With Otrimi I highly recommend looking for hands with A mana dork and 2 or 3 drop mutate target. This way you can start deploying your mutate targets on turn 3 or the very least start slamming with utrimi. I’ve noticed in games where I skip the first 3 turns with the deck I’m struggling to catch up the rest of the game. Just my two cents
For what it's worth, OG Multani can't be equipped since it has shroud. Not that it probably would have made a difference with Marie drawing All of the Cards™ and having a huge hasty Zegana.
Loved the game, but your comment on Otrimi at the end "always feels like i don't have the target to mutate onto, or i don't have the mutate card to mutate onto the target" is a big reason why when i built my mutate deck i choose a commander to be the main target (in my case Tana) and have a few other creatures in the deck that can replace it if needed (in the case of Tana for ex. Krenko, Tin Street Kingpin). Other Commanders that can use mutate with the same idea are Tatsunari and Omnath, Locus of Creation for example.
I fully endorse 4c omnath mutate. I built it to be a clone deck: mutate onto omnath, clone omnath a bunch of times, and try to trigger his third landfall ability as much as possible. Really fun, I must say
Yeah I play illnala mutate instead, but the only permanents I really run are the mutate guys so I just can keep chaining every time and never really have to worry about finding them. Haven't really tried Otrimi other than mutate infect with him .
Turns 3 and 4 illustrate the big difference between cards like Act on Impulse and cards like Reckless Impulse. The latter lets you take a full turn before exiling the cards you "drew", so you have a chance to untap all your resources and actually use the drawn cards, rather than just exiling them away for zero profit. Card draw spells like Act on Impulse are a huge trap because there's a much higher chance that they won't actually give you more cards, which is exactly what happened here.
At 10:41 you only get to loot once with ivy on the board, because the symbiote triggers on cast and a copy of a spell is not cast, but resolves as a token
I like the Tishana deck. It looks a lot like my Prime Speaker Zegana deck, but with more landfall stuff in it. But what I miss in that deck is a win by deck-out (Laboraty maniac / Jace or Psychosis Crawler). Both have won me some games just by casing my commander and drawing to a win instead of pure combat.
For the otrimi deck, maybe run a rampant rejuvenator. It goes good with the spider recluse and it dying with mutate on it isnt all terrible cuz of the ltb
Andrew! i have a Mutate deck hear me out, don't do otrimi, instead to Brokkos and very few other mutate cards now I know Brokkos is generally made with infect but I'm suggesting you go +1/+1 think about it you grow little guys into big guys with counters mutate onto them, aka keeping the power thx to counters, and swing for lethal examples include forgotten ancient, Yahenni, Toothy, and my favorite Body of Research also as added benefit Brokkos can be resummoned from the graveyard !
I'm loving Marie's showcase cards. Commander doesn't really rotate so it's a perfect opportunity to invest in. I also see commander as a perfect outlet for d&d style game nights, so I kinda went all out. My decks are reeking havoc on my bank account but fun is always a good investment. I have borderless Ragavan and Cyclonic Rift, and I still have borderless Doubling Season and Battle Royal for Vishgraz to give an idea of why I'm always broke. I haven't started my Emerkul yet either, so ramen season is upon me. My only concern is local commander night. I have to start with Dihada for first impressions cause I play to win, but Djeru and Hazoret + 2 elgrazi or Obosh + Heartless Hidetsugu has me worried she's too overpowered for casual. It feels rude to start with esper mill and I can't just be complete degenerate with Vishgraz. Commander struggles
@@anthonybalista7421 Legion Loyalty + Chatterfang + Rhys = degeneracy personified. I also threw in Sir Conrad for extra salt. Basically, if you don't have a token box, you're missing out. If you don't show up with the different tokens, then that ban is on you
Tishana goes brrr. One of my newer and favorite decks. Mine is more of a dork build though, so I can afford Tishana a lot earlier and can have a better payoff with the draws since Tishana sees all the dorks. The dance Zegana and Tishana have is usually quite amazing. Lastly, Displacer kitten has been a beast in the deck for me.
