I’m like scared to hear this already lol. I have bad migraines in between my eyes and about a year ago my eyes started moving not like….together and one would get lazy when I was tired so the dr diagnosed me with third cranial nerve palsy and sent me for mri with contrast because usually this is a sign of either a aneurysm, tumor or something pushing on that nerve and they found nothing. So I still don’t know what’s causing it. The eye stuff got better. I still feel my one eye occasionally get lazy when I’m especially tired, I also can’t have like light hit me fast in the am or it hurts really really bad but they move in sync now.
I know Scentbird is sponsoring you, but after about a year with them, I ordered Savauge from ScentDecant (scentbird doesn't have it) for my husband, and I ended up switching to them for myself...cheaper and more fragrances🤷♀️
I could rain on that parade.. Just.. Do yourself a favor and never look up things getting recalled.. But you might now and get sickened due to me planting that seed.. So what will it be? Remain in blissful ignorance.. Or give into temptation and find out how bad just about any/all foods can be?
Hi, fellow sufferer, me too. We are simultaneously Swooping in misery. Wishing you feel totally relaxed and comfortable, get a nice rest and feel great very soon. 💛
BRO who here remembers the show that ran on Animal Planet, “Monsters Inside Me”?! That show alone is what made realize that I was more of an inside girly! I was a kid watching that show and it TERRIFIED ME! No swimming in lakes for me, no trying to touch wildlife, no eating woodland foliage! I was too scared to even consider doing any of that
I'm a registered nurse. I worked for many years in a large public teaching hospital in Southern California. We used to treat many Mexican patients who grew their food with pig manure. It also causes brain worms. Always, always know where your food comes from.
Same, I've lived in Texas and other areas of the south where farming is common. As soon as Swoop started talking about her first symptoms my thoughts were immediately: Parasites! Ick. Know where the food comes from and wash wash wash your veggies.
As soon as Swoop started listing Lucy’s symptoms, I knew it was from not washing the veggies/her hands. As a former Girl Scout, that was drilled into us every time we camped or if food/foraging was mentioned. I hate that poor Lucy went through all that for what was most likely a one time mistake.
My friend who lives in MT became an infectious disease case study! She had a really tricky to diagnose case of rocky mountain spotted tick fever. Tons of doctors were stumped by her symptoms and she kept getting worse. She was graced with visits from experts from the CDC who had flown across the country to help out and record her case observations for better education. Once they figured out her illness, she responded really well to treatment. She's great now!
I'm glad she's okay! Gosh, I used to watch the show House on repeat the way other folks watch Friends and The Office, and it's definitely more comforting to know the CDC overall tries to help people vs hoping you end up with a rude genius doctor in the New England area by chance.
Wow. Shocking. The CDC actually did their job?? They didn't just ski for a couple weeks, tell her it was all in her head and go back to their office? I'm truly shocked and happy they took her seriously.
@@SilentThundersnowI feel this comment. For those who have never been dismissed by the medical community or who haven’t dealt with a disease that the cdc has minimized for years despite having research proving it’s devastating effects - well, they may not understand the angst and frustration. It took 30 years and three kids who were sick their entire childhoods, before a doctor listened to me and tested me for Lyme and the co-infections that come with it. I passed the spirochetes and bacteria on to my kids when I was pregnant with them.
My brother had a brain tumor the size of a man's fist in the back of his head. He had to have it cut in 4 sections. He's been great and tumor free since 2001
I think I like the purple wig better than the blue wig. It's a beautiful shade of purple and it really compliments her skin tone better than the blue wig.
I hate when they say "expected to make a full recovery". What they mean by that is that she won't have any parasites left after treatment, but as a survivor of a parasite attack myself, I would be very surprised if she was 100% back to normal without any ill effects. I certainly hope so though!
