bound to be some people that dont like the new systems, story line, and gameplay mechanics. From the first trailer if that had really been the game we had gotten, I wouldn't have gotten it as its another generic copy and paste survival game instead the devs took a risk in changing it so much. Going from a Sci-fi alien lifestyle to a more realism type style with some oddities is acceptable for me. For the pay wall for those of us that have been following the DLC's development every week the DLC itself is almost another game using the mechanisms and early game knowledge we know from the base game. I get the frustration you're having seeing a 1/2 fulfilled promise and other problems. Unfortunately the game no longer caters to the broadest audience and is now focusing on those of us that have fallen in love with the playstyle it currently has. While any other person looks at the price tag and nopes on out of there. Anyone that enjoys this game as much as i do looks at the price tag and then thinks about how many more hours we're willing to work to get the DLC. If not buying it right away and buying one less pizza for the next 3 weeks.

I like how you can buy workshop tools very soon after starting but they last less than an hour before needing repair, a sickle last about 5 minutes. But to repair them you need a repair station which unlocks at tier 3. So you grind to level 20, then super grind to get all the stations build to finally make that one, only to find out that it has to be powered. So you look back in the tech tree only to find that while the repair station which needs power is available at tier 3, the generators are on the tier 4 list still far out of reach. Brilliant game play mechanics.

@@K162KingPin You lot just can't stop lying about the game, even if what you are saying was true, if you sat there for five minutes straight cutting fiber with your sickle you would have enough fiber to last you 20 years. @K162KingPin Год назад
@@jasonbow1926 I just got Starfield too, so far its fun, but I'm sure I will play Icarus more as well as time goes on. As for the workshop tools I dont' know why no one seems to understand this. Its like they don't teach reading comprehension in school any more. I am not confused about the purpose of worshop tools, or how to repair them either on planet, or at the station. I was simply pointing out the iron that the devs put the technology to build the repair station capable of repairing workshop items at tier 2 allowing players to unlock it fairly early, yet the station must be powered and there are no power items available at that level. So you can build the bench but you can't power it, so its useless until you are able to unlock at least some kind of power generator. Its like having a car without a battery, or a TV without a remote control. Or a shower with no water. So you buy the repair kids from the workshop, you unlock the repair station and build it, THEN you find out that the station has to be powered, only to realize that not only can you not build a power generator yet, you can't even unlock them until you level up several more times.

Nah you're basing this all around how we were "promised" this dlc from the start. They said before launch the alien stuff would be dlc, so maybe if you preordered for some reason (who is still doing this) you were misled The open world stuff they said was NEVER coming, and now we have that for free along with other things they didn't plan on like fishing. No vehicles but mounts. (They said they couldn't find a reason for vehicles, which is true they wouldn't work) The base game isn't even full price $60 or $70 nowadays, and if you play with friends only 1 needs to buy dlc I see absolutely nothing wrong with these practices and will continue to support them monitarily. No mans sky, I would never pay for dlc. They made way more than they deserved on launch and it was a full $60. Honestly, both these games have the same amount of replayability. Neither are really that good, but NMS has been out for 7 years and still isn't fun

I like the mission mode. Most people that don't like it are trying to play the missions like every other survival game. They drop in and spend a bunch of time building a huge base that is completely unnecessary when all they needed to do was wander to a few POIs and picks some plants. I like the challenge of figuring out the minimum crafting necessary to finish the mission. Once you get enough items unlocked in the space station you can drop in and complete some missions without building anything on the ground. They came up with a storyline reason for everything looking so earthlike (terraforming) but it was disappointing not to see the alien creatures from the previews.

I got the game early access after being in the alphas and betas. most was included with founder kits. The missions were a great change of pace. The best thing to come from the new DLC is that you can craft a communications device on your open world and complete the missions from the regular progression and they count as completed. You also get the rewards and unlocks. I think this is a great addition. This adds missions (without timers) to the game and gives new goals and boss battles to our open worlds.

They added (and keep adding) new stuff for free; the fishing, the bestiarity, the farming revamp, new workshop items, ..., soon (in a month or two) the ability to access missions from open world. The Styx map and missions were free for the longest time for everyone who owned the game as a "sorry" for everyone who lived through the rocky launch. After months, they decided to charge for it. It's an extra map and mission pack that is not needed to enjoy the base game. Their new DLC now is a new map, new story, new missions. I don't think it's weird that they charge for extra maps and extra content. Also note; you can play the new map and missions without getting this DLC if you play together with someone who has the DLC and hosts the session.

