Let me know when you have some *REAL* Cold Steel blades in your collection. Here are a few of mine ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2aHIUDxXLEA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AJWJUR8AKu4.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-42sUVCAXAI4.html
just say "maybe, whatcha need it for?" if they wanna do something that would abuse it then no, no knife here, if they just need to open or cut something, then yeah I got a knife, I often carry a Victorinox tho, I often have the right tool for any job.
See, but I usually have a Leatherman Free K4, and I always show them the package opener/staple remover first so they aren't abusing my edge. And if not, I always have a Victorinox Sportsman in my laptop bag 💪💪
this is an excellent review. you are the first guy on youtube to review these blades from a practical perspective. everyone else does torture's tests which is ridiculous. i already know the knives are tough. i am more worried about how these blades carry in the pocket and how practical they are. thank you so much.
My dear brother, in my country the only one of big cold steels is Radja2, so it was destiny for me to buy it and i am so glad that you are choosing it from oll other ones!!!
Just ordered my Rajah 2 today! I carrie for years a Pocket Bushman, and I love this knife. I have four of them. Three in BD-1 steel, and one in 4116. Greetings from Germany!
We are out there brother. Luzon large, VoyagerXL, Espada Large, Ti-Lite VI, Counter Point, and an assortment of fixed blades. Almost every day. The off days I carry a Balisong, or Karambit.
I'm another poor boy haha, but I got the Luzon. Not the BEST blade ever, but I love that thing. Always feel comfortable jogging at night when carrying it
Really???I did not know this. I've bought a Voyager tanto xl and a Rajah 2 from Amazon Cold Steel . I'm afraid to sharpen them myself, because they aren't simple blade shapes... Thanks for the info, sir
Like yourself I own a bunch of LARGE cold steel folders, infact I'm a little addicted to XL folders, my personal favorite by far is the rajah2, I even kinda prefer it over my G10 Espada xl
I have the Espada large with aluminium bolsters & pommel. It's perfect fit & fitness & is head & shoulders above any of my other Cold Steel folding knives. That's not to say there's anything wrong with any of them. It's just that everything on the Espada is dovetailed & none of the others feature this. I got it from Midway USA for $204. I love it.
I agree, the rajah ii is nice to carry. I go in the pants. Its easier to deploy with the wave than any of the large folders. Hand in the right spot to use it right from the start. Espada large is my favourite overall but its among the hardest to wave open. And while the espada xl is ok to wave open, it sits so low in the pants, not as comfortable. Even though its thin.
The Large Luzon is a great Cold Steel large folder. Six inch blade reminiscent of a Balisong, flipper deployment. One of my favourites and at a very good price too. Thanks for the tour. I have the Espada XL in plastic handle and I love it. Also the Voyager in clipped blade - I like it.
The Rajah 2 and the Talwar are the two greatest (folding)blades that Cold Steel has ever made. And I usually carry the Rajah 2 because it is badass, it has many utility uses, and it doesn't look as "stabby"
@@underscorechalice9929 Hell Yeah, it's out now....they are just now shipping them to retailers. I just watched " Stilletto " video on YT about it. He got one of the new ones. Anyways, love your blade reviews and thanks for the reply, sir.
Don't you people read the damn red insert wrapped around the rajah 2 when you unboxed it? It clearly says ( This knife was never intended for use as a tool, axe, or prybar, its made for carving flesh!) Then you cry when you lose a couple fingers or wind up bleeding to death! The video of Mr. Thompson using it to do all those punishment tasks are to show us proof of how strong the knife is so we know their not junk!
A tip that i was given, and use with my spartan that ive carried daily for 2 years now is to add a short paracord lanyard to give your hand more purchase on deployment.
