Matt, when I first got into woodworking I made a 14’ conference table out of Cottonwood. I bought the Triton track saw to cut the boards to glue up. On the first cut I made the saw starting smoking about halfway thru the 14’ cut. I took it back to Rockler, went and bought a Festool track saw at Woodcraft and it sang thru the cuts. The Triton couldn’t cut the 1 3/4” cottonwood, but the Festool cut it like butter. I’m sticking to Festool and will cry just once😁

Triton is the most underrated brand available in the U.S. Have a Triton router that lives in the router table and it has been great!

I bought this saw about 2 or 3 months ago, and I like it very much, and for the same reasons you like it. There are two issues I have with it that, you didn't mention in this video. The first of these issues is that they also make a 7 1/2 inch version of this saw that has a slightly more powerful motor than this saw has, HOWEVER, it's not available here in the USA. Shipping on the 7 1/2 version makes it cost prohibitive, and you'd have to immediately void the warranty by cutting the UK plug off and replacing it. Between the cost of the 7 1/2 inch saw plus shipping, I could buy the RIDGID saw. Yes, you can find adapters fairly inexpensively, but when it comes to power tools, that's where I draw the line. The Second (two part) issue I have with this saw is the blade and the oddball size of it. The blade is 6 1/2 inches, which is pretty standard, BUT, the saw has a 20mm arbor. I have been completely unable to find the same size blade that this saw came with. I did find a 6 inch blade that fits onto a 20mm arbor, but with it, I'm sacrificing 1/4 of an inch in cut depth, which also means that I have to adjust the depth of cut while factoring in that difference. I suppose I could look for a 6 1/2 inch blade that requires an arbor larger than 20mm, and get an arbor adapter/shim to make it fit the saw, but I haven't really looked into those adapters, and know very little about them. The other half of the blade issue is that, the included blade is a bit too wide, and it grinds against the base of the saw, and probably will continue to do so until the blade trims the base to fit. I think Triton could have very easily included a better fitting blade, not only width-wise, but also uses a 5/8 inch arbor, and without effecting the price. Given the shortcomings that this saw has, on a scale of 1-10, I give this saw a 7. GREAT VIDEO MATT!!!!!!!!

I have the Kreg ACS and have never had a problem making perfectly square cuts, since you mentioned it as one of the saws in the Triton price range.

Holy moly its corded! Just for that reason alone i might get this one... $200+ for a battery for a ridgid,milwaukee, festool pretty well sucks when you dont have any battery operated tools of them brands

This is a Wen corded track saw in a different color scheme. Save money and buy the Wen 7 1/4 corded track saw, better saw cheaper and 15 amps. Blades available locally at box stores. Currently running a 60 tooth Diablo on mine.

I have a Dewalt cordless tracksaw. I like it a lot but would probably go with the makida or milwaukee if I were to do it over. The funny thing is, I really don't need a tracksaw to be cordless and would probably prefer a corded saw. My reasoning is that I always use a dust extractor anyway so plugging the saw in doesn't cost any more effort. I think there has been 2 times in the years I've had it, where the fact that the saw was cordless came in handy.

Triton is also an Aussie brand made in the 70s originally designed because the maker wasn't satisfied with accuracy of cuts from most cutting solutions of the time. The Triton work stations are some of the best quality you will ever find.

Cords are for budget guys. Who cares what the cost of the saw is if you have to buy a ton of batteries, and keep replacing them. My corded tools last forever too.

I've had my Triton for approximately 3 to 4 years, and it has worked well for me.

As a right handed person, I don’t understand why more woodworkers aren’t complaining about the lack of left side blade saws… I hate hate hate looking over the saw, or using my left hand, to see where the blade is using a right hand blade saw. For that reason alone, I own and love the kreg that I bought a few months ago. No riving knife is a deal breaker.

Im glad youre doing these. I need a cheap tracksaw. I dont use them much. Usually just to square plywood scraps and my home made one is a 32nd bowed in the middle

I like the way you 'demonstrated' how to cut your product with proper plunge depth for the product your cutting.

Excellent, helpful review, Matt. This is VERY similar to the WEN CT1274 corded 12 amp track saw, which is head & shoulders better than its little sibling for not many more dollars. I keep hoping you'll review that. Also, you can get a track saw hole cover for most any saw from WittWorks, which will markedly improve dust collection.

I've got a couple of Triton routers. I have a lot of respect for the company.