The things they kept adding in the weekly updates went also far beyond fixing their original mistakes, but added a lot of stuff initially not intended to the game. Added because of community feedback. You can't in good concience keep holding it against them and demand that all their future DLC's will be super cheap, or even free to compensate for that bad launch, forever. 🙂 Even if a few assets or reworked assets were used; claiming that the base game is an unreal engine asset showcase seems unfair and is just plainly untrue. And why is it a scummy practice to give the Styx DLC for free up til a certain time? On May 27, 2022, they announced "Free DLC featuring a new 64 km2 map, 14 new missions and new creatures, as a sorry for a rocky launch, and a thank you". They immediately mentioned this would become a paid DLC at some point in the future, of which they gave ample warning in advance. So the way I see it, people who were hit by the "rocky launch" - and then some - received it for free, as an apology. People who never experienced the rocky launch because they bought the game later, don't get it for free anymore, but can still buy it as a DLC. As for paying again for what should have been included, to which I assume you mean alien life forms; Rocket himself had this to say on a Steam forum post where some subscribers of you were flaunting your video (and ofc also throwing around terms like "fraud", "scam", "thieves" etc 😄): "The game was launched as “Icarus: First Cohort”. Advertised as landing on a terraformed planed gone wrong. First cohort was advertised as earth like. At launch we advertised two expansions, the first of which was to be New Frontiers which is when the alien world would open up. It’s very easy to see what was announced (even before the game went on sale). It’s also easy to find the documentaries where we talk about why first cohort was to be not alien, and why new frontiers would be our first alien zones. This was always planned and you can go read that very easily, and not resort to making things up."

My own valuation is simple: every $10 should be at least 10hrs of enjoyment. To that logic, I have 113.5hrs on Icarus for $35. Hilarious to watch a review of someone who hasn't bothered with the actual release of the expansion. Missions ARE in the open world now, you just can't get exotics (yet - that's coming in the next big free update, is my understanding). You also don't have to "start from zero" on every mission. The point is every mission gives you Ren and/or Exotics, which you use in the workshop to get upgraded gear. Eventually your gear gets good enough some missions you don't even need a base, you just need to go where the map tells you to and kill something or pick something up, then go back. And the ones where you DO need bases? Building what you need takes no time at all because you're able to farm so much more efficiently. Here's the other stuff he doesn't mention for those who might actually be questioning whether or not it's worth the money to buy the game: They do WEEKLY updates, introducing everything from new tools, to missions, to mechanics. So far I've never seen them miss an update. The earth creatures are there because this isn't just an alien world, it's an alien world people tried to terraform and it went badly. Missions are now available in open world (this might only be for the new expac's map, they are actively working to do the same for the other open world maps). Exotics are going to be available to farm in open world in the next BIG free update. You don't need to have the expac to play on the map if someone you know has it and is hosting it, from what I saw on the Discord. The staff are some of the most actively involved and friendly types I've ever seen on any game, indie or AAA. The timer is no longer based on real-world time passage, it's based on time spent in-game. You can play on dedicated servers now. If you don't have the money to spend on games, then don't get it. If you do, it's well worth the investment, though you can honestly just buy the base, see if you like it, and piece meal purchase the parts of the DLCs and expacs that you want.

Hey, Z1 I agree with your thoughts and the details you mentioned in the video for the Icarus mission mode the game would have been okay if the devs had made the mission to give a stat/character buff or item enhancements passively in the starting missions in a progressive manner(you completed this mission here you go with a item and reward to help you with the tasks in next mission [In a way prestige to the next mission but with the incentive to complete previous missions and make the next subsequent missions a little less grinding intensive] As you do a new mission from scratch the mission completion is a bit more reward-full instead of starting from scratch rinse and repeat). Secondly the game DLC pricing. On Steam it is sometimes possible to Buy the DLC for the discounted bundle price. The main game Icarus =30$. The Icarus new Frontier DLC=30$ (regular pricing). The Icarus main game + Icarus new frontier DLC bundle=44/45$. What I am saying is if you/anybody already owns the base Icarus game for 30$ in general bought after the new release offer ended then you can still go for the game bundle option{Note:-this only works when you buy the game DLC for yourself on the steam account you already own the game in; if you go for buying the bundle for friends or family then you will have to pay the full bundle price of =44$ which is still better then spending a total of =60$ to buy the base game and DLC separately}. and buy the New Frontier DLC at the bundle discounted price of 15/20$ total In the purchasing final product receipt you can see the base game being cut off from your order and you only paying for the DLC at the bundle discounted price. So people who already own the game give this method a try and buy the new DLC for 15/20$. Instead of buying the DLC alone separately and spending =30$ on it.

