Listen as Ear Hustle's co-host Earlonne Woods tells about his troubled past and why he is determined to repeal California's onerous Three Strikes Law. Earlonne Woods was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. In 1997, he was sentenced to 31-years-to-life in prison. While incarcerated, he received his GED, attended Coastline Community College and completed many vocational trade programs. In November 2018, California Governor Jerry Brown commuted Earlonne’s sentence after 21 years of incarceration. Upon his release, Earlonne was hired by PRX as a full-time producer for Ear Hustle, and he continues to work with Nigel, contributing stories about re-entry. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Ive been convicted twice. After the last 4 year stint I can promise on everything that I can’t go back. I do believe in the three strikes law. I do believe that after two stints in prison that if an individual hasn’t given up the streets, they aren’t ever going to give it up.

Thanks for the great talk and for your dedication to a worthwhile cause. Listening to Ear Hustle since it started has broadened my horizons. I'm glad I have been able to meet so many people, hear their stories, and learn about living in a setting about which I know nothing. You and Nigel have discussed so many interesting topics (what you eat, getting a cellie), but hearing from the women was one of my favorites. My very favorite was Leslie Van Houten. I wonder how I would have reacted if I had met a Charles Manson when I was young and impressionable. She deserves more compassion than she has received.

I feel you but prison does save lives. For people who keep doing crime and get locked up so many change their lives inside prison. With that said we do need to change these laws but also keep accountability and consequences

I hope and pray that the three strikes law gets removed. It is an injustice!! I wish it could get on the ballot for 2024. Thank you so much Erlonne