I'm afraid of what we are about to cover... but the ice cream scoop power drill fantasy I have been trying to make peace with for my entire life are making me sad 😔 Parasites in the brain 🧠? If we move to cordyceps my life will be completed
My dad had a brain aneurysm that ruptured a few years ago. He had a bad migraine that wouldn't go away, so he went to the ER, and when they did a CT scan, found an aneurysm about 4cm long and he had a ton of blood on his brain. He had to be life flighted to a bigger hospital for emergency surgery to fix it. They had to make a huge incision, and obviously cut into his skull. But thank GOD he survived and is ok now. Not many people catch/survive a brain aneurysm. We had lost my little sister less than a year prior to an OD, so I was so scared.
My mom had a very bad brain aneurysm a little over 17 years ago. She was at work and a colleague found her while she almost could not talk anymore. Everything went very fast. But yeah she was rushed to the hospital just in time and she not only survived, but completely recovered. It was really scary at that moment cause I was just 14 and later I found out that the bleed was way worse than they told me. I am forever thankful for the colleague and I hope to be as strong as my mom. ❤ I'm so happy your dad is okay! To me, brain aneurysms are one of the most scary things that can happen healthwise.
OP - I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Regarding the both of you; it's amazing to hear about your parents. My family has a *long* line of spontaneous brain aneurysms (on both sides of both sides) the only one *not* to die instantly is my maternal grandmother, then later; me. I have to admit that the part making me squirm the most was the surgery talk (I woke up from the general anesthesia during mine) and while I've gone through many things; having a doctor poke your grey matter when they don't know you're conscious is pretty high on my "f*ck THAT" list.
As a microbiology scientist, Bronchoalveolar lavage is also known as BAL lol. And parasite are not common because of our Eosinophils, they are the Parasite and Allergy police. So immune compromised people are more at risk because they have a lower WBC which means lower eosinophils (which is some of the least common WBC).
@@rebelks88 diabetes can cause immunosuppression when it’s poorly controlled so yes. That’s why poorly controlled diabetics are much more prone to abscesses and fungal infections too.
I had a co-worker get a tapeworm from undercooked meat in Mexico. Manged to die in a blood vessel in his brain, and was discovered while doctors were trying to figure out why he had suddenly developed a seizure disorder. As far as I know, he didn't have any conditions that would lead to a compromised immune system.
Omg when you said what grew inside her head makes you never want to eat veggies again, my brain supplied me with the idea of an actual vegetable growing in her head 🤢🤢🤢 but as soon as I saw the eosinophil’s number I was sure it was some kind of parasite and I was actually relieved 😂
You were relieved that "it was an actual living 🪱"?!?! Abso-fucking-lutely. Not. Could. Not. Be. Me. I am legitimately petrified of bugs, insects, parasites, etc. I would 100% rather have a whole ass head of lettuce GROWING IN MY FRICKIN' BRAIN than a "Popsicle stick sized" LIVING parasite!!! *SHUDDER* 🤢🤮😵
As a gardener, I think spiders are my friends (as long as they stay outside). They eat the "bad" bugs, like aphids. But I completely understand why you hate them Swoop.
As a lifelong migraine sufferer, stuff like this terrifies me, largely because I have such frequent headaches but would be quite a while before I thought to contact someone. For most people, headaches are infrequent and can be a great indicator they need to get checked out. For me, for many many years, headaches everyday was my normal.
@@kieramaccourt8717 A few years ago a guy I went to highschool with died from brain cancer. He started getting headaches out of nowhere, so he finally went to the doctor and got diagnosed. I'd be waiting until I wake up speaking French or worse from something growing in my brain. Or, like a woman from my hometown, have an undiagnosed brain tumor and have it cause me to murder my elderly parents. I can't imagine what it would be like to have a tumor cause such an action and then know what I did after its removal, and have to live with that. I hurt inside when I think of her.
