So now we have 4 different pencils and 3 different keyboard cases that are almost the same size but don't work with the entire iPad lineup. Very good for the environment if you have to buy all new accessories, even if the old ones still work perfectly once you consider upgrading (even from Pro 2022 to Pro 2024). What's particularly annoying is that it's often not a hardware issue, just a software limitation to boost sales.
The point was the waste. Is you have 4 ipads none support the other keyboard or pencil. So now you have 4 tablets 4 pencils and 4 keyboards. Waste. Like you said, if you have the latest gen which now is the 5th tablet 5th pencil and 5th keyboard you will most probably forget about the others. So if you do not sell the other they become waste
@@gabrieldipse6525 do you really think companies like apple doesn't study market capacity before production? They all run business based on numbers. If they don't then they will have those roe problem. So these companies don't just wake one day start production. So waste is not the factor.
i don't remember the last time I used my tablet. Maybe i used it for taking a lecture but that was months ago It's not a useful device unless you consier raising kids one of its functionalities Yet we got almost all reviewers trying to praise it to the skies.
Wacom's Stylus doesn't need to be charged. They work slightly differently by cutting cross a magnetic field on top of the tablet and the rotation is also done using the change in magnetic field.
Wacom does actually have a BATTERY STYLUS called AES. Which performed only slightly better than Microsoft's N-Trig tech. Lenovo loved using AES, the Google Chromebook Slate used AES as well. Edit: The one benefit of EMR tech though, is that TILT, is digitizer based and not PEN based. Since I can take a Note 4 Stylus which didn't have a digitizer that could accept tilt, and get tilt on a Tab S3 which was the first Tab to accept Tilt. Though, that Note 4 stylus doesn't play too nicely with the Tab S9 and S24 Ultras. I think Samsung and Wacom tweaked the frequencies slightly. You really have to push hard on that Note 4 stylus to get some "ink" flowing.
@@tdata545 Wacom AES better (albeit only slightly) than MPP 2.5? Not sure I´d agree..... Would have placed Wacom AES in the realm of MPP 1.5/2.0. MPP 2.5 is not on par with Wacom EMR, but it´s pretty close and leaps and bounds above all pen tech from MS before that.
Glossy panels have always been better than matte at reproducing deep blacks. Colors tend to look richer and deeper, if you don't need the anti-glare or paper-like texture, it's better off avoided.
@@Jushwa I mean for artists the paperlike finish would be nice I suppose but even then why have an OLED iPad that’s a little glary just for that? Just buy a magnetic paperlike screen cover and take it off when you watch movies.
all matte finishes do, that's kind of just how diffusers work, the light that would normally be a clear bright reflection is being diffused across the display
@@youssefmohammed5456 damn dude you got him. Did you see the pricing, it's 2200$ for 13' 1tb with keyboard and pen pro. Why not just get a macbook pro at this pricing. I can get a full spec m1 max or even m2 macbook pro 16 same cost. Why the fuck you need a thinner iPad. And more powerful iPad? Only for final cut. A final cut machine ahahhahaha
I think the most impressive thing about Apple's OLED and Mini-LED displays is their seamless HDR integration. You can use the screen an actually comfortable brightness level, around 250 nits or so, and then whenever you go into an HDR video it will output an accurate HDR brightness level for full screen and highlights.
@@heroninja1125True. But kinda expected tbh. Macbooks are hardwares running os made by the same company. Windows is just an os, how every manufacturer handles their hdr is out of their hands.
@@unliving_ball_of_gas not even that, the way windows software handles HDR is just not that good. This is coming from someone who has tried to use HDR on windows.
It's always fascinating to see how cutting-edge tech like OLED, M4 chip and haptic feedback motor is fitted into such compact devices, while still ensuring efficiency and performance. Looking forward to your in-depth analysis after the testing phase.
where apple pencil tech was first implemented: Pencil vibration - surface slim pen 2 barrel roll - Wacom art pen correction: most Wacom pens don't even need a battery to work unless it's an active stylus. thanks for correction about Wacom styluses/pens, abdel
It's been one worrisome thing and complaint of mine. I stopped using my pencil 1 for half a year, and then I tried to use it, it already stopped working. The apple pencils will always drain to 0, and the capacity is so small it would die if it is left unused.