I’ve had my triton track saw for some time now and I’m happy with it. Maybe 5 years? Dust collection will improve significantly if you find a way to cover the the hole on the guard plate like a piece of tape 😅

You did a video on the corded Wen 2 years ago, and if they are similar enough why pay 2x more for the Triton. I have the corded Wen (based on your video) and just recently bought the Milwaukee for $350 on sale (since I already have the Wen tracks and Milwaukee batteries). If you want budget, you should pay $100. If not go directly to $350-$399 list for the Milwaukee (if you already have Milwaukee batteries). I believe there is no reason to go in between at $220 or so for Triton or any other with proprietary tracks. That's my 2 cents.

For checking tear-out on plywood, one should do a cross-cut against the grain, not a rip with the grain. Also, I think you have "right-hand" and "left hand" backwards - you're holding the Triton with your left hand on rips, and holding the Kreg with your right hand.

Yeah my boss got us the festool to rip sheets of corian and im so in love with festool that im looking to get some of theyre products on my own. The quality is worth every penny.

Overall this was a good review of the triton all though i would suggest putting a piece of tape over the window for the blade as this does improve dust collection much more, like you said the dust collection is better on the milwaukee is better but they provide a cap to cover the window for the blade, what puts me off milwaukee is the repairability.

Funny that you call this a 'Right Hand' track saw. I'm right-handed but I've always preferred having the blade on the left side. My favorite corded circ saw was the Porter Cable Left-handed model.

Anti-kickback vs riving knife - am I the only one who biases toward the riving knife because I’d rather have a chance for a smooth, continuous cut over a stopper mechanism that saves the kickback but requires me to restart the cut and potentially have an inconsistency?

I have a UK version. It's identical other than 240v and a better plug. Really happy with it.

I would not be surprised to see Triton making some of these changes. It seems the good tool companies are paying attention to what people are saying on social media.

Matt, great review. I like Triton tools. While I don’t have the track saw(I have a Wen and for what I do it’s great), I have the Triton TRA-001 3-1/4HP router and have it on my router table. That router is a beast and table top adjusting, and a Kreg router base.

I was in Menards this week and walked through to see what or even if they had a Track Saw. They have a Masterforce Track saw. I was wondering if you be doing a review on it some time?

I bought a Wen but not the Wen everyone seems to test. The Wen I have is corded (which I prefer as I already have a dust hose attached) and it takes an 8 1/4 blade. This means I get a greater depth of cut and I can buy Diablo blades. Having said that, it's still in the box as I had to move and as of yet, set up a place to work. I don't get the enthusiasm for cordless track saws. If your using a dust extractor, you still have a hose to drag around,

I was sold on the Ridgid saw until I heard that it uses an oddball track. If I go premium I will probably go with DeWalt because even though it's not the greatest of the premium ones I already have 60 volt batteries. I was able to find some Powertec track to go with it.

I think if you got a hold of a Wen 1274 (12 amp corded) you will find these are extremely similar saws. I have one and they look remarkably similar.

Have you tried the Wen 7 1/4" track saw?

I used the Milwaukee and the ridged and the Metabo HTP and my own Makita and festool and well the riving knife actually can damage the Edges of the material when cutting anything with a Veneer or particle board I noticed this with my test and that is why Festool metabo makita do not use a Riving knife Plus the festool makita and the metabo htp can cut metals and where made for multi material ..and a Riving knife on metal, composites and plastics is bad news ........... and that is why they also have a speed adjustment for the materials

How well will the Milwaukee fit the Triton tracks? Not overly impressed with my Triton and I do think having the Triton as well as the Milwaukee will up my game. Also when I put the Freud blade on the Triton it was a significant upgrade. Thanks for all you do.

Hey Matt, Have you done a review of the makita track saw? also could you do a review of the Bosch track saw? I have often considered the Bosch track saw because it received good reviews on amazon and it has a lot of features.

Looks like a great tool, for the best under 500. I would like to hear your thoughts on the Makita one more. I just notice in the woodworking/shop groups Im in people seem to really praise that saw. I know there is fanboyisms out there, but just noticable when some body asks which track saw, makita gets alot of votes and almost no compaining

I enjoy the depth you go into when reviewing these tools. I had a thought while watching this one. You mentioned on these cheaper track saws the plastic parts tend to lend themselves to more deflection. Are any of them parts that you could possibly replace with an off the shelf metal version (like if its a plastic wing nut replace with a metal one of the same size) or is it usually the housings that are the issue? Also, are any of the questionable parts something that could potentially be 3d printed with maybe a slightly stronger material or lower tolerance and correct some of that?

Tungsten rings are actually extremely easy to remove in an emergency, as you can easily break them with a vice grip

Dust collection might improve with an arbor cover. I know Wittworks has them for Triton.

I have the big Triton Router and it is great. Based on that, I second your recommendation, but I alrady have the Kreg "plunge saw" which I bought in 2019 and was the best bang for the buck at the time, especially with all the accessories that went with it, which I also have. One question I have about the Triton though is, can you slide the saw backward after making a cut, or does that kickback thing prevent that. If it does, turning it off each time is probably going to wear it out. If it will, I would go for one with a riving knife. Second thought. There are a lot of plastic knobs on it. Simple is better, in my opinion.