Out of curiosity, what (if any) treatments are ya'll getting? I ask because I've been running the gambit since '02 and have a *lot* of experience (to the point where outside neuros frequently ask or assume I'm in the medical field). My main diagnoses are Chronic Migraine, Chronic Headache, and Clusters - but I'm familiar with a ton of others and different avenues (with or without access to decent specialists/insurance ect) I'd like to try to help if I can. Even if it's just resources.
hey, fellow chronic migraine sufferer here (from Portugal)! I've had my diagnosis since I was 6yo and been through all kind of preventive medicine there is (besides botox treatment), so much so that I've been part of a one-year clinical study for prophylactic triptan injections, erenumab on chronic patients who don't respond to other treatments. Here's a list of SOS treatments that have been lifesavers honestly, and have prevented many trips to the ER for intravenous treatment. I hope this list might help someone: Naratriptan; eletriptan (pill) Sumatriptan (injection, like an epi-pen) Ondansetron (pill, for nausea) Tramadol (opioid pain med) [these are subject to prescription unfortunately] I've noticed I've been having less migraines when taking 800mg of Magnesium per day (which is double the recommended dosage for "regular" people; for those who suffer from migraines 400mg won't do anything) Lastly, I swear by chinese tiger balm and oils during a crisis. I get severe neck pain along my migraine headaches and these are the only products that I can depend on besides actual pills.
As a germaphobe, I can't stand ever being nonchalant about washing food, I always wash things multiple times and also try to keep up on food recalls 8') Scares me a lot how so many people think washing food or even their hands is "worrying too much", no be safe!! aaaa Unrelated I love the little chill dances for the outros to your vids!
Do people think washing their food and hands is too much? Who are these people, english victorian surgeons? You're not worrying too much, they're probably just very careless and selfish. What the hell I thought it was common sense that we get taught as children.
Swoop being so horrified about the parasites in the snake waste is how I felt in my invertebrate zoology class last year and how happy I was I don’t have to worry about cooking food (meat) throughly to make sure any parasites die bc I’m vegetarian, although I know this case wasn’t from meat
I helped take care of a patient in my ICU who had a worm in her brain from eating undercooked pork meat. The local Health Department closed down the grocery/restaurant that was serving/selling the meat. Meanwhile the Neurosurgeon went in and removed the worm from her brain…she survived with no deficits.
My mom freaked me out with stories about the worms 🪱 in pork!! I’ll still eat bacon, but it has to be burnt!! 😂 And absolutely NO PINK in hamburgers! And burn the sausage while you’re at it!! 😂👍
@@peaches65835 yes but the ones you buy typically were already washed. So yes, you need to wash them again, too, but the ones you foraged need to get washed even better. that's what I meant ^^'
Coming from NSW myself, from Sydney, we're taught very young the essential arts of cleaning your food/hands/cooking utensils because Australia is famous for it's parasites and bugs, honestly few countries do it like we do. We actually have a little giraffe hand puppet that comes to schools every year and teaches us this - yes, it is even more wild than it sounds but we love him. And this is why. But really Lucy could have done everything right and this still would have happened because she was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Living in this place is just endless fun, 10/10 recommend lol
I went to school before the time of Healthy Harold, I live near a school and see the trailer each year though. I must admit I have no idea what it teaches but assumed it was age appropriate drugs/alcohol messaging seeing as it is for primary school (years K-6)
@@amandamandamandswhen I went to healthy Harold in the 90s, I think we mostly learned about nutrition and the digestive system, and l think there was a little bit of puberty stuff in there as well iirc.
As someone in vet med I heard eosinophils and immediately thought " oh ..that's usually increased from parasites" I'm glad it transfers to human med too 😂
Hahaha same here. I'm still studying but my uni spends a lot of time on a vet's role in monitoring and protecting public health so alarm bells immediately went off for me at the connection between foraging food and the image in the thumbnail😂
Swoop ❤ I love you for the work you do 🙏 for victims... I'm a 65 year old lady that really enjoys watching your channel 😊... You are a beautiful person inside and out 😍, I hope your life only gets better 🙏❤
As i learned in old episodes of SYSK and Sawbones, the first evidence of trepanning (cutting holes in your skull) was in the stone age. Obsidian tools and healed skull showed they survived for a long time after.