@@abdelahedounism3418and only work on select, expensive devices. People compare wacom tablets to this only to forget that drawing tablet’s aren’t exactly budget either. The cintiq 16 costs £750 here in the UK.
@@jackwilson5542 Apple saw how the Surface lineup turned out, and made the clear decision to make a hybrid solution for the iPad instead of just plopping macOS onto a device it was never designed for to begin with.
Not going to happen, hybrid OSes aren’t a simple thing to make You guys really need to take a look at Windows 8 and see just how hard making a touch hybrid desktop OS is. Dual booting won’t happen either, because that’s just unnecessary complexities at that point
Apart from Apple dont have any of the same challenges, they use the same architecture and core operating system in both products. Literally they just need to switch between UI management.
Does the nano coating on the glass affect the way the Pencil feels to use? I feel like that's maybe a response to those PaperLike screen protectors if it does. Wacom tablets have a similar finish to make the pen feel less slippery when drawing.
It would make it an attractive option for writers, and avoid the usual issues of rainbow effects that paper screen protectors have. The paper-like is one of the few screen protectors that had a good feel while avoiding a lot of prismatic rainbows. It's the most bubble prone product ever though.
On Wacom, the barrel orientation is done on the pen - they have a different pen, called the Wacom Art Pen (that looks like a marker pen), that can track the orientation of the barrel. Also, the Wacom Art Pen only works with the Cintiq and Intuos (if that line still exists) line of their tablets. However, I don't know if Wacom rolled that barrel-tracking functionality into their current line of Wacom Pro Pens.
I'm hoping that Samsung drops a good response to this iPad whenever that happens I'd want them to use the dual OLED tech to reach a higher brightness and use a desktop class processor (maybe X Elite?) The thinness is whatever but I really like the tandem OLED tech in this.
Highly unlikely, the M1 is still better than most i9 gens chips, that is a full fledge pc processor in a tablet, Samsung uses snapdragon chips which are still mobile chips lol, x elite is not going to match even a current 14th gen i3, it doesnt even have an igpu or npu which all cpus have nowadays.
@@haruyanto8085 In terms of efficiency, yes that is true and it draws much less power but if your looking at those types of Desktop CPU's in performance then its a different story (watch any M2 Ultra vs 13900K comparison) so I don't know where you're getting "M1 is better than most i9's" yeah maybe in a 2019 Macbook running on 40 watts with loud fans or like half of laptops but in an iPad it's a different form factor capable of specific limited things but still its a decent-ish device. As for using those "PC level chips" in the iPad the capabilities are still hamstrung by software because of Apple not wanting the iPad to step on the MBP's toes meaning you get some functionality but in the iPad way that doesn't make it feel like you are able to do drastically the same things so proabably even a M1 vs M4, apart maybe some AI stuff but most of it functionally the same (it may be faster in some ways but it's not like transitions from Intel to M Series) maybe WWDC will change some things but Apple is probably *never* going to give MacOS on iPad. Also the X Elite/Plus does have a GPU and NPU (in a similar fashion to Apple as it's ARM), now it's great that competition is here but I doubt it's going to beat to match Apple at it's price point now anyways, it's Intel GPUS all over again.
The ability to adjust the rotation with rolling the pencil is gonna be huge for certain artists, for example in Arabic calligraphy where there are specially oriented brushes for certain fonts that are nearly impossible to get without. Super nice to see!
6:30 Wacom EMR, battery-free digiters/screens had the rotating brush feature since 2005. Now on iPad, with right click and hovering. IPads are finally maturing.
Same man. That would be great. Shame they won't but one can dream. I use an iPad pro from 2018 and haven't felt the need for anything more. The new pencil is tempting but that's about it. Maybe in 3 or so years I'll get one of these m4 iPad pros.
@@LiveTypethis tablets are worthless man. Ita a final cut machine that's it. Such amazing tech ruined by shitty software experience. Outside the very optimized apps, that most people don't need them more powerful then the m1 device, the tablet doesn't so any more.
