My channel doesn’t cover folders often but these got my attention! #coldsteel #foldingknives #knifecollector Check prices across Amazon, Midway USA, Knife Center and Smoky Mountain Knife Works
I'm a new cold steel collector and been collecting for about 7 years and started with the Luzon large. Now I have close to 50 cold steel (not a lot but enough to impress beginners) and edc the Frenzy II, Black Talon serrated, 4 Max scout, Pro Lite, mini tac tanto serrated and spike tanto
@@muximumtroIIing, I like it as an edc and still carry it to this day. Have had no issues with it and haven't had to sharpen it yet. I have both large and medium
I'm an almost 30 year customer of Cold Steel. I have over 150 pieces of various things. I've EDCed the 6 inch Vaquero Grande serrated for almost 30 years. It has been my best friend. I don't use it to cut boxes, tape. I have a multi tool that I EDC for that. It has only one purpose. Hope I never have to. I bought the Rajah ll in March 2020. It is now my EDC in the left pocket. Being a huge fan of Kukri? That's a real knife. That's Apocalypse ready. People just have no clue what a Kukri can do.
I've probably got around 100+ Cold Steel knives. All the Voyagers (regular and XL), all the Recon series, 4Max & Scout, SR1 and the SR1 Lites, Spartans, Rajah 2, Espadas... the list goes on. The SR1 Lite is damn near bomb proof. I've used them for bushcraft- shelter building, battoning etc. and it's never failed. About 2 years ago I witnessed a car accident where a drunk driver t-boned a small Ford Focus. I used the SR1 Lite Tanto to literally pry open a door to get to the occupant of the Focus. If you like an overbuilt beast folder that will never let you down then you need to check the 4Max and 4Max Scout (as well as the new 5Max).
Three months after I entered the arena and started collecting knives, I discovered Cold Steel and never went back...That was about a year ago, and now I have a 100 or so...and it all started with that SR1 Lite. As usual great job brother!
I took the pocket clip off; Cold Steel makes some great knives but their pocket clips are junk and pocket destroyers. Most knife lovers know about their pocket clips. Thank you for the review it was very beneficial. 😎👍
I own several cold Steel knives. Been buying them since the 80s. I wish they would bring back the carbon five steel. For the money they are really hard to beat.
The forward part of the Rajah II‘s blade is so massive that I find I can open it in a flash with just a whipping flick of the wrist. It’s a great knife for a variety of tasks!
For $150 you can have a Rajah ll. That's not dream incompatible. My dream is the Nodachi from Cold Steel. It's about $800. That's a dream I will eventually have come to fruition. Eventually.....
I like the American Lawman and the Code 4. The Code 4 has aluminum scales that offers no traction so I added textured rubber grip tape that I made a paper template and cut the grip over it and it works great and looks good too.
My folders tend to be light work . If I'm needing tough I take a fixed . But I have looked more than a few times at the AD10 . That could do it for me .
When you decide to buy a real knife from Cold Steel you'll be impressed. $20??? Really? For $50 to $60 you can actually get a decent knife from Cold Steel. But $20? 🤨
I'm a machete guy... when I saw the Rajah II, I had to get it. Alot more discreet in the pocket. I use mine for light brush, strickly as a slicer. The famed Recon 1 has been on my wish list forever.....I always pump the brakes when I see the price.
I have been watching & buying cold steel folders since the late 90s & when they came out with Triad Lock it was incredible. I have batoned with it, spent hours throwing it into trees & targets & the Lock is incredible. I have used the Recon 1 tanto for years. Thx for the video
I really like the Voyager series. The current line has more ergonomic handle design but the earliest versions had a much much nicer steel blade. They are always shaving sharp out of the box.
I love your channel!! Reminded me of a meeting that happened years and years ago. Three US Navy Medical Officers supporting US Marines on a field exercise at Camp Lejeune bullshitting about the wicked knives Marines carried and what it meant. We challenged each other as to which blades we carried. We each pulled out a Swiss Army Knife from our pocket. In hindsight, we all knew we had Marines around all the time to protect us. 😂
Much love from ft Bliss TX been subscribed a while now and love the channel never a disappointment best blade channel on the tube man thank you for all your hard work
I bring aling an SR1 Lite as a last ditch prybar. Any knife can cut, but in a life emergency only an SR 1 Lite can pry. Fixed blades cant be kegally carried hence the compromise on a folder.
Based on TRI-AD LOCK, there are many combat folding knives for self-defense purposes. The knife is fast to draw and can be quickly held at the end of the handle, allowing it to cope with a certain degree of violence.
