Originally I had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but as the months passed by and the clematis kept growing, but the pergola still has not been fixed.
I'm taking this drastic step to give us a clear view of the pergola structure and to take off the weight off the timbers. Hopefully this will make fixing the pergola damage easier and the clematis will eventually grow back.
Also harvested some Celebration and Irish Gold potatoes, tomatoes from the greenhouse and cleared the rose garden a bit.
I hope you'll enjoy it, and if you do, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe for all the latest updates.

I loved the way this weeks video was filmed (great drone shots of the pergola too). I think you did an excellent job on the pergola. Perfect, as I don’t think you had a choice. With the new timber, it looks like you chose a thicker option so hopefully it will last longer. You are so natural with your videos, it is always so comfortable & a pleasure to watch you. Hand feeding the chickens brought a smile to my face. I am sure they loved the tomato. 😊 To me it seems your channel will be really big in the future. Your views even now are great. It is nice to have found you so early! 🙂 Have a great week!! 🌻 P.S. (too much rain at the moment...guuuuurrrrr!)

Wow what an amazing job. I can see what a lot of hard work it was but how satisfying! Bet there is a lot more light going into your house. Full of admiration!!

Aww, thank you so much 🥰💚🌿 It was quite satisfying, like moving furniture around in a room 😂 makes the space feel different😊 At least I'm much more confident now about tackling this timber change.

Well done!! I think the clematis will respond beautifully and give you lots of growth next year. Montana is so vigorous, that although it may have a little shock at first, it will recover no problem. Sending you some sunshine vibes! Have a good week! 🌞

Hi Maiju 👋 ❤ Wow you worked so hard cutting back the Clematis no wonder you were shattered. I'm pleased you had help to remove it from your patio area. Your flowers are looking amazing 😍 Have a great week ❤

Wow, a huge job. I will be growing clematis in my future home, and I don't know much about them, so this was educational as well as impressive. Thanks for showing us.

Thank you very much, very kind of you 😊 Keep their roots cool, regardless of the pruning group/flowering group and the flowering stems in the sunshine (I usually place a flat rock on the soil at the base of the plant for this) Happy growing, they are a wonderful plant 😊💚🌿

Wow Maiju. That was a mammoth task! I love how calm Spud was. He chilled out and left you to it. I bet the clematis will have grown back over the pergola before you know it. Bet you’d forgotten how light it was in the house before the Montana covered the roof. Lovely video. Sorry you’ve not had a sunny August so far. Here’s hoping the sun finds you soon ❤

Thank you, Clare 🤗💚 I'll accept all sunshine and warm weather, please send some over here 😂 You could not be more correct about the light levels in the house 😂 its like the curtains have been removed and a huge lamp placed instead of it! From the inside the pergola looks very bare, but happy to be starting all over with the branch systems... 😊💚🌿

Wow. That was a big job you did there. I’m a huge fan of gladioli myself have lots of them in the garden, they never fail to impress. 😊

Hi Maiju, that's a big job done. Nice to hear the taste test for the potatoes and fingers crossed regarding the late blight with the tomatoes.

Oooh when the big chunks of foliage came down! Great job. It must be so much lighter inside the house now too? Love the look of the celebration potatoes. Hope the tomatoes hope out 🤞🤞

Fabulous Aerial shot of you appearing through the foliage, really put into perspective what a huge undertaking it was to remove it. Love Montana, but don’t have the space for yet another clematis and have too many already. I’ve also been hit with the botrytis/grey mould on my greenhouse tomatoes for the first time. It’s so far been a really challenging season and hoping for an extended summer🤞🏻
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses Месяц назад
Thank you 😊💚🌿 I'm all for the extended summer...or any kind of dry and warm spell of weather....😂watching the rain all of the time is getting mentally challenging... Montana is huge indeed, and at the beginning I definitely underestimated how big it would grow ( I had it originally planted in the front yard area about 7-8 yrs ago... but changed my mind about the location before it had grown too large) I keep cleaning my secateurs with antibacterial wipes now all of the time when pruning something in the greenhouse, clearing out any of the affected parts of the plants is going to be important from now onwards as the autumn approaches.. Have a great weekend 😊💚🌿

@@spudsandroses I’ve been using a diluted 3% hydrogen peroxide spray on the plants, which is currently working well and keeping it at bay. I may have just been lucky and caught it early whilst only on the stem (via sucker removal sites). So far it hasn’t travelled onto the leaves.🤞🏻. Outdoors tomatoes look so much healthier, but I’ve never seen so much black spot and powdery mildew as this season. Here is to an extended growing season!

Morning Maiju, Wow, that was a good job done!! I'm guessing all that growth had acted like a wet sponge causing the rot? It looked so healthy though....so like you say it will come back pretty quickly and no doubt stronger too! Have a great week! Take care, Annie

That was a big clearing job. I don’t know how you manage to do the filming at the same time! Looking at that trellis, would it not be better to knock the whole thing and build a new one, rather than trying to fix rotting wood?

Hi 😀 Don't get me tempted 😂😂 I already imagined the whole thing taken up (the deck needs replacing too, because of the boards)... to take down the pergola the planter boxes and the decking and start anew, get it all re-designed 😂 And then I remembered we still have a decade of mortgage to pay and also don't want to get divorced 😂😂

Hi, Lorraine 😊💚🌿 I hope you're keeping well? I am officially sick of the rain at the moment 🫣and the temperatures for next week are showing to dip below 10C at night for a day or two...🙈 I'm quite sure the clematis will be fine 😀and if it won't, there's time for something new 😊💚🌿 Mind yourself and best wishes, Maiju 😊💚🌿

@spudsandroses gardening is all an adventure, so if it will that's brill,if not it opens the gates to another adventure to create. Oh listen I've just wished this summer away. Very little time to sit and enjoy my allotment. I know re temps dipping,it's nuts,and can't rely on the weather man either.

Oh dear what a big job. We had a pergola with a Wisteria growing over it which is less agressive than clematis montana. But sorry not really helpful. Also wisteria needs more training. The clematis will be fine.
@spudsandroses
@spudsandroses Месяц назад
Thank you, Viv 🤗 Wow, having Wisteria over the pergola must have been some sight 😍 I've though about adding wisteria near the garage before, but I'm keeping it simple now, there is plenty of work as is in the garden for me 😀💚🌿
