Sorry for your loss. My mama passed in January. She just turned 85. I learned alot from my parents and grandparents. Alot I have forgotten. So glad you are making these videos showing the old ways. As for the cows, I'd keep them as long as I could. Try to establish grass on one part.keep them off. It won't grow good without sunlight. Just my thoughts

So sorry about your grandpa! You will have your good memories! I still miss my grandpa! Here in Kansas our grass is bad too. No one I know has cut hay. Years ago I started to keep an extra 100 bales every year. I could not get my hay this year. But I have enough for winter. But one of our pastures is really bad so we are going to take our hay money and fence in another pasture. I only have goats so they will eat weeds too! I suggest you all pray on it and the answer will come. Prayers up for you and your family!

Jared, I'm so sorry about Grandpa. He was a fine man to help raise you to the man you are. I' d keep my cows if I was you. Might be harder to replace in a couple years. But keep your herd to a minimum until you get more grass in for them.

Both of my grandfathers were huge influences on me. Although, I lost them both many years ago, I think about them daily. Their wisdom and stories live on through me and into my 3 boys. My condolences for your loss.

Mine passed very close to yours and can say your fortunate to have such a beautiful memory to share. I have regrets. However push back any tree line you can and stay away from leveling as my experience is it’s always more work than I remembered. Rocks, roots and smoothing. Catch a dozer cleaning a access road close and you may save a few bucks. I got extremely lucky and had 4+ cleared by probably the the best old man I won’t name. Surgically uncovered our homestead! Good luck. Keep them fed👍💪❤️

Sorry for your loss, seems like you have memories that most don't have, what a Blessing to have had him for these years and to call him friend and grandpa too. We live in Southern Michigan, have 4 Dexter's, have 3 divided pastures and one hay paddock. We have 17 acres for hay besides, cut first cutting only got 15 small round bales, already on 3 bales had to feed as we have had very little rain to put on pasture. Went to auction to buy some hardly was any there and what was there we couldn't afford, so we are in same predicament.

Finn looks like your Grandpa. Condolences for your loss. It is never easy losing a loved one but you can keep them alive in your heart & the things they taught you. He was a handsome man. I'd think about putting one of the cows in the freezer to lessen their impact on the grass. Maybe overseed the pasture they were on so it can recover. Blessings to you and your family Jared.

Great video… I live in AZ, Daddy was born and raised in southern Virginia. Good to see people still living country life. It’s crazy here in Arizona. People are moving out of cities trying to get away from all these people properties are expensive what you have millions of dollars here.

There is a song that I listen to that gives me some comfort. The Far Side Banks of Jordan. I believe that will happen one day. She will be waiting on me so she can show me around heaven. When you lose someone you love so much it leaves a hole in your heart then you know that you loved them right. I just turned 64 and lose people i know way younger than me. I just have to remember, their journey and work is over, and they're rejoicing in heaven . Grief is normal, no Grief isnt

Are you gonna harvest the steer? What's the cow market like in your area? What's the actual loss to let them go now? Probably more, but those are just what I can think of.😊

I am sorry about your grandfather. If he was saved, he is just fine and you will see him again. Get some different cows. Some do brouse as well as graze. It will help your soil and still you will have cattle.
