don’t even need to watch the video, picking up a rwd, black on red 6 speed 340 this weekend I’m super hyped Edit: Plans changed and I actually picked it up on 12/8. I found the car in my desired spec only 15 minutes away here in SoCal so I got super lucky. So far I’ve put 300 miles on it and love every second of it. The car is on 513M’s, MPPSK, and Dinan coils. Coming from a manual IS300 I found it way more engaging than I thought I would. My only issue with it is the electric steering of course, but once you get past that it’s a perfect daily. Looking high and low for a 6 speed was 100% worth the effort!
Have a listen to your turbo wastegate and actuator arm. Mine unfortunately has that ticking noise. it's a silly design flaw from BMW. No noticeable boost power loss but I hear it all the time where I accelerate over 2.5k rpm. Hope yours is mint!
@@crouchingchicken007 I checked the car out a few weeks ago it’s super mint for 50k miles. Well taken care of and always been a california car. It’s painful waiting for the day to come 🫠
Just got a good history 2017 340i xDrive about 2 weeks ago. This is my first BMW, coming over from Infiniti cars. Gotta say, I'm liking it so far. Already did an mhd flash and did a bunch of easy maintenance items, oil, coolant, etc. Easily beats the pants off my old Infiniti
I opted for my 2018 340ix over an F80 M3, mostly for the AWD and cost effectiveness of modifications. Currently big turbo and fbo, on a custom flextune. Runs 10s like clockwork. It's probably my favorite sedan I've owned
@@prestoiidx generally the closer to 600 torque you get, the closer to the transmission failing. Also should be mindful of axles and driveshaft if launching alot at that level, and manifold if running over 30lbs of boost.
imo, comparing a manual vs auto is really all about fun vs convenience, period. yes, even if the auto has the greatest clutch in the world, the feeling is worlds apart. i have a mppsk f36, my very first auto bec i needed the xdrive. it sucks i can't rev it while cruising.
Unmodified 490 bhp m3 f80. The look on the front is amazing 340 looks average no rolled arch have you seen the f80 seats m3 all the way ps rear wheel only drivers car 😜
Once again, you've kept me tuned in. Your videos have improved so much over the years--the consistent audio levels, video quality, the great angles/shots, etc. I'm still not a Beams fan, but I'll admit, it's YOUR videos I prefer to follow despite "suggestions". As always, keep up the awesome presentations, Jus!! 😎👍
@@justinbuice You're on drugs, they are not in high demand, only crazy people buy them. Very expensive car to buy which depreciates heavily and has significantly higher maintenance costs associated. Be sensible, buy yourself a Honda or Toyota from the dealership and save your money.
Definitely been waiting for the used car market to correct a bit. Although, I do see a nice amount on the market, I'm a slow boy lover and manuals are so damn rare to find unwrecked. Hopefully in a couple months I'll be apart of the b58 crew. Love the content bro!
Great video. As someone who has owned a few non-M cars, and also a few M cars...I would still chose the M3/M5 every time. Out of the box it is more capable, looks more aggressive, and I don't feel a sense of desire for other BMWs on the road when I am in my car. When I had my 335, I always drooled over the M3, but I don't feel this the other way around. The 335/340 is probably one of the best cars for the money and it still comes in a manual! I like your setup, hope you are well man.
I agree. the m3 g80 for example, looks wayyyy more aggressive than the regular 3 series... so if you're a show off person, the m3 looks like its double the price of the 3 series... which it sorta is. It also has 100+ hp out of the box, and is way more capable on stock internals.
My stripped g80 comp x was 12k more than a loaded m340 and will hold its value quite a bit better. I agree with you, I have never looked back and wish I bought that. The s58 zf8 combo is pretty damn solid.
Autos are popular because the current generation can’t drive. Same as the sales of sports bikes declining because lack of talent and balls. In a lot of cases literally.
Do you know anything about on the dashboard when it comes up emergency service is not available I’ve change the battery in the back liner of the car which I have a g31 BMW M5 3 L diesel 2018 plate but the era is still on the dashboard do you know how to get rid of can you help me please and keep making a Videos thank you Gary
Great video. I’ve got a new m340i ordered with all the options. The price tag hurt and I had F80 money but after driving both the F80 and G80, I preferred the daily comfort of the G20. It just felt more comfortable and better city driving/traffic manners. I also drove a new M5 and honestly that’s what I really want but they’re still out of my price range unless I get one with high mileage and I want a warranty.
