I honestly think Kim is/was one of the absolute best Gospel Singers of all time. I’m not a huge fan of the “extra”, but it’s the culture, and not many can do what she can do with her voice!
Had the original album that this song was on I had the good fortune to find it in 1984 while living in California.and would listen to this song all the time sadly I lost it and all my other albums and cd's during Hurricane Katrina in 2006. I've never heard anyone male are female deliver a song like Kim McFarland did on it Thanks TCS this song is still one of the best gospel songs EVER!!!!!!!!!
This is Gospel singing from one of God servent. No doubt that is blessed to be born with this talent. It's in her ❤️ mind and soul. Gospel singing, churches and people have really changed. Many have forgotten about where they came from. Not realizing it can and will change in seconds
Her voice is an instrument. So glad to see Mrs. Kim is still holding it down. After all of these years she still sings it with strong conviction.. She is amazing.
I was 11 back in the early 90's sitting in a recorded concert as my sister Godmother Annie B was singing in the choir back then and she would take us to practice with her and to church and im 43 Wow Mrs Kim still singing in the choir she probably was in her early late 20 or early 30 when i meet her

In Christendom today, to find a choir like this one was back in the day, is few and far between. You all inspired a whole generation of us whole looked forward to singing, leading a song, or directing. Thank you so much for your labour of love and in sharing your gifts to us.
I am a lifelong Tommies fan. There is nothing wrong with this rendition or her voice. She is a skilled and trained singer. I'm not a vocal coach so I don't know the state of her vocal cords or if they've been injured over the years. Anything is possible. I'm just amazed at the comments regarding what the anointing is or isn't. I don't know Kim McFarland-Anderson personally nor do I know how old she was when the song was originally recorded or how old she is in this video. Without me pulling out the album, it has to be 25 years or so. How could anyone reasonably expect it to sound the same? That assertion is ridiculous. Does Walter Hawkins sound the same on Love Alive 4 as he did on Love Alive 1? Does Tremaine sound the same on Changed as she does on Holy One? My initial sermon preached over 20 years ago doesn't have the depth of my preaching now. I'm older, wiser, and I know the word of God on a different level. I was anointing then and I'm anointed now. And yes, my voice has changed. I could go on.
Dont sound bad to me. I don't care for all of the screaming at the end. That's one of the things I loved about Kim. She didn't do all that screaming. Her voice is still stellar and sounds better than a lot of these new jacks.
She really did well here; I feel like her sound here is a lot like her sound on her original recording! Though she did a fair amount of squealing here, she used better technique than in some other performances lately.
+Rashad Amand I understand exactly what you mean. The last times I heard it, she sung her face off but her voice was not cooperating with her. Even when she's hoarse, though, she can preach/sing through a song. I was glad she was in great voice here and I KNOW she was glad! :-)
Ok i am upset with some folk on here with negitive commets first of all how do u know it wasnt the anointing. She may have been dealing wit some symptoms in her thorat please be careful dont judge she still sounds good to me.
I was listening to the org. recording here at my computer rocking back and fourth with great ministry from her ...but..er..ra...on this one ...she put 'show time' in the song and messed the anointing up with too many runs and voice tricks ...very musically entertaining but the anointing is not the same #justsaying lol
I completely agree...As a Psalmist, I feel that the focus should always be about The Lord. I find that if I minister to God...He will minister to the people. The message of the song can get lost in the vocal acrobats, Sometimes keeping it simple is more effective. Love Ms. Kim McFarland's voice... :)
Ezra Bufford that's what frustrates me about her. She has always done this...she's still doing the 70's and 80's church ad libs. Her voice is absolute perfection! Her style is absolutely annoying at times. I wish she would clean it up a bit...it's not like she needs to take the note down to hit it...she can hit them all! I still go crazy when I hear her voice, regardless of how much her style annoys me.
I'm going back to look for the album version. I already thought she was doing too much in the live recording back in the day, but she destroyed this song here, and not in a good way. She was performing and not Worshipping.👎
Ezra Bufford I agree also! We all know she can slay a song but in the original was just pure innocent annointing.....this was definitely entertainment.
Yes it is too much...but I think she does it because she can't hit the notes as clear as she once could so she is overcompensating....that's why we drop keys in my choir 😁
AJ Juicy she's not straining...she's got an annoying style. She can hit all those notes with ease. I think when she sings she hears an old male non-singing preacher in her head or something. She's got a very high pitched voice and phenomenal breathing/strength, and doesn't need to strain to hit those notes. I agree with you on the sound...I don't like it.
AJ Juicy Yes she is...I wonder if she used to smoke or maybe had nodules? Because it seems that all the other soloists' have held up well over the years and they are able to still sing in the original keys just as they once did: Tina, Robin, Leanne, and Denise were just as good as the 80s and 90s....so I wonder if Mom had some vocal problems or smoked like Lynette Hawkins-Stephens which caused her to lose her vocal range?🤔
I agree. Way too much. Kim has such a pure voice with great range. She was very balanced with this song twice. 1. On the original album of course. 2. The live VHS recording they did in the light blue robes. She did some runs in the live recording but it was very balanced with pure straight on delivery. In this you tube video..had I been in that service...I could have gone to Wendys for a double cheese with bacon, fries AND. A fosty and ate it, and when I got back Kim would still be on the intro of the song.
Imissingu2001 naw, it's not that she's been smoking or not holding up over the years...she's just doing too much, which is really unnecessary. But she wanted to take a different approach from how she originally did it.
L 811 Kim is doing just fine. I just conversed with her a month ago on my instagram page because I sang this song and she commented on it. A good friend of my family and I grew up listening to her and many other vocalist :)