Eeugh, parasite stories always creep me the heck out (but I still watch them because why not) but parasites in the brain always adds an extra level of fear. Another one that freaks me out is worms living and squirming around inside people's eyes. And the way they remove them isn't much better. Though the one that grosses me out the most of all is the Guinea worm because it has to be removed slowly over time. The thought makes me shiver.
Same. Monsters inside Me is like a nightmare come true for me. I went paddle boarding this past summer here in Florida. In a standing body of water that was definitely super warm. I fell in and got water up my nose. I thought I was going to die from the brain eating aemeba for sure.
@@CuteGothChick Oh heck. Yeah, I heard the stories about brain eating amoeba. They're horrifying. Sometimes it's scary how prevalent some of these dangerous things are.
@@CuteGothChick The episode where the girl slept with her contacts in still haunts me. They said the eyedrops she had to use were basically pool cleaner.
House MD had an episode about eye worms, of course tho it is a medical drama so i doubt this is even medically accurate but the scene where it showed you the patients perspective and he could SEE THE WORMS MOVING AROUND IN HIS OWN EYES IT WAS SO HORRIBLE I FELT SICK 😭
My brother had a worm in his brain too. From uncooked ham.for months. It messed with his coordination. Number his arm. It was crazy. We all thought it was a tumor until the operation when they found the worm. Yuk
I am an RN who started health care as a veterinary technician. I seem to remember that when you have abnormally high level of eosinophils, it’s usually a sign of a parasitic infection.
Swoop, please, PLEASE keep making content like this. I have been going down a rabbit hole of like unsolved mysteries, disturbing reddit/internet/lost media and horror videos from creators like Nexpo, Wendigoon, Nick Crowley and have been searching for a woman creator with similar content that I can enjoy. I love the docs on your main channel, but doing more dark and spooky stuff like this is exactly what I have been looking for. Someone who adds their own commentary and humor and darker topics without making a mockery of the subjects at hand while also trying to stay objective. Thank you for making this kind of content and I hope to see more of it!
Please cover Laura Owens, who has allegedly faked pregnancies & abuse claims for years. Her most recent victim is former star of The Bachelor, Clayton Echard & they are STILL in the courts. It's really a wild story with a lot of psychological & legal interest.
This reminds me of the show “Monsters Inside Me” that I used to watch on Investigation Discovery! So creepy! The sad part was sometimes they figure out the issue & save the patient, while other times, the problem wasn’t found until after the person died😢
@@annenelson5656 it's been 3 years ( well, actually, now that we've been thinking about it, I've had complaints since i was little but it's only been bad the last 3 years) they just want to blame me being fat, which i am, but theres more than that
Keep pushing for that diagnosis! There's hope! As a fibro and rheumatiod arthritis sufferer I completely understand your journey. A lot of us with undiagnosed conditions/invisible illness sufferers have gone through the same thing. I hope you find your answers soon 💚
Speaking as somebody who's had brain surgery, I didn't know exactly what the drilling part of my surgery entailed. This has been a learning experience for me. 👍
I grew up in Texas, black widow spiders, water moccasins etc…… but my mom made a point of showing me every little worm or bug that came in with the veggies from the garden as a kid. Lesson learnt 😂
I have extremely bad anxiety but can never pass a swoop video up. The longer I watched the faster my heart was beating and hands getting clammy, I'm not even half way through a total mess but I can't stop watching, Swoop has me glued. absolutely love her content 😍
Can we talk about how she dealt with all this THREE WEEKS before even seeing the first doctor, and then enduring THREE MORE WEEKS before going back to the hospital?! Like damn, girl, can I borrow some of your pain tolerance? I would have been pestering the doctor on DAY three if I was still in that much pain! What a trooper!! I'm so glad she's going to be ok!
My dad was in a Nazi camp as a boy. His whole family had typhoid. Two did not survive. 💔💔 It was my job to make the salad for every dinner. Dad never failed to ask if I washed my hands before I made the salad. I have to thank him for the handwashing habit for keeping this autoimmune plagued woman healthy.