I just recently bought a refurbed ipad pro 12,9” M2 from 2022. And i absolutely love it. I use it for drawing in clip studio and sculpting in normad sculpt. And use it as my main computer. I will probably never use my huion kamvas pro 13 again. That i must use my laptop for. With this i can draw digitally very comfortable in my armchair. The new pencil pro sounds cool but the new features isnt anything ive missed.
As an artist the ability to roll the pencil is game changing. I'm losing my mind at how responsive it looks. I can't believe I might actually have to upgrade... And that matte coating; I press REALLY hard when using Procreate, I cannot imagine it being as durable as the glossy glass, what on earth. Apple must have fine print somewhere. I cannot risk buying it to immediately ruin it the moment I draw something hahahaha
Bro you gotta change the pressure sensitivity on the settings, trust me it's WAY better when you don't have to press hard (unless you like it that way?)
I use an iPad every single day. For recordig and editing audio (podcast studio owner), for video editing for social media, and photography editing. Add in apps and games , videos consumption, etc…I don’t like the “it’s just an iPad” narrative that all the RU-vidrs go with. I do have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Studio. For deep edits I use the mac studio clearly…but when this new Final Cut for iPad drops with external drive support that might change. And iPad with Magic Keyboard is the perfect machine in real life. Especially when you connected to external monitor.
Watch his video again and his emphasis on larger screens that usually are only 500-600 nits, these devices are latest laptops, understand context, learn to listen
@@haruyanto8085 I don’t get the point of your comment. I simply said that I didn’t know that doubling the number of nits means you’ll get double the brightness. The part in the video where he said that about the iPad 1000nits (~20-25% more bright)then other maker oled 500-600nits
No matter how much powerful the chip is, its still an Ipad - Marques Brownlee I mean you cannot do much productive work like excel, photoshop etc. Like you do on Mac
That’s rubbish. Excel does not exist for iPad, true but there are plenty of apps for productive work available for it but if you just point to specific PC apps which aren’t on the iPad then you’re right, but that is not the best all and end of it.
@@TheRonron1994 exactly. Until they give it Xcode I’m out. I had an M1 iPad Pro and ended up just giving it to my wife because you can’t really do developer stuff on there. Even chromeOS is better in that regard.
The new iPads show that Apple purposely kneecaps their products. The “iPad “ came out about a year ago go with a camera on the horizontal side, and it was said that because of that they couldn’t give it wireless charging for an Apple Pencil. The new iPad have the same setup, but magically can still wirelessly charge! It’s Almost like they aren’t consumer friendly and add in inconveniences to make the more expensive stuff more appealing
Finally a new Apple Pencil after 4 years and all it can do is tilt the direction of the stroke, that’s all. 120$ ah you can’t use it with any other iPad
Okay, so maybe because this is an off the cuff video, but I think the info about the display is a bit wrong. The tandem OLED is really cool tech, but if I recall correctly, Apple says that it can do 1000 nits full coverage. 1000 nits sustained is a very different metric. Most OLED reference displays can't do that without massive cooling.
They can- the display of a flagship phone in sunlight can hit 2000+ nits sustained with the sun shining on it. The more important question is whether burn in won't be a problem. (As some users have brightness maxed out all the time) Only a time will tell.
@@jackwilson5542Only in smartphones tho! OLED TVs are still mostly 200-300 nits with 1500nits ish peak brightness. Phone OLEDs are the brighest in the industry
Older WACOM Intuos worked very well with tilt, hover, and rotate. Early Cintiq sometimes lag due to software being used, and hardware. Current WACOM tablets generally lag free regardless of software and platform. These are really desk devices, and not as portable as an iPad, though the control of a WACOM should allow much more freedom of movement (design).
I'm pretty sure they had to change the charging configuration for the Pencil Pro due to the front facing camera, as it blocks where the charging coils used to be. I'm sure it was an intentional move to get people to buy new products though lol
That menu they added on squeeze is similar to what Samsung Note stylus has been doing for ages using a button. I'm surprised it didn't exist until now. Apple users will go crazy if they learn about all the features Samsung's Bluetooth S-Pen has.
