Highlights of the flight -
*Amazing loud engine start and slats/flaps
*Engine spool
*Wing-flex
*Heavy turbulence
*Unusual approach into Sanford
*Amazing crew!
*Flight deck
Well, this aircraft my be quiet but it is stunning! It's in a league of its own and has a completely different feel to that of a conventional aircraft. The seating was very comfortable, the In-flight entertainment was excellent, the big tinting windows are a lot better and the crew were fantastic! Even better that we had a remote stand so we could catch a glimpse of the massive GENX engine! Once we pushed back and cut the packs, the engines kicked in with a loud and somewhat eerie start up when the sounds from some of the aircraft system diminished. Both
G-JMAA and G-JMAB had landed before we departed and G-TUIA was parked up at the stand after arriving from the Dominican Republic. Our flight was operated by G-TUIC, the third Dreamliner delivered to Thomson back in June 2013. The crew absolutely love the 787. The cabin manager John said how he loved how quiet it was and the great atmosphere on-board, and the 767 is horrible compared to the 787. Same goes for both of the flight crew who formally flew the Boeing 757 for Thomson Airways, describing the fuel efficiency and the speed of the aircraft.
Due to thunderstorms over Florida, ATC closed the right coast of Florida and caused us to make a detour around the Gulf coast. It extended the journey time for about 35 mins.
On the whole, the flight was fantastic! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Conor010 Aviation Channel ✈✈ Here in Holland we,ve got Arkefly,it,s a sistercompany from Thomson...They got their first Dreamliner this spring and expect 2 more.And KLM gets their first 787/9 in 2015...But the Arke crews are also very enthousiastic about the performance and fuel efficiency..I,m a huge Boeing fan and some people dismissed the 787..But it,s a complex machine and Boeing is working hard to get the bugs out..Nothing can beat the efficiency of the new 787 dash 9.
@conco010
@conco010 10 лет назад
miquel440 Yes! You can see an Arkefly 767 just after we land in Sanford. I have seen the Arkefly 787 around Amsterdam. I am a fan of both Boeing and Airbus and do like the 787. However this controversy about the manufacturing of the 787 is quite serious especially because of the lives they are putting at risk. But the 787 is a wonderful aircraft despite!! :D
@miquel440
@miquel440 10 лет назад
You,re absolutely right,Boeing promised to much,to soon...They did a better job with the 777,it went into service much smoother without hardly any bugs..But i dislike the Al Jazeera docu,it,s a lot of false sensation..Dispatch reliability is now around 98,5 percent so it,s progressing.Boeing learned from the dash 8,so the dash 9 is much better they say..I wonder how the A350 is doing when in service...Nice talking to another plane enthousiastic like me..

I'm using this video to help me overcome my fear of flying, I've flown on and off for nearly 20 years always with a few years break because I couldn't face it anymore. I have now had hypnotherapy and will be flying on a Dreamliner in September, it seems quite and smoother than all the old 737's I used to fly on, will this help me do you think? The worst moment for me was always take off, is it me or does it seem less steep in a Dreamliner and more gradual?
@GH_UK
@GH_UK 8 лет назад
I flew on the Thomson dreamliner a few months ago. Its a lot quieter and yes its smoother particularly in turbulance. Its also larger than the 737 so handles the bumps better. Also, we flew at 43,000ft so you get less turbulance the higher you are. Finally, the air quality on board is excellent, we arrived in Mexico from our flight feeling great. As for take off - same as any other plane to be honest..... just quieter. Its a good video though isnt it! Im also enjoying watching it!

If only you could put a mute on the annoying kids who don't understand a damn thing of what's going on. There must be nothing more annoying than on a full flight full of kids who ask the questions "Why can't we just takeoff?" and "How much longer?" etc... etc... Other than that,the video was very enjoyable! Great sound when the kids would just shut up... and we could hear the GENX engines!

That pile was more like a mountain of stuff for me since I really love flying. Now as I am older some (most) of the magic is gone and it feels a bit sad actually. Personally I like the talking kids but the ones who constantly kick you in the back (airlines please stop buying the stupidly thin seats, I would gladly trade some leg room for a whole spine instead of arriving with 2/3s of it scattered around the cabin) are just annoying. Well well all of it is a part of air travel I guess...

