@@kairon5249 it's not just the baby, there's also amniotic fluid, the placenta, and a decent amount of blood loss that occurs (plus a lot of women get constipated in pregnancy and end up pooping during delivery, so they deliver a human baby AND a food baby)
It is sad that people fall for this nonsense. I've lost 50 pounds but I did it over several years, not a week. It also require a lot of lifestyle changes which I gradually made so as not to feel deprived or stressed. It is a shame RU-vid doesn't put disclaimers of BS on these videos.
Congrats on your weight loss! I did too, lost around 50 (goal is 15 more), but had to change my lifestyle around food. Biggest thing was learning to cook better and finding a happy medium with food. I still count calories every so often to check where I'm at, but man, I found I grossly underestimated what I was eating due to mindless snacking. Congrats again!
The arrogance of most of these tech companies, it makes me insane! Also, what the hell is up with that that random picture of a mattress in the alleyway? That makes absolutely no sense to anyone, …and these software technology companies are like, “Yup, AI is perfectly fine”.
I feel like it's because people associate "diet" with eating special or specific foods specifically to encourage or promote for weight loss, not realizing diet means what you eat habitually.
Yes! A tiny action can start to give you more energy and agency over your life, which can lead to a tiny bit more motivation, which can lead to a tiny bit more action, in a positive spiral.
That's something you appreciate with depression, there are SO, so many negative and self sabotaging cycles/feedback loops to fall into. But it helps you identify and use the positive cycles if you can reflect on things well.
These videos destroyed me, physically and mentally. I started doing these kinds of "diets". I know, it was a stupid thing to do, but anyway, I started it and ended up with an eating disorder that almost sent me to the hospital. I couldn't even close the car door due to muscle weakness. I'm better now but still, with everything I eat, I will always check the calories of a product or food I have on my plate. I also have this belief that I need to lose weight the whole time and that doesn't help me much psychologically. Please, if anyone wants to lose weight (and not their health), then you can see a nutritionist to make you a diet plan and to give you proper advice on whatever question you have, or you can start a healthy program for yourself, but for this, you will need either a proper diet or a way of exercising that suits you best. Thank you Dr. Mike for opening our eyes!!🖤
@@betterversionn Don't be a smart*ss. You don't have any idea what it's like to be anorexic. And NO internet can't be trustworthy. You need someone who knows how to start a proper diet for you. And if you really read my comment, then in the last sentences I wrote that you CAN start a proper diet for yourself, but either you will do exercise or you will have a diet plan that will be right.
1:27 "When I say I decided to get rid of my gut, perhaps I didn't right term" Indeed, since your guts are your intestines (if you get rid of those, that's called disembowelment, which kills you).
unforunately A LOT of young women do. i see so many tiktokers who promote quick fixes and spot reductions and there is one girl in particular who is notorious for it. she will start the video showing off her perfect abs and point to them with text saying how to get lower abs in two weeks and blah blah blah. unforuntaely, a lot of young girls love those videos and then comment askign questions and asking for videos of what she eats in a day and its just so toxic. it makes me so sad because i fell for these things when i was younger and it messed up my body image and has taken years to move past it.
I’d like to see him do a video on that V Shred guy. Because it seems like he has the answers to everything regarding weight loss, and they are all the opposite of what we know.
Thank you Dr. Mike for debunking these weight loss theories. They can be so harmful to people. Back in high school, during the mid 2000's, one of my best friends was anorexic and was always coming to school with articles from magazines that were filled with promises to lose fat quick. I watched one of my best friends go from a beautiful, outgoing girl to a shell of herself and it killed me that the only thing I could do was give her moral support. Especially when I found out that another one of our 'friends' was calling her fat and ugly when no one else was around. And despite everything she was going through, she was the first one to support when I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and even came to visit me in hospital. If only there were videos like this back then, maybe she would have been more open to seeing that these 'articles' weren't what they seemed to be.
I think it’s really important when talking about “the pooch” that it’s often regarding women who have had children. Women have organs that men don’t have and we get our skin stretched out when carrying children, it’s not always realistic to “lose the pooch” because the pooch is simply their body changing due to carrying children.
That "pooch" could also be from a weakened core / diastasis recti as a result of pregnancy. And in that case, it does need to be solved because a problematic core can cause other issues.
