It runs chills down my spine to think that they were 25ish here and they could pull out such songs. Truly an inspiration, not a single album underperforming, yet able to reinvent themselves over and over through time. Unsung, low-profile heroes of 2000 music.
I just turned 40 this year, and every year around fall, since I first experienced Thrice, they come back into rotation. Through marriage, loss of friends, 3 babies, divorce, second marriage, mother passing, these guys unknowingly sang and played me through it, kept my faith, and helped me onward and upward. I'm still so humbled by the lyrics, and I have created 3 new people who are nostalgic for thier music. It's just amazing what beautiful art can accomplish.
I have always compared them to the Beatles. Consistently changing their sound, socially aware. Very glad someone showed them to me back in 2001. This is one of the only bands I still listen to on an everyday basis.
I dont recall ever being able to listen through a whole album of any artist until I ran into Thrice.. this was back in.. 9th grade? bloody hell, they have been with me for well over 13 or 14 years.. they sure have shaped the way I see the world in certain perspectives.
Two tours in Iraq and a long recovery.. I still hear this song and it reminds me of sitting in front of my hut and just looking at the stars and dreaming of home. Now I look at the stars and dream of a time I would love to re visit.
"Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal" - Matthew 6:19-20
Been a fan since '05 and while The Alchemy Index is my favorite album(s) by them, this is still my favorite song. And this acoustic version is even better.
They were so ahead in time! So many of these great songs! The love & spirit they give to everthing they truly shows! In 2004 I almost lost my life & these guys saved it! I owe them with truth & spreading of the light! The light will never die just like the spirit!
Lyrics guys: The towers that shoulder your pride The words you've written in stone Sand will cover them, sand will cover you The streets that suffer your name Your very flesh and your bones Sand will cover them, sand will cover you So put your faith in more than steel Don't store your treasures up, with moth and rust Where thieves break in and steal Pull the fangs from out your heel We live in but a shadow of the real Step out from time, see the dust of nations Step out from time, hear the stars ovation Saturn will not sleep, until the sand has made us clean Still we stack our stones and bury what we can But it all will be undone, and nothing built under the sun Will ever stand before the endless march of sand
I cannot get over this song. It has not left my head since I heard it back when I was in high school, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Freaking brilliant.
Probably my favourite performance of my favourite song by Thrice. I always eventually share it with the people who mean something to me. Some love it, some don't. I hope they have a song that makes them feel the same way.
I love how Dustin never opens his eyes while playing, haha. Seriously though, so gorgeous. This is definitely one of my all-time favourite Thrice songs, and this performance of it is just stunning.
it's not only the music, but also the lyrics that I love about this band.... makes you wonder what he was thinking the moment he wrote them. There's nothing more to be said.... amazing song!
I picked up an EP off the dusty ground at the Warped Tour about eight years ago and from that first song until now I have grown up with THRICE as the soundtrack to my life! So inspirational and motivational these artists are!!
I started listening to thrice 15 years ago and now I'm sitting here listening to it with my 2 yr old son and he's speechless. Same reaction I had when I first heard them.
How the hell could four people have accidentally clicked dislike? Apparently RU-vid needs to spread apart the thumbs up and the thumbs down. Thrice = Greatest band of all time
I'm a 23 year old female and these guys are my ALL TIME FAVORITE BAND!!! I just seen them in Vegas and they were beyond amazing!!!! Dustin is so yummy!!! :))