@@adods9824 i did a snake knot lanyard about 8 inches long with an 810 vape drip tip for a bead i use my pinky and ring finger to wrap the lanyard and forward fingers on the pocket clip and i pull straight up while tilting towards the rear seam to give the wave the most catch time
CARRY YOUR FIGHTING KNIFE IN YOUR WAISTBAND. I HAD TO PULL MY XL VAQUERO ON THIS SHIT STAIN OUTSIDE OF MY JOB. LONG STORY SHORT IT SCARED THE PISS OUT OF HIM. THANK GOD. STAY SAFE DUDE THAT RAJAH LOOKS LIKE A MONSTER
Thank you for the most intellectual review which includes reasoning about the motives to purchase and to carry, and carrying issues. And special thanks for not trying to fold the knife with a blow on the butt.
I like the Cold Steel XL folders. I have the Counter Point XL and the 4Max Scout. I received the Voyager XL Tanto today. My XL folders are my AHC (Around House Carry). But the 4Max Scout is EDC/AHC for me. Anyway, good video!
You got my knives !! No for real I own those very same Folders by Cold Steel and I absolutely love them ,they just make you want to go on a camping outting for a few dayz.😎🎱😎
Every knife has its advantages and disadvantages. I like the Cold Steel knives and the first Folder I bought was the Voyager with a 5 inch blade. I still have it, it's great and many others followed over the last 30 years. Some years ago I bought the latest Voyager and regarding to the statement you gave to this folder I agree with you - as well as to all your other complaints. But which folder doesn't have these problems, which one is perfect? What would be of interest for me is, how the folder would look like, which satisfies you. Last 50 years I was looking for the perfect folder, but unfortunately I did not find one. Possibly your ideas might help. Best greetings from Germany and thanks for your super video.
I'm with you brother! I have a Luzon 6", Spartan, Rajah II, and Espada XL (G10) I'm trying to decide what is next, but the Espada XL is a tough act to follow!
I am a Cold Steel freak as well. The Vaquero Grande 6" serrated folder has been my EDC for 28 years in my right pocket. It is my best friend. I bought the Rajah ll in March 2020 and it is my EDC in the left. I have over 100 pieces from Cold Steel. About 50 are blades. My dream Cold Steel weapon is the Nodachi.
@@bobbyknoth6985- Their Nightshade series is incredible. Sticks, clubs, staves, whips, torpedos, shirts, sun glasses, protective safety glasses, gloves.... Check out their site. You'll be mind blown.
I enjoyed this. And as for easily pulling out a big Cold Steel folder, from a pocket, a short 2-3”snake-braid paracord 550 lanyard is perfect. Even if the clip is really tight.
I have had a number of Coldsteel knives over the years since they came out in 1980. I recently bought the Espada XL with the G10 handles. It is a bit awkward in the pocket. If you don't use the pocket clip it will sit a little deeper in the pocket. I've been checking out custom made sheaths for this knife for horizontal and vertical carry on the belt. I'm also looking into in the waistband sheaths. Something to think about for anyone wanting to carry a large blade without being to conspicuous.
In the UK, if the police stopped a driver and the car was searched and if ANY...of those were even just in the trunk of the car, he'll be arrested on the spot, and charge with possession of an offensive weapon. We're not even allowed to own any bladed article where that blade is curved and is longer than 50 cm... ...IN OUR OWN HOMES! - SERIOUSLY! If such a thing is found, we will be arrested, right away, and charged with possession of a BANNED item! Don't ever think of moving to Britain...it's a cesspool of overdone legal bullying and utter rubbish!
To sharpen the Rajah II use the edge of the stone, if it's a whetstone make sure there are no chips on the edge, if they are just remove them with sand paper. Also make sure you don't put too much of forward pressure, as you can litteraly slice the stone. On diamond stone you won't have this issues, so you can just go sharpen it on the edge of the stone right away. I sharpened my spartan this way.
I highly recommend you try the 4-Max. You'll probably like it too. I know I like my Fancy Large Espada and my 4Max Elite tied for favorite, both for different reasons.