All the low end track saws are from the same supplier. Wen, Triton, Lumberjack, Masterforce, Macalister, Erbauer, Titan, Rutlands, Scheppach, Einhell ect. If the saw has the 3 postion rotating paddle switch next to the handle then it's from that factory. They have that patented. All pretty much the same.

I bought the green machine first, Not happy with it at all, overrated. Gave it away and bought a Makita, still using it on a regular basis. Bought the Kreg because it was a right handed saw. Love it and use it on a regular basis also. Never had any problems with the Makita and the Kreg. The green machine, will never own anything made by them again. I have a friend that bought the Triton and loves it. Good review and thanks for sharing.

Great video. I been looking for a good budget track saw and I think I have watched every track saw video you have. All the plastic on the wen scared me.

Believe it or not, it's easier to design a motor-brake on a brushless motor than a brushed motor, such as a corded track saw. Brushed wear at a far greater rate if the power going to them is reversed every time you release the trigger until zero rpm is achieved. This is because brushes are kind of 'floating-contacts'. This is a simple explanation of what's happening in there. The easiest way to get a blade brake in a brushed motor tool is to attach it to the rotor shaft, which would, in turn increase the shafts weight, and reduce it's efficiency. Using a 'slow-start' on a brushed tool is a much to protect the tool and increase the service life of the brushes, and other components. But, it feels so better than a tool that jumps, or ramps when you 1st pull the trigger.

Four years ago I was given a broken Makita circular saw. I removed the broken blade guard and made it into a dedicated track saw. I built a single 65" track for it. I used it quite a bit and even took it to jobs with me. Later I bought a real track saw. That was the biggest mistake. There really is only one real advantage the real one has, that's plunge cutting. The pain in the butt the thing puts me through to use it, isn't worth my time. My homemade tracksaw does exactly what I built it for. That's much more than I can say for these tools. My homemade one cuts straighter and truer with less tool marks and waaaay less setup time.

Matt, If I have a table saw, a miter saw and a circular saw why would I need a track saw? I'm new to wood working.

The last time I tried a triton product it failed spectacularly within minutes of unboxing. The router let out the blue smoke flush trimming 1/2 plywood.

All the controls and adjustments are identical to my corded 7&1/4" Wen. It's the same saw. But heck, my Wen is a good saw. I've built two kitchens with it.

Triton was considered elite at one time.. When they lost an engineer and the exclusive patent rights for the jawhorse, they seem to have gone a different direction...

The Tritan and the Erbauer (UK store brand) are clones. Most people recommend putting duct tape over the side hole for a big improvement in dust collection.

My Tritons motor failed after less than 100yds of cuts all were under 3/4 inch softwood.

Now that you been able to review many tracksaws, it would be nice if you circled back to the Kreg and evaluate it again, as that 2yr. Old review seemed to come across as your first experience with a track saw. Let’s see if your evaluation would be different.

Have you tried the Bosch cordless track saw? How does it compare to the Milwaukee?

Nice review. As for the dust collection would there be any gain is suction if the front plate window had a piece of tape over it? I assume most of the suction is lost to that window and not allow air to pull from the bottom like other model designs

I just went to Buyers' Guide and the Milwaukee was not listed at all. #1 was the Makita and #2 the Festool.

I would love to have a Milwaukee track saw, but I am already in the Ridgid family. Is the Ridgid track saw worth an additional $140.00 over the Triton? Is corded vs cordless the biggest difference? At this point I would probably only need a track saw a few times per year. Maybe 4 or 5 times? Of course if I had one I may find that I would use it more?

These reviews always make me sad when you mention the Milwaukee In the UK that Triton saw bare tool is £170 or £238 with 2x tracks and 2x clamps. The Milwaukee is £549 bare tool, or £799.99 with 2x 5.5ah batteries and no track.

I am looking at this saw and I have 2 questions 1. Are tracks included and 2. It's input voltage on the spec sheet is 240 is that correct? Thanks

Great video like always! (As far as i can remember since joining your community. But have been lovin it here!) But i have a question for you and/or anyone here: i nabbed a Kobalt 1 1/4 hp trim router (#5207238) at our local Lowe's couple days ago, (tank you very much wifey person!😂) on sale for $40 redgular like $100. Did we stumble on a good deal? Is this trim router any good? Please say its heckuva lots better than my old Buffalo Tools Trimmer Router that ive had for about 12 years and bought from those old 'truck trailer parking lot sale' thingys (which usually have tools worse than Harbor Frieght stuff lol)
