In winter, many humpback whales gather in the sea around Amami Oshima to breed and raise their young, so it's great fun to see their fascinating performances at sea.
冬、奄美大島の周辺の海には多くのザトウクジラが繁殖と子育ての為に集まってくるので、そこではザトウクジラの様々な魅力あふれるパフォーマンスを海上で見ることができて、実に楽しいです。
For example, they do
Pec Slap, where they turn their bodies sideways and slam their pectoral fins on the water.
Flipper Flopping, where they turn their bodies on their backs like a sea otter and slam both fins on the water.
Tail Slap, where they lift their tail fin high and slam it hard on the water.
例えば、身体を横向きにして胸ビレを水面に叩きつけるPec Slap（ぺックスラップ）、身体を仰向けにしてラッコのようになり、両ビレを水面に叩きつけるFlipper Flopping （フリッパーフロップ）、尾ヒレを高く持ち上げてから激しく水面に叩きつけるTail Slap（テールスラップ）などです。
The most impressive of all is the big jump called Breach!
I've seen some impressive breaching up close, but it only happens in an instant, so I'm always late to get a photo, which is frustrating. I'd love to film it someday.
中でも圧巻なのはBreach（ブリーチング）と呼ばれる大ジャンプ！
私も大迫力のブリーチングを間近で見たことはあるのですが、一瞬の出来事なのでいつも撮影が間に合わず、悔しい思いをしています。いつか撮影したいものですね。
Other than that, the so-called blows, especially the rainbow blows that shine with rainbow colors, are truly beautiful, and the beauty of the peduncle arch, which can be seen when the whale arches its body and raises its tail fin high above the water surface after its final blow before diving, is also impressive.
その他にも、いわゆる潮吹きのBlow（ブロー）、特に虹色に輝くRainbow Blow（レインボーブロー）は実に美しいですし、潜水前の最後のブロー（息継ぎ）に続き身体をアーチ状にして水面高く尾ヒレを上げる際に見られるPeduncle Arch (ペダンクルアーチ)の美しさにも感動してしまいます。
You can also see mother humpback whales swimming close to their newborn calves in the ocean. Even the newborn calves are 4 to 5 meters long, but their childlike behavior and gentle actions that show their mother's love are soothing to watch.
また海中では、母親のザトウクジラが生後間もない子供に寄り添って泳ぐ様子を見ることができます。生後間もない子供でも体長4m～5mはあるのですが、やはり子供らしい仕草と母親の愛しみを感じる優しい行動には見ているだけで癒されてしまいます。
