Let's take a look at the Pittsburgh Penguins vs the Tampa Bay Lightning, which saw the Penguins move into the wildcard spot as Crosby secured his 40th goal of the season.
The fact that Sid is doing this at 36 really is absurd. Just a tremendous talent! To put that in perspective, look at Wayne Gretzky at 36. The Great One had 25 goals, 72 assists and a plus-minus of +12 in 82 games during the 96-97 season.
Right. Now let’s flip your observation around. Let’s compare their peak years. Gretzky is on top of the world while Sid is miles and miles and miles below him.
@j.thomas7128 What he is saying is that Crosby's points at age 36 are not too far off of Wayne Gretzky. The point flew over your head. The point is that is remarkable because not too many players put up 85+ points at age 36.
As a B’s fan, I really want the chaos of the Flyers and Pens making the playoffs. Also…. Never count out the Pens as long as Sid is there. That man is willing them into the postseason
LMAO. IN a video where a guy may have suffered permanent brain damage, you leave this comment. But as long as everyone knows you're a B's fan, nothing else truly matters.
@@Montrovantis coudlve left this comment on any comment on this video, like the guy talking about malkins goal, stop spreading negativity we all saw what happened
@@Montrovantis Literally on a page about hockey… where at the end of most videos he says “ so yeah, let me know your thoughts on this one” I have no obligation to focus on the one instance of that game. Its also fairly common to let people know which team you’re cheering for so that they don’t think you have some bias here. But sure… have your self indulging righteous moment on the Internet. Clown
@@Montrovantis - What a ridiculous thing to say. Why don't you complain that the video itself moved on to other topics, after sowing the collision? Speaking of brain damage...🙄
As an official, there is a reason why that part of the ice is called "no mans land". Now I fully understand that these are professionals and that they cut through that part of the ice all the time but still you gotta be careful going there. Hope he gets well soon.
I've reffed for 22 years - granted not at this level - but I have never once ever thought to myself that that is an area I want to be in as the high guy. Just an extremely odd place to go as a ref, especially where the play was at the time. I to hope he recoevers well, and soon though.
@@BeezerMNI strongly agree. It appears he was completely out of position. Not sure why he was crossing the center red line during play. Hope he’s okay.
Hope the ref is ok! Hate to see a collision like that. 😢 Unfortunately, the 4 man ref system has the refs crossing the ice like that which is risky, as the ref was also watching the play.
t think it's more than defensively they're not great, but that saidv for two period they were. And the Lightning are very good. The Rangers or Boston will be in tough against them in the first round.
Crosby is such a beast. If they do make the playoffs the entire team has to pay for his chiropractor for the rest of his life. Dude's back must be killing him.
This is really rare to see. I don’t think we give linesmen enough credit for getting out of the way of the play enough. We’re probably a few years away from seeing an award for officiating, just because of hard the game is to call.
Sid changed hockey for the better since he joined the league. Imagine everyone that hated him when he was a rookie still felt that way. I like many thought he was a whiny kid but he grew into an absolute fuckin unit all around
To be fair, 83 points in 77 games shouldn't get your near a playoffs spot. It's not just that the Pens have been impressive in playing so good down the stretch, it's also impressive how completely horrible everyone else has been in the last month or so to give them a chance to begin with
Eastern conference is crazy top heavy this year. Definitely leads to some unique playoff races for wildcard spots, its fun to see, but wouldn't want it to happen every year.
Lifelong Pens fan (I live an hour south in WV) and have to tell you, this season has been an exercise in excitement, anger, and stress like you cannot believe. I almost turned off the Detroit game because I was sure that we'd lose in OT. Thankfully my wife told me I'd hate myself if I was wrong. The upcoming games are going to be tough and I'm not deluding myself that our wildcard slot is safe, but I'll keep hoping for that Cinderella story!
I haven't had time to follow hockey much this season and to open the nhl app this morning and see the caps not just still in the running but there being two spots open to them still blew my mind. granted I think they are losing as I type this so that might not be true in a minute or two, but I'm still impressed.
As long as Sid wears the C, apparently he knows how to push his team onto another level We've seen that already during the playoffs but this is getting out of hand 😂
I’m a Sharks fan, but watching this game reminded me of when the Sharks beat the Blues in 2016 and I was waiting for the winner of the Tampa vs Pittsburgh series the next day, in Pittsburgh too, like today. I so badly wanted Tampa to win it so we’d have home ice advantage by one point lol, but nope. This game felt like that with all the vets scoring like they were 10 years younger, the atmosphere in the building, etc. That’s rare for a regular season game.
@@vulcandor2573 San Jose played Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup Final in 2016. They beat the Blues on May 25, 2016 and the next day Pittsburgh and Tampa played Game 7, the winner, Pittsburgh, went to the Stanley Cup Final. Pittsburgh had more points than San Jose so they got home ice advantage. Had Tampa beat Pittsburgh, San Jose would have had home ice advantage and I do think they would’ve won. So yeah. That’s how Tampa vs Pittsburgh affected San Jose. I was just saying this game yesterday reminded me of that game 8 years ago between Tampa and Pittsburgh.
