"WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE????? DO I LOOK LIKE I'M MADE OF MONEY??????" "why tf do they have all the other books in that series but not the first one?" "*gasp* those books!! are not in order!! how dare they!!" "*grabs 15 books off the shelves* I WANT ALL OF THEM" "I already have this book...but this edition of it is so pretty..."
*The* "why tf do they have all the other books in that series but not the first one?" *one was so me when I wanted to buy the Harry Potter series, it drove me crazy, eventually I bought the rest, and read the first book in an E-book form. Still looking for it though...my hometown's bookstores sucks.*
idiamond99 that happen at the libery when I was going to school it was the demonta series and if your looking for a fast read the series is good but it's gory and you can read the first four out of order
My thoughts: "That guy over there is standing in front of the shelves I was going to look at next. I'll just awkwardly stand here and re-ead the titles of the books on these shelves till he moves on....... why hasn't he moved yet?!"
When I go to the bookstore my main problem is when they have all the books in a series but they are different editions and the covers and the height of the books don't match
I've been in four times this week. It's been a really stressful week and my way of coping with depression and anxiety flare-ups is to lure myself out to a familiar place... and I just happened to choose the book store (because I can go spend time writing in the cafe beside it), and that meant buying three new books, plus a notebook the fourth trip because I smartly forgot my notebook that day. Same cashier each time and she didn't say anything but I was judging myself assuming she was judging my being there so often in one week XD
I always wonder why there will be like the first and third books of a series next to each other then the second book will be like 20 miles away in no man's land :)
Generally it's lazy customers :) and also because if they don't have the numbers on the spine then I'm not going to waste time by looking up what order they go in. Some series are over 20 books long and I will reorganise them when it's quiet but not when I have to get stock out ASAP.
I am so glad I don´t have to do this in Germany. Every book has the same price no matter where it is sold, that makes life a lot easier. And it is one of my constant fears, that this regulation might fall one day.
Me: I only came in for a birthday present for my friend, don't buy anything else Also me: *walks out of the bookstore with 5 books and no birthday present*
Me too myself: Kayla doesn't like books anyway! She won't appreciate you as much as I do (says to the books in a hushed voice while caressing the spines and freaking out passerbyes)
As a bookseller I can tell you now that when we ask people for help or if we give a recommendation and you've read the book or have comments we LOVE to hear it. Most booksellers are avid readers themselves and love to hear about people's favorite books so that we can recommend them to other readers (or read them ourselves!) Also we never judge people with huge stacks of books we really celebrate it. One because it proves that people still love and go to real bookstores and not just online, and two, we know those who buy multiple books are real book lovers who will probably come back! Also as a bookseller it is really really hard for me to not go home everyday without buying at least one book. TT_TT The struggle is real!
"I don't want to buy this and end up not liking it." "I wonder if they'd mind if I just sat on this footstool and read the first 100 pages to see if I like this..."
I don't work at a bookstore, but I do this IN my favorite bookstore and I'm pretty sure the only thing that stops them from being annoyed at me is that I spend enough money there per month XD
I love these videos, they're hilarious and relatable :) Me when browsing in a bookstore: "Ooh this cover is really pretty, and it looks super interesting!" *checks price* "Ooohkay maybe not THAT interesting" *carefully placed book back on the self*
The book I was looking for wasn't here what do I do don't panic don't panic don't panic DON'T PANIC I'll just come back another time .... WAIT WHAT IS THIS OTHER BOOK IT'S SHINY MINE
Actual thing that happened: Me: *sees books store* Me: okay I'll just look Me: *runs into bookstore* Me: *fangirls over some beautiful new books covers of my fave series and my friend/parabatai literally has to drag me away from them* Me: okay ONE book Me:I can't choose Me: THIS one Book that I left behind: *puppy dog eyes* Me: puts five books on the counter Bookstore owner: *gives me a look like 'are yuh actually going to read those? Do people your age know what reading is?'* Me: *stares back like 'dude, we do. And yes, yes I am.'*
me in my head: sooooo,, I'm just gonna explain to mom how much I've been wanting this book and how much I've been looking for it and how much it means to me and she should understand and say yes to getting it. easy peasy. me in reality: **follows mom around and shows her the book a few times without saying anything and hoping she takes the hint and doesn't ask how much it costs**
SENPAI UNDERSTANDS ME also WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE LIKE DUDE.... and WHY IS THAT ONE SERIES MISSING THE THIRD BOOK LIKE DUDE. and dont get me started on everyone putting the best books on top of the shelf. like im teeny tiny tweensy what do you want me to even do bro BAIIII CHUU
When my aunt gives me a Barnes and Noble gift card for my birthday I literally forget about the other gifts and give my parents an evil smile. I tell them "So which one of you is taking me to Barnes and Noble? I have list of books that are calling my name so let's get going."
There's only 1 real bookstore in the area and everytime I walk inside the bookstore just to look around (that's a lot ) I see the lady behind the desk (or something like that 😂) look at me like 'what the ?? She's here AGAIN!?!?'