@@hudamn2297 for some for sure! For many, it’s just skin that’s just been stretched out from growing a human. A flat stomach isn’t attainable for most women(not including teens in this). It just wasn’t even touched on at all that it’s not always something that can be changed so that was the main reason for my comment. I get that for some people it can be fixed, which is what he said, I’m speaking about the opposite, but I appreciate some other scenarios where it can be changed☺️
I'm so glad he discussed this. It's always so difficult to explain this to people that it's all about caloric intake and that there is no quick fix diet or that you can't solely rely on exercise to loose weight. I always tell people you loose weight in the kitchen, the exercise is for health, physical and mental.
As someone with serious body dysmorphia, whose parents had to get RU-vid Premium for me because constant body-shaming ads were making me spiral really deeply to the point that there are lasting effects months later, THANK YOU DR. MIKE. I think I'm gonna cry, it's such a relief to see someone debunk this.
The most concerning in the video for me is getting your self worth from the attention of men, and the assumption that you need to be skinny to get it. Why even give someone else so much power over how you see yourself? Why??
it is not a bad thing to want to attract the opposite sex. Yes, relying on it is not a good thing, but to lose weight to look better to get compliments is not a bad thing
This video is so uncanny because the story is not relatable or personable and the narrator has to be AI. They didn't even stick with ONE stock woman to be a character. The entire video feels AI generated. Makes my skin crawl!
@@gafhs1235 but even that is not quite true. We all do stuff for other from time to time, because it feels nice to have (positive) attention. What truly matters is to have a healthy relationship with that concept and to not do something that would be harmful one way or another just for someone else. Losing weight because you want to be more attractive to certain people is a perfectly good and valid reason. What matters is to lose said weight properly.
"don't wait for the motivation start with the action" thanks doc I'm gonna follow your advice and finally complete my essay. I've been procrastinating for so long.
i remember watching this exact video when i was younger. i was anorexic then and hearing that cutting out carbs would increase weight loss by a lot and hearing that it would actually make me feel more full of energy made me stop eating carbs. i lost a lot of weight and i had to be put in hospital.
In fairness you can't blame them for that. what you say you learned from the video isn't even false. in fact, it's extremely well documented and really it's the most basic way to lose weight. your problem is that you had an eating disorder.
as someone who has struggled with disordered eating/exercise addiction because of videos like that, i really appreciate that not only is doctor mike saying its wrong, but he is also giving the correct information 😌 thank you doctor mike!!! 🩷
The thing about these are for me are that this makes my eating disorder flair up again. I see these “lose weight quick videos” and take it to the extreme of no food and over-exercise because “they said it worked for them”. @DoctorMike, I would love a video specifically about eating disorders and different things to healthily maintain weight.
Hey Dr. Mike, just wanted to say thanks for what you do. I am in my early 20s and never really took lifestyle and diet changes into consideration until now. Really appreciate the message you send in your videos/podcasts.
Great to take care of your body when your in your 20s, in my 30s I find it's near impossible to lose weight, without working your butt off lol. Your metabolism slows down as you get older, so it's even worse in your 40s. Walking is the best exercise, best of luck!
@@YourHeartsDesires Yeah, I used to run and hike a lot. I've always had bad knees and recently injured it to the point I can't walk up stairs without pain 🙃 (Doc appt soon). Now I walk since it is so low impact.
Hey Dr. Mike, just wanted to say thanks for what you do. I am in my earlly 20s and never really took lifestyle and diet changes into consideration until now. Really appreciate the message you send in your videos/podcasts.
"i lost belly fat without dieting by farting, dropping water weight, and changing my diet!" brilliant, that'll take off the extra 100 pounds i'm carrying 🙄
i appreciate how the doctor in the video emphasized the need for sustainable lifestyle changes. dealing with pcos-related infertility, i understand the struggle of finding effective solutions. at 32, i faced similar obstacles until i turned to Aspect Health, whose support significantly improved my chances of conceiving. their approach effectively addressed my insulin resistance, offering real hope on my journey toward motherhood.
Being a dietetics student, I confess I made my own diet plan, activities to do everyday. It took a year for me to reduce around 7kgs(i guess 14 to 15 pounds)
@@omegarugal9283 the more extra you have, the easier it is, it's a logarithmic progression: the lower your weight, the more difficult it is to lose weight, up to a point where you just unalive yourself
I saw one RU-vidr tell you how you could lose 10kg in one day and she went step by step and then showed her photoshopping the photo to make her look 10kg lighter 😂 she did it as a joke and it was funny
I used to struggle a lot with my weight at my heaviest I was over 280 lbs and was probably like 70% body fat since I spent most my time just sitting 16+ hours a day. Last year at 32 I did what I needed to do in order to actually lose weight and become healthier, a year later I'm down to 197 lbs and probably somewhere around 15-20% body fat now and never felt better.
