I've definitely noticed that as the thrifting trend has grown over the past few years, thrift stores are catching on and raising their prices. They know people go in looking to buy and flip. This goes for clothes too. It's ridiculous because it hurts the lower income people that actually go to these stores because this is their only option.

If I had a house, I would absolutely be getting that large table and chairs! Solid wood and sturdy. A table like that will last a lifetime.... or multiple even

To cover the button is so easy ....cut a circle larger than the button wrap it over the button and wind cotton or elastic over it and there you go covered button....good luck cant wait to see how it turns out.....😊🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

I find it incredible that good will and most other thrift stores do not pay for what they sell, but they want full retail when they price stuff, it’s ridiculous!

Was in a Good Will store with high prices and the store manager noted that their higher mgt has RAISED the budget that her store must meet every month to $200k which explains the unbelievable price per item. She is now considering a change in employment because she hears complaints about this subject everyday.

What kills me is these places get items for free that are donated to them and then they wanna charge a fortune smh

There's always room for more chairs! And they are green, woohoo! Lauren, I loved the table with the leafs underneath. I have one similar to that, when you pull the table apart the leaf raises up into the opening, at least mine does.

To fix the button cut a circle of the material larger than the button. Do two running stitches around the outside of the circle pull it tight till it fits over the button and tie off the threads. Hope I’ve explained it well enough

I would be going back for that table with the built in leaves that is an amazing - extremely well made table and as your family expands, you have people over...you will never ever regret having that amazing table! Down the road it could be left fully expanded in a crafts/toy room where ample space makes game night/ puzzle making etc so much fun...seriously - it's a gem, and you could make it a true labour of love. The designs on the chairs are also. Beautiful. I am sure you could modernize the base of the table no problem. I hope you re consider it. I would snatch that up in a heart beat, no storing the leaves somewhere else, this is such a well built table.

I work at a thrift store, and in their defence, they are trying to survive the high cost of doing business. You complained at the high price for a dresser, yet you're willing to take a $15 chair from them and resell it for $175?? That's quite a mark-up, and you're not really investing in improvements to the chair! I know the store I work at in Phoenix pays around 5k a month in summer for just the AC bill, not counting, rent, payroll, taxes, insurance, utilities, and much more! People abandon tons of junk furniture, garbage outside the store everyday and it cost $$ to have it hauled to the dump. All said, everyone is in business to make money, including the thrift store!

You are so right about furniture prices. I'm in Vegas and the prices some places ask for used furniture is crazy. Night stands cost more than a huge dresser that is in better shape. Stuff that is falling apart and covered in kids stickers is even more! And each Goodwill prices how ever they want. The store in my part of town is sometimes 3 times as much as an store in an older part of town. We have a Deseret Industries and they get a lot of new furniture from a furniture store in town and the prices are about the same as used junk. Just gotta keep your eyes pealed and something will pop up.

My husband just walked by and said “are you watching someone shop?” I told him “yes, thrift stores, in Omaha, I’ve never been to Omaha!” Lol y’all have some good stuff up there. I’m in Alabama and our stores aren’t the best. The antique stores are really expensive here but have the best stuff. Thrift stores here are usually more dishes, lamps, small furniture, clothes and Knick knacks.

I've been noticing that at Goodwill, Salvation Army AND St. Vinnie's, they are acting more like regular brick & mortar stores, and are pricing accordingly. I'm really tired of going to what should be a "bottom of the barrel" priced, non-profit thrift store only to find (USED!) shoes for $39, purses for $29, etc. They know people are now very savvy when it comes to certain items, and as you said, they're taking advantage of that. The worst part is that people who really need super cheap, bottom of the barrel prices just get by, can't even afford to shop at thrift stores any longer. Personally, I will now only go to these stores on their "half off" days, when the prices are closer to "normal." 🙄

I had that exact table. You pull the outer leaves apart and the center leaves food down. My son salvaged it (and 6 chairs) from the dump and brought it to me. I refinished the top, cleaned it up and used it for a couple years before I sold it. I loved that the leaves were self storing.

At goodwill prices, because the items cost is so high, I would just buy new!!

May I mention something constructive? Neiman is so upbeat and positive. Lauren appears less so. She is also short with him and I don’t understand why. Lauren, please be nicer to Neiman and smile. Act like you enjoy what you’re doing, instead of acting like everything is a such a burden. Just saying.

We bought a new home awhile back and previous home furnishings didn’t go with our new house. I am a real estate photographer and get a lot of deals and free stuff from people moving. I just furnished my sons house at college that way and thrift stores. All really cool items. Real Leather couch set with recliner had the cool stitching, Lane furniture $100 came from a house that the homeowners were downsizing and not going to have a movie/game room at the new house. The furniture had barely been used. So it can be done, you have to know what you need, have patience and look around. Family yard sales are great too and they usually start on Thursday or Friday afternoon.

