When baby orphan monkeys are too big to join the foster mom program, orphans Remy, Duimpie, and Fritzi must make their own way home.
The Vervet Forest is a wildlife documentary focused on the lives of the monkeys at the Vervet Monkey Foundation in South Africa . We join the orphaned and injured vervet monkeys in their adventure and struggles as they battle their way through the foster monkey mom program to become part of a monkey troop again. This channel is for those monkey lovers who enjoy monkeys living their lives as monkeys should.

Another wonderful, entertaining, educational video of the progress of your little babes with whom we have all fallen in love. 😊❤ It is very uplifting to see your level of loving care, and the individual journies of the babes from the day they come in as orphans to becoming adopted into a troop. Sweet!

I'm so glad to see Rexie playing with the littles and having so much fun. Reminds me so much of Floki, that year, helping with the babies and also healing with the help of the babies.

It looked like Remy was getting was getting some of the same treatment he gave the smaller monkeys in disneyland by the junior monkeys in the enclosure. He and Duimpy will learn fast.

To be honest, I feel a bit sorry for Remy and Dumpy. Especially Dumpy, who never had the chance to get to know one of her own kind. But I hope the integration into this group goes smoothly for both of them.:)

The sad consequences of keeping them as pets. They are making progress every day and are both so playful and full of energy. I'm sure if won't be long until they decide to stay out in the enclosure. We'll let them go at their own pace though.

Letting them choose their own pace works so well. Your integration practices are so flexible, allowing each one to find his or her own place in the troop. Always a pleasure to watch and learn how different each integration turns out to be. Thank you all! 👍

@@mark.fergus You must be in a bit of a pickle with the pet owners. As I understand it keeping a monkey as a pet is illegal in SA but if you report people to the authorities you risk people not coming to you with their monkey when they can’t handle it anymore. So what do you do?
@mark.fergus
@mark.fergus 3 месяца назад
@@azilgaard Yes that's basically how it goes, we need to be able to work with people without the threat of prosecution. Most people mean well and do want to care for the monkey, they are just unaware of the consequences of keeping them for prolonged periods of time. We keep in contact and provide updates so can see that they've made the right decision and will hopefully advise others of the same. We do get quite a few orphans who have been confiscated by authorities and handed over to us. If people contact us directly, they are usually already looking to hand the monkey in.

How do I get the book I've written for you to you? I sent it by email but I'm not sure if you received it. I have written it to give you the rights of it, it's about two little vervet monkeys.

Thanks, I have received it and read it, there is still a lot of work, grammar and spell checking, editing that needs to be done and quotes to bring it to publishing format are way too expensive, thank you though

Great video and amazing work as always. At what age/size are they generally considered too old/big for a foster mom? I assume that after they fully integrate there will be a female that they will naturally start to click with the most who will be a sort of surrogate mother.
@mark.fergus
@mark.fergus 3 месяца назад
As you can see in the video, Remy and Duimpie already have their fluffy grey adult coats and darker faces at about 4-5 months old, so they're a little too big and independent for a strict foster-mum. You are right though, they still seek a carer. They really love Jessie, from the video, but also Gladys, another elderly female from the group who keeps coming back to visit and stay with them. She's never shown any interest in babies before so it's actually really sweet to see.

@@mark.fergus It sounded like she was saying Dainty. Is that how it's pronounced or was it just her accent? (And I'm not insulting anyone's accent; hers is prettier than my own hillbilly one. lol)

"Duimpie"... she doesn't have a strict foster-mum, same as Remy, as they are a little too old and independent to be carried around, but they both really love Jessie and Gladys and they seem them as their guardians.
