I would reccomend also a movie called Volhynia made by one of the most talented polish filmaker nowadays - Wojciech Smarzowski. Beware, its very brutal, sad and heavy. I dont think that I'll be able to watch this movie in the future to come.
@@edlawn5481 i agree this movie was brutal absolutely brutal it was a tough watch but to me necessary people need to see how messed up that part of ukraine / poland/ ussr and germany were .
Im polish and in 1939 my grand-grandpa survived ww2 he was 18 then german soldiers tell him to go to the german army but he refusses and he was shot in the leg but he was able to escape after ww2 he died of cancer R.I.P Franciszek Gierszewski 1923-1996
Adrian Brody did an excellent job and the movie was made very well, but I would like to see another version of the movie but with actual Polish people.
This version was made with Polish people, the grand majority of actors and extras were Poles. To be honest, I can't imagine anybody better than Anthony Brody playing this role. He was superb.
Technically not a WW2 film, but rather one talking about the WW2 aftermath, but "Ashes and Diamonds" (1958) comes highly recommended. "The action of Ashes and Diamonds takes place in 1945, shortly after World War II. The main protagonist of the film, former Home Army soldier Maciek Chełmicki, is acting in the anti-Communist underground. Maciek receives an order to kill Szczuka, the local secretary of the Polish Workers' Party. Over time, Chełmicki increasingly doubts if his task is worth doing." Francis Ford Coppola has said on record that it's amongst his top 3 favourite films; that's quite high praise coming from him, and, I can say, it is deserved. Another recommendation I can make is the fairly short Polish series "1920. War and Love," set during the Polish-Bolshevik conflict. It's a fairly well told story and, perhaps more importantly, it depicts a lesser known yet fairly important conflict in European history (it laid some foundations for the 1939 aggressions and further explains the extreme dislike of Russia by the Polish). Cavalry played a major role throughout the entire conflict; quite unusual for that period. The series also features an armoured train at one point, which might be useful as footage for a potential future video. Thanks for the great videos!
The trilogy of films by Josef Waide that includes Diamonds and Ashes, or Ashes and Diamonds. This trilogy is particularly important because the movies were made during the communist era.
The British and French sold the Poles out at the start of the war. If they’d actually attacked Germany at the time instead of doing nothing the war would have lasted a couple of months as the whole Nazi army was in Poland and not on the Franco-German border. (See The Saar Offensive). Polish airman engaged the LW planes at suicidally close range to score so many kills. My favourite piece of Polish aggression and utter fearlessness was the destroyer ORP Piorun which attempted to fight the Bismarck on its own. Believe me, it takes some doing to ‘out deat cult’ the Royal Navy.
@bewlaybrother4460 We told the Poles one thing and neVer had any intention of doing it. We told them we’d help if they were invaded but never told them that are plan was to do exactly what we did in the first war ie hold the Germans at bay until they withered economically through blockade and through bombing. At no point did we or the French intend to actually send troops to help the Poles. The fact that Germany was essentially undefended during the polish blitz and the French invaded the Saar land and then, finding no army there, pulled out beggars belief.
@bewlaybrother4460 OK. So what am I wrong about then?. It’s all ad hominem unless you tell me why I’m wrong and “opinionated”. What do I need to brush up on? Believe me, if I’m wrong I’d want to know about it. I don’t form opinions based on what I’d like to think was the case as you get unstuck very quickly. I like to form opinions through what evidence and facts (whatever they really are when it comes to history, of course) point to and if it’s ambiguous then say so. I’d much prefer to be educated than right.
That dude from Game of Thrones is in that first movie, and pretty much everyone can't get over him playing Ramsey. He's typecast, sorry. It sucks for him, but it happens. It may take twenty years for people to forget and for him to escape it.

Not just about the wars, but the series Stulecie Winnych, has a good representation of life in Poland during WWI and WWII, from the perspective of a small village outside of Warsaw.
Tough people and amazing people with the fighting spirit you want on your side during wartime. But have always been treated like garbage. After the war the British government had the Polish who were in the UK repatriated. For what the Polish did for England and that is how they thank them. To help get rid of one tyrant only to be sent back home to live under another.
I've seen some actual veterans of the BoB interviews, mainly British of course. They said while their goal was to shoot down German planes not kill the pilots, the Poles main goal was to kill the pilot, the planes were just a bonus.
@@sjb3460 If the fight is over friendly territory, the pilot can provide intelligence. Over enemy territory, aim for the pilot. But shooting at parachuting pilots was a no-no because if you did it to the enemy to prevent them from fighting again, they would do it to you to avoid having to feed another enemy.
Despite what British propaganda says the German Enigma code was broken by polish intelligence and two Polish mathematicians brought their knowledge to London in September 1939.
Yes, everyone knows that the Pösen mathematicians cracked the FIRST Enigma code. The one that Turing and the Bletchley Park organisation broke was a much later more sophisticated version. Poles are turning into Americans, who won the war all by themselves. Monte Cassino is another example. The Germans were exhausted and virtually out of supplies of food, water and ammunition by the time that the Poles went in, and yet it is now claimed as a great Polish victory achieving what no-one else could do. If they were so invincible, how come Market Garden failed? They were on that job as well.
As Alfred Frankl a Jewish survivor of Nazi concentration camp became famous American Psychologist stated how he survived the brutality inside the camp. There they can stripped you of everything Your posessions your dignity your honor but one thing they can never taken back from you its the Power of one’s Choice! K
