Nice video. I would like to add that the Kastmaster was 1/4 ounce and the Thomas was 1/6th. This does make a difference if you're looking for consistency for an experiment like this. The Thomas does also come in 1/4oz. I personally, would have used the same weight on each lure to make them as similar as possible. I do own Kastmasters, and a couple different Thomas', and my personal experience is that's they're both great lures, but it just depends on the action the fish are responding to at the moment. I have walked streams with the Kastmaster and been without a single bite, would switch to my Thomas Rough Rider, or EP spoon, and "suddenly" get a fish on the first cast with it. At the same time, I have also had my Kastmaster repeatedly hit after a cast before I can even start to reel it (albeit, it was right after stocking). Bottom line... Get both, give yourself some variety or at the very least a reliable back up should you unfortunately snag up and lose one.
Two of my favourites brand for spinners.... no doubt mepps material quality and finishing are one step ahead of blue fox... but fair enough .. u got what u pay... pls do a battle in stream fishing mate

LOVED this video! For one, I didnt know you could use a weight to get a spoon deeper into the water column [I will definitely start doing that!!] And I really enjoyed the challenge between well known (classic) lures. I hope you do more of this. Lots of fun.
The way I see it, the Tommy B was the winner because if you had been holding the rod, you probably would have had better hook sets. And I like to root for the underdog :)
two of my all time favorite spoons. Kastmaster has produced more numbers, but the Thomas has produced my PB at 12 lbs. How about a jointed rapala versus a countdown?
I've had good luck fishing Thomas Bouyant lures like spinners in creeks and rivers here in Montana. There's been plenty of days they outfished Panther Martins and Blue Fox spinners.

I've been successful with both lures. Great vid! The only knock I have is that they fish differently with different retrieve / trolling speeds. Bouyants require a slower retrieve to trigger more strikes. Should also match color and brightness of the sun.
From my experience the red speckled gold Thomas Bouyants work the best but you must troll them very slowly. The trolling speed (judging from the paddling pace) appears to be too fast. To determine the best speed, watch the tip of your line - you want to see your rod tip swagger ever so slightly. If it moves too fast, slow down your trolling speed. I have also noticed most of my takes occur when I'm turning/changing direction which causes the lure to slow down even more and get a little deeper..
I'd like to see Kastmaster vs. Kastmaster. Same exact lure, no time limit, only difference is treble hook on one and replacement in line single hook on the other. No time limit, wait till both lures have had 20 bites and see what percentage of those bites land in the boat.

I think the next video is a pretty easy choice. Take one of your new Addicted boxes from Costco and rig up a rod with it. Then try to find a Steelhead to catch. Better yet try to find water that isn't blown out on a short little costal stream. Now there is a challenge, at least here in Oregon.🇺🇸
Ah, my original home lands (White Salmon)... I've jumped off that rock multiple times. Used to love catching perch on the edges as a kid. Out in Idaho now doing some killer upper Snake River trout fishing. Really enjoying your videos. Very entertaining and informative.
Just so you know, the "Buoyant" in "Thomas Buoyant" means that it floats. The definition of Buoyant is able to stay afloat. If the fish are deeper, it would make more sense to use the kastmaster. Great vid.

I’m a kastmaster guy and my coworker is a buoyant strong believer, I’ve never fished with a bouyant yet, because I’ve had so much success with my kastmasters……. I was hoping that you would have extended your video an extra 30 minutes or so since the fishing was so good….. keep up the good work!!
For me, the wacky worm was the can’t-fail bait for me. This year, even that isn’t producing. Probably the heat. The Kastmaster, 1/4 and 3/8 oz has been a consistent winner ever since I started using them, and they’ll catch almost anything. I’ve caught pike, bass, perch, walleye, trout, and salmon. Any time of day, any temperature. Good for open water, good on the ice. Can’t say enough about them. If I had to complain about something, slightly more than usual the fish unhooks itself. Maybe upgrade the hooks? Not enough of a problem to bother though.
Hey there! great video on spoons. Your technics and advise helped me catch some of the biggest trouts of my life. I have a question about the weather, i have been monitoring the waves, wind and temperature before going out fishing. I shore fish and this weekend its showing the water level will be low, positive temperature, but very windy and rainy. Are these conditions good for trout fishing?
GReat video! I live in south Louisiana and want to troll deeper water for summer time bass with Kastmaster / thomas buoyant spoons. what rigging would you suggest to troll. How do you control depth for those spoons???? I would be trolling in a hobie outback (pedal drive).
I'd give the win to the Thomas Buoyant for sure. To me, this competition was seeing which lure would get more fish (speaking of strikes and nibbles), so it's a clear victor here. It gained more interest in the end.
Thomas Lures makes some great spoons. I like the buoyant a lot, but their Colorado is right up there with the Eppinger Dardevle as my all time favorite trout spoon.
Kastmaster for the win. Back on the little island i grew up on we would fish blue and silver kastmasters for trevally. Absolutely slam them. Another cool video 👍🏼
Kastmaster got me 31 in one outing this year. It was one color green and only like 2 hours lol almost all had that same hook up bottom jaw for whatever reason 🙌🏼👏👌
WOW!! That was a fast hits on the cast master lure, I've tried in saltwater and it's so effective even the spoon.... does the cast master work on salmon in fresh water??.... I haven't tried.
Gonna have to pick up a Buoyant, don't currently own one. I have the Kastmasters and have had good success with them. No use getting locked in though. Great video as usual. Keep 'em coming!
been fishing Brookies with both lures for many years up in Northern Quebec. the white and yellow buoyant crushes and I have little luck with the blue/silver kastmasater. not saying one is better than other but for that area, buoyant rules when trolling with the two.