This days everything is more expensive and the used furniture that before people just throw away or sold them for a little bit of money ,today they cost like new.😵‍💫😟I know that this changed because of the flipping refurbishing trends that is going on too.

I stopped donating to Goodwill because of their ridiculously high prices. I would rather give it to people who need it.

Your Local Charity Stores are generally better to buy from. More competitive prices, local charities so your helping your own community and have better pricing for delivery. 😊🇬🇧

You need to go a little slower, because other people want to look at the furniture to. I could spend hours in these places just looking. I did like the two Green chairs that you got and the ottoman.

I don't like particle board because it is so much heavier than wood so I can't rearrange things at home.

They have buttons at the sewing store that are specifically used for making covered buttons. It’s a little kit.

I have the EXACT same china cabinet (Hutch) as the one in the thrift store with the table and chairs that you were really interested in! (@37.28 min in). What a trip! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I’ve had to move it! lol!!!!

Excited to see what you do with the Green Corduroy chairs and footstools. I loved that large table and your idea to remove the spindles and put squares or wrought iron in that space. That was an expensive set when new especially with all that underneath storage and leaf's under and the hardware. Bonus is your family will be getting bigger and gatherings and you wouldn't have to "store" leaf's somewhere else........that is a pain in the behind. LOL Just saying. I wonder what the price was on that. That would be beautiful done up in your idea or just restain the wood to a deeper color..........depends on which way you go. Older furniture has better bones!! Tongue and groove, teal wood vs particle board, etc!

I prefer special and unique furniture and decor. Quality vintage pieces beat the poor quality goods pumped into the market now. Its also feels good to save trees. Btw, those furnitre prices are not bad compaired to retail. You are just used to getting some incredibly deals!

I would love to see that old school entertainment set turned into a buffet, coffee bar, or something for those less used kitchen items made into a "statement piece"

Remember Goodwill is not a charity, you donate , they make a big profit. Also I believe MDF is basically compressed, glued sawdust.

I've found the same problem with thrift stores in my area as well. There was even a shirt that still had it's original tag attached, and the Goodwill price was actually higher than the original price! Lol.

It seems that thrift stores and Salvation Army stores have really raised their prices in the last couple of years…the stores in my area are so overpriced. I rarely ever buy anything there unless I happen to catch a 50% off deal.

I dont understand Sal Army's pricing either. They have their prices sooo high that when they have a sale it brings the price down to what it should be compared to other thrift stores. My sal army raised their long dresses to $12 so even at half price days it is $6!!! I guess it works for them because the sale days are CRAZY and you have to wear steel toed shoes because you will get trampled like it is black friday.

To fix a spot on edge where it is torn a bit. Take a pair of really sharp Scissors and scrape fibers off of the skirt with one edge of scissors, then use a clear fabric glue and put fibers on spot missing fabric. You may need to change directions on fabric if fibers are not coming off. Works like a charm!

That cabinet at 13:21 you can also turn into a kid's play kitchen. You turn the closet part into a fridge and the where the TV was you make a cooking area or sink. It's an easy flip and fun.

I haven't bought anything at Salvation Army in a decade. The items are usually in so so shape and the price is way overpriced

Fixing a covered button isn’t hard to do. You have plenty of fabric in the skirt…just buy a covered button kit at the fabric store…the directions are on the package. Changing it out is a little trickier but still not hard. Just take a seam ripper (it’s a common sewing tool) and take part of the back panel off…or (more likely situation) get a flat head screwdriver and pry it off at the seam. It’s probably attached with a little metal strip with teeth in it. Once off, you’ll see where the tufting buttons are tied to a stabilizing piece. Undo the bad button from the back and pull it off from the front. You’ll attach the new button from the front with twine and a big upholstery needle to get the tying strings through the back hole. Tie it with enough pressure to match the rest of the tufts and then you just have to reattach the back panel. If it’s been attached with a strip with little metal teeth you can probably just hammer it back to attach or…you can use a curved upholstery needle to do a blind stitch. I’m sure you can find easy directions to all of this on RU-vid…I’m making it sound harder than what it is. I’ve done a bit of upholstery over the years after taking a summer course from a home ec teacher in a school district. It was a free continuing education course back in the day and SO much fun. I couldn’t believe all the beautiful transformations people did after learning the skills. We walked in with shabby and sad looking pieces and walked out with our masterpieces. We were so proud to learn new skills. Like you said Lauren…you have to just jump in and do it. I’d love to see you expand your business to a few simple upholstery pieces too…you are so talented…I’m sure you’d be a success.

Goodwill is always overpriced, also. They even mark up Dollar Tree items. You'd think they would be more interested in wanting to move inventory.

Goodwill prices are so ridiculous. I've seen things from the Dollar Tree, used with a DT Greenbrier label that they want 2, 2.50 or more for. Go to DT and spend 1.25 for a new one for crying out loud. I'm very, very picky what I buy. They want too much, I walk away.