My EDC is my Cold Steel Voyager Tanto XL and my back-up is a Cold Steel SR-1 Lite Tanto. I have two of each of these knives. I don't use the thumb stud to open them. I let the knives open and close themselves. Just project the knife in a direction, holding the knife firmly. The knife will from gravity open with a click. To close, hold the knife pointing down and push the lock mechanism in and let the blade break. Then bring it up and let it click closed. This works on both these knives. I have the Rajah as well but I don't carry that. At least not up to now. I tend to also carry a fixed blade during the winter months. Easier time of the year for concealment. Wearing all that bulky clothing, Parka, etc. My usual carry fixed blade. A Cold Steel Recon Tanto. I also tend to carry a Kyoto 2. There are some other knives I carry sometimes, like a Hoffner Hand Spear or a CRKT Hissatu. I have a lot of Cold Steel Knives. I got my first Cold Steel fixed blade Tanto about 40 years ago. I still have it in pristine condition. I never used it. .
I’m a serrated vaquero xl man, myself. Got quite a few Cold Steel in my modest collection. My Big Bear Bowie Machete gets used a lot for breaking down cardboard. Best 25$ knife ever!!
The cold steel Frenzy is the goods once you do a little work to clean up the folding action. Really light and easy to carry for a 6" folder and a vicious quality S35VN blade that's razor sharp.
Two of my favorite cold steel folder in my collection are my TI-lite 6 inch and my voyager xl vaquero. The TI deploys quickly as it can grab the pocket and in a sense auto open and feels like your holding a small sword. The vaquero is just big and mean looking especially the serrated version. Both are well balanced and easy to wield.
I carry three Voyagers every day: the Vaquero XL, Tanto XL, and one Drop Point Large. I have over 50 Cold Steel knives in my collection, and the first one was an RS1 Lite Clip point. I am a fanboy.
Those are definitely 2 of my all-time favorite folders, and I have all the xl Cold Steels except for the xl Espada, 5Max, & Mayhem. You need to add the XL Voyager tanto next.
What?! No Espada? I love my large Espada. It sits in my pocket almost unnoticed. It rides on the out side of my leg. Slim but incredibly strong. There’s a video of a guy stabbing it through the hood of a car over and over and over. Without a chainmail glove. Same tryad lock. My buck 110 I is more uncomfortable in the pocket. Love that huge clip point. It is truly a pocket sword. Even the large. It is a dedicated self-defense knife. I’ve never used it. Sexy Knife. People freak out over it. The extended handle gives you incredible, solid reach. I did not like the look of it when I first saw it but now I love it. And the design goes back 300 years. Pretty cool. It was made by people who were prohibited from carrying swords. They came up with a folding sword. Brilliant.
I own 12 myself! I have 3 Large Voyagers (Drop, Clip, Tanto), 3 XL Voyagers (Drop, Clip, Tanto), 2 Counter Points (One, XL), 2 SR1 Lites (Clip, Tanto), Immortal, and 4Max Scout. ALL of my folders are great choices! My XL's and Immortal stay at the house, while the other 7 I EDC. But that is a nice trio that you have!
Good video. I use the Cold Steel "Recon." You are correct on lock's importance. I had a cheap folder fail me in a potentially lethal self-defense fight. I always check my EDC folder to see if it will pass the tap test now. Next, I need a folder that can be opened easily without looking at it and using one hand. Finally, there must be a guard or some finger grip to prevent overtravel by my hand. Oh yeah, I never buy a knife from the enemy Communist China. Free Taiwan is fine. First time here.
You may want to use caution when "messing" with those clips on the SR1 Lite my friend. I purchased two in mid August 2023, and as in the past tried to induce a gentle bend into the clips to save on pocket wear. I've done it before on this model and many other Cold Steel knives with no issues. The only difference was my before experience with was with the "before the sale" models. To my shock, both of these newer knives, well, their clips actually shattered, a clean break near the lower bends. What was worse was, Cold Steel refused to sell me another clip, I did not want a free clip, and did not save the register receipts, so had no warranty either. Fortunately I purchased some after-market titanium clips and they work perfectly, plus are black and don't act like beacons saying I have a knife in my pocket. If you want to use the CS clips, I recommend two fixes. Use super thin washers between the clip and the attachment point, then use an emery board beneath the location where the pocket clip contacts the scale, smooth out the texture under the clip where it contacts the knife body. This will help save your dud's from the ravages of those over zealous CS clips. My guess is the new owners have cut a few corners to save a few bucks, I've seen other videos where CS knives are breaking, I mean ones that never used to break before, but they break now and with not much effort (talking about Bushman). The blades on these SR1's are still fine and dandy, only the clips have had an issue; just thought you should be aware. Peace. Oh, EDIT: I added a Snaggletooth to each of the SR1's too, money very well spent, acts like the Emerson Wave feature for not too much bread.
You ne r d to try out the XL Voyagers, too... Those are awesome Mega Folders to carry. The Andrew Demko Tri-Ad Lock Folders absolutely, "ROCK!!!" They're the closest you can get to having a Folding Fixed Blade Knife! Great Video, Bro! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-)
I have a small collection of cold steel knives but what I have in my night table is the SR1 lite. My edc is the "Frenzy". I like ex "Spada' for longer knife. Good video..
I love the tanto version, but yeah, the pocket clip is way too tight. I bent it up a little, worked it over with a flat head screw driver, and it is better now. Great knife.