Aside from the amazing car upgrade and the mods can we talk about the videography quality and improvement over the years you have mastered the the skill sir. These videos are top of the line. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
3:00 the automatic gearbox is the ZF 8HP and is a insane piece of technology. There is software like xHP to greatly improve this transmission even further. It is not expensive and you can flash it by yourself. 6:30 with MHD you can tune the engine safely (very common software, lots of experence) by flashing the software and the MHD OBD2 Adapter is capable of flashing the xHP software to the transmission as well! BTW: I don't own a BMW with B58 and ZF 8HP yet, but I plan to buy one and I know tuners and owners using the software I mentioned. For me, this is the way to go with my future b58 ;)
Best way to preserve your engines plastic components is to open your hood after a spirited drive to let all the heat escape. Leave the hood open for 20-30 mins or longer then garage the car if you can.
If you want a raw driving experience the M3/M4 is what you are looking for. F3x is a much softer family car in comparison. I went from F36 to an F82. Speed isn't everything, but S55 gets more power mod for mod than B58. B58 is really good and fast if the F3x has xDrive. The M3/M4 is more of a drivers car.
Not an f30 but I just purchased a 2023 g20 m340i and I gotta say, the b58 is a quite literally a perfect engine! Has amazing performance when needed but can be tame and fuel efficient as well! Awesome video and I’m super happy to join the BMW family 😎👊🏻
It’s about 5% more compromised, but the trunk in the 440i is unbeatable. Highly reccomend one if you want something that can easily fit a bike in the back. While also looking better in my opinion, especially if you get the exec package headlights that are available on thr M3/M4
I have owned lots of different BMW over time, but F31 was the first i really liked. I did have the 320d X-drive model not the powerful 340i, but still it was fun to drive. After replaicing the engine timing chains and fixed the transfer box, i was just pure pleasure to drive. Unfortunately i had to sell it, but considering buying something more sportier and 340i is something on my whishing list. :)
Great video as always! I picked up a '16 440i f33 and have been loving it. As a previous owner of a 08 E90 M3 and a '11 335 xdrive, I can't say enough how far they've came over the 8 years. I'll miss the manual v8, insane redline and soundtrack, but for a person in my early 40s, in Michigan, this car really checks all the boxes. Can do a Costco run with the top up, and for the family of 4 with the top down, I couldn't be happier. Coupe in the winter with a set of Blizzaks, RWD, wish me luck!!! Based on your review, coilovers and brake upgrades are on next year's agenda for sure!
You can manage no problem. I run a lowered f80 M3 as a daily through Toronto winters. With winter tires, it's almost as good in the winter as my old Subaru STI (other than from green lights, but throttle modulation + starting in second gear will be your friend 👌)
I'm absolutely going to upgrade my 2011 335i to a 2018 340i when the time comes. I have put so much work and energy into my e90, I can't upgrade until its dead! My problem is that it never dies... I always fix it!
I'm actually currently looking at a 2016 340i so this video was great timing. Funnily enough, I never really looked into buying a BMW until I saw your videos on your 340i and it seemed like a good purchase.
One thing that BMW owners should know, cooling system plumbing is plastic as opposed to metal like in the past. Chances are the heat causes these plastic parts crystallize and develop very small cracks that cause the coolant to evaporate slowly. Therefore no leaks would be detected from a slowly evaporating substance. If possible, replace all platsic plumbing with high quality generic or OEM metal parts.
I’m a little late but I recently purchased a 650i with the m sport package :) not a 3 series but I don’t think I’ll ever go back to anything but German it hasn’t given me any headaches besides my speakers are blown 😑 but I’ll fix them lol 98K miles and still strong 💪🏾
love my 2018 330i...but is it normal to get battery warnings in colder temps? seemed fine when driving around, but as soon as the colder weather hit, my car has been bitching.
Great video Justin!!! I love your modesty!!! Pretty pretty please give me the AlcanyaraBMW performance OE part number... and maybe also the trims around the gear changer and the infotainment button... The carbon on those looks amazing!!!
Regardless what you do, it will always be poor man M3 wannabe :) if you can afford M3, buy M3, don't look for excuses bud. 340i will never be proper M3.
