It's so unfortunate that George had to go through that by himself. Thankfully, Charlotte was there.
I'd still like to know what happened to Reynolds.

Violet displayed all her dad's hats to try and get Agatha to admit she had a thing with her dad. I love how they reached an understanding without speaking a word at the end.

😭 where George says she is a rare jewel before the ball.... Older Queen Charlotte says the same about her face early in the series when the doctor showed up late at night to announce her granddaughter had died. 'my face is a rare jewel'....'you are a rare jewel' 😭

Okay, the childbirth sequence: First, fathers excluded from delivery rooms was commonplace into recent history. Like, the mid to late 1900s. Very common into the 1950s (when the pain relief options basically made women catatonic) and still frequent into the 60s (maybe 70s). Second, breech delivery - the doctors would have had learned methods for aiding in such cases in that time period because they didnt have surgical options. Third, the doc didn't intervene because such unterventions COULD risk the baby (the heir) even though the doc likely knew the mother was at risk.

Thanks for explaining this! It’s definitely made me look at this from a different standpoint! I think it must’ve been very difficult to make those decisions when they don’t have enough equipment to make sure everyone survives 😢 ~Keren

There was a scene written but never filmed, where Brimsley and Reynolds pass by each other in a corridor and have a brief interaction, which implies that although they still love and care for each other deeply, because of external factors (the stressors of their job, Charlotte and George now living separately, homophobia etc) they had to end their relationship and move on.

That makes me so sad 😢

Widows weren't seen in a bad light back then. The problem was that women couldn't own anything so if they had no male heir or male family member to take over, they usually lost their land and the husband's income. She could also remarry in order to keep everything but most men would want an heir and she didn't want more children or marriage. Widows were seen differently from spinsters though (spinsters were seen as basically undesirable). They had a certain amount of freedom as opposed to the ones not yet married. If a woman worked, she was no longer part of the upper class. That's why Penelope and even real women like Austen and the Bronte sisters had to write under pen names. On the other hand, Her having an affair with a married man...now *that* would ruin her name/reputation and she'd be blacklisted and could be stripped of her title. The scandal would've also ruined Violet's and her mother's reputation. That's why Lord Ledger said that she had an impeachable reputation and he hoped that his daughter's would be of the same caliber when he broke up with her. There was no divorce back then so they couldn't have a future.

Thank you so much for letting us know! Lord Ledger really cared about Violet to end things with Lady Danbury.