That's horrible that the thrift store marks a dresser for $90. They should be ashamed of themselves!. I have something out here called veterans of America dressers usually sell for $12 to $20, nightstands usually sell for $8. bookshelves usually sell about $12. Single chairs are generally $4. to $7.00. that's something people can afford. They're not trying to rip people off. I mean these companies get this stuff for free it's horrible that they're trying to get rich off of selling a dresser a used one for $90, a $130.!!! Oh my god are they nuts!! and a bookshelf for $40. Shame on them! I would let management know and I wouldn't shop there again and explain to them why. Obviously no one's buying their stuff their stores loaded with furniture

Basically, most of my furniture and decor is Thrifted/Charity store/ 2nd hand buys. Why buy for thousands when you can buy really good quality furniture for 10's of dollars or pounds sterling upto a few hundred instead of thousands! Makes sense and save the rest you've saved!

Everyone who thinks or feels God doesn't care, is indifferent and or mean etc …. Why is the world as it is, evil everywhere… where is God and His faithfulness… God does judge sin which is evil and if people don't stop sinning they will die for that disobedience,that sin. When God said if you take from that tree you will die He was saying if you disobey, you sin, I will punish that sin because God does punish it, sickness, demons and death. And if you keep sinning I will punish you to the point of death, is that punishment. Sickness is a consequence of sin and it is a judgement God makes upon the people for their sin. All sickness takes its toll on the body and will result in death unless you stop sinning and that brings a reward from God for the righteous decision to stop sinning that brought that illness. Throughout scripture God tells us these things. God does love and there is mercy in His punishment too. He chastises those He loves. His wrath doesn't mean He doesn't love, it doesn't mean there is no mercy, it means He puts His law first and He obeys it first. He punished sin and then punishes sin and so forth and if someone doesn't stop sinning or sins more then that judgment is death just as He said, sin is death. Scripture says we are all responsible for working out our salvation with fear and trembling. Seek scripture, learn who He is and what He said to obey and do it. if you obey Him you live in blessings just like Deuteronomy 28 says and it also says disobedience is curses, that's sickness, demons possibly and again to continue in sin results in death. God told all the details, and paid for us to get out of sin and how we should live and when people don't live righteous then the world looks like it did in the days of Noah, violence, drunkenness and such lovers of self, pleasure and all sin and life apart from God, life in disobedience to God. Why should He bless sin? He punishes it then punishes sin more if someone keeps sinning. Is it tough people die from that choice they make, their sin and lack of seeking God to obey what He said, yes it hurts. How do you think God feels, He loved the world so much He gave His only begotten son and Yeshua died in agony for us to be out of that sin, taking God's wrath upon Himself so how do I think He feels, grieved so grieved but I know from scripture He always obeys what His word says, He never changes and that includes every word He said. Now Yeshua took God's wrath upon Himself for our sin Isaiah 53. We get peace with God and can come before Him to be heard and we get to be cleansed from our iniquities, sin. Just like the lamb sacrifices in the old testament Jesus was that for us a peace offering and forgiveness offering. We get freedom from that sinful past, from that sin and we get our healings because His stripes healed us from the consequences of sin. He gave us a way out. A way to start again out of that wrath. How loving is that God gave us His son who took God's wrath for us out of love. How loving just how loving is our God who made a way for us to be out of that wrath? Wrath we deserved by our sin and continued sin. But God so loved the world He gave us Yeshua. Yeshua gave His life to rise to life for us to give us new life. A new creation to begin again a new life, having been born again. Having received forgiveness for sin and a pardon from God's wrath, that very wrath you talk about. But God gave us a way out of His wrath when Yeshua our lamb paid for our sin. Again how loving is that our way out of God's wrath. Our new life. Our second chance to live rightly before our Holy righteous God our being born again to live right because God planned for us to not all receive His wrath yet His son for everyone, one for everyone and a way out, pardoned and free to live life righteous whole healed delivered, how loving oh so very loving that is. All that is in scripture too. Seek and find, learn who He is and obey and see more of it. Mark 4:24 the more you obey God the more He reveals to you, it means that. Matthew 6:33 live it daily and understand who He is and just how loving He always is and honestly how loved you are will be seen felt and KNOWN too. 💕 May you come to understand Him all your days seeking and finding and growing in the knowledge of God in Yeshua's name 💕

Goodwill don’t really sale sets to much. They be each so $80 for both. I be like it’s a set but they be trying to get as much as they can. I was in goodwill over the weekend. And a set of plates they had like 8 plates and they was like 2.99 times $10 I am like. Just sale it as a set 10 plates for like $8.00 or something

I hate Goodwill. They charge way way too much for things they get for "FREE". Try looking at thrift store, estate sales, and moving sales.