Have they addressed the heat issues with their Mx silicon? I had an M2 12.9in iPad Pro and iPad Air but I noticed they ran a lot warmer than the old M1 iPad Pros, especially when using apps that are pen-driven (Nomad Sculpt, Procreate, Clip Studio Paint, et.al.) so much so that I went back to using my old iPad Pro M1. EDIT - Mistakenly thought the iPad Air ran on M3 silicon. Thanks for pointing that out.
@@Kids11111 Source? That'd be crazy🤯 Edit: Nvm I found it was mentioned in the keynote, but I've not seen that mention anywhere else for some reason. This is huge!!
I love that you nerd out about the technological advancements of Apple products. Because honestly, they are impressive AF even if it won't be appreciated by the average consumers. Because somehow I feel it is so easy to hate on Apple Products to just being overpriced, when in fact they are really pushing boundries in many areas of tech. And innovation requires a lot of R&D costs. Vision Pro for example, is a reflection of the tech advancement Apple can achieve. Not saying apple doesn't overcharge for crazy prices like the RAM & storage upgrade. I just feel it's nice to sometimes appreciate the little things that the company also brings to the world. And hopefully, other competitors can catch up so the price will come down and the tech can eventually become widespread.
I recently switched over to Android, and I don't think I'm going back to apple until they start adding more fun to their software/features. iPhones and iPads are impressive pieces of tech, in terms of their power, but the fact is, a lot of android phones are almost just as fast, have just as good cameras, and just as good battery life but have more features and more customization.
Yeah if you switch just for customisation and "features" you won't last long, 99% of android users including myself don't even make use of those features or customisation lol, I maybe customise the ui or wallpaper once or twice and never touch it again, can't even get a proper "find my" alternative that works for all devices on android Fun an quirky features are cool but you'll quickly realise most are literally useless and half baked.
Funny thing is also is that in some cases you can actually do more on Android devices in some ways that Apple could implement but choose not to, I don't know about "just as fast" maybe when it comes to phones between the S24 Ultra vs current 15 Pro Max but I think the M Chips on iPad are much faster than the Snapdragon Mobile 8 in Tab but then again they aren't even in the same class (Like comparing a Snapdragon Mobile 8 to a Ryzen 9 Desktop) but it's not like you can do much more with the performance anyways 😂
@@haruyanto8085If you actually use Android like a phone, or a device that serves as a bridge for an end goal, like a business, communicating efficiently then yes, having more features is warranted, and Android is better than an iPhone. But if you use your phone as a Social Media Machine, or in this case the iPad as a form of consumption device, then you can make that argument that iPhone will rope you back in. But I feel like this largely stems from the fact that we can only buy one device, and sort of live without using one of the other, and if you're technically inclined and watching videos from these channels then you should get an Android. But some people really live in this stage of denial where their honest needs are fulfilled by an iPhone, rather than some Android-nice to haves.
@@haruyanto8085Find your what? Find your device? That stuff has come baked in with Android since the Mesozoic era, you can access it through your Google account. Also, I think it's a bit rude to dismiss the person's likes on the basis of "well, people around me don't care therefore you won't either". Most people I know personally don't give a crap about emulation, and can you guess how much that diminishes my interest in the subject?
@@haruyanto8085 "99% of android users" source? Trust me bro. Hahaha But yeah, I get your point. I used to to customize my home screen a lot and change it every now and then but I got tired and settled w/ just Niagra launcher.
It’s amazing that burn-in is always a term I hear when people talk about OLED. It makes sense given how the tech works. But in my own experience no OLED screen I have used for years has ever done it. But I’ve had many IPS displays with most being from Apple on the iPad, MacBook Pro, and iMac burn in like crazy. Anyway I’m excited to see where this new screen tech goes.