With a recurve blade like the Spartan or raja you need to go from tip to heel in order to sharpen them but instead of going forward like you’re slicing a piece off go backwards on the edge of the stone like you’re stropping it on a piece of leather with light pressure or with the weight of the knife it took a lil while to learn and adjust my sharpening patterns but it works and polishes the edge instead of dulling the blade
I’ve been carrying the drop point voyager xl and I can see myself going the way of buying each of the ones you did after yours. I should just skip straight to the espada and save myself some money.
Been carrying the xl espada for only about a week, so I don't know if it fits all my pants pockets, but in my everyday work pants it fits fine and lays nicely so I'll keep trying it for a while. If it doesn't fit something I'll switch back to the rajah 2 since it has fit in all my pockets so far. I have had to dedicate a pocket for the xl espada though lol. No keys or anything else goes in there now
Ceramic Rods, aka, Crock Sticks. Or bet the Ken Onion Edition Work Sharp. The one inch wide belts are just perfect for sharpening the Rajah 2. I should know I have one, its sitting by my computer. Its a Pocket Khukuri. It's not plastic. It is some time of glass filled nylon.
If you try it does flex, just by virtue of how long it is. I haven't put it through a lot of hard use though, so maybe that would cause some issues. But the lockup seems solid.
You can have a good sheath made to conceal your espada, it’s a nice “tool “ to have if you really needed it as a last resort. There are better ways to carry the espada. Play around with it.
I bought a second-hand C.S. Vaquero Grande today. Not because I needed it, but because "just to have it in my possession".. Anyone else who have had the same itch?
Purchase a pair of Wranger Ranger trousers, get a decent gun belt and you can carry your XL Espada with no problem. I carry mine just loose in the pocket so it doesn't stick out but you of course can use the clip if that's what you prefer.
I carry the recon and voyager both regular and XL I found with the thumb suds the blade is easy to open and does not get caught up in the pocket. The thumb disc are terrible the disc gets caught up in the pocket and sometimes opens by accident or just keeps you from being able to get the knife out of the pocket without a struggle. Cold steel puts a cheap wave feature on their knives so they do not have to pay Emerson for permission to use the patent.
I just got my 2 Voyager both are seraded I like them. But yes the texture is rough on hands. They say you can with light sand paper sand them down. I think I will do that.
Get a Swiss Army Knife for loaning to friends and small utility task. Don't use a Espada XL or Rajah II for small blade task because that's what a Swiss Army Knife is for, so get one or two. ⚔️🎱⚔️
I thought the same thing about the XL clip point... The poor man's Espada! But I really like it though. I also wouldn't spend the 300+++ for a knife but, I would go for the G10 one! The LG and XL... I'm hoping that they stock em again... So, I'm waitin'! Sigh...
@@underscorechalice9929 dude I don’t know what happened, 2018-2019 cold steel shit was everywhere and so so cheap. I regret not having money then. I have bought like ten of the cs knives I always wanted in the past few months but I regret not being able to find some of the gear for epically low prices.
not too bad. Candid. Work on your close. I found the same problem with dragging to open. They sure are pants-rippers. Experts will say slashing will not kill as effectively as the thrust into the vitals. I often think that a push dagger can be deployed more effectively than anything. My tip to cold Steel is........make some of your Spike neck knives 2 or 3x bigger. Also ...the only knife I need in case SHTF is a double edge. 5-6" dagger, no slip very grippy rubber handle. .I don't care about durability. All I need it to do is win one fight. If it does, I can buy another one. As to shape, the blade needs to be thin enough to slip between the ribs. If it glances off, I'm toast.
I like the espada XL but the price is 130 good price just more than I would want to spend when I know I might brake it. The rajha 2 was 85 dollars so bought the rajha 2 of Amazon cheaper than knife center
Nobody understands the XL knife life until they need to cut their burger in half and your knife does it in one slice LOL then they get why it's useful to have a big knife
