Agreed! Almost every nutritional MD specialist (and others) I follow, some of the best in the world, advocate daily supplementation of Vitamin D, and K depending on your Calcium intake. Vitamin D half life (or how long it stays in the body) is 15 hours. Even in the summer you'd be surprised the levels you absorb or don't? Of course there are many factors, like where you live, exposure time, diet, supplement quality, that play a big role in terms of absorption. I upped my Vitamin D levels a few years ago and I can't remember the last time I had a sniffle? I should also mention I have a great diet, exercise regularly, and as a result very good metabolic health. I had Vitamin my D levels tested every month for a year as part of a program so I know exactly how many IU I need to take to keep me at the level where I want it to be. This is not health or medical advice. Do your own research. The University of San Diego has done some great work on Vitamin D. I have no affiliation. Keep well 🙏

@@stuomsen5094 Active vitamin D (calcitriol) is a half-life of 15 hours. The half-life of the stored form of vitamin D (calcidiol) is 15 days and it can store much longer than that if sequestered into your bodies fat stores. That is why if you overdose on vitamin D it can take a long time to get back down to normal levels.

Low vitamin D in winter definitely is a problem. Our evolutionary ancestors lived around the equator, so they evolved with high vitamin D all year around. And That's still what our body absolutely needs for proper immune function. 80 to 100 (USA) being ideal. A day in the sun on a naked skin would produce about 30,000 IU so no danger of over dosing up to 30,000 IU daily by supplements during winter, or summer as well unless you really get a lot of sunshine. Older people poorly produce vitamin D from sunshine so supplementation even in summer will be definitely necessary.

Everybody needs to get a blood test for D but also go by how feel and keep track over time. Also your age makes a difference as well as other factors. I live in a very high UV zone where I garden. The sickest I ever got was when my vitamin D was 27 in October. My flu lasted a month and it was like Covid plus influenza A combined. Took supplements and haven’t been sick in an over a year. I have learned I MUST take a supplement because I just don’t make enough.

Very few, though not zero, of the vloggers in the health / longevity arena, consider age. Those that do appear to be in agreement that many health molecules reduce in their absorption or self creation as you pass 40, 50 or older. The result from studies don't appear to tease out different results for the older population. Being over 70, I would like to be better guided on these issues by researchers looking more specifically at the over 60s.

The Sectosteroid Hormone D group doesn't recommend taking synthetic D supplements and they have the evidence to back it up. Have Jim Stephenson Jr. On your channel to explain.

Don't agree. Most people have poor biomes and aren't making vitamin b in the gut which has all kinds of knock on effects, for starters. Many people can't eat eggs or dairy due to autoimmune problems. I'm tired of these blanket advice types. What worked for you isn't relevant to everyone else

Holy shit, we're really f**'ing up how shit works. Spring - Lean, mean, sex machines. Late summer/Fall - fresh high-carb fruit and plants everywhere, we pack on a few lbs, absorbing Vit.D in the process. Winter - Not much food, we lose weight, burning fat, releasing Vit.D. WOW - Is this true??

He may be getting enough D from his diet. Beef, milk and eggs. If you feel you might be low because of diet, inflammation, etc it might be worth it. Blood tests can only tell what’s in the blood, not what is in your tissues, fat cells. It’s really hard to overdose on D but taking the supplement also reduces your magnesium and potassium as well you need to take K2.
@Nick23at63
@Nick23at63 16 часов назад
Hey Doc, do you have any evidence why Vitamin D would be bad other than what you've read elsewhere? Also, are you taking Vitamin K2 as well, since you are getting Vitamin D from the sun? You strike me as the typical allopathic doctor who obeys all the rules set in med school but never took the time to investigate the actual data.

This is the problem with broad generalizations in medicine. What happens in the bodies of the very young and very old is very different than what happens with young to middle aged adults. What happens when someone has a chronic disease is is way different than the requirements of a healthy person. What happens with a crap diet is very different compared to what happens with a healthy diet. Some people are well advised to take supplements.

The dentist has forgotten to mention why supplements could be bad, then we need proofs as trials or similars, cause we aren´t in the chruch of the 15 th century.

This can all be solved by testing your Vit D levels. If low, take a supplement, if not don't. Simple. Getting tired of all these experts just telling their story and what happens/happened to them. Less anecdotes and more science based evidence please.
