This regime would be firm, humane and decisive. We would not condone nor tolerate any act of indiscipline. Any attempt to test our will will be decisively dealt with... I would never forget that speech and truly he lived to his promise. It was only during Abacha regime that nobody was untouchable or above the law. The most powerful Nigerians were shaken to their marrows
@@Peggyg13 Abacha's administration laid the foundation for the job OBJ did. Even with the multiple sanctions from UN and the Commonwealth, Nigerians didn't feel any impact because Abacha opened up our economy to the Asian Tigers, that is, the developed economies of South East Asia. The Naira was giving the Dollar a run for its money and inflation was low. The only people that were complaining then were the "progressives". Today, the "progressives" are in power - have been in power since 2015 - and Nigerians are suffering and eating from the bins.
@@blessingekpereogbu4307 All the economic gains from this Asian tiger relationships were shipped out of Nigeria into American and European banks isn’t that ironic ? Did abacha build more schools, hospital & refineries, sea ports & rail ways ? The kind of stimulus the economy needed ? Wasn’t ASSU on strike permanently ? What was the crime rate ? You talk about progressives messing up the economy , democracy like evolution is a slow process, eventually we will get it right. Nigeria in its current form is a creation of the military. So by default , we have factory error. Like I said we will get it right. Abacha was an aberration. May we not see his kind ijn?
Nigerians are among the most talented, hardworking and intelligent people in the world. Unfortunately we are still unable to harness these gifts from God

It was not funny at all. No one was safe whether you're 'enemy of the state' (no one understood that term until democracy in 1999) or not, political or not. Stray bullets were flying up and down killing anybody.
@@Simon_and_Lamiyes President Obasanjo weakened the military during his time as president form 1999 to 2007. So military dont have such power , intelligence and finances to overthrow any government in Nigeria again.
This is maybe what Nigeria needs at this time of economic difficulties. High market food and other commodity prices. Military intervention could make things affordable for Nigerians
@@muzammililiyasu3339 Yeah and that how you chose interprete my words.Shows you clearly don't know logic what means . You can keep your alternate reality to yourself!
You can see the way he is being praised by some of them that enjoy the corruption Nigerians is going today, because he is thsame with them, so it didn't matter to them the painful way Nigeria is going today
Call it whatever, but we actually need a leader who is bold like this. Not that I support Abacha's acts of corruption, but I actually admired the fact that he knew what he wanted and went all out for it and succeeded.
@@adefemimafe85 what of all the lloting obasanjo, gowon and buhari looted? Or is it only abacha that looted? Why people keep talking about only abacha loot? Those money could even be he kept it for Nigeria in future times?
If Mr. Abiola took over as President. He would have been thrown off with a coup. To keep stability Gen. Abacha took over to get rid of remaining coup plotters in the Army also protect his friend Gen. Babangida. He died while in Office......I could write a book regarding this Power transfer.
Everything is hereby dissolved and all the political Appointees are hereby disappointed...dissolved, prohibited, proscribed and abrogated...all the trade unions to return to work immediately 😅. I believe in all of this it was the tight security and the safety of the Aso Rock Villa he wouldn't have lasted so long without being toppled and kicked out if the Capital had remained in Lagos. They would have got to him real quick.
Really? Respect for plunging Nigeria into the mess it might never recover from till the end of eternity, all the stealing and looting not to mention his dictatorship style of ruling
@@itasteven707 90 percent of the money have been repatriated. Do you think it make sense talking of Abacha's loot as the origin of our problems 26 years later? common
One of the problems am having with we African is whenever we begin to hail a leader which we know how brutal he was during his life time because he gave nice speech. They all have good speech to present simply because the speech was not written by most of them but that doesn't change who they are which is what we are seeing.
The fact remains he stood by his words even if he did not write the speech. Looking back at leaders that succeeded him I don't see any one who you can categorically say that surpasse him in achievement. He had his shortcomings as a ruler but security, economy and infrastructure wise you have to give it to Abacha. I still emphasize that non of his successors from 1998 can be said to be better than him in those aspects. Agreed he was a military dictator like all military governments but circumstances warranted some of his decisions on opposition. He did not annull June 12 election, Babangida did and he came to power only after Shonekan lost legitimacy from Nigerians
@@aliyumohammed7965 you right abacha was really smart man and strong leader no one can dispute that my alah subhanu watacala grant his gentle soul rest in peace ....alahuma amiin from somalia🇸🇴🇸🇴🇸🇴
You are talking bought I tell you he was better than thieves that parade as assumed leaders. The lawlessness recklessness today is incomparable to that time though he has his shortcomings bought I tell you politicians from 1999 to 2024 are Unpatriotic you can read this patriotic spirit and throughout he never traveled to was though we were heavy sanctions bought never care instead he choose Nigerian to achievely leave inwardly and leaves distractions coming from Westerners. Democracy which should be government of the people and for the people and for the people. A civilian like you become a dictator they steal as much as they can and they are not made to face the crime they committed rather continue to be offered one portfolio to another
@@trentson6965 am not disputing the fact that things were not cheaper compared to this present time under democratic regime. That was then. Things were cheap probably as a result of the the level of technical advancement then. We should not also forget how people suffered and how hardship was the order of the today too. Am not saying things are better now. My point is that he was also a corrupt leader just like the present ones who need not to be celebrated because of nice speech. If we continued with this mentality then a period is coming when Buhari and Tinubu would be celebrated with great esteem.
I am amazed at people trying to rewrite history to make this man look good. It must be the GEN Zs. But its those who removed history from our curriculum , I blame!
Had it been he is alive today , do you think anyone could have dared to level the same accusations against him. Today many Young Ugandans will wish to have Idi Amin again cause they now realize the West and media demonize Idi Amin. Sani Abacha made mistakes of not doing video interviews or maybe they have been destroyed.
Did Abacha not loot Nigeria far more than those whom he dissolved. Keep fooling yourself, the military is even more corrupt than civilians. Who are those sabotaging the fight against banditry and terrorism in the north? Keep fooling yourself. Go and watch the days of military regime, ask your fathers let them educate your ignorant mind.
Folks in the comments really celebrating a dictator that looted Nigeria so bad they're still recovering his loot to this day. We're not making it out of the trenches anytime soon
We needed something like this in Nigeria now, during this man reign (Abacha) created some states, which gave some life to majorities of people's from different regions.democracy is too cost in Nigeria, they're just wasting our monies, see the huge sum of money that a single senator and a house rep members are getting.likewise all the money been paid to the ministers, and ambassadors.and some governor's aids.if only we Nigerians can unite, let's forget how our people's have been brainwashed should military take over.if military should take over in Nigeria, things are going to be okay, because presently, our military personnel, have human face in their dealings.and they will really perform.democracy that we're practicing here, our politicians are just enrishing themselves.non of them have the interest of the masses at heart's.if only, all of us can speak in voice that military should come back again,we will surely know that this politicians are just making us to suffer.because the military personnel will surely work and achieve more than the stupid democracy that we're thinking is the way forward.we're not matured yet for democracy in Nigeria.because most of our politicians are wicked and very crude in nature.they're less concerns if the masses are eating or not.peoples are just dying.
Don't forget , the military we have then is different from what we have today. Today's military are as corrupt as politicians. Don't forget also, majority of the coup in nigeria was because the govt was accused of corruption and wastage of resources.
General sanni abacha,,the only general that never skip rank, already a four star general, before he assumed the office of the head of state,,,I love you abacha
You will like it more when Nigeria is divided and every country will have his army it is then you will know who is real army now it is Islamic evil armies