Nah, thanks I'll stick to M3. You buy M3 to have a capable car for anything you throw at it. Be it driving kids to school or tracking at Ring. If you main goal is visual tuning, air ride... Sure you are probably missing the point, and buying M car doesn't make much sense and you should stick to 335/340
Do all 340i have the b58 engine? I never owned a bmw and have always been worried about reliability. I’ve only owned a vw golf gti that was problematic.
the way you film your videos are goals hopefully one day i can get to that level. keep emm coming and you helped me out a lot in building my bmw 440i so thank you 💪💪
The strangest thing when I see guys talk about performance cars in America is the spec. I live in South Africa and all our performance cars such as vw gtis or bmw m-lites etc come standard at a higher spec than your guys versions our base models are probably equivalent to your medium to high end spec it’s really strange to me. It would be interesting to do a comparison in pricing as our car may have a higher minimum price compared to the sates 💁
Hey Justin, you have made me enthusiastic for an F30,only in Europe the 316,x18,x20 are most comon versions. Maybe I should start saving for an nice F30,but the E90 still drives very well. Continue with your amazing videos👊
If you take corners enthusiastically or take off fast from red light to gap someone you'd be foolish to get rwd. Xdrive would be the obvious way to go. I would never ever get a rwd in the north. Been there done that and nope.
Great video! I bought a 2021 X4 M40i last year and chose this over the competition model because of the extreme difference in fuel economy. Question: how does a stage 1 tune affect gas mileage? And, do you know whether the ECU lock out has been cracked on the 2021's?
Just got a 6MT 2018 white with black interior m performance 1. 32,000km on it. After months of pursuing this car I gave up and decided to get a 2017 audi a4 before the dealership got the car ready i reached out to few local remote starter installers and found a guy who can actually do a remote started for manual bmw’s. I checked used bmws online, found this 340i just came in 2 days before and no pics as yet. I had the bmw sales reps cell phone, i called him directly cuz the dealership was closed for the day. He confirmed it was true that car had come in, by 12pm the next day i bought it and cancelled the 2017 Audi deal. I almost bought one before and someone walked in with cash and bought it on my bday (halloween) ruined my whole day. Now booom perfect color i want is all mine. Thank you God!!!! It worked out after all. 👑🛐🙏🏾🏎🚗🙌🏾 I bought it over the phone asa cpo from bmw. 1 year warranty I test drive it tomorrow morning😃🥹
I did the AGA parking brake retainer. It is an aluminium replacement that will never fail again. I am also getting random coolant loss. There are no signs of leakage anywhere.
Love everything about your video and everything always looks sooo clean! I agree about your opinion about the looks, think it's one of the best looking 3 series. As it gets older, its looking better
You can't find one of these for less than CAD $40,000 unfortunately. You could find a high mileage, undesirable spec for high 30s :( N20 it is for me. Maybe I'll be able to afford the G20s in a couple years.
If somebody pickin AWD 340i over the M3 I get it… But there is nothin as skippin somethin thats above the one below… If u buyin 340i rwd instead of M3 Its just money and nothin else and we all know that… Even VWs have LSD and basic 340 doesnt so how can u even compare to the m3 one of the best compact sport sedans in the world man… Comparing M3 the peak of engineering in every aspect against base M paket 3series with a powerfull engine. Thats USA car standards in a nutshell…
Hey, I never said that the two were comparable. All I said was that the 340i is a good value car. If someone out there is lusting for an M3 but only has half the budget, this is a great alternative in my opinion.
I have a 2018 xdrive gran coupe 440i, I have bumper to bumper warranty on it. But it didn’t come with Apple car play; anyway I can sneak it? Turn it off when I ever need any repairs?
On mine I installed something called a Multi Media Interface which is a box that’s installed in the dash and has the Apple Car Play and Android Auto software on it. Im not sure if it can be unlocked with software alone
Definitely agree with the upgrades. Stage 1 tune is pretty good. Don’t need to kill the engine with too much power. Definitely don’t think the car comes with 320 HP. It’s closer to 340 HP stock
320 is the number advertised by BMW but they are known for underrating their engines. When we dyno tested mine stock, it was around 300 HP. Could have been a variance in the actual dyno though.
