@@METR0lD I have no need for it and am happy with the MiSTer core, as all the games I wanna play, play without issues and don't require patching. But it's so pretty I keep telling myself I need it 🤣
@@zarkonesmall For me, I only have my original N64, so this is a huge upgrade for someone like me. My mind breaks when choosing a color. Black looks sleek and stealthy, but white looks clean and pops. Opinion?
If this had some semblance of 'open FPGA', it'd be an absolute must buy for me. As is, it's a harder sell in the "kinda want, but" camp. Financially also the worst possible timing for me, so gonna have to let this one pass for now. Hopefully it'll be around for a bit longer so we can form a clear picture on its capabilities and then still be able to order one.
@@HypnoGenX What is open FPGA in layman terms, I looked it up on Google but still not clear. Is it do you can run other emulation games like ps1 or genesis games?
@@j.d.8160 An FPGA chip can be written to by a developer to do anything they want. In gaming terms that work is usually focused on simulating game consoles. The 'open' part is just Analogue's branding for them giving developers access to the FPGA chip in a device. So far they've only done that with the Pocket. So without them officially announcing OpenFPGA support, that means the Analogue 3D is kinda locked down to only be what they allow it to be. Of course with their history of official-unofficial 'jailbreak' firmware, it's anyone's guess what will actually end up being supported.
It hasn’t sold out yet. Just purchased it myself. I’m waiting for this instead of getting the Chromatic as I do already have FPGBC and the Pocket. I’m pumped. I presume it’ll play 64DD games, and those very odd and fun 64 Arcade games out the gate.
I got mine preordered this morning in white. I've got an RGB modded N64 and an everdrive but I hate the wiring mess from the retrotink 5X and honestly, I just like the clean white aesthetics.
There won't be more cores here because there's no open fpga.. This is a N64 only. Now ill bet that in no time there will be a jailbreak to put all games on the sd card.
@@sanchiani9717 Yes, except on the Analogue pocket that has open fpga and it has cores for almost everything till rhe 16 bit gen and arcades like cps2. All other consoles the jailbreak only allows to play all games for that specific machine
@@sanchiani9717 Open fpga on this hould be amazing since this is more powerful than even the mister fpga but i understand that Analogue wants to keep on releasing diferent consoles.
I’m all in! N64 wasn’t the greatest console but I’ve always appreciated the boldness of Nintendo and what they tried to achieve with the machine. I’ve got two OG N64’s and also got more N64 games than I realised but still want this. I love analogue products shame about shipping and tax charges.
Better be on there the SECOND they go up for sale. Analogue never makes enough to meet demand and this one is probably their most sought after yet. Bet it sells out almost instantly.
It's certainly cool, and the unit itself is damn sexy, but I'll stick with the MiSTer for now. I do have an N64 with a stack of games and an Everdrive, but it's been completely supplanted by the MiSTer since I got it.
"Exceedingly cheap" - I wouldn't word it that way, bud! It may be cheap for you, but impossible to buy for others! But is it really that cheap? It doesn't come with a controller, so if you want to have the complete multiplayer experience you'll have to buy them separately. So you have - console $250 + 4 controllers $160 + conservatively $60 shipping + 20% import charges for most countries = $550+! I wouldn't call that cheap.
I swear this popped into my head earlier today before the announcement. I wonder if the Mister Pi an QM Tech forced Analogue to be more competitive with the pricing. I already have a Mister, but the price and logic elements got me thinking
I believe the demand for it will exceed the pocket, especially at a price of $250, which is significantly more affordable than purchasing a separate mister and 4K upscaler. It can also play cartridges and could possibly get hacked for additional cores! or maybe open fpga.
@@vitaAutLetum "hack" none have been hack, the analogue devs secretly release a firmware that enable ROMs to be play, and the only open core is the one from the pocket. If indeed they open the core, I doubt it very much, it will be an interesting buy other than that it's a hard pass for me.
I keep telling myself I don't want this but the thought of all the graphical goodies and possible features they might implement(turbo?) has me still interested. Even if you hate it you might make money or only lose a little bit. If there was even 1 other system like saturn somehow implemented it would be a homerun for me, and it's still possible I think. No 2.4ghz means I would have to play it wired somehow though as bluetooth is fairly laggy
Not really. We have no idea if the 3D will have openFPGA. If it's like every other Analogue console, it won't. The pocket is their only system with other cores on it. So all this is, is a $250 N64 core that can play cartridges. Which for what it does is still a good purchase. But if the Mars does what they promise, it will still sell.