Hi Z1! I was one of the early buyers of this game and I did buy the supporter pack that said I do disagree with your conclution when it comes to the stuff they charge you for for one simple reason, they did say that from the start that it was and is ment to be payable DLC at a point, it was given to us that adopt the game early and touse who stuck with it despite the buggs that most has been fixed. It was announsed for backers to obtain two outposts we got three two upcomming DLC's we are given three ( Styx, New Frontiers, and the last I dont remember the name of) but styx was supposed to be an payeble DLC and the extra outposts was allways announsed as payeble content. The price I cant say anything about but late adopters of the game can still JOIN New Frontiers they just cant host it, and if you think about all the content and missions they added every week (89 in total) for free that does not come with extra cost for new addopters of the game and they can enjoy I really dont see why you cant support it, how ever that dessision is totally up to you and I really hope you will support it in the end.

Hello, first of: i love your Content, please keep going! Now to my first youtube commend ever: i think the Situations are different between No Man Sky and icarus: no man sky promised the world and delivered almost nothing. Icarus prommised a purly mission based survival on an alien planet. and while the alien wasn't visable at first, it would have made it into the game in the 89 updates after. But! they couldn't because we! the players wanted the game model to be 100% diffrend: we wanted permanet bases and open world. so instead of developing what they planed they did the unthinkable: they listend to us! And redeveloped their game to our tastes. changed the game so it runs without their servers (which would have helped keep the studio alive) and changed their game loop entirely. Now that we have the game we wanted, they can push for their alien idears. (and yes the cute little alien is in game now^^). I hope you might realise that this is its very own thing and hopefully give it a go at some point. Hope everyone has an amazing day^^

Coming from "the other side of the isle": After watching this video, a couple of things: You have some valid points; not everything from the original trailer is in the base game. I'd like to get vehicles so traveling would become a tad easier. However, you're also making assumptions (for example when you were talking about how the missions would become harder so it'd be hard to finish the later missions within the allotted time). Also, only able to play certain days; that's beta-weekend time! Ever since launch you were able to play whenever you wanted (24/7) Looks like that part of your opinion is based on incorrect data. Yes, for each mission you have to start all over again (building-wise; your character persists with all his skills and talents). To be honest, for me it's become an integral part of doing Icarus missions: You drop in and first start building a base (our team (of two people) have it down to where we can start making T3 items within 1,5h and T4 items within 2h of gameplay). After building the base, there's plenty of time to do the mission. And if it's a really short mission, you don't even need a base (not all missions require you to tech up to T4 or even T3). Having said that, on New Frontiers they added the possibility to start a mission from within your Open World. I haven't tried it yet myself so I don't know what you can bring from your OW to the mission, but it'll for sure give you a running start. The same functionality is planned to become available for Styx and Olympus as well in the next big update (Hypatia) - not a DLC, but an update. Price-wise: In the second half of the video you're repeating over and over again that the price for Prometheus is 35 bucks; it's 30 bucks as you mentioned properly before. Not the biggest issue, but please try to keep your facts straight 🙂 Here's a question: You said you didn't have Styx (and in the Steam footage in this video it shows you haven't bought it), yet you have played OW on a Styx map? This doesn't really compute. I thought if you don't have Styx, you shouldn't be able to play a Styx Open World either? It looks like your biggest grief is the fact that neither Olympus nor Styx delivered all that was in the video. Some (most) of the stuff you expected is in this new DLC. So you feel like you have to play twice for what was promised. But look at it from this side: Is the base game worth its price? If so, look at what additional stuff you get from the DLC; is it worth its price? Don't look at the original launch video; look at the content and playability of both base game and the DLCs. Is each DLC worth its price? There are plenty of games which didn't deliver what they originally promised. Sorry bud, but it looks like your video is just a rant because things didn't go your way (and yes, I'm biased the other way round, being the Icarus fan that I am). You're stating incorrect facts (the prices for example), you're talking about things you don't know anything about (looking at a less than half completed mission tree) etc. Again, I admit you have valid points as well; some of the things in this DLC is stuff that was shown in the introduction video for Icarus (although, did they ever say that was an introduction video to Olympus? Or more like a video showing where they would want to go with the game?). Sure the DLC is 30 bucks (25 in the launch sale) for a base game price of 35 bucks, so a tad high; but is this because the DLC is too expensive, or is this because the base game is too cheap? Because tbh I've seen games in the same price range yet offering way less content (and zero replayability). Anyway, counter argument done. Let the commenting begin...