Dude I have the same tablet so no fanboy response.. I got it at launch and the price was close to this. Funny how everyone is bashing the price it’s not bad compared to Samsung top line tablets on release. And fact is they have nothing that can compete with these specs. Samsung supposedly working on going 💯 in on in house build chips could be interesting. Maybe they can develop something similar to the M lineup
@@saiiiii8683 not the tablet's fault though, its the app developers for not optimizing the app. But if apple continues to limit its software on ipads, who knows in the future when devs will also polish their android counterparts especially apple is getting boring and boring every year, just minimal hardware upgrades and minimal spec bumps. Yes, apple have the best hardware there but what's the use if it is limited by its software.
I am actually in love with iPad, used one sometime ago until I reverted back to Samsung tab. Here in Africa, the prices of Apple products are insanely pricey! Wish they could do something about that, have a way to make it more affordable. In all, Apple has done very good with the latest products as usual. Kudos to them!
More advanced than the Vision Pro? I think not. Before optical losses, those micro-OLED panels produce ~5000 nits, if that's your benchmark for "advanced".
It’s not burn in. It’s OLED pixel decay. It is completely different than plasma burn in. It might look the same but it happens from completely different way. Wish people would stop saying it is burn in. The OLED pixel decays over time.
Why the hell are all of these RU-vidrs advertising it? Like nothing new. Same software, same camera, etc those are the major things which would be revolutionary, but they didn’t do anything but increase brightness and slim. M4 is expected to
Best screen currently on the market, one of the best if not the best pen enabled device, great performance and efficiency, no competition in its category
What tf do you expect? It's a peak tech in its category, there's barely anything to improve on. Besides, they must review the new tech, especially from major brands, regardless of the scale of improvement.
I hadn't even considered the durability aspect of the textured glass. Seems like a good reason to go the other way. If you want anti-reflection, use a screen protector that provides it. You can replace that as it wears down. Plus it means that the default state for the screen is high clarity and deep blacks. I know from my experience with the OLED Steam Deck that you ruin those blacks with textured glass-badly enough that it's impossible not to notice it constantly.
Judging by all the videos I have seen. The tandem display seems to be super reflective and is going to create problems with users who have cataract issues. Therefore the display right now (its first iteration) has to be bought with layer coating they are charging extra for.
After the brightness was mentioned i looked at my 6 year old ipad pro how much i have it turned down. I am about 35% so my eyes are in the comfort zone. The brightness only is relevant for outdoor use in Sunlight (for me]
They've gimped the Apple pencil to provide more differentiation with the new Apple Pencil Pro. The standard pencil has now lost pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing and charging, and double tap (and the ability to have it engraved for free) - those 'features' are now only with the Apple Pencil Pro (which is the same price), but the previous pencil (now downgraded) is also cheaper, and only slightly more than the gen 1 pencil.
It'd be cool if someone made a game using Pencil Pro as a "controller" or a helper of some sort. Like not just using it for drawing/notetaking, but for something else, especially with all new gestures available. It is definitely possible, it's just a matter of someone's creativity and will.
Samsung tab s9 series already have that. You can use the s-pen as a sort of controller for example controlling powerpoint presentations while you're presenting or using it for controlling music apps.
I draw on the ipad pro. A lot of times I can’t have fill brightness because it will overheat in procreate after an hour or so. Which honestly is very little when it comes to drawing sessions. Something tells me that making the device thinner and the screen brighter will not solve that issue. I always have to keep my screen at 60-75% of brightness.
the mate coating looks like wacom and other digital drawing tablets does, is a nice feature for artist because if you want to use an ipad for drawing is a must using a screen protector, if not, you will have scratchet soon.
I think the squeeze will be like force touch - neat in theory but too hard to train and remind normal people to use. Who knows, maybe the pro artist community will love it....
Is there a reason the new magic keybord doesn't work with previous ipads? Are the dimensions different or the pins moved? I'm still using my M1 iPad and I have never thought that I need more power to upgrade but the new keyboard looks cool and if it's a software limitation that would be so Apple...
Did you notice how the battery drains when blasted the brightness to 1000 nits ? my MacBook pro m1 pro was only lasting me 3 hours on that sustained brightness, please give us some thoughts on your experience 🙏
Everybody keep asking who is this tech for and considering the choices apple made i think you can easily say its for designers, architects, artists and students. Of course regular consumer apple fans will also buy it
