So, 2 years ago I went on the Thomas fan pilgrimage to Drayton Manor to see the original TV series props. I was disheartened to see the condition they were kept in to say the least, and I hope this video highlights some of that. I do hope that the most important props from the TV series are kept in the best condition possible, possibly by restoring them or keeping them as static displays if necessary. In any case, I hope you enjoy seeing footage of the original TV series models, and I apologise for the poor camera and filming quality - I really need to learn to slow down and take care in future.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video as much as I enjoyed making it.

I think Drayton mannor should close the diaplay and repair the models or give them to some one who knows how to fix them tbh I don't think they should be running anyway

Kyle Broflovski ur right give them to the museum in Japan with season 1 Gordon and others because they are in kinda excellent condition only a little scratches and only a few small parts that fallen off but otherwise they’ll be the best care takers

They are now repainted and restored icluding thomas terence rosie edward ect and bustrode has given his unused happy face and he has fish on his cargo hole

Kyle Broflovski agreed, they should honestly give them to the Hara Model Railway Museum. They take much better care of the models.

TheCreepersGood some of Hara’s models are also broken. Bill’s back has come off (exposing his motor), Oliver’s hand rail is broken, Percy’s whistle is gone, Edward, Henry and Gordon’s axle boxes are gone, and Harold has no mouth.

The red E2 production eel well it’s not like Stepney is secretly returning in CGI in season 24 or 25 and either it isn’t confirmed yet or they’re gonna keep him as a surprise.

I went to Drayton Manor in the summer of 2018 and was very disappointed that Stepney wasn’t there. Oh well, I hope they get restored and fixed soon! (It’s unlikely, but we can hope and wish)

longmont trains Have you ever heard of ThomasTankMerch? They restored Duke, Sir Handel, Rusty and James but they had to repair it, it may not be “original” but they do better then Drayton manor

I just went to Thomas Land yesterday and I checked and the models have been kept in great condition. During covid they have redone the layout completely. With new buildings an airport with tiger moth and more stations. There is also a shed where the model of D2 61 is being kept by the harbour where bulstrode is. I live very close to Drayton manor so I can visit often. Keep up the good work with your model series. Oliver

Thanks for your comment. I do hope the models remain in good condition, but I think its too early to say. Even some of the things they've already done like using Black Tack as pupils for George, or using parts from Molly to fix Thomas are pretty bad ways to keep the display running. If they want to keep me and many others happy they will need to prove they can listen to fans and rectify issues with the models as they come, not 10 years later. Honestly either ThomasTankMerch or the non profit organization “Restore Thomas” should have those models. If you guys haven’t heard. “Restore Thomas” is an organization by a group of people that I’m involved in. We aim to make replicas based on the show or restore the original props used in the show.

In my opinion, Drayton manor should make replicas of the models while the originals are restored and retired for good so they can just be for display anyone agree

Think about it, there are 2 models, Duke and sir Handel which are the same age as these engines at Drayton manor. However, they are in pristine condition while these models look like theyve been running for years and years on end. Not to mention Dukie and sir handle are both in possession of a fan and not a professional theme park

Good news the models got restored and repainted like bustrode stepney bulgy edward rosie terence toad got a face ect And they added new props like class 40 daisy molly hank mighty mac old slow coach rocky cranky thumper ect

Some were restored it seems, but adding new, older props is not a good thing. The sun damage, leaks, and continuous running will kill these new models just as they killed the old ones.

While some of the models have been restored, I have no doubt that in time they'll eventually become just as degraded and broken as before. They have swapped out a few of the non-salvageable engines such as Stepney (who's probably never going to be seen again) and put in new characters, some of which were still built in the 90s. These props should not be put on constant display and running all the time. They've already suffered some damage since they were last seen. I can't go into it all here, but while they look nice enough right now, they will go the same way as the others soon enough and even more priceless props will be destroyed.

@@CW56 No, I don't think any models were sold. Drayton Manor doesn't own any of these models, they're the property of Mattel but Drayton has permission to display them. It's most likely that those models are in storage somewhere.

I just went like 4 weeks ago and they’ve repaired all of them and there is new ones like mighty Mac, molly and hank.

They have been repaired a bit, bit unfortunately they have done it very poorly. For example, they took the lamp irons off one engine to put them on Thomas, and they used Black-tak to make eyes for george, but black-tak will stain his model. Also, leaving these very old models in a room with exposure to the sun will cause the sun to fade their paint, and many of these models are one of a kind. I hope they hire some qualified people to restore and care for these models soon.

No, these are the original models from the show. Hara does have some models, but not all of them. They are scattered in a few places, and some of the props at Drayton are one of a kind originals from the 90s, such as Daisy and Stepney.

Actually these are original TV series models. They were all seen on screen in some episodes. That model of stepney is the original one from 1994 or so
