In this fourteenth installment of our quarterly series, Philosophers in the Midst of History, I discuss the life, thought, and importance of Thomas Aquinas in his historical context. Thomas was from a minor noble family, studied with the Benedictines, and then joined the relatively new Dominican Order, in which he rose to become a teacher of major significance. In the lecture, I discuss the importance and nature of the new Mendicant orders.