It's good that content creators finally speaks out about this BS. I bought EU4 back in the day and every time they added content it had a price tag and changed your game according to the new content even if you didn't buy it, so you were playing a game punishing you if the new content gave you buffs. So playing with the base game only was impossible because you could never do the achievements. I did pick up most dlcs for only 150 extra euros but almost paying 200 euros for a game is just madness. Yes you can get them for 70% or wait 10 years to get it all for 50 euros but if you bought a game then do you really want to sit on it for years just to be able to afford the required dlcs. My point is not that they shouldn't ask for money for a dlc, my point is that it really feels bad when they force you to buy it just because you want to play the game you thought you bought. Like ask 2000 for a game if you like but don't sell me something for 40 and then force me to pay more to play the game you promised me for 40. I would never pay 200 euros for a game but was forced to do it over 2 years time and then when I finally got em all It had added so much extra into the game that it became a job to play it so now its in my library only.

I really like their other game, Stationeers, and in the recent blogposts for it they've been bringing up how hard it is to fund a niche game like that and how people should buy the cosmetic DLCs to support it. Granted, they always advertised their DLCs in the blogposts but I'm pretty sure they never worded it like that. It was more like "support us by getting DLCs if you like what you see". Wouldn't be surprised if this update is another effort to keep their studio going. Maybe I'm wrong. Anyway, I agree about the price tag being too high. I'm not convinced the No Man's Sky scheme is viable for all dev teams though, especially less popular ones like Icarus. The whole false advertising aspect feels sketchy for sure however.

Z... I cannot tell you enough how much I enjoy this assessment of the game's content. Where I really enjoyed all the parts of the game myself, I had trouble convincing any "normal gamer" friend of mine that this was a good game. I actually decided to write it off when I saw the DLC was nearly the price of the game itself. I agree with you, and my friends, to not support this game. Although, I also wish the game success, because for somebody out there, this is for them.

I wouldn't mind buying it to support the devs but all I see is a new biome, new critters and more junk to craft. I think what the game needs is to make open world more meaningful and challenging with the medium and long term goals and to make missions more like 10-30min adventures.
@GenieonWork

Actually, that's exactly what you're getting with this DLC; you can start missions now (the actual prospects) from within your Open World. This will also come to Olympus and Styx shortly. Plus, you already had (and still have) the SIMPL3 missions, which are exactly that: a couple of minutes adventures.

I know I'm late, but the mission system (semi-roguelike gameplay loop) was loved by the majority of players. Sure, lots of players didn't love it, but the meta progression with the upgrades at the space station was a fantastic, fresh take on the survival genre.

@@JohnSmith-zs1bf Sure, but that doesnt change the fact that it's still a fresh and interesting new take on the genre. I sadly do agree with much of what you said - however Rockworks is a small developer, and you cant always compare prices for small developer games vs large ones. Yes, the DLC is somewhat expensive, but the amount of development that went in to make it, likely as as much as the main game itself. They are people with families who need to be fed etc too. Sure, if the DLC was free, maybe it would boost the main game profits. But I dunno. I have been playing since the early Beta Weekends of Icarus, and yes I was also rather disapointed as time went on, lots of repeats / restarts every mission etc, and the ongoing bugs. When it was Released, I didnt think it was ready, still. I have about 400 hours of gameplay now, and I still have frustrations with aspects of it. I have just brought the New Frontiers expansion, and I am going to give it a go, an support the company too. From what I can tell though, its as you said in your video. I just hope its interesting enough that I want to play. While your review is somewhat harsh, I also think you have said a lot of truth, and echo'ing a lot of what I have thought myself. But if you dont support smaller companies in their products, then they will never turn into companies to make the big titles in the future. You dont go from nothing to #1 title without investment or customers support. This company has released weekly updates for a long time, trying to improve the game - no one else does that, and I think we should support them on that if we find the game fun. Stating you wont support them, I think is sad, as its based solely on the fact they need to make money to produce the content, and you thinking it should be free - they would be out of business if they didnt charge for it.
@beepboopbeepboop190
@beepboopbeepboop190 Год назад
These aren't all or nothing. The problem isn't that they're charging for DLC. It's that they sold the game originally as something it wasn't and now want to charge a full-game price to make it what they originally sold it as. There's a lot of options between free and $30. If this had been $5 or $10 I think they would have gotten a different response. I understand they obviously need to make money to continue to exist but have some respect for the people who bought your game. This game does not justify a $65 price point.

