The VC strike in Shellshock 2, an old game which needs a modern, better remake. It hits the right vibes with the horror aspects but falls apart in other aspects (apparently).
Even at the time it was very clunky and outdated. The outdated graphics didn't really bother me, but the gameplay was SO clunky! The atmosphere and the story are the only good things about this game. And in my opinion it would do better as a survival horror rather than a fast zombie shooter.
@@Fuzz82 Kind of like the Spec Ops The line, while the game has very simplistic mechanics, and that Gears of War/ Mass Effect type of game style that was very used at the time, hell, the story is what takes the cake... i kind of miss games like these.
I used to play this game a long time ago, never thought it would get the recognition it deserves. Really amazing game with an aesthetic and vibe that is truly unique.
The 2000-2010 era videogames don’t have graphics as nice as games that come out today but they nailed the atmosphere and art direction. I wish developers nowadays focused more on atmosphere instead of focusing only on texture quality and lootboxes
But back in the day when these games came out, they would've looked "about as good as was reasonably possible, given the technology", just like todays games do. Naturally, games from a generation or 2 ago are always going to look "a generation or 2 worse than today, graphically", because the technology available today didn't exist 10-15 years earlier. In other words, the graphics of these old games still looked great back then, because there was nothing better to compare it to. Look at PS1 games. Many people will say they look terrible now. But most of us were absolutely amazed by those graphics back then.
@Solid Snake yeah, for consoles the best graphics you could get around that time was killzone 2, it still blows my mind how good that game looked back then
This game used to scare me so much when i was a kid lol. Especially that level where your boat crashes and youre walking through pitch black jungle towards the temple filled with zombies. Despite its clunky gameplay this game sure nailed the atmosphere and it had an unique premise too. Zombies and vietcong is a cool idea
talked to a vietnam vet at the army surplus store a lil while back and we talked about coronavirus and he said “ahh i ain’t scared of coronavirus, the US military done stuck me with every needle they could find, injected me with all kinds of shit”
I was in for 4 and a half years i joined the army in 2017 and i was injected with so much shit and nearly every soldier in my platoon was sick as hell woth bronchitis and pneumonia.Welcome to hell i thought
@@hellzium2081 You were injected woth pretty much every vaccine available to try prevent any outspreads of viruses, but back in VC a lot of the injections were drugs being tested on soldiers to find super soldier serums. SSDD
Never heard of this game before but the beginning commentary had almost an Apocalypse Now feel to it if anyone here has ever seen that... the voice acting and some of the sounds in this game is actually pretty decent.
@@Hevvvyyy Glad you enjoyed it, it's a classic. Have no idea when I first saw it, I'm sure over a decade ago lol I ended up buyin the movie years later so I could watch it anytime and not have to pay to watch it again lol
It is real, maybe for my opinion based what I understand in game was the Us remain forces was force to withdrawal into their position maybe was outnumbered by enemies or fully retreated onto south
@Patrick Bateman Not exactly Zombies, infected people. Zombies are the living dead (like rotting corpses). None of the enemies you kill get revived. It's like the 28 Days Later movie, they get enraged and have bloodshot eyes.
@@Taco_Comrade Nowadays with how obscure the meaning of "zombies" are, being either infected individuals or those risen from the dead, id say they still fit the description.
@Patrick Bateman indeed Where is the gritty stuff, atmosphere, world building and brutality? Like in SWAT 4 with the Fairfax Residence or Children Of Taronne Tenement levels
I played both these games back in the day when they came out. The first one was great too. My dad served in Vietnam so as a kid I was obsessed with anything Vietnam war related. Both of these games were two of my favorites.
Thank you so much for playing this game never got a chance to play myself but I’ve known about it I’m happy somebody finally made a game about Vietnam war with zombies it just fits so well
@@maivuong495 ho Chi Minh City is what Saigon is named after the Vietnam war end in the US pulled out in 1973 I think and then they had to deal with the South Vietnamese government for two more years before it became Ho Chi Minh city
@@lorenzodelarosa5659 correct, we still call it Saigon city because it s more familiar, by the way your game is zombie apocalypse during Tet Offensive?