As soon as you said greens and that Lucy went foraging, my mind immediately went to rat lung worm. But a literal worm? That I didn’t expect 😭😭😭😭 like what the hell 😭
Whew!! "Shudders" ahh while I hope "Lucy" is recovering from all this! I'm here for these kind of creepy and dark stories and mini docs, and agree, wash your hands and wash your veggies and fruits please
I'm really happy she's likely to recover after almost a year with this thing in her, makes me wonder how long it took to actually get to her brain if she doesn't have any permanent damage.
I absolutely love your long form content Spankie, but I am absolutely here for bite size Swoop vids, talking about the macabre horror of everyday in this joyous nightmare called life! 🍿
Wow! I have to tell you a short story of my own parasitic invasion. This happened to me TWICE! I have M. S. and a few years ago I lived in an apartment with a bad well! The place was brand new; and the owners claimed that putting chloride in the well would make it safe. I still refused to drink it; but was told bathing in it wouldn’t hurt. After just a few weeks; I began to feel seriously ill and had extreme diarrhea; until I could no longer even leave my bed. I had lost in 5 weeks 60 lbs. I finally got to a Dr. and was asked if I had been out of the country which I had not. He gave me a prescription and sent me home. Within a week I had lost another 8 lbs. I went back to the Dr. and was tested for Giardia; which was positive. This is an intestinal parasite that is a worm that was literally eating and growing in my intestines. It was from bathing in the bad water; which they were neglecting to treat! A antibiotic took care of it in no time and I got well; only to have to return to my apartment; where the landlord who was now supposed to put in a new artisan well; didn’t. So I got sick Again!!!!! This time all 8 tenants in this brand new building had to be relocated at the owners expense. He was left with no alternative; so he sold the property; and it was totally redone with a newly dug well! I now have a big fear of swimming in lakes and I have a shower seat where I live now; and NEVER drink tap water. It took me over a year to fully recover my weight and still obviously have PTSD. when it comes to water. Ty Swoop for being you! ✌️
That's horrible and so irresponsible of the landlords! The thought of getting ill TWICE, and developing ptsd, from something so easily avoidable on the part of the owners would make me quite angry. Good to hear you've recovered from the illness and that your relocation expenses were covered, but it's awful that you had to experience all of that. Did anyone else living in the building at the time also get ill?
@@teodorasavoiu4664 yes. One other woman . Although after me they already knew what it was; and she was treated quickly the first time; and we were all relocated after that!
My mum has esinophilic asthma that went undiagnosed for years. Damn near killed me mothership. Fuuuuuuuuucking hell, what did i just watch? Swoop, you deserve a medal for this one my girl. Worms make me squeamish and wanna hurl. Kudos. It's a no from me. Also, Mr Oxygen Mask, has a new chapter... deportation haha.
Watched this while eating a smoothie with spinach in it... thanks, Swoop. I and all the pain patients of the world would be grateful if you did a doc about opioid hysteria destroying our livelihoods.
OMG YES PLEASE SWOOP!! I was hit by a drunk driver in’87 (dinosaurs were almost extinct) I was 18. The car I was in flipped 10 times end over end. I am now 55 headed to another spinal fusion this year; I also have Chron’s, diagnosed at the age of 9, and other autoimmune disorders too long to list. I am so tired of being treated like a criminal by people who don’t understand 😢😢😢😢 People in pain take meds to LIVE, to FUNCTION & to GET UP and move around. People NOT IN PAIN take it to F*ing PARTY!? 🤬😡🤬 Swoop, I know that you suffer from from chronic pain too, PLEASE HELP!! 💫🙏💫
MY GODDD. i live in australia and remember listened to this story over the radio- i was so horrified i had to pull the car over and just. listen and zone out.. (that’s probably why i immediately knew what this video was going to be about)
I've been in bed with a migraine for 2 days and just got past the part in the video describing the town, which sound's not dissimilar to the town i grew up in. Queanbeyan which is also in New South Wales, Australia.... starting to sweat a little here now, Swoop 😂😂😂😂
OMFG Warragul Greens are something that health people are trying to get Australians to eat. I’m from Victoria, we only have venomous snakes. For the first time I’m happy about that. Thank you Swoop and Team it’s good to be hearing you again.
