Dave agree on all your points. Another point to consider is that there are a lot of vain movie stars in Hollywood today. Now I’m not saying RDJ is one of them, but as a global movie superstar, he would expect his face to be visible up there on the big silver screen. He got the best of both worlds playing Tony Stark/Iron Man, but is he going to be happy spending the majority of the Doom film with his face hidden behind the Doom mask? We’ll probably get to see RDJ’s face in a flashback where Doom becomes Doctor Doom, but it wouldn’t surprise me if RDJ gets to lift the mask a few times in the movie, just to show off that superstar smile of his, thus ruining the ethos of the character simply because Marvel are paying RDJ the big bucks to have his name attached to the project. Marvel would have been better off casting an unknown actor who would have happily settled for a few minutes of face screen time before his face was hid behind the mask, never to be seen again!

When the Marvel Creative Committee was still in place, they made sure that the movies were faithful to the comics. This was apparent in the first Iron Man behind-the-scenes documentary. Marvel Studios itself was founded on the idea of being faithful to the source material. This was before Disney bought Marvel. Then the Committee was dissolved and Fiege had full control. If a director was a fan of the comics, it was considered a "red flag" and Marvel Studios would choose someone else.

I think at this point Disney and Marvel are just trying to stay true to the comics. And by that I mean the comic industry. Shit out event after event, introduce new terribly written characters that nobody likes, and kill off your main characters over so you can bring them back. Pretty soon they’re going to figure out a way to make a movie in holofoil and come out with theater exclusive endings.

I'm going to be a little more optimistic about the future than most. It was a giant positive when Bob Iger said they're going to produce less, but better content. Not only should the quality improve, but it also enables them to focus on main characters rather than trying to promote D-listers. X-Men 97 showed that they do have the capability to create good, compelling story arcs.

This is probably two of many changes the MCU will make in the coming months and years…. I think this a very positive move for the MCU

I know ... let's put all of our eggs in a single basket and hope the multiverse will pull our fat from the fire. All sense of continuity was lost with time travel and the multiverse concept and RDJ is not big enough to fix that.

I love Downey but when it was announced I was like him? Why? Wow they are desperate now. I know actors can play different roles, but like he said he “is Iron Man.” This isn’t Evans and that random torch role he did. I don’t know if I can look past Downey as Iron Man in that role in the MCU. It’s iconic. There was no one else? Really? Also, Doom is gonna get beat by who? Who are the next Avengers? Based on the TV shows that list is laughable. So Doom is gonna get beat by Disney’s message then? They’re scrambling trying to figure out something to bring people back to the theaters, because what they’ve been doing the past years hasn’t worked at all. Doom pulled out Thanos’ spine and skull, Thanos without the gauntlet, in the comics. So you’re gonna tell me Ms. Marvel, Cap Sam, etc. are gonna do this? Yea…ok.

Agree. Agree. Agree. I hope that the execs at the MCU listen to you. It is a superhero movie based on comics. Go to a comic book shop and look at the type of people buying comics. Create the movies for them. Look at the photos of 1976 lineups of clientele (guys) waiting hours to watch Star Wars. Create Star Wars movies for them. There is no shortage of talent in Hollywood; I get why they wanted to cast him, but still, they shouldn't have. And there are still Avengers aplenty to take him on. Don't forget that we still have Hulk, Thor, Hawkeye, Dr. Strange and Spider-man. Sounds like a half-way decent team to me. Plus, they're adding the Fantastic Four and X-Men (probably). And probably not a popular opinion, I know, but ... I actually liked Shang Chi (with the rings, he's a force).

We wanted to see the marvel character come to life and that has happened. If they still want billion dollar movies, than yeah they will not be saved. But RDJ is an incredible actor he can bring Dr. Doom alive in a unique way others cannot. If we cannot get over him being only Iron Man then this will not work.

Deadpool & Wolverine has broken every record possible for an R-rated movie this weekend, so pretty sure no 'saving' is needed. Sometimes being contrarian to be contrarian reeks, but I can appreciate why you might need to do it. I think a lot of people with zero knowledge of comics other than buying them for less and selling for more are seriously confused right now, and it will make sense as we move forward. Dave,alot of the marvel movies suck.We need a new Punisher and a Maximum Carnage movie based on the comics would be awesome if it is done right. The Deadpool and Wolverine movie was awesome and I think it's better then the last two. It has a lot of funny moments in it and if you haven't seen it yet Dave,it's worth watching cause it is by far one of the best movies this year.

I agree that Feige has to go, but the Russos have enough creative control behind the camera that I'm not worried about the two upcoming Avengers movies. I am however, more concerned about the Fantastic Four. Doom should debut in FF, not the Avengers.

So pessimistic lol. Having RDJ back is amazing! He basically MADE the MCU…after end game…MCU went down hill…couple decent movies…but by and large it was bad. I think people will critique no matter who was doom…they would of 😂 Downey said on Rogan he wouldn’t come back unless the writing and script was good…which I believe. I don’t think he would come back to bad writing or story. I’m optimistic honestly…hear that crowd when he revealed himself? That says it all. Who knows what will happen. Me and my friend were having a debrief about Deadpool & Wolverine yesterday,and our discussion lead to Dr Doom casting. Totally shocked that they announced his casting pretty much after our convos. We had no idea that the announcement was coming. He made a great suggestion for Doom. Henry Cavill! Marvel really screwed the pooch on this one. Even worse is that this movie is coming out with minimal setup for THE most important villain in the Marvel universe. Between this and Gunn's Superman that will flop,I think this might really be the point where we see a definite decline of comic book movies. As for Feige,I don't think he's really calling all of the shots anymore. I've said it plenty of times on other forums,the MCU's biggest mistake was not rebooting the universe after Endgame. FF and X-Men should've been what started the new MCU.

Nope. RDJ is NOT Doctor Doom. As Tony Stark said in Endgame... he "is Iron Man!". This feels like a desperation Hail Mary attempt from Feige. And I'm already not liking the vibe I feel from the upcoming MCU FF movie if Norrin Radd is not the Silver Surfer. Also don't feel confident about the future MCU X-Men (or the re-named "The Mutants") either.