That was the first one, "Shellshock NAM 67," which was developed by Guerilla Games. This sequel was made by a completely different developer, Rebellion, who made the Sniper Elite series.
The thing that disturbed me is the sounds of the women crying in the background. That painful agonizing crying. It’s been 10’years since I played it, but I will always remember the crying.
I talked my parents into getting me this shit at 13 years old thinking it was going to be kinda like Medal of Honor vanguard with a lot of blood, safe to say it was very different.
My Granddad had this game and I remember staying over my grandparents one time and was upstairs going through his games. I decided to play it because sometime before I convinced my Dad to let me watch the film Sniper (the first one) with Tom Berenger. I remembered his character was in Vietnam so thought it would be just like that. 12 or 13 year old me was to say the least shocked at this game, scared the crap out of me. Roll on December 2007, when I got an xbox 360 along with halo 3, I chose the gamertag Beckett which has followed me since, along with memories of this horror game lol which I did go back and complete.
It's a game, it literally doesn't have to be accurate to history. Almost every Call of Duty game portrays each character to be some sort of one person army (like that's really Gunna happen, charging through a hostile country) and you're worried about an accurate history line ⚰️
@@sergiom9958 ohhh ok I get what you mean! My bad for being all salty about it lol I actually haven't played this one yet, so I didn't realize that's what you meant 😅
Everyone hated this game back in the day. I liked it. A Crossed-ish scenario taking place during the height of the Vietnam War It was unique and pretty much paid homage that Romero's original zombie film did take place during the time when the Vietnam War was happening. Some of the game play and levels did piss me off, but I did like what they did here. It would be awesome if we found out they totally did a twist by making a war game with the first one, but with the intention that an outbreak would happen in the second game. It's like making a Sims game with the intention of the sequel doing something batshit. I know that it wasn't their intention but I like to think it was.
This is kind of scary because of a new environment You're not lonely with horror anymore I don't understand why cod did not make this kind of campaign they had no idea
BO1 did vietnam pretty well though for a videogame. Getting tortured in a vietcong cave, sneaking through dark underground tunnels with a flashlight and enemies hiding in the dark, dealing with ambushes, etc.
I remember renting this game at Blockbuster when I was a kid, I was scared because of the zombies in the game but I really do like the concept having it take place in the Vietnam War. Even though this game has negative reception because of gameplay and not being like it's predecessor. I love that the developers came up with something so cool and interesting even when it did poor, the idea was there and I wish it could be explored more. I love this game for the nostalgia but I love it for it's creativity, I really do want another horror game like this.
@@jaegarviking3846 I played both and I still have ptsd. I think the 1st one gave me the worst of it though; it was more difficult than the black ops khe san mission on veteran all the way through
This game needs a part 2 but with different engine and Maybe some more features like crafting or meele system it could be then a survival horror. I played shell shock 2 and I completed it couple Times, its Just a game that you hate or love, i think the atmosphere is the Best in this game, sounds as well and brutality, the rest is average, but its still very nostalgic for me like the 1st part.
@@pz_faust6866 we are not chinese, we have different physical appearance, language, letters and culture. For east asia people like us, Viet, Chinese, Japanese and Korean are not the same. Western people cannot discriminate asia people 😂
the first Shellshock game was amazing. I remember playing it for hours and hours with my friend Billy. "You go home in body bag G.I". Certain games you remember your whole life. LOL.
When i was little my dad used to drive me to city so we can browse some stuff for home and entertainment. I remember back in the day there was this guy that always sold pirated games and movies for 2 euros back in the days. I remember i picked this game up, played it to the house level, i was so scared that i never finished the game. 8 years later i have been trying to find name of the game since. Thank you for making me remember my childhood memories.
I remember buying this game when I was a kid and didnt have internet so I played story games only. I would replay this game many times, I really liked the simple but brutal weapons.
