Video shot on Leica SL2 in L-Log. Recorded to Video Devices PIX-E7 in UHD ProRes 422 10-bit. Sound recorded using Sennheiser MKH-8060 shotgun mic into Sound Devices PIX-LR. Edited in Adobe Premiere Pro 2020.

How do you think a Summicron 35v4 would perform on the Monochrom versus the current ASPH? I can see color differences in these two lenses, but I'd like an opinion on which would be optimum for this body.

Due to the increase in resolution, more demand is placed on the lenses. Modern glass can resolve more detail with fewer aberrations. But, if you're after a particular look, a vintage lens is going to deliver something completely different. It's not always about absolute performance, but figuring out what you want to achieve.

Great preview, but I'll miss the C shift in connection with the on/off selector. To fiddle with the menu is just not professional layout.

With a lower noise floor, we'd expect the dynamic range numbers to be significantly better than a equivalent bayer'd sensor, no? A few of their proof of performance numbers had blown out hair and other details so I'm not sure what to take away from that.

Highlights are still an issue due to the single channel capture of the Monochrom. I'd suggest checking out my follow-up video where I discuss this on the M10 Monochrom specifically and show tons of real-world photo samples. You’re trying to correlate over-exposure with dynamic range, which are completely separate.

With a monochrome sensor the noise is actually quite pleasing - almost film grain like. Just shoot it with a higher ISO and use a faster shutter speed I guess.

A high shutter speed combined with the very well damped shutter and solid construction stave off just about all camera shake. I just let the ISO run up to 20,000 if needed to keep my shutter speed at 1/250th for out and about shooting. See my follow-up video for tons of real-world samples.

What so surprising to me is when i look at people who post there Leica images i would say 90% are all converted to B&W. I wish I had the money for the new Monochrom which I don’t so in the mean time I took my rarely used Sony A7Rlll which has been replaced with my new SL2 and had the color filter removed for $800 and now I have a all Monochrom 42MP Sony which still has AF albeit contrast only and the results are just in one word amazing. I hope one day to replace the Sony with the new Leica Monochrom. I am 100% convinced that if you want the best looking B&W images from a digital camera this is the best way to go

To me all the images look like they have some sort of fine gauze or net over them. And the blacks don't actually look that black. Strange

Did you see our second video on the M10 Monochrom? Lots of sample pictures from real-world shooting.

@@RedDotForum Yes and they're certainly better. But it shows the shortcoming of looking at images from a heavily compressed platform such as RU-vid. Perhaps a link to the the RAW images would help us be able to actually make a decision based on the real images. Nice pics though. Sadly I do need colour images and can't afford the luxury of monochrome only. I'm upgrading my D-Lux 109 with the utterly fantastic Summilux lens to a Q and as that has a Summilux too I'm hoping for the same sort of feel to the images which imo is luscious after post in LR with a Tri-x preset.

It's always a challenge for Leica to find people who are convinced that 8200€ for a body deprived of colour is a fair rate. But it happens each time easily. Likewise the price of a M10 vs a SL2... There are none so deaf (or cash cow) as those who will not listen.
