I never discard any sourdough. If i won't be needing it for awhile i have it in the fridge and feed it only every few days so i don't get overrun and if i know I'll be using quite a bit i take it out and deed more often so i have enough to work with. And i just want to say you seem to be doing great this pregnancy go around. You're way happier and more motivated for everything than last go around. That was kinda depressing although I've had 4 children/been pregnant 4 times and I know you can't help it. But i love the you this go around 🤗 -Greta L

Lisa from Farmhouse on Boone RU-vid channel takes all the stress out of sourdough plus she has lots of yummy quick recipes . My sourdough lives in the fridge until the day before I want to bake bread . Since my bread recipe (from Hopes Table ) needs unfed sourdough, I take it out of the fridge the day before if I have 1 cup sourdough I feed it 1 cup flour and 1/2 to 3/4 cup water , I like it to be a bit thicker then pancake batter . I’ll feed it every four hours if I want more . Or once or twice for less. I don’t weigh or always measure to feed . Guessing is ok . It’s considered unfed after four hours of not feeding . I use my two cups for my bread making , feed it and stick it back into the fridge . Easy .

I never weigh my starter and just feed it 1/4 cup flour and water when I take it out of the fridge and always increase the feeding by 1/4 cup after that, so the next feeding would be half a cup and so on. Often when I have quite a bit of starter already, I just feed it half a cup and half a cup water. Water is different depending on how thick or thin the starter feels! Honestly, do what works for you and you'll figure it out! It's really not that picky! You can't mess it up!

I’ve heard starters are really hard to mess up 🤷🏼‍♀️ it just takes a while to figure them out 😃

Yes, I never measure anything. Just pour water and flour in and it works!! I'm sure I do different measurements just about every time because if I know I need more the next day, I just add more. I made my starter when I started watching Lisa 2 years ago when we were living in a travel trailer for the sunmer :-) I use it for everything... pancakes, cinnamon rolls, pie crusts, banana and pumpkin breads, bread, dinner rolls, dutch babies, and just whatever I can use it for I will, just because of its healthy gut benefits!

1-1-1 is a great way to feed it! And I would totally recommend measuring by grams especially when you’re just getting started!❤️ good luck!

Thanks so much! I’m thinking I’m gonna go with the 1-1-1 method…😁

I was never super precise during my year of sourdough, and my bread always turned out just fine. So don’t worry too much about it 🙂 you will do great. If I had something coming up where I knew I’d need more starter than usual, I’d put the discard in second jar a few days before and feed it so I had double 🌼🌼🌼

I just feed mine a little more if I’m making bread the next day. It doesn’t have to be complicated or super precise. I’m super laid back with it and I’ve had it for years and it’s still doing great 😊

I have used sourdough quite abit, n i am not at all precise with measuring th flour n water... if i want the starter to multiply quickly i feed it more often , larger amount of flour and water and not discarding any! When i am not baking i feed it very small amounts to keep it healthy n active n then sometimes discard as needed.... so much advuce out there, it doesn't have to be complicated at all!😊 happy baking ❤

I dont have a scale so i just feed my starter 3/4 cup water and 1 cup flour. I dont pay attention to how much i have left in the jar before i feed it. I have had success most of the time 😅

Sourdough starter is very forgiving! Just use a little less water then floor,the days I want to make Bread I would feed it more often,like a day before,,an morning,noon and before i went to bed,if I didn't want to bake much ,I only keep around 1 /4 cup starter , when you are ready to do bread,I like to feed it the night before, and mix it up in the morning when the Sourdough is at its peek,Glenda Groff has a great cookbook on all kinds of yummy Sourdough recipes,I love her oatmeal honey bread,!pizza! English muffin and more,❤ I can smell your cake❤😅

Wow your cake looks delicious! I bin doing sourdough for a year now and I have not used yeast since everything taste so good and I make everything from scratch with freshly milled flour. Actually I use white organic unbleached flour to feed my starter and also every thing I bake I use about a quarter of white flour because that make sourdough rise Better. But I have scrapped the whole discard thing I always feed my starter with 3 Tbsp of flour and 2 tbsp water and if I have a day that I ant to bake much I feed it double or triple and once I’m done I keep a little bit and feed it and put back in the fridge for when I need it again.

I do kinda a 1-1-1 feeding but I just know the consistency I like to keep it at and add water or flour accordingly. If you want to still use the ballerina farm ratio, you can just multiply each number by 3 or how many times bigger you want! If I want to have wonderful perfect loaves I usually try to use a more precise method but for things like english muffins, sandwich bread, bagels etc. the other is just fine.

You can make sourdough starter without a purchased starter. If you search for directions online, you can feed with just flour and water, and perhaps sugar sometimes. I covered mine with cloth, and you should catch wild yeast from the air. I don't think I covered mine with something solid except in the refrigerator. Best wishes!

Just a thought on the new fridge... it's harder for our little ones to be independent getting stuff out of the fridge and putting it away if they can't reach the fridge because it is so high up for them. I so want one of those fridges too, but for me, I'm waiting until they are a bit older to get one. No judgement, just a thought ☺️. I enjoyed the video and am praying for a safe delivery for you!

I'm with you. I would love a refrigerator with the freezer n the bottom and double door's on top. I'm hoping to have a new kitchen sometime this year. We've lived in this house for 38 years. That kind of gives you an idea of how outdated it is. Six more weeks to go before we know if your baby is a he or a she. Still prayers for an easy delivery. As always I'm sending my love ❤

Friend. We need to chat. First,you deserve clothes that fit and are attractive between "now" and losing some magical amount of weight. That idea you have is actually really shaming. None of us need huge wardrobes for every size available, but we all are worthy of clothes that are appropriate. Furthermore, you don't actually get to be in control if how big your baby is nor now much you gain. Your baby needs to gain roughly 8 oz a week from now until birth. It's ok, big babies have advantages that little babies don't. Little babies being better is a myth that our diet culture plays on. Go eat well. Eat mindfully. But please stop shaming yourself for gaining weight in a process you can't control outside of abstinence. I am in and from your church culture, I understand! The shame is not what Jesus offers. ❤
@ValerieKeim
@ValerieKeim Год назад
I just know with my first baby I gained more than I would have had to, which is fine, it’s just that it makes it harder to lose afterwards 😅 This time around I decided I want to gain a healthy/appropriate amount of weight for my body type. I’m not on a diet, just trying to make healthy decisions 😅 And trust me I’m all about wearing clothes that fit and work well with my shape, I just don’t want to be buying mounds of clothes at this point in pregnancy when I’m so close to the end of that makes sense :) I also came to the conclusion that after pregnancy I would like to get to a weight that I not only feel comfortable with, but also healthy! I want to try to be the best version of myself especially if I were to ever get pregnant again 🥰 I wasn’t trying to come off as shameful 🙈