I'm a hockey referee. Referees are taught to stay out of no-mans land (centre ice) consistently, but often this scenario is the exception. Kozari is the back official, standing behind the play. What he did not realize, is that there was another tampa player, Haydn Fleury. In this scenario, he should have noticed Fleury's change, and moved backward to keep Fleury within his gaze, if not simply just moving his head to keep an eagle eye on Fleury. Any official is supposed to keep "their head on a swivle", as we are taught. Keep all skaters within your gaze, and only go in no mans land when safe. Players are allowed to accidentally run into referees, referees are not supposed to accidentally run into players, he should have been more alert, from a referee standpoint. Nonetheless, I wish Steve a quick and proper recovery, and that all his fine with him. Thoughts and Prayers.
The Pittsburgh first rounder belongs to San Jose, but is top 10 protected (at which point they can give the 2025 pick away instead). My biggest fear as a Pens fan is that they play themselves into the 11th spot in the lottery, hit on the 3% chance at the first overall, and are forced to give it up to San Jose
I'm still scared to get my hopes up about the pens making it, I want nothing more but as a fan I'm not letting my guard down especially when they almost blew it yesterday 😂
I think the thing with Sid is he came into the league as a star, you can guarantee he’s going to leave as one. I doubt he gets below 60-70 points in a season, he’ll probably retire before that. But he’ll play damn good hockey until then. He deserves more help
Don’t think the Pens D is as big of a problem as people are saying. Lightning had a fluky goal to start the 3rd and 2 power plays goals (which they have the best power play in the league). If these were the Penguins from earlier in the season they probably would have lost 6-4, but they didn’t panic when the game was tied and worked to get the 5th goal and had a big defensive stop at the last minute when Tampa had a 6 on 4 man advantage. Also one more note ever since Malkin’s parents have come to visit from Russia, Malkin is playing like his old self.
I myself am an Oilers fan and us Oilers fans do not like Kozari because it seems he has a bias against us... regardless you hate to see someone get seriously injured.
When comparing Sid to The Great One , we must also see the growth in a healthy lifestyle, recovery knowledge and other scientific insight and practical technology. Plus how the games rules are different
Honestly, I think the Capitals are the ones who choose what happens, they have to play basically everyone who is in the race. But it’s up to us to get in, and it is very much a difficult schedule, though one of the big 3 teams has been won, go penguins,
As a Ranger fan, it's always an amazing series to play Washington, but we haven't played the Islanders in a while, so there's a certain appeal in that possibility. Flyers are always fun series too, but I'm kinda leaning toward wanting to see the Isles, I think. Not super hip to meeting Florida or Carolina, but it will probably have to happen, at some point....
Detroit in the wild card (the only way they can make it with the stacked and packed Atlantic this year), and Pittsburgh in 3rd in the Metro? As a Wings Fan, I'm here for it. And if somehow DET makes it that far, and somehow come up against the Pens in a later round, I would be marginally less sad if Detroit lost then, because I would be rooting the Pens the whole way. I'd Love to see Sid raise the Cup one more time.
Damn, that's horrible. We get to just sit and watch comfy as fans but if you're ACTUALLY reffing or playing, that's your career, you got a family, etc. Truly hope he's ok
We boo the refs all the time, but goddamn, its a very dangerous job to do. You have to consider these refs have to keep track of a rubber puck that flies around the rink, 10 players (and 2 goalies) going around trying to check and get the puck, the number of players on the ice, penalties, icing, offsides, and they have to do this all while trying to remember positions and getting out of the way in such a fast-paced game. I hope that ref is ok, and that nothing serious comes out of it. May he have a speedy recovery.
i was at the game when that ref was seriously injured i thought he was died he lay on the ice and did not move a muscle for quite some time i thought he was in a coma because of his head trauma
I was there as well. He was 100% motionless then surrounded completely by trainers and medics. There was zero indication that he was in anyway ok until they got him on the gurney and he raised his arm. The place was basically library quiet.
@@bradsimonelli1951 yea i understand because my entire section was watching the play and then we just see him down we are all asking what happened and we said bring the EMS out he hasn’t moved
Lets be real, Pitt is succeeding because of other teams failing. Detroit, theyve been playing so good and they just are barely losing games. it's been the same thing all year, you add the 10 points they'd have added to their current total if Larkin doesn't get hurt and cause them to go like 3-13 or something like that without him? And there's no race for the wild card at all. Pitt, they're not a GREAT team but, if they make the playoffs, anything is possible. But, playing Boston or NYR or Carolina round 1, they're just too complete of teams. It would take some serious luck and focus to win a series vs those teams
Regardless of what happens this year. Hear me out. Trade Jarry. Bring up Blomquist as a backup. Try to resign Jake- if not go for young draft picks and/ or another skilled player with the money freed up from Jarry contract. Also - Carter is off the books next year as well.
If the Pens make it into the playoffs, theyll just lose in the first round like they have for the last 4 seasons. Ni matter how good they are in the regular season, they outright refuse to win in the playoffs. The last time they made it past round 1 was in 2017. And they only made it to the 2nd round that year. But the 2020bplayoffs were easily the most embarrassing The Pens were atop the East. All the commentators and analysts thought the Pens would make it at least to the Conference finals. They got eviscerated by the Islands in Round 1. They lost 4-2.
all are hot except wsh and phi, never know what can happen after tampa In 2019 and boston last year. pens are intriguing too, had decent underlying numbers all year. don't want to be "that guy" but they've been insane since graves and harkins got injured (worst on the team by far). and with malkin finally playing well, u can never know
🤔 what is the referee doing in the centre of the ice, his own fault . In ref school their is no reason to be crossing the ice at anytime, hence the 2 man referee system.