I AGREE. But I have some things to say tho. If you're in a bookstore, please PLEASE DON'T REARRANGE THE BOOKS LIKE YOU THINK IT SHOULD BE. Take it from me, I've been working in a bookstore for almost 2 years now, and it might not seem like it, but we do have a system. so pls pls don't. Aaaaand we are also massive booknerds, so don't expect you're talking to someone who doesn't know their shit xd yes, I might know nothing about dutch literature(I'm dutch, work in a dutch bookstore) but I DO know a LOT about fantasy, Y/A, and childrens books. We only want to help you find the best book we know, so yes, I'm actively selling V E Schwabs serie bc it's my favourite serie. I can't see in your head if you already read it or not :( But otherwise: YES YES YES. I have to leave my wallet at home so that I don't buy new books every day :')
Me:Why does this bookstore not have the book i wa- ooooh this one is so prettyy. And that one. Oh and this one sounds promising. A HARDCOVER AAAAAHHH Bookstore owner: Why is that girl hugging books?!?
Me: agreeing with all of these points Also Me: maybe I should go to a bookstore... I only have to get one book Me, but Later: I CANT WAIT TO READ THE SEVEN BOOKS I JUST BOUGHT
ahhhhh I love this video. Unfortunately, I live in Australia and a $50 gift card will only get you 2 books in total :( Why is everything so expensive in Australia?
Dominique Solomon just don’t cover up anything important please... like the title or the author or if there’s literally only one place in the entire book that tells you which book in the series it is and the sticker just has to be on that one spot and then you have to waste your phone’s battery and your time looking it up and... yeah ok you get it lol
*walks into bookstore* ok just here to look, now ok, JUST LOOKING! Your bookshelf is bent and ready to die and your bedroom is covered do not, DO NOT BUY ANOTHER-*sees book that I don't have and want, but go and buy anyway because booktuber read it and sadly poor thing will sit on my shelf for months till I get to read it* AAHHHHH!!!! In the words of Samuel Sabery-FOR SHAME!!! FOR SHAAAAAAAAAME!!!!
My thought: “Okay, Mom’s not gonna let me stay in here for more than 20 minutes since I started loving books and spending all of my money on them and have only read at least a few more than one time. I gotta speed browse these shelves even though I’m only hereto get specific books” :( Edit: Second thought: “Why am I here? I need to get another bookshelf because my first one is full” ;-;
Me in a bookstore be like : "I want this. And this! And this also seems interesting! And I also need this and this and this!" While my mom's probably thinking "i want to go home. This sh!ts to expensive. When will she learn that money doesn't just grow on trees?"
The whole "That bookseller better not ask me if I need any help because they are asking the wrong person. If anything they need my help," has actually came out of my mouth. Every time I go to BAM and they have a new worker who asks if I need help I get a little annoyed. Don't they know I'm a regular here? Poor things.
The pure judgement of when you ask for where a series is and the worker thinks your just getting the first book and you come back caring all 8 books in the series...
"I don't necessarily want to buy this book, but it's checked out at the library, so I'll just *very casually* sit in one of the chairs, start to read it, and hope none of the employees call me out on it."
This is so accurate! XD For me, I'm always making a budget in my head on whether or not I can live off of Ramen for a few weeks in order to afford 30 beautiful books
When they finally have the 3rd book of a your series in stock, but see someone bent the cover and the first few pages as they put it back In the shelf😭
I think that I'm in heaven when I'm in a bookstore, and I sometimes smell the pages.... THEY SHOULD MAKE PERFUME THAT SMELLED LIKE THAT NEW BOOK SMELL!!😱😂
okay why these books are not in order? this goes here, this goes there... okay I feel better now... HOLY SHIT WHO THE HELL MANAGES THIS BOOKSHOP? THEY SHOULD PAY ME FOR THIS
At the book stall (cause all the books are like £1 at my nans local market soooo) PLEASE MUM LET ME GET THIS BOOK, I KNOW I HAVE 100 OTHERS I HAVENT READ BUT PLEASE!!
Thoughts Watching This Video As Someone Who Works In A Bookstore: The hardcover VS paperback argument is a struggle when we always see new releases the second they come in, i've definitely read the back of a book and the second it said "sex" put it down as if someone knew what it said, we love the "just one book" people because it's never just one book lol!, damaged books are so easy to come by - customers shove them in, staff shove them in though we try not to, shelves are evil, and gravity dude! but get that damage discount and you're solid - the elderly never remember if they've read a book or not and they always "forget their list" and it gets real annoying sometimes, $50 gift card = 4 books? not where I live honey, display as in facing outward or on display - either way we dont control the displays and it's all about how the books fit regarding if they face outward on a shelf - people had smelled books right in front of me and i love it every time, stickers on books help people! and they come off easily (if they don't its not the sticker, its the book cover), we have to ask people if they need help - it's like illegal if we dont, especially if the boss is around. Hope this was useful?
This is so relatable! Especially with the 'recommending books' ones! BTW - I've totally recommended books to strangers, especially when they already have the book in their hands. Why not just tell them how much I love it!
