This Vermont Stream is FULL of Gold & Gemstones!! 

Slept way late this morning. Awoke to my wife chasing the Granddaughter around in the house! Pops here poured his coffee and headed out to the backyard Granddaughter in tow. All of us, Granddaughter, dogs and myself sat down on the back porch and watched GMMD. What a great morning this has been!! Congrats on a pocket full of rocks!! Maybe Brad should plan a trip to Arkansas with family and go dig for diamonds! With Brad's luck? He'll find the biggest diamond to date!! Thank you Sir for taking us with you!!!

I always enjoy seeing something Shiney in the pan 😁 early in the morning 👍🌄 🤔 perhaps a sniffer bottle would be in order 🤔😂😂 I guess I will see you next Friday. May your pan's be heavy and your detector noisy!! 👍👍

I'm in northern Vt. I have a couple of good size stones with what i now know from you are Garnets. There is a brook that runs thru our land and Gold has also been found.

What a fun, wet day you two must have had. It's nice to just get out into Mother Nature's garden once in a while and play in the water. When I was younger by 60 years my brother and sisters and I used to go play in Big Goose Creek. We would build rock pools and catch guppies. We actually caught a big and I mean BIG brown trout like that once. Took it home and ate it for dinner. Our parents were very surprised. I learned to swim in that river - I fell into a big deep pool just off an old dam wall and it was learn or drown - nobody else knew how to swim either. That was a bit scary at first. When I became a mama I made damn sure my boys too swimming lessons when they were little for that reason. They hated it but I wouldn't let them quit. Now they swim like big fish. Anyway, it was good to listen to your creek and watch you having fun in the water.

Here in GA where I live, I pick up rocks in my yard and what I assume are garnets just pop out of these old crumbly rocks, I take my walks and run up on them on the road banks. Over 40 years I have a sandwich bag full. They are bright red. Don't know if they have much value. I just keep them like i do arrow heads and crystals I have found. I've found some amazing things just by looking down. I have a meteorite to. Since most are iron don't over look all those readings for iron. I found mine digging holes for plants I was planting around the well house 40 years ago when we built our house. Thinking it might have been dug up when they did the well. They took all that dirt , piled it up and then spreaders it out in an area around the well house. It smelled awful for a while. I didn't start planting much except for some trees, because we moved in at fall time. I started planting shrubs and flowers the following spring. I know a place where as a child my brother an I would go wading in a creek. There was told speckled all in the sand, once something shiny caught my eye in the water, it was a huge nugget, I told him look, I found gold. He was a year older than me, so he thought he knew it all, he took it from me and said, it's fools gold you fool! Then threw it away. I believe to this day it was gold. He don't even remember that day, but I do.

Garnets are my birthstone also. I had some from the Thames made into a silver necklace and ring.

Ha, l tuned in to this today and to my surprise, you included my cousin Scott. His father is my first cousin, Scott's grandmother and my mother were sisters. We now live in Washington State and it's been decades since l was last in Vermont.

If you want to see Garnets on dry land, take the "Spruce Hill" hike in Savoy Mountain State Forest, off the Mohawk Trail outside North Adams. The summit has amazing views, and the ledge is loaded with garnets!

One of our rivers in Montana has so many garnets that the black sand is really more like garnet sand.

I love that slide guitar and that drum fits perfectly....

I don't pay much attention to those people that say; The hole is got to be toward you. I guess if you had so many ounces in your pan that it would cover the whole, i might worry. Really if i had that many ounces i'd get another container. Those "highly touted" pans are for beginners. I know some extremely expert panners that when they are using them pans at the very end will turn the pan around. It takes more force to try to wash the end of your material over all them riffles than it does to not use them. Think about it for a second. You get allthe gold and black sands, plus the blond sands, all heavy into the corner of your pan and now you have to wash it up and over all them riffles using a greater force then you started with. Say, 20 GPM to 200 GPM. Hence fine gold is lost. That's the idea of the pan your using. I prefer my old steel pan. Great video! Fine panning and a great choice of pan. Next time use a bottle with a screw top. Now go turn your pockets inside out and rinse them out in your pan:) May all your days be golden.