I got Icarus on day 1 of early access. The missions got repeatative and most yhe features you have now werent there. It still a great survival game. Paid $20 then for it. Stopped playing after awhile until a week ago when i seen they have a new map DLC. Its so much better than it used to be. They have it fiscounted as a bundle for under $60 and even if you dont get the bundle, its still $60 for a game. That has been the standard for new AAA games for years and imo Icarus stands on the level with any AAA survival game. And dont hate on an indie using assets they bought on the marketplace. They dont use a ton of them and by buying them they essentially paid a marketplace creator to make assets for them. Its not a bad thing. Loads of great artists and coders make a living selling assets on UE marketplace and youll be hard pressed to find any game, AAA or not, that doesnt utilize some kind of asset from the marketplace. So why tall bad about a game with marketplace assets when all your doing is hurting good artists...

Really? According to your recording you played Icarus for 29 hours, which is not much considering it's a crafting game with a lot of missions. Let's assume you bought this games at full price of $29, than you payed $1 per hour. To compare this to another fun activity, the average movie ticket in the US is $10. So $5 per hour. For me video gaming is not a source of income, just a hobby and I played Icarus very casually with brakes in between where I did not touch the game for a couple of month but always coming back and enjoying it. I played it more than 180 hours and had a lot of fun. I had way more fun with Icarus than with other anticipated AAA games I bought at full price to avoid spoilers. So even though the games was not finished when it released, it still had weekly updates and it was a nice surprise after a little hiatus to start up the game and see new maps, missions, perks, tools and so on. And lets be real here, a lot of people buy this game not on steam but at some other retailer for a fracture of the price. I will buy the DLC.

I'm pleasantly surprised by Your opinion on that and Your principles. DLCs that are more expensive than the main game is insane. Especially if it's like in this case. I haven't picked up Icarus because of these very reasons, that You're just running around on basically Earth, You drop in with a pod in space gear, but have to craft a wooden bow to kill deer, kinda whack, and there's tons of survival games like that, and the atmosphere makes more sense, and then with the limited time to do stuff and having to restart over and over and over again. I'm absolutely with You on that, if it was a 10er, maybe, but 25 on sale with a discounted price already?! No way! And then they still have Stationeers in EA, which I wish would do more on, but yeah... Pretty disappointing all in all.

You forgot to go back and look that the Styx map is a paid DLC now. It was free for the first year it was out but new players have to buy the game and 2 DLCs to enjoy most of the game. People who bought the supporter pack don’t have full access to the game anymore (might be a bug or glitch). The outposts have been locked out and put behind the pay wall (for people who didn’t buy the special edition I agree with paying a little extra but supporters were promised that). I personally bought this DLC and have enjoyed playing the new content and look forward to playing more. I do agree they could have done better with this.