Thats awesome. I'm glad that you stuck with it for over a year and that you're a lot happier in your skin now. I'm also on my own weight loss/health journey, so hopefully i'll have some good results in a year!
@@ashm003 Avoid the scale early on, fasting is fantastic for getting any snacking habits under control, limit your caloric intake so that you're at a caloric deficit every day which for most people is about 1,500 calories daily, depending on your starting weight it will be better for your joints to just go for walks rather than trying to do exercises.
@@tukuiPat thank you for the helpful tips! I appreciate it. You're right about walking. I have a mostly sedentary lifestyle so exercise routines such as those on youtube can be kind of painful afterwards as im not used to it 😅. Do you have any advice on how to stay consistent and stick to your goals? I used to wait until i felt motivated to exercise but i know now that motivation isnt reliable. That being said, however, it's difficult to continue with a certain regime for a long period of time, so i was wondering how you stuck with it for a year.
@@ashm003 do something that is easy to stick to. you have a very wrong idea that you need to do some routines. just go walk, every day, and drink more water, especially before eating. instead of a snack, drink water.
As someone who deals with belly fat and constantly changes the mindset between “this isn’t healthy, work out” and “it won’t hurt you, you’re enough, just ignore it”, i wish it was that easy. I eat pretty healthy, and I exercise some time a week. I might just eat too much fast food and don’t exercise. Just, I wish it was easier.
4:57 THANK YOU!!! Honestly, one of the things that drives me nuts about both TikTok and RU-vid is patronising edits. That and pointless stuff like those text to speech intros some TikTokers use (I kinda want to say its designed to make things easier for the illiterate viewers but when the text is saying nothing that adds anything to the video it just feels even more pointless).
I (male) did lose 30kg in a few months when I was in my early 30s, by eating well and exercising. My real victory was NOT putting all the weight back on once I put the chocolate and cheese and biscuits back into my diet. In fact, I kept on losing more weight, which was scary. Doing fine now, fortunately.
hey doctor mike! can you do a full video surrounding your best tips to aid bloating and ibs symptoms at home/over the counter? thanks :) love your videos btw
Great job for calling this out. What planet is this individual living on? I weighed 127 kg in 2012, 61.7 yesterday morning, and I am still not done (almost though). Losing weight takes major effort and, depending on how much there is to lose, takes a long time. I wish it were different, but it isn't. Reality is what the facts are, not what we wish it to be. Weight loss *is* possible for everyone, but we have to be willing to pay the price and listening to nonsense like this is going to discourage people, not encourage them. So, Doctor Mike, great job!
About the cat and cow excersise, it actually does do something for me. I discovered this by accident while doing yoga, I noticed that everytime I did cat and cows I passed gas. Sometimes I bloat a lot, extremely uncomfortable, literally feels like I'm a *peewoop* ballon about to explode. So one of those occasions I decided to try the cats and cows and was shocked (and very relieved) that I actually passed some gas and the discomfort immediately lessened. It did not make it go away completely but at the very least I stopped feeling a bad turn away from exploding. So, my fellow bloated friends, next time you feel like you will pop try some cats and cows, might help ease the discomfort a little bit.
Omg pomegranates, grapefruit, salt (which she just said she’s cutting down on) and honey (which isn’t really any better for you than sugar. Both are ok in moderation) in a blender with nothing else would be DISGUSTING. The pomegranate seeds and grapefruit pulp!? Not a drink, that’s a gross fibrous pudding.
very much depends on what you eat. there are people who don't get enough salt. basically if you're eating processed foods, you're getting enough salt. more than enough
I always like it when one of those "most popular youtube channels" never crossed into my bubble. Feels like i'm doing something right when the "most-popular" part of the algorithm flatout ignores me.
The video he's reacting to is why I've always struggled with my weight. There is just so much noise out there. I'll try something, it doesn't work, then I feel like a failure and it gets worse.
I'm currently feeling miserable and I can't see my doctor earlier than Thursday and your commentary put a smile on my face. Even though I was kind of hurting during the whole thing.