DUDE THIS IS THE GAME IVE BEEN TRYING TO REMEMBER Holyfuck, ive been trying to remember this shit for years, i played it when i was super young and never remembered the name thank you so much for uploading this
I remember wanting to get this game but I was too young to get it, so I had to borrow it from a friend. I previously played the old shell shock games on the ps2. I know this game got a lot of hate because of how janky it was but I really liked it. It Had unique character. I feel like if this had come out way earlier, soon after the previous shellshock games it would have been a hit. At the time it was competing with many other much better polished titles. The little details in this game are what did it for me… the dismemberment was extremely detailed I remember zooming in on the heads half blown off and being able to see teeth, the skull and all the other parts. The darkness and gritty vibe for example as shown in the video the guy slits the throat of a fellow American just not to get caught. Also love when the zombie type people come later on in the game. Was a real shame this game didn’t get more love. RIP the Shellshock franchise.
Hahaha i remember i never brave enough to finish it on my PS3. I always brought some friend to play with only to ended up with heart attack 😂 i thought this game is the sequel to the PS2 version (Nam 67 i think), turns out it's a freakin psycho horror fps
This’s like a lot of the fare I’d enjoyed in the late 90’s-early aughts..and to Think this was likely produced by a small studio makes It all the more alluring!
This game definitely was something I always wanted,A 28 days zombie game that took place in Vietnam.Shame the game its self is really rough to place. But the concept itself was great.
This game would actually have aged really well with a few audio improvements and less clunky animations. Most of the VA is exceptional, and the detail is really good for 2009. But tbf, Resistance FOM came out three years prior and aged *far* better.
I played the other shellshock on the ps2 but always avoided this one because it truly scared me as a kid The other one was pretty much a more bright and not so scary version of this one in third person
Not scary? It definately was scary on its on right. The part where you get to the one big building, where there are heads of US soldiers on pikes, and written on wall is text "welcome to HELL" was pretty disturbing shit as a kid. Not to mention boobytraps are everywhere.
I played this game in middle school and actually I really enjoyed it because of its distinct atmosphere. The concept of fighting zombies during the Vietnam War is awesome. At times this game gave me the creeps. Fucking zombies chasing after me while I was low on ammo and so I would look for the nearest ladder to climb as the sound of their roaring would get closer.
the thing that older games have over modern games is the atmosphere modern day devs ignore lighting and atmosphere in favor of graphic quality and that only lead to soulless games that only look pretty on the outside but shallow on the inside
I remember this game it was bad even back when it came out, pretty clunky and cheesey. I do remember I liked the first one a lot more, it wasn’t as horror based but still creepy, it was also a third person shooter and I thought it was weird they changed perspectives.
Fun Fact The voice actor for the sergeant Griffin is Roger Clark, the voice actor for Arthur Morgan in Red Dead redemption 2 Shellshock 2 aint great tho
There's a scene where the game starts reciting the bible, talking about the horsemen of the apocalypse and it was one of the most unsettling scenes in the game for some reason
alot of games seem to share the same sound effects, so I bet there's some sort of sound effects package they all use. Such as the door closing and door squeek sound effect I hear in almost every game
Jesus, whoever voiced the brothers screams should get a raise . IF that’s not some of the most realist, believable screaming I’ve heard in a video game. That is some of the most horrific screams I’ve heard in my life
I really liked the premise of the game. You are not there because you're a spec ops killing machine. You're just a conscript, a guy that doesn't even want to be in Vietnam, that was sent at that particular location because patient zero happened to be his brother.
I remember playing this on 360 it's a legit psychological horror game the gameplay it serves just fine in 2009 this was a decent shooter the mechanics aren't bad. A lot of people criticize the respawning enemies and linear level design of this game but that's exactly how Cod campaigns were designed and pretty much still are. This was a game putting a psychological & light survival horror spin on that formula and I think it did a good job I enjoyed it.
I have a really wholesome memory with this game, im from UK and me and this random US gamer got talking, i asked if he knew any good games and he asked for my address.. he sent me this game through post. I played it and loved it, we never spoke again but this game always got stuck in my memory. Despite its bad reviews i really enjoyed it, its a hidden gem for sure. Actually come to think of it it might be in my top 5 games for xbox 360 but just the memory itself plays a part in that.