I really dislike this dev, they are so freaking crooked. This dev did a bait, and switch when they finally released the game, and is the pure definition of false advertising in the trailers, and images which is something I rarely forgive a dev for. The full cost including taxes here in Nova Scotia Canada will be (it's on sale at the moment for $33.14). Price: $33.14 (on sale) HST + Federal (15%): $4.97 Final Price: $38.11 Tell me how this is above board, and being honest with their customers? It isn't, and it CAN'T be defended. there making missions in the open world like you said they should get rid of missions and add it to open world well the patches notes that came out for new expansion explain this not be sound rude but maybe read them before ripping the game apart because alot of this isnt true like the full restart not a thing anymore timer for missions not a thing anymore xp debt not a thing anymore start with nothing well there whole workshop or items to buy for in game currency to start with tools gear all that so no of that is a thing anymore your talking about the game like it just came out an ignoring past 89 weekly updates an changes which were all free content an massive fixes and changes which should be free but entire game with dlc is still basic full price game teah there not AAA studio so maybe theres argument there sure and i agree with everything you said about there stuff in trailer just being different game basically like the animals and stuff but i see alot ppl saying this feature should have been in the game well then they add it and ppl still mad so either you want to be mad its not in game or be mad it is added later an costs money but alot games that are being made or dlcs will say we are going to add x y z and then you may get x and z an not y i agree they shouldnt put stuff in trailers thats not in game 100% but also see ppl getting mad about stuff thats in the game an they wanted so is it really just because you have to pay for it through dlc later an not when you bought the base game? like the vehicle in trailer i see that complaint all the time but i bet the moment they add it if its not 100% free same ppl that wanted it will cry i mean no ones forcing anyone to buy the dlc but i feel your not really giving fair review on this i see game after game charge for base game 60$ then season pass 60$ with content not even made for the season pass just a promise youll get it so your up to 120$ then year 1 pass because season pass doesnt cover everything anymore lol i know its dumb so another 60$ then year 2 pass 60$ we're up to 240$ for 1 game and if you wanna buy it for friend 500$ to play that game with 1 friend an buy them all the content i just dont see how 44$ for icarus and expansion is outrageous there a small team and if you wanted to support them i think thats fair price for the replay value and the game itself i have got close to 200 hours an hardly touched the missions thats mostly open world just sandboxing messing around building grinding farming i have 20% of that time into hogwarts legacy before beating it an getting super bored an left with nothing but bug fixes since it came out. icarus weekly updates 89 weeks straight some of which added loads new items features bug fixes optimization and they listened to player base when they wanted open world and garden plots and bunch other stuff they didnt have to add but they did for the players for free but now they are bad guys for asking for 44$ for there game it just doesnt make sense knowing what we know to be mad at them its there game if they want to increase price after a year they have the right to do so and it doesnt make them evil there not making anyone buy it. also if 1 player buys this and his friend says naw i cant afford it or naw i dont think its worth it you can share it so group of friends only needs 1 person to purchase for everyone to experience an benefit from the new dlc/expansion i dont know another game that allows that i have to buy new content for my friends all the time especially when i buy the game for them they wont buy the dlc later they even say i didnt even want to buy game you bought the game for me so if you want me to play the new content you can buy it an thats how every other game ive played has been you dont get to share dlc with friends everyone has to buy that sh*t lol my advice is at very least read the patch notes for the topic or game or expansion your sh*ting on before you claim all this stuff that isnt even in the game anymore an has been changed or removed because there active an weekly updates it changes week by week for last 89 weeks there has been new stuff added and other stuff removed by request of the playerbase that alone shocks me that ppl dont even recognize how little that happens from game devs an take it for granite or just dont know because they dont read patch notes its not hard it doesnt take more then 5 minutes maybe less to fire this video out without even trying to educate yourself on the game is just lazy man it would have taken 5 minutes an the first 10 minutes of your video would be mutt this applys to ppl leaving reviews comments making videos they just complain cry hate bash but cant take 5 minutes to read

I enjoy the update, and don't see the $25 price tag to be a problem. After all, they came up with, basically, a whole other biome with the creatures and effects, along with all of the extra gear. The only problem I DO have a problem with is the fact that I am playing on an NVidia 3080Ti and I STILL get lags spikes and stuttering when running, and my FPS drops to 20. That's unacceptable. Even with my graphics turned down to "Medium" , I am still getting lag spikes, and my system should be able to handle anything on the market to date.

As someone who's played the game for 100-200 hours, I don't really agree with your take on the DLC entirely. You haven't played the DLC, but are making a video about how it's not worth it? They added an entire new map, with new missions, gear, items, building materials and it shouldn't be free, because it's not just some small update. However, I will agree that $25 (on sale even) for the DLC is too much for a game that hardly has any players to begin with. It's not a cash grab, it's a chance to revitalize the game, and they shot way too high with their pricing to do that. The game itself though is in a really good state, with SO much content and stuff to do.

Yea the pricing is WAY OFF compared to the cost of the game, we aren't getting an entirely new game with new game mechanics, it's the exact same game with some new assets and a new environment, that does NOT make up for the cost, AT ALL. Some people in these comments are delusional to think that it's normal to price a DLC at 90% of the cost of the game, and these are the same people that are broke and not even buying this DLC for SURE! What they should do is price it at what is fair for a new map and new assets, something like $10 MAX, not a dime more. They gave us Styx with new assets and an entirely new map, and didn't charge $30 then, so what gives? My guess, they need money, the well is drying up, and this is the only way they've thought of to obtain it. They could easily do new space suits and graphics for the suits in a cosmetic store, but we'll see, when only 5% of the user base purchases this DLC, we'll see if they change the price, if they don't and make an excuse, they're for sure going broke, if they do, then that'll show they actually care about their player bases' opinions.
