all your insipid hope aside: I think the truth is, is that this is a being/person who is sucking your blood life, bit by bit without you entirely knowing you know it happens. But really, breaking it down, this person thing doesn't represent what you are absolutely dealing with to a hundred percent; they are actually not those people you think ; instead, are murderer activist liers who take what they can from your good and leave barely a morsel left for you, in actuality... the plus side, is that I'm here. Yes! It's a beautiful feeling, and it makes sense given the effect his music has had on so many of us. He was just having fun when Colbert asked him if his songs were little animas he sends out into the world, but I think that really is a good way to look at it. For over two-thirds of my life I've had his songs triggering my brain to release the same sorts of chemicals that are behind our sensations of familal and romantic love, and because I do feel very bonded to this music that's an extension of him, I also really care about him as a person despite our being strangers. Plus he just presents himself with such genuineness and a great sense of humor that makes him very lovable to me. I think he's truly happy with all that he's doing in his life right now, and that makes me truly happy as well.

There's nothing more English than being in one of the most important bands of the last 25 years, and yet still be so modest and shy and low key about. An American rock star might come out and get the crowd going and big themselves up and act cocky. Its such a different mentality. Thom embodies that perfectly here.

Comments to Thom Yorke interviews are always the same, everyone assumes the man will be miserable and depressing but then he never is. Even in his older interviews where he seems more snappy, he's just asserting himself when he feels it's necessary - Thom figured out the media early on. He was always polite and gentlemanly, he was just honest and vocal when they asked baited or stupid questions and I love that about him. He spoke once about a Lou Reed interview where he was acting the same...telling the interviewer to stop asking dumb questions - Thom's words were "You've got Lou f'n Reed sat next to you and you're asking him that?" Absolute legend, so modest, too.

@ShellysAshes
@ShellysAshes 4 года назад
“Cliff edge” is a term of perception though. Someone who is pro EU would describe it as such. Someone who is anti would describe being part of the EU negatively. Ultimately, in a democratic society you do have to follow “the will of the people” whether you like that decision or not. It sucks to be on the losing side, especially when the chance of making amends isn’t going to come in a few mere years, but that’s the reality of democracy.
@fillbrin
@fillbrin 4 года назад
@@ShellysAshes The problem might be to approach democracy as a sport I think. The 'losing side' will be everybody, or the 'winning side' will be everybody. Thinking that winning or losing when talking about the future of a whole country (and many countries maybe) is about being with 'the majority' (50, 60 pct) is a particular point of view, not the best in a democracy I think, because you still have >40pct of the people disagreeing on such an important subject. As an external bystander, I agree that there is a need to go through the process of brexit, because not doing it at this point, could break the system even more. But in the mid-term, the people might find themselves staring at a very miserable situation after leaving. Pro-EU? Anti-EU? Pretty soon that will be irrelevant, but the problems might continue and get even worse, so everybody will lose; or things might go well, and everybody wins. Maybe I am circling too much, but my point is that there is no 'sides' really

@User-lr5zt
@User-lr5zt 4 года назад
@fillbrin it's been pretty conclusively shown that the "sides" in all this consist of, on one side, rational, concerned citizens who understand how being part of a larger union gives a mostly harmless, increasingly irrelevant country vastly more influence and opportunity in a hostile global marketplace, and on the other side, obscenely rich, privileged, tax avoiders who have weaponised the insecurity and/or racism of a depressingly large disenfranchised subpopulation, into helping them force a blatantly self-destructive manoeuvre through parliament, in order to continue being able to shield their hidden wealth which the the EU was about to stop. The majority of people on both sides will lose big time if it happens, it's only the sociopathic gazillionnaires at the top who will be fine, but then they'll also be fine if it doesn't happen, just not as fine as they feel entitled to be.
