As a kid I used the NES Advantage over the regular gamepad for pretty much everything. This really takes me back and I can't wait to snag one! Thanks for the video!
It's funny because back when the NES came out the only thing I couldn't stand were gamepads since I grew up with joysticks and the arcades. This stick does resemble the Advantage but this thing is built like a tank. I couldn't believe how heavy and durable it was. I was able to connect it to everything from my PC to my emulator frontend on my Android TV box. It's really good quality that really surprised me.
I respect 8Bitdo more than any first party controller at this point. Quite a different reality than 20ish years ago, when all we had were the likes of MadCatz and Super Pad 64.
There's really no need to show it on a Pi, he showed it working easily on windows and it's an Xinput device, so it'll work just like an Xbox controller does on any system running RetroPie (easily).
i don't like the design of this controller, and would have loved something like a X-Arcade with battery and wireless mode. but people end up saying all sort of stuff that wireless is bad for latency. I never experience issues with Playstation or Xbox controllers, so don't know what this fuzz is about. I ended up buying two of these controllers as they seems to have great features, and they are not even that expensive.
I have an open HDMI input on my TV system. I'd like to play old Atari games and other old emulation games and use this controller. What is an easy/compatible/best thing to use as the computer? Is there a computer that has everything I'd need that works with this controller? Maybe Raspberry Pi or should I get something that has Windows 10? Also - Can two (2) of these controllers be used at the same time in multiplayer? I'd like to play the old Atari 2600 tank game multiplayer.
I doubt you'll read this comment but i wanted to request that you check out this controller called gamesir g4 pro? I want to hear your thought's about it and if it's even worth buying or just buy something else
I'm imagining 2 of these lined up on a desk Infront on a huge TV screen with street fighter running in Vs mode... Oh I miss those competitions in trocadero at picadilly circus.
:D I used to hang out in Namcoworld on Great Windmill St (I think?) in the late 90's and watch the 'pro's battle each other on the big screen arcades. I miss that too.
As a heads up, it's actually not compatible with most Seimitsu sticks without potentially modifying the case to make them fit, do your research before you buy.
Will it connect to one of the 2.4ghz receivers that come with the 8bitdo n30 controller to make it compatible with an original nes or Analogue nt mini?
Does the 2.4GHZ adapter work with 8BITDO's other 2.4Ghz controllers such as SNES? (The 2.4GHZ SNES Controller that I have came with an SNES adapter.). Their 2.4GHZ is better than bluetooth due to less lag.
I would install a sanwa JLF lever with either a ball-top or a bat-top on it, an eight-way restrictor plate and hayabusa buttons into the 8BitDo PC/Switch arcade stick controller.
Will two of them work on a raspberry pi 4 with dongles? I know they are expensive but It would be cool to know for a store that is looking at buying a RPI hooked up to a tv with two of these on wireless.
Hey ETA, can you do a roundup video of all your BT/2.4gHz gamepad style controllers? It would be great to see a comparison and find out which ones are your personal favorites. I just bought a XBone controller during the recent black Friday sales, but I've also been interested in the 8bitdo ones, the Steel Series Stratos Duo, and a new one called the Bionik Vulkan I've seen on Best Buy.
Hello, I'm from Bulgaria and I've watched most of your videos, they are very interesting and educational, I have a little difficulty how exactly to drive a 3.5 display for retro pie, I tried different methods and it doesn't work. Thank you.
I was very impressed and happy with this product. It might look like the NES Advantage with far more buttons but it's not built cheap like those were. The buttons and the controller are very 90's SNK/Neo-Geo like. Clicky, clicky. It's heavy duty and super durable. Feels like a tank. I got this for travel since I can't haul my my home built arcade around. I got it to connect to Emuelec frontend on my Android TV box by treating it as a PC and making it recognize it as an XBOX 360 controller. Very impressive piece of hardware. Far better quality than I expected. I was going to go with the Sony quanda drone but went with this instead because it's wireless option. So glad I did.
Seems like a really nice quality controller. The fact that they made the effort to have it be compatible with as many different device types as possible just shows where it is better in value to most controllers at that price. One thing I am curious about is whether it is compatible with the other 2.4 Ghz adaptors that 8bit Do have released. If so, then you would be able to use it also with systems like original consoles if you also had the adaptors for those systems.
Im planning on buying it. If I use X-input on PC are the buttons swapped as well? I know it lights up and switches the AB, XY but when your on PC does it do that in game? I don't want to press A when it's supposed to be B.
I don't see a point to this, you can get a Brook ultimate fight board, and any joystick setup, and it will run on PC/PS3/PS4/PS5/Xbox 360/Xbox one/Xbox X/Switch. it can also be wireless and it has audio support to plug headphones into the fight stick. and supports touchpad...
That looks like an awesome controller. The aesthetics remind me of my NES Advantage I had way back when. $90 bucks doesn't seem so bad either, given a PS5 controller runs $70 these days. Might have to pick one up!
Hey ETA, could we get a revisited 3400G Emulation test video? It's almost been 1 and a half year since the last one and not only have emulators gotten better, you also got better at testing and showcasing different games, with better monitoring tools.
Great review. Quick question to anyone that may know. On the product page on Amazon, it says that it is compatible with Windows (Steam), will this arcade stick be compatible with games that only require an Xbox controller?
Yes. I own multiple 8bitdo controllers and in XInput mode they all work without issue on non-Steam games. And with the explicit mode selector on this model you won't have issues with forgetting the button combo to switch modes.
The s/x switch allow this controller to be recognized as a Nintendo Switch or XBOX controller for your PC/Android/PI devices. Of course you want it on the x switch and hit the pair button for 3 seconds. Worked for me on different devices.
I would like to understand how to set it up in Recalbox (Raspberry Pi) On the Arcade Stick, how should I position the 2 "main" buttons (top left)? 1) switch mode: switch / off/ X-input? (obviously to switch off the stick, you must position this button on "off") 2) control stick switch: left-stick - d-pad - right-stick (I have absolutely no idea what this is all about) And in Recalbox, how do you configure this stick? (I know the "joysticks" and "configure a joystick" menu, but then?)
Anyone have any advice for how to get this to work with my iMac? This is the second review I read that says they got it to work despite not being officially supported, but I tried it hard-wired and tried pairing it with bluetooth and neither so far has worked. It works great with my Switch and Series X (via Brook Wingman XB) but all my MAME and emulated games are my desktop.
Do you know if this arcade stick works with the Genesis Mini (Hakchi/Retroarch)? I play arcade roms on my Genesis Mini and I want to buy an arcade stick that will work with it.
I was wondering if you know of or how to create a usb drive that can emulate a controller for sticks that need one to be plugged in to use for that console. Maybe like a one stick and have it for all. The stick I'm asking for impartially is the madcatz ego. Plays ps4, switch and Xbox one, but requires a 1st party controller, which was fine at first. But im sure there's a better solution.
Have you tried it on Retroarch on Nvidia Shield TV for arcade games? I paired it with my shield tv and realized that it is a pain to setup this controller in Retroarch. Retroarch pairs it as XBOX ONE controller and button layout are totally different, so I really have a difficult time to map those buttons for arcade buttons layout. Also I noticed that it has very major latency problem when playing arcade games with Retroarch in Nvidia Shield TV. I noticed it when pair with Bluetooth mode but haven't tried it with cable mode.
ETA Prime you are amazing...does your laptop handle Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite well? which model is that? I am hoping to build something for my man cave and not sure what my best option is
The bluetooth mode on the Android tablet seems horrendously laggy. We can literally see you doing a quarter circle motion for hadouken and it actually happening way, WAY later.
