Hello everyone! In this random exploration video in Seoul, we end up at Gongdeok Station (공덕역) and explore one of our favourite neighbourhoods in Seoul, Yonggang-dong (용강동) which also happens to be a pretty wealthy neighbourhood. It was also the perfect timing, with Korean Lunar New Year, or Seol-nal (설날) approaching. We take a walk along one of Seoul’s best places to go for a walk, the Gyeongui Line Forest Park (경의선숲길), then show off Gongdeok’s office district and the Mapo Galmaegi Alley (마포갤매기골목), which is a legendary spot with tons of barbecue places. There we visited Guldari Kimchi Jjigae (굴다리김치찌개), a kimchi jjigae place that’s been around for over 40 years, which ended up being amazing! After lunch, we continued to explore the neighbourhood and show our favourite spots, and we ended the exploration with a tour of Gongdeok Market (공덕시장) and Hyochang Park (효창공원), which was our first time visiting.

I had completely forgotten about the dishes from the Chinese restaurant deliveries. You'd regularly see them stacked outside front doors in the pre-bag days. If a delivery came late in the day, the dishes might sit out there all night. Sometimes they'd be there for a day or two. There was a trend in the early 2000s where some restaurants would deliver the food in plastic tubs. Then when you were done you'd drop the dishes in the tub, put the lid on, and set that outside. Another memory that just came back: any time I moved into a rented flat, there'd be magnets and menu cards in one of the kitchen drawers from all the Chinese and chicken places in the area, so it was never necessary to go out and look them up. That usually meant jajangmyeon for lunch and/or dinner on my first day in any flat. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for all the stories Mike! It's really interesting to see the evolution of food delivery here! I totally forgot about the magnet menu cards that everyone just stuck to their doors too haha. Seems like they are fading away slowly kind of like the flyers they would scatter all over the ground too! I still remember my first time ordering deliver by phone with one of those cards, thinking there is absolutely no way they understood what I said (I had no idea what they said that's for sure), and when the guy knocked at my door with food it felt like I was some kind of super hero for making it happen haha. Definitely a lot easier to do now!

Super interesting. All of the city workers lunching at the same time must cause problems. At one place I worked in Sydney, too many technical staff weren't allowed to lunch together, in case there was a major issue back at the office (and no-one to fix it).

Thanks a lot @MagicGreenSquid! I'm sure it causes problems and it can definitely be annoying when you want to get something done and it's right before lunch break but you have to wait a full hour for them to open up again. Korea is definitely very group oriented in the office though, and I notice a lot of co-workers like to eat out together (some might be pressured to do so though).

Really appreciate the historical background information, whether it's about food delivery or past Korean leaders. Also, I'm really against constructing new high rises for housing. Korea has a huge affordable housing situation and high rises costs so much more (more than double per square foot) in comparison to a standard 2 story building.

Thanks a lot @ICDeadPeeps glad we could put some interesting information in there! Also you are right that Seoul's prices are getting out of control, and they continue to make the buildings higher and higher. I don't think we will be able to afford to live here for our whole life! Haha

You both speak fluent English why didn't you get English teacher job rather than food delivery?