That's cool. Thank you for the review. They look like very good knives. I've heard Cold Steel is good. I had a friend a few years back who purchased the Ispata, I hope I spelled it right. It isn't a cheap knife but I imagine it's pretty good. He did break the tip of it though, misuse. A very good high quality knife can break if misused. It's not good to use a knife as a flathead screwdriver for prying or it more than likely will break. Thanks again for the video and stay warm or get warm. Looks cold there. 🥶🤧
Daniel, you just picked THREE of my favorite, most carried folders right there! The SR-1 Lite Tanto and the Rajah 2 are in my backpack 24/7 WHILE carrying the SR-1 Lite clip point in my pocket. And Daniel, I've used a file to sand down those grivex handle on those SR-1 Lites and made them VERY pocket friendly!!! Sending you a pic on messenger so you can see just how easy it is to do it!!! All the best, GREAT VIDEO!!!
At the beginning when I had the knife I pushed a Chinese chopstick under the clip for 15 minutes, and after that the tension is now absolutely perfect 😅🤷♂️
Here in the UK 🇬🇧 we can't carry anything to protect ourselves we just have to lay down and take a beating in the hope our assailant doesn't spoil his footwear when it contacts our body , because there is always that fear that they could claim compensation for the damage! 😂 stay safe cheers for now.
I was a fixed-blade inclined person, but recently I've realised how awkward is to conceal carry some larger fixed blades and how a huge pocket knife can be concealed as easily as a tiny fixed blade. Then I shifted and bought some Civivi and QSP folders...dude, they're awesome. Now I can carry a 9.5cm-cutting-edge knife without any discomfort or liability. Sure, it's slower to deploy and much harder to do so in stressfull situation, but that can be managed with more focus on situational awareness and by deploying the knife earlier than the attack (may we never really need any of that stuff. Amen!). Anyway, I thought the trade between fast deployment and conceability was worth it. Plus...they're gorgeous.
I’ve had the Rajah 2 and Sr1 lite for some time. Very glad to see your great review! Wait til you get your espada xl- it’s amazing that it feels as rock sold in the hand as the rajah 2. Of course your friends were blown away when you pulled the rajah 2 out of your pocket, and if you had to pull it in defense one day, imagine the eyeballs bulging of the guy or guys who you needed to back off you?
I own both the SR1 tanto and Rajah 2.....both are awesome blades bro 🔪.....great review man....I always enjoy your great videos. Have fun with your new blades my friend 😊
I have them but my favorites are the g10 large espada . The large is about a perfect knife. The other one I carry is the large voyager vaquero and tanto.
I have the same problem with the tightness of knife clips on my pockets. I've about switched over to non-folding, worn on the belt. I do love my Ti-Lite and Luzon. Have lots of other Cold steel products, mostly knives and machetes. Love them all.
I love my Code 4, Recon 1, Pro Lite and Verdict, just to name a few. I’m keeping my knife collection but not planning to add any more - at least for a while.
👍🏼I’ve had the sr1lite for a couple yrs but haven’t carried it because of the pocketclip. I just recently took the clip off and made horizontal kydex for it. Carrying it everyday now. I need to get a Rajah 3.
I own several Cold Steel folders and my biggest gripe about them has always been the pocket clips. I found that if you take several pieces of cardboard and slide them under the clip as a shim and leave them for a few days it relaxes the tension. If you try and bend them it never seems to get it the way you want.
That sr1 lite is like having a fix blade on you every day. Just this morning on Saturday I was helping my dad take out counter tops and we didn't have the square bit that the installers up 2 screws on right and left side. Out came the sr1 lite hitting the knife with a hammer blew right though the wood to clear out the screw head tough as anything.
If you want a truly serious Cold Steel folder, go for the 4Max. I have both the AUS10 & S35VN versions. I don’t even hesitate to baton with the 4Max… Also the new 5Max is even bigger!
I always carry the cold steel pro lite, the black talon II serrated, the Frenzy II, the mini tac tanto serrated and the spike tanto. I keep it simple when I'm working with carrying only the Ozark trail model 31401 knife, mossy oak folding knife and the rough ryder RR2080 (for just in case)
Good video as usual. The Raja II seems like a great knife. I own several Kershaw-Emersons that are designed to open the blade using your pant pocket (I can open the blade either in Heaven-blade pointing up or Earth-blade pointing down. It takes practice but any important knife deployment skill takes lots of practice.). Having a big Kukri type blade that's a folder and can be opened like a Kershaw-Emerson has my attention. I also liked the beefiness of the 2 other blades you reviewed.
The SR1 lite is in my pocket every day, even in basketball shorts around the, use it daily, today I dug a curtain rod bracket nail out of the wall.....and the Rajah II is on the table next to me as i'm watching this video
You need to check out regiment blades they were previously colonel blades but they make a nice knife for self defense, they feel good in hand and only require a normal punch to throw a strike. They even got an all g10 model that will do some damage.
got both SR1 lite's Great work knifes i carry it in a leather belt sheath as i removed the belt clip. got a few Espada's even was able to find a few discontinued Espada Medium.