@@xMaGuSx888 I agree. I do find it pretty amazing that Analogue, with such powerful FPGAs in their systems, don't simply allow it to be an open fpga platform in the first place. I wonder if they just think it will sell more units to have individual console releases.
@@xMaGuSx888 Not quite. Pixel Cherry Ninja was harassed by Pramod who is part of MARS Dev Team. Plus me and other users who commented on MARS Tweet are blocked by MARS on Twitter. Even MARS did came out as what they promised. It won’t sell due to controversy going on unless MARS Team public apologies and move on. Remember, the internet will never forget.
10:10 - Your hunch may be correct and I understand people hang out in discord and discuss certain details that may not always be known to everyone. With Analogue stating "Analogue3D does not support openFPGA," think that's clear it's following the trend set by the Duo. Then some people get confused between OpenFPGA on the Pocket versus additional cores found on the NT mini/Noir or Mega SG with the related adapters. So if we do see additional cores, it will be from Analogue alone in the spirit of the NT mini/Noir and Mega SG with Master System/Game Gear/Colleco. There will be no additional access to the FPGA by third party devs based on their current statement and hardware choices. With the Analogue Duo, some people had high hopes of other cd based cores comes to the console. It didn't happen and users are still waiting on an jailbreak update to match the official core. So I think it's best for people just to base their expectations off of what is known today rather than what may be possible. So everything in the PR release along with reading ROMs off the hardware with a jailbreak is fair. It is possible we may see 64DD support, maybe there could be options for Aleck64 arcade games and if we're real lucky, Wide Boy 64. Though Analogue never supported the Super Gameboy 1 or 2 with the Super NT. Maybe that boils down to the Cyclone V just not having enough LE for those additions or maybe Analogue wants to resell another 4k Super NT console variant in the future. When the price is $250, it hints to me that they won't be real generous with extra cores because they're offering a deal on the hardware.
@@PixelCherryNinja True and I think that's a very fair way to look at the A3D. Analogue hardware can be confusing. People still ask basic questions like what is the Analogue DAC, what does it do and why is it important? So with everything, I think being as clear as possible with what's possible with FPGA hardware is important especially for newcomers that might jump in because of the N64. Otherwise people end up spending money, maybe expecting more and not happy when those features aren't available. Less important for those who've seen Analogue FPGA development over years, get it, and understand the routine. Anyway, my hope is you're correct about the additional cores. They would make a nice addition.
Yeah. All this effort for more accurate CRT emulation and their dedicated DAC remains stuck on systems they don't produce anymore. No 2.4G controller option is also a head scratcher.
Unless someone is a huge fan of N64, has to have 4k and play with original carts, Taki's MiSTer clone is a better deal. Very important for streamers who want to stream 1080p and have analog out to a CRT. Otherwise, it becomes kind of a mess to split the signal, have one 4k source go out for streaming and the other downscaled 4k through a Retrotink 4k to a CRT? Maybe even split it three ways to a 4k OLED, out to streaming and then downscaled to a CRT. Yeah... this becomes messy real fast without the DAC. Analogue is following the Nintendo trend. Nintendo makes the 3DS and removes the 3D with the 2DS. Then they make a Switch without video out and no detachable controllers with the Switch Lite. Now Analogue removes analog video. Ugh..
Ouch yeah, why would they not support 2.4ghz, Are there any controllers that plug into the original port with a 2.4ghz dongle? I have og controllers but can't use them where my couch is right now
I am glad it isnt over $250 with lack of openfpga and with 64 core option like misterpi offer so many cores, also analogue release now is smart, cause when mars fpga project releases, it will be hard to justify buying it.
I want this so bad but of course they wait until I'm dead broke and literally can't afford it to put it up for preorder. Lol! Oh well, next batch it is.
I am distinctly underwhelmed by the case design and, at this point, minimally retooled generic 8bitdo controller. I am however looking forward to technical analysis of the 4K CRT / PVM filters as for a sub-$300 device this is really interesting.
Sorry, one other note: you mentioned the A3D will sell out but this seems more like a preorder similar to the Duo. Usually with preorders they open them up for a set amount of time, take in the preorders and then close them for manufacturing and delivery months later. That should make it so there's not a rush to grab one because inventory isn't based on a set amount which has already been manufactured and is sitting in a warehouse like the special edition Pockets. I agree though, for those who want one, probably best not to sit and wait around. Just means if someone isn't available at the exact time to order one, hopefully they won't sell out in 5 minutes. At least, that was my interpretation of their preorder system for the A3d. Maybe I'm wrong.
