The legendary rap group from Memphis, Tennessee has a strong case for being one of the greatest and most influential rap groups of all time. A group that first came on the scene in the early to mid-'90s is still having a lasting impact on music today in the 2020s.

@@concept8407 Definitely. That's the X-Factor now. Verzuz is turning into something different. It's really turning into a concert. I now realize that anybody can get smoked in a Verzuz if they don't play the right records. With that said I think if Bone and Three 6 get announced we'll see a lot of people say Bone but if Three 6 plays the right records then their opponent is going to have a long night.

@@Teece007 I think for now on in Verzuz I'm going to go with the underdog. They always show up with something to prove and kill it. We've seen it with Jadakiss, Trina, Jeezy, etc. Bone is more commercial but Three 6 can really pull out A LOT of records that would hit. Their catalogue is super deep and people have to think that individual members can pull from their own catalogue. Juicy J alone can pull stuff from Three 6 Mafia and his own solo catalogue. That is trouble right there and I didn't even mention the records he produced outside of Three 6

@@miggypeso909 No doubt that No Limit was influential, but when I'm talking about Memphis its mainly from a production standpoint. Beats groups like Three 6 used 25 years ago are still being sampled today. Many trap rappers throughout the 2010s derived their sound from Three Six. Of course we can't forget about the Lord Infamous flow used by the Migos and the many rap acts that followed. I'm not tryna give sole credit to them or rewrite history, but they did contribute.

The first time I knew of Three Six Mafia was as Triple Six Mafia from a show they did in Raymond Mississippi around 1990 or 1991 @ Hinds Community College. That shows they were hustling towards what they ended up being for real 💯. Yo it's wild in hindsight knowing how they turned out. Half of the songs topping charts presently have that southern tick riding in the background. That tick is the epitome of Memphis rap. Hell, like two years ago there were three hit songs based off of the "slob on my knob" beat alone. Credit where credit is due. Thanks for putting this out!

Born in 81, in to rap since run DMC, tone LOC, naughty by nature, dj magic Mike, epmd ... Over the years tho, Memphis rap has been the only I've kept on the play box. So many that shoulda been big. That style has laid the ground work for today still imo.