Thanks for content like yours. I spent most of my teens and 20s trying to do crazy moonshot ideas over short periods. While that can be fine it has to be with making small changes that you can keep at long term. I only really started making progress a few years ago when I finally got that through my head. It's hard boring work and nothing is ever going to make it not be hard work.
BrightSide is incredibly bad... They also upload so fast and so frequently that many of their videos contradict themselves... My guess is that they just have a team of graphic artists combined with fair use clips and LOTS of AI pumping those videos out to get monetised.
This is why there needs to be more new laws regarding stuff online. They're getting rich from misinformation. How is that not illegal yet. If you buy something that isn't as described there are laws to protect us. Same should go for this BS.
I've heard them referred to as "content farms" And what you describe is exactly what they are. The minute I hear a robot voice, I click off and block the channel.
They are a Russian content farm. Pretty fascinating phenomenon, if you look into. They hire people around the world to pump out the most random things, for multiple channels. It's a big business, many of these content farms are owned by the same handful of companies from Russia and Cambodia.
I had a personal trainer and worked for weeks and didn’t lose a thing bc of diet . You can workout but if you’re not balancing a healthy meal, it’s a lot harder
Fast and rapid weight loss is not safe weight loss. Slow and steady wins the race with weight loss. Keep up the good work with getting the right info out there about dieting.
What I learned about diets is "If something sounds too good to be true, it doesn't work!" I lost 88lbs within a year, starting as massively overweight just with a calorie deficit and starting to do simple exercises. I did some tricks to fight the hunger and cravings in the first weeks (what worked for me was lemon water, eating nuts and getting lots of protein). After I started to go to the gym for the first time in over 13 years, I gained 26 lbs back, but I'm now back on track with a calorie deficit and working out. Losing weight requires lots of hard work and dedication, but most importantly: patience. You have to learn to accept the fact that you won't lose all weight within a month. It's better to find a lifestyle that suits your needs, your daily schedule and overall health.
4:31 As someone with ulcerative colitis, I can say that there is an unreasonable number of people who think 'a sprinkle of tumeric powder' is all you need lol
Seeing a dietician during my worst point with my eating disorder helped me find peace in so many areas. I still struggle, but I feel SO much better. Can you please bring in a dietician to destroy dieting culture?
worst part is people who are insecure will believe their words and it can lead to so many problems including EDs. I'm happy Dr. Mike talks about this, honestly.
I love the fact that whilst watching this I noticed a video in the recommendations called " The only chocolate cake recipe you'll ever need ". Brilliant !
0:21 Actually it is possible, however, literally cutting the fat off is not a recommended procedure. Also, I believe Liposuction is that quick (never really looked that far into it though, because wow, does it seem dangerous)
Any channel, or anyone, rather, that says you can lose X amount of weight in a ludicrously short amount of time is giving out misinformation. I lost 60 lbs, but that took me five months, not a week or two... with dietary or lifestyle changes. Thanks Dr Mike for debunking this! 💪
Hey, if you have a limb removed or give birth to the child you're pregnant with you can lose significant amount of weight in a very short amount of time!
I feel bad for the people who feel insecure about their body so much so they starve themselves it’s a serious problem for many people and can very much affect your health mentality and physically your beautiful the way you are starving yourself is not the way
three months ago I started eating like a shark, only when im hungry. I cant go to the gym cuz i had two car crashes, only messed up my shoulder and other one my knees... but since then, i try walking at least 7k steps and I lost 10kg since November. hopefully this info helps u if u wanna lose weight. Peace and love from Croatia!
I have chrons. So are they trying to tell me that i can fix it with tumeric, rather than the vastly overpriced biological medication I'm currently on, the one developed in a lab, and tested to be safe? Jeeze, i could save so much money. Lol. Oh wait, i live in canada, and the company sends it to me for no cost at all.
Thank you for calling out these toxic "quick fix" videos. They set unrealistic expectations and harm people’s relationships with food and their bodies. It's important to focus on health and well-being rather than chasing impossible standards. Also, the "no carbs" trend is super dangerous, especially for athletes-carbs are essential fuel. Diet culture unfairly demonizes all carbs, even though fiber and sugars are carbs too.
These are my fave videos Dr Mike. The debunking hack ones. Still trying to get thru the Gundry one. I get so fed up w him I need to take breaks to recover. Thanks for what you do to support medical science 🙏🏼
