@@fw1240 I just squeeze a bunch in my yard and some has 1 seed and the majority have 3 seeds. I guess mine is safe. I've cut it down so many times but kept coming back stronger and climb all over. Because the birds and other animals loves it I just continue to let it grow so that they use it as their home.

wild grapes like muscadines are best eaten when fully ripe very black looking there sweet then if they have a maroon look they are quite ripe wait a week more if plant some of these make sure you put in full sun the sun shine on the leaves is what conrols the sugar content of the fruit

When i was a kid I harvested wild grapes for my family and we made it into a jelly that I called venison jelly because it had a wild sort of flavor and was good with venison .I never heard of the Canadian moonvine thing. Thanks for the education
@twirlyboggs
@twirlyboggs 4 года назад
I grow muscadine vine and enjoy the young leaves and grapes. I picked a berry from the moonseed lookalike plant and removed the seed and sure enough, it was crescent shaped. This was after I almost ate one though (very careless). Luckily the berry tasted pungent and I spit it out. After 20 min or so, began feeling not so good, just from the residual (remember to wash out mouth with plenty of water) which I didn't do!!! If I felt bad just from the swallowing spit from the moonseed, I'm confident eating the whole berry would be BAD! Also, the moonseed growing around here has fat, slightly fuzzy leaves.

More for me! I literally can fill up 2 to 3 5 gallon buckets within a mile of home in 30 minutes or so. So many that even the possums and birds grow tired of them. Many people are afraid of them due to their susceptibility to fungus but if my grandmother survived the depression eating random weeds while the rest of the U.S. looked on with mild discomfort, then I'm fairly certain cleaning the grapes off well before making jelly is not going be an issue. Besides, there is such an abundance that within 1/4 mile will be a freezer full of grapes from a much healthier vine.

they are bitter and you would probably not eat them after one bite but if eaten in large enough quantities they could be fatal. I think apple seeds are to. I would bet if you ate one or two you would feel sick and maybe toss them back up.

excluding mushrooms and other.fungi.. Roughly 75% of what grows in the US in the woods is not toxic but the most deadly thing out there often resemble harmless ones..So please be careful. Never eat a mushroom with proper knowledge. Probable 85% of them will kill you. Most toxic mushrooms(unlike other toxic things in woods) will not.make you sick.. They will kill you and at small amounts of intake

Poorly done. You talk about the differences, but only show one type. Then you don’t identify the single type you are showing in the video. Please consider redoing saying “this is the grape, this is the grape leaf, this is what the grape seed looks like.” Then do the exact same thing with the moonseed.

+WhiteBoyWithAnIpod There very will might be but by me I only found those grapes the books I used to identify them were The Peterson field guides edible wild plants for eastern /central North America and the SAS survival handbook by John lofty wiseman. I felt like I had to take about the Canada moonseed even though I did not have an example of just so you are aware you could come across something poisons. I hope that helps you somewhat. I have heard the wild grapes most often cross with cultivated grapes as well in the wild. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

How can they be poisenous, the seeds need to be spreaded and if nothing is going to eat them then the next generation of plants can't exist, it's the ecosysrem. The plant gives us tasty nutritious fruit and in return we grow the new plants it works both ways. The plants make the fruit for a reason to be eaten and for seeds to spread and if there poisenous then why did the plant grow them then.
@RealQuickChris
@RealQuickChris 6 лет назад
One would think it would work like that but nature is tricky for some reason
@homeiswonderland
@homeiswonderland 6 лет назад
Some animals can tolerate different plants. I think most plants do just fine without humans eating them and pooping out their seeds/planting and caring for them.
@RealQuickChris
@RealQuickChris 6 лет назад
side note I think poison ivy is one that most animals will never even notice but when some of us humans touch it we have a reaction to the urushiol oil/sap inside the plant. some are lucky and have no reaction at all I am not one of those lol