Love this new channel! If you’re eating while watching this and the “I should pause the video until I finish my meal” instinct kicks in, 🗣️ listen to it
If anyone remembers her, this girl is essentially like a Cayleigh Elise 2.0 to me. Honestly, I had a feeling it was a parasite because it reminded me of a story from Monsters Inside Me: this guy was home from college & living with his aunt in Hawaii while his mom traveled around the world; his aunt had a vegetable garden & he went to make a salad one day; well, apparently he didn't rinse the greens well enough because he became so sick with a parasite, he almost died; came to find out the parasite he'd been infected with is found in snails - which could be found in his aunt's garden. Yeah, a salad almost killed him because of a snail, albeit a large snail, but still a snail. He pretty much had to relearn how to walk because of how weakened he'd been while in the hospital (can't remember how long he'd been there).
AHHHHH EARLY TO SWOOP !! I've been binge watching your content lately !! Thanks for all the work you do for the RU-vid community swoop, it truly is appreciated. Can't wait to watch this one !
As someone currently suffering from severe headaches with no known cause, until I can get through an MRI, yay claustrophobia, this is terrifying. Luckily I don't eat random greens from outdoors, but I am currently on a year long journey of trying one new recipe each week. So...I'm gonna stop procrastinating and make that MRI appointment now.
@@kateemma22 I didn’t actually know that. Good advice, but my issue is with the overwhelming feeling of not being able to get out of the confined space. And because I’m a bigger girl, the tube feels even smaller.
I had brain surgery in Melbourne, Australia in 2000. I have epilepsy which became uncontrolled after I gave birth to my daughter. I live in New Zealand and we spent almost two years experimenting with medications until we ran out of options and surgery was my only option. I was put out completely while they opened up my skull but then they brought me round because where they were operating was deep in the left frontal lobe and right around where gross motor function, speech and various other important functions are located in the brain. The idea was that they stimulate the brain with electrodes and ask me test questions so they could hear me speaking and make sure I was cognitively ok while they literally scraped away at a nodule in my brain which was like a reverse tumour. It went inside the frontal lobe rather than protruding out. Unfortunately the surgeon had a wee accident and actually cut through the transmitter or synapse or connection for speech but, fortunately, I kept talking. The function literally jumped from the left side to the right side. I was 31 then. Now I am almost 55 and, although my speech is fine, I have a tendency to lose words while I am speaking. They have a longer way to go from brain to tongue. I also ended up with depression and anxiety which I had never had before. I still have those things. I have also never recovered the same energy I had beforehand. It took two years for me to recover. Apparently having someone messing around in your brain has side effects. But I'm much better off than I was before. My seizures were lasting almost all day. It's been almost three years since my last seizure, although it took 20 years to get me that far.
Super glad i read the comments because parasite stuff really triggers my schizophrenia! Idk if you put a warning beforehand but im gonna bow out of this one for my own mental health. Still leaving a like because i love your work and love to support you!
I’ve had 3 surgeries on my head and 3 on my back.. it’s so wild to stop and think about it. Also this video is seriously making me happy I don’t like a lot of veggies 😳😳😳😳😳
Omg AWFUL. Actually, almost exactly this happened to me a few years ago. Only I had a staph infection eating my brain and skull lol. So, deff also awful, but far less scary than this imo. Poor Lucy! I truly feel for ya girl.
Yikes this gave me the chills, poor Lucy. Plus Dr. Gardener’s words did not help me feel any better, like I probably would have screamed, or fainted…or both 😧
I once had a foster kitten (plus a bonus!) returned to me because the son of the family that adopted him got a tapeworm in his brain and they couldn’t properly care for their cats anymore
Once I started chemo and radiation I started getting real bad headaches even now after the treatments I still get bad headaches which is to be expected.