Nice to see that someone said this as I wasn’t if someone would, other than limited editions or preorders during Covid their preorders have lasted for a decent period of time. The duo only had 1 preorder period(unless I’m mistaken) but the nt mini noir & the pocket both had like 3(noir was a limited edition so was only going to have 2 but the demand caused them to release another limited quantity preorder)
the former, the latter is only true if it is accurate enough, being a bitstream loaded into an FPGA doesn't magically make it better, there are trade offs to software simulation vs hardware emulation.
Could someone educate me, if the resolution is upscaled to 4k, wont it still be incredibly jaggy? Because there's no kind of smoothing or other graphical enhancements similar to like an mclassic, right? I believe just some kind of imitation scan lines, no?
Imitation phosphors/mask. It is likely to look better than a typical scan line implementation. But we don't have it in our hands, so that's all speculation on my part. Theoretically a device could be made that presented a low resolution virtual coordinate system to the game, but rendered to a higher resolution render target. Like running an N64 emulator. It is 3D, after all. But I kinda doubt that with what they've said in their marketing for this device.
I own the 4k Gamer Plus. Technology the device is it's own GPU sort of. I'm using it on a PC to save myself from upgrading it. I play all my games in 1080p with 60hz since that is the requirement for the Upscaler to work. I'm playing everything in 4k 60fps using this method without upgrading my PC. No lag since the device is it's own GPU.
I can't understand the market for this when roms are easily accessible and since you own the games already its "ok". Why risk damaging them? Not to mention we already have cheaper options for fpga like Taki's.
going to jp next month, perfect timing to hopefully pick up some cheaper stock on my travels. 30w power!!! hopefully theres something reliable we can use as an alternative for UK plugs, maybe the switch charger could do the job. anything to avoid using a travel adaptor. gonna try to get 2 units, one for me and a colleague, just have to decide on the colours...
@@fowler0028 more of a "what existing charger that i already own could work" maybe i'm weird but i have a lot of type c chargers and cables already considering i buy electronics and usually leave the charger in the box if i already have something similar plugged in the wall. its just a bit annoying cus the mega sg and super nt ran easily off low power usb (with the damn legacy micro usb port)
@@intilagos-brown5232 I’m sure you’ll have a suitable one in a drawer/plugged in somewhere/etc, I recently got the Taki Udon Mister clone(put together but not setup the sd card) which I think also says 30W and I plan to use the Steam Deck charger which I currently use with the Steam Deck and the Analogue Pocket in its dock.
@@PixelCherryNinja digging more it looks like the 8bitdo pad doesnt have an accessory slot. rumble is built in. but the system itself has memory pak support built in. but you will have to back up any saves using an original pad to transfer them over. if its pokemon stadium i guess you'll need an original pad plugged in with the transfer pak.
Keep in mind this won't support OpenFPGA. In that sense, there aren't external people who are hacking, modding or hackmodding Analogue consoles. The jailbreaks are extra features used in development usually by Kevtris - the main engineer - which are eventually released to the public as jailbreaks. Really it's just a way for Analogue to sidestep issues with ROMs and it's a nice bonus for customers. The only time Analogue has released non OpenFPGA cores, it's been with the NT mini/Noir due to the cost and with the Mega SG and cart adapters along with Coleco as a bonus. Super NT and Duo had no additional secondary cores. Well, I guess the Duo had Supergrafx but they didn't go above and beyond including PC-FX. N64 did have the Wide Boy and 64DD so maybe Analogue will decide to release support as you mentioned. Or maybe like the Super Gameboy 1/2, they'll decide, nope, $250 for a 4k console is worthy of N64 alone without any other bells and whistles.
Interesting, though be wary on that hardware. Just because it's impressive doesn't mean you can get other cores on there. Must bite a bit seeing as the MiSTer costs have crashed with QM Tech and Taki Udon boards.
@@blarghblargh mister core is imperfect however, its fine for commercial ROMs if you don't care about accuracy, but can't run most homebrew, supposedly this core is accurate enough to support libdragon homebrew so it must be close to the actual hardware

Yep, there'll be an extended delay on the pre-order, then a week after it ships Analogue will announce a special translucent edition available for immediate despatch, just to piss off those who showed support and waited patiently for a regular version.
Never buy something on the promise of delivering more later. All the biggest tech RU-vidrs say that. Only buy this if you want this for what it is definitely going to be, a luxury N64. Anything more is gravy.
The MiSTer core is awesome, and plays all my favourites without requiring any patches. Although this product may not be for everyone, it definitely serves the need of many out there.