@BrokebackBob
@BrokebackBob 9 лет назад
The wing is designed to flex and act like a bird in flight at all times. No worries. Boeing knows what they are doing and so does GE. Those engines the GEnX series were designed in a one of a kind alliance with pratt and Whitney another US world renowned designer of aircraft engines. Oh if the wings don't flex with the air, um, they break off, not really what you want huh? The 787 and GEnX engines make the A380 and noisy Rolls Royce Trent engines (which initially had a FATAL manufacturing flaw in a piece of oil conduit that caught an engine on fire) look like a dangerous flying coffin.

Shane Thomas Shane, that's about normal as normal can be. A wing on a plane serves, as a secondary purpose, as a suspension system, not unlike springs on a car (the primary purposes being lift). When a car goes over a rough road, the wheels wobble (using your language). Likewise, the air is to a wing as a road is to a tire. I'm telling you bro, it's totally normal. However, the 787 has been designed to be one of the smoothest in the air, so the wings are a tad be more flexible than previous designs. But not dramatically. And, finally, if a wing wasn't flexible, guess what .. it would break apart PDQ. Regards, happy flying ...

The best combination of engine and aircraft design for a non-jumbo flying today. The GE 9x engine designed specifically for the Dreamliner is the quietest and most powerful and most economical though not the cheapest at purchase being flown today. Due to their nearly 100 years of experience with turbine power generation, their aircraft engines sit at the top.

BobEckert56 its the GEnx engine not the GE9x. The ge9x will be used on the 777x

Just a quick question, will I be able to film take-off and landing whilst on the plane this year in July or does all of my stuff need to go into the over-head compartment?? If you could tell me that would mean a lot, loved the video, beautiful aircraft, I'm off to Cyprus this year so not the longest of journeys but still a long flight I guess :D Safe travels for the future :D

The heavy turbulence...how did that feel in the cabin? Either you have a very steady hand or the plane didn’t take too much of the brunt! I’m a nervous flyer and travelling on my first long haul soon so curious to know.

Boeing actually does the wing stress test for these kind of situations, if u read triple seven technological marvel it tells u n shows u how much boeing bends the wings for the stress test, pretty neat doh

@YouOnlyIiveTwice
@YouOnlyIiveTwice 9 лет назад
Maybe I just haven't been on a plane in a long time but are those engines mounted far more forward on the wing than the typical airliner? The engine almost ends before the wing starts. On another note, it's incredible how quiet it is in the cabin especially being right next to the cell. When taking off I kept waiting for that loud whine you get when a plane's engines spool up to full throttle, but it was surprisingly quiet.
@conco010
@conco010 9 лет назад
+The Red Viper They look far forward you are right but I think the engines aren't that long kind of shape like they used to be. The fans have got bigger and the assembly of the engine is smaller also. Since the fan at the front does the most work, combustion is not so much needed for thrust but to spin the turbine at the front. Yes, they are seriously quiet, unlike anything I have heard before.

The purpose of this video is to share with everyone the experience of being sat in this seat for this Thomson 787 flight. The idea is to include the main features with little extras such us engine start, taxiing, safety briefing etc. I appreciate your comment since not many people are interested in flight videos. Let me know what else you would like included in future videos -as I am happy to take critique- and if you want to see more if this flight, I have taken many pictures, some of which are on my Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages which you can find links to on my channel. It includes boarding, cabin shot, flight deck etc. :-)

Yep, it depends on which aircraft you think you are good at controlling and which you feel most comfortable with. I can't decide if it's a 737 Thomson or an a330 with Virgin. I am really good with the a330 but I'm still practicing landing in my flight sim with the 737

I'd just like to say, this was truly one of the best aviation videos I've ever watched on RU-vid! The quality is phenomenal, and the video captured the roar of the engines well. I actually boarded this exact aircraft (G-TUIC) in August 2013 for a flight from London Gatwick to Orlando Sanford, and I was just a number of rows ahead of where you are sitting in this video - so it's quite nostalgic to watch your video too! :) Thanks!

Greg Tuke I love Monarch! Happy to say they are my favorite U.K airline, they are so friendly and just a fantastic airline! I'm glad you enjoyed the flight, bet it was fantastic. Where did you sit, sounds like near the front? Those RR engines do have a very distinctive sound, especially when spooling.