Brad, I work directly with the folks Scott mentioned, two of them any way! Jeff Slade & Wayne Thornton. Guess you could say I'm a student! Scott is correct on both Lode and Glacial deposits. However, Mount Ascutney has never blown. It has however gotten hot enough to send activity through it's breather pipes called Berecha tubes, spelling may be off there! Thanks to the glaciers and where they stalled, evidence can be seen of that in the area you were at here as well as the area I have worked. As for winter prospecting, don't blame ya for saying probably not!

Maybe someone has noted this before - but just for context. Back in the day I did a month's geologic fieldwork around Chester & Cavendish (Hawk's Mountain, I think - been a while) in a geologic structure called the Cavendish Dome. We were looking at the metamorphic grades of the schists there, which are aluminosilicate. You can determine the grade roughly by the combination of minerals you see - garnet, kyanite, staurolite. I believe garnet was the lowest grade. They were everywhere - usually smaller than what you had today. That rock up there is really old (Ordovician period, I think) and has been folded, heated, compressed, and every other thing you can do to a rock. Anyway - not sure I remembered everything right - it was 30 years ago and I did not pursue mineralogy or Geochemistry, but it was fun. My mother - not a geologist - insisted on reading my final report - which was very dense. She said, "I loved it! The only word I understood was 'Cleavage' but I still loved it."

You might also be on the lookout of diamonds too. Arkansas diamond mine has produced some woppers. Including yellow diamonds. Nice garnets. Use a flashlight next time and look at the garnets that way. Congrats on the gold!

done some panning up in washington state where i live. haven’t found much gold but been with folks who used a small dredge and were getting thumb nail sized nuggets up stream from me. we also have garnets, my birthstone too and they are soooo small. i gathered a small bottle of them. those ones are brilliant red, bummer they are almost microscopic🤣

come to Idaho and find STAR GARNETS...the only place in the USA where they are found..they come in 4 ray and 6 rays...RARE

Hi Brad, Got to love the cold water! The 2 pieces of rock with garnets in them are most likely schist. Since many of your garnets have rather sharp edges - the source of the garnets probably isn't to far away. The stream would be cutting through an intrusive dike of schist filled with garnets. And over the many years eroding the garnets out washing them down stream. Glad to see you using the classifying pans - makes panning so much easier! Great video! Take Care, Jim

We used to hike up Mt. Ascutney every summer, I was born and raised in Windsor, actually born at the base of Ascutney on the Windsor side of the mountain.

Take a vacation to north Georgia sometime and pan for gold and gemstones. People are still finding a lot of color in their pans.

I live about 7 miles from Barton's mine here in the Adirondacks, it's the largest garnet mine in the world

My father in law used to live on a street called Garnet Street. I asked him why it was named that and he later showed me huge pillars of garnet outcroppings along one side of the street. Unfortunately, it was of a quality that is generally used in making sandpaper. Also, I live in Indiana and often found diamonds (very tiny) when setting fence posts on farms that were on glacial soil. They were always said to be brought ddown from Canada. Who knows.

Great fun. I envy you the adventures that you have. My knowledge of garnets is that they were common in high school class rings fifty years ago and I remember garnet sandpaper at the hardware stores before the more modern grit materials seemed to pass them by. Might still be used but I have not been shopping for sandpaper in a long time either. Seems like my area is all galena as in lead mining. Just don't eat too much of the fish around here and none if you are a pregnant woman. Would much prefer gold over lead.

Hey Brad, Enjoy seeing gold in VT. On the video, the pan looks like it could use roughing up the bottom surface using gravel or steel wool. I find it helps to hold that micro gold better so you can snuffer it up before it slides in with the cons.

Exactly on the gold pan because they don’t come with holes.. lol
